Hey guys, trying something new by having a guest on the channel! A couple of you guys told me this song was about physics/space/relativity, and my friend here is a Physics Major and we’ve had many great conversations about these topics so I thought I’d have him join me! The first couple minutes are the uninterrupted song reaction and after that we go on for about 15 minutes doing a full analysis of the lyrics, feedback on this experiment would be greatly appreciated! Have a great Thursday friends! 🔥😁
I loved it!
Maybe you like to hear Roger Taylor on lead? Try “I'm in love with my car“. Watch a live version. Roger sings lead while drumming.
Yes, ,,I'm In Love With My Car" Hammersmith 1979, such a great version 😊
I really enjoyed this reaction. Your intelligent approach to the lyrics and music were fantastic, very like the band members themselves 😏

Interstellar !!
Loved this discussion. I adore poet songwriters. Fleetwood Mac is good at that as well. Please do more discussions like this one. 👍
About the bassline, can I just mention that John Deacon learnt to play the double bass just for this song? Brian joked about wanting the instrument in the arrangement, and shortly after found that John had already learned how to play. He tends to be overlooked sometimes next to the 3 larger than life figures in the band, but is just an insanely good musician.
John was not only the “silent partner/secret weapon” of Queen, he was also regarded as the business brains of the band. After they extracted themselves from their first contact with Norman Sheffield, John took the active role of business decision-making for Queen, being their liaison with their management from then on. And he did very well indeed for them.
Roger's falsetto in the instrumental break was meant to evoke the theramin, the electronic instrument used in all those old '50s scifi movie soundtracks.
The Applesauce Project
That’s crazy! Thanks for sharing that info! 😁
Right? Brian has said he wanted to write a sci-fi folk song with this. As much as I love the band's catalog, when people ask me what my favorite Queen song is, this is the first that jumps to mind.
The Applesauce Project Yep, seconded. People focus on the lyrics, which are amazing, but the instrumentation and harmonies on ‘39 are just beyond. Queen killing folk, just like every other genre.
The Applesauce Project yesss💗💗 Freddie Mercury called Roger Taylor‘s voice like a dog whistle😂😂😂
Hanny Hawkins I love this song and it is one of my favorites and sounds like a bonfire song and people standing around drinking beer and wine chilling out. It’s just a beautiful song and Brian on lead vocals with the rest of them backing him and Rogers falsettos!
Greatest song about Einsteinian time dilation masquerading as a sea shanty EVER.
LOL
John Deacon plays a double bass on this song. It started off as a joke, but he took it very seriously and brought the thing to the studio!
SonicVolcanoify
Oh hell yeah! 🔥😁
The brilliance of Brian's song is making a space song with acoustic instruments. That's what makes it human and universal.
durban73 37nabrud
Yes that’s what I was thinking, loved the folky tone! 😁
Yes, a folk song about space time dilation is pure Queen genius.
Brian sings like a pure angel! God save Brian May! Great reaction!
Vitteria s
I agree! And I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 🔥😁
1839 the first parallax measurement of the distance to Alpha Centauri is published by Thomas Henderson. The song relates the tale of a group of space explorers who embark on what is, from their perspective, a year-long voyage. Upon their return, however, they realize that a hundred years have passed, because of the time dilation effect in Einstein's special theory of relativity, and the loved ones they left behind are now all dead or aged.
Brian quit his PhD which was a rift between him and his father. His thesis was later approved in 2007 and received his PhD. As for his guitar, there are instances where he didn’t use the guitar, We Will Rock You and Spread Your Wings video, which were performed outside at Roger’s garden and didn’t want to expose The Red Special to the weather. (Read his book ). He also modified the amps and used a custom amp built by John Deacon (bass). Brian also sung lead on Sleeping On The Sidewalk and Too Much Love Will Kill You ( also recorded with Freddie but didn’t make The Miracle album and later released as a single after he died). Queen fan for 45 years, you guys make Queen fans proud delving into them the way you do. Listen to White Queen.
lawrence abeyta
Thanks for that thoughtful informational comment friend! And I’m glad you enjoyed the analysis! Cheers 🔥😁
And your suggestion for white queen is noted! 😁😁
@@andyandalex I love White Queen... Another brilliant song by Brian is Sail Away Sweet Sister, or also Leavin' Home Ain't Easy
While you're listening to White Queen, which was written by Brian May - on the same album you should also listen to March of the Black Queen written by Freddie. Its totally epic!
"Your mother's eyes, from your eyes, cry to me" that's a beautiful line
Alex nailed it. The song is a space-age folk song!
Great reaction 39 is one of those songs you go back to again and again
chris rowley
I’m glad you liked the reaction! We loved the song, cheers friend!
@@andyandalex welcome here is another must listen "teo torriatte" its sung in duel language - English ans Japanese
Explorers and relativity and Brian's tone. What's not to like?
grelch
Agreed! A brilliant combination! 😁
Brian plays on the whole time/space concept with this song, initially creating the impression of the original Pilgrims sailing across the Atlantic, blurring into a futuristic space traveller cheating time itself. The lyrics and the music itself also give the song an old-time feel. Such a creative group.
Ian Wright
Yeah it was a very creative clash of creativity, loved it! 😁🔥
39 is often described as a 'Folk Song' - it is a great song and can't wait to see it in the extended version of the movie when the Blue-ray comes out
Sean Williams Yeah! I saw the actors talking about that there is a scene and maaany others more👍🏻🙌🏻
Nice idea🙌🏻 nice guy!
And yes it’s Brian singing here :) Roger is killing these high notes 👌🏻
Great video
and Brian May actually has a phD in Astrophysics himself 😉
I’m glad you liked it! And yeah I know he’s extremely smart! 😁
Roger is annoying the dogs again...😂
brasschick42 hahahaha 😂
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Brian May flexed his brilliance here. The decision to go with a folk sound, is not only appropriate lyrically, because of the metaphors that describe both a maiden ship voyage to discover new land, and a space voyage, presumably, to discover new celestial bodies; but also ties in perfectly with Brian’s signature tone, and the opera theme of everything being over the top and grand.
Another reason I love this song is because the chord progression and accompanying vocals are so complimentary and really encapsulate the emotion of leaving everything one knows, and returning only to love the rest of one’s life in familial solitude. It’s dark and bright at the same time.
This song is actually very difficult to play, because there are a some quick chord changes, and the strum pattern is complex considering he plays it and sings at the same time. Singing this song with that strum pattern is really, really difficult. Well, impossible for me.
Then the lyrics. This has got to be one of the only songs ever written about time dilation, and he nailed it with clever word play, and clear knowledge of the physics while maintaining a human element. It doesn’t sound like a scientist wrote a song. It sounds like a poet used science as a vehicle to tell a story. And what a horribly tragic, yet inspiring story it is.
I can only hope that I will ever compose something even remotely as brilliant as this tune.
Brian May said once, this is how the felt when they came back from touring sometimes.
Gips Nadel
Damn..that makes sense, adds a lot of perspective to the song, thanks for sharing friend! 😁
@@andyandalex My pleasure! Brians songs are mostly about the relationships between humans, as he said himself for Too much love will kill you. He wrote some very deep songs for Queen. My personal favourites are 39, White Queen (Hammersmith 1975), The Prophet's song and Who wants to live forever. I recomend the Prophets song, because it is not very known and yet so beautiful :)
Gips Nadel
Another good song from Brian is all dead all dead !!
@@Gracegalxc o yeah this is a very good one
Wanna hear Brian's guitar sound like a Jazz Quintet? Listen to 'Good Company'. Also sung by Brian!
Great breakdown with the both of you! The most heavy hitting lyric to me is the "your mother's eyes, through your eyes, cry to me." And thank you for giving your thoughts on the "letters in the sand" part. It made perfect sense!
Arwen Odinson
Hey I’m glad you liked the video! And yes that lyric was very heart stirring..cheers friend! 😁
Arwen Odinson That line makes me mist up every time.
Hanny Hawkins Same bc it's so true! When a spouse passes or family member passes, they live on through their children and you really can see them through their eyes.
This song has really grown on me since I first heard it, though it took a while for me to wrap my head around the lyrics. But now every time I hear it I have to turn it up and sing along. You guys did a great analysis!
Etc
It’s definitely deep and a great jam! I’m glad you liked the analysis, cheers friend! 😁🔥
Another fantastic reaction, to one of my favorite Queen songs! And thank you for taking the time to do the lyrical analysis with your friend Alex, loved it! I've watched an interview with Brian May talking about the meaning behind this song.. aside from the literal interpretation of the space voyage/theory of relativity, Brian also talked about the overall inspiration for '39, which I thought was touching and very relatable.
He said it's about anyone who leaves home for an extended period of time to go on a journey; for him personally, it was the band going on the road to tour/perform, but I can also see it applied to those serving in the military, or even those who move away for college/work. You go away to learn and experience new and wonderful things. However, when you return home, things have changed, and you realize that you've missed out on a lot of things with your loved ones, simply by not physically being there and spending time together. That overall meaning of the song makes it even more beautiful to me, so thought I'd just add that in to the discussion! :)
goldnheart
Hey I’m glad you enjoyed the video! And wow that definitely adds perspective to the song for sure, thanks a bunch for sharing! 😁😁
By the way, I appreciate you listening to your audience and focusing on the lyrics, it is nice to see you take this stuff seriously, not like many others only fishing for views. Thumbs up for that.
Pavla Gebouska
Of course! This is the only way it should be done really, the product me and many others are putting out is a genuine reaction to these amazing groups, absolutely no reason to give you guys a bad product! I appreciate you watching and your thoughtful comments! Have a great night Pavla! 😁❤️🔥
And then straight into “Sweet Lady”.... awesome!!!
Great idea to have a buddy come in and help analyze a song. I second the motion that he should come in every Thursday. What a GREAT reaction. From both of you! Great Job!
Jackie Beams
Haha I’ll bring him in from time to time, more often if you guys demand it of course! He’s a great friend of mine, cheers friend, glad you enjoyed the video! 🔥😁
Brian has such a pure beautiful singing voice.
When analysing the lyrics bare in mind that Brian May has a PhD in Astrophysics. Took me a lot of interpretation to understand. Its a beautiful song though.
Ken Rushton
Yeah we went pretty deep into it and I we we understand it for the most part but I’m sure there’s definitely more layers to uncover, Brian is a very smart guy, cheers friend! 🔥😁
I love how this video is mostly just two guys vibing to an amazing song
Watching this now, 2 years in makes me feel like a time traveler. Alex's first episode and they've come so far and grown so much musically. I'm grateful for riding along, guys. 🥃🎩
Other good Roger sung songs are Drowse, Tenement Funster, & More Of The Jazz. The latter has this little bit near the end, where it plays snippets of other songs on the album, then goes back to the song. It was the last song on their Jazz album. My other fav Brian sung song, behind 39, is Sail Away Sweet Sister.
ErinLees
Thanks for the tip I’ll have to look into those! 🔥😁
It's supposed to be a 1 year mission to space, but when they return in what they think is one year, it's been 100 years. "For so many years have gone though I'm older but a year, your mother's eyes, from your eyes, cry to me."
bbbfst
Yeah it’s a very deep and meaningful track, I loved it, cheers friend! 😁🔥
I think the line "write your letters in the sand" implies the speaker knows about the time dilation.
Holy shit I love these guys
@Zoey Paige
😁😁❤️
This is one off the things with queen. If you pick a random album track ,, especially from the 70s you have no idea what style of music your e going to get.
richard scales
Yeah that’s what I’m starting to learn, loving it so far! 😁
Mama says that life is like a Queen Album... you never know what you’re goin’ to get.
@@brasschick4214 your mom is hella cool!
so nice to see someone listening to some of Queen's "other" songs. One of my favorites is The Prophet Song. Thanks. Hadn't listened to this in a while.
Great idea with having Alex on your channel, I enjoyed it.

I’m glad you enjoyed it, he’s a very good friend of mine as well as a musical mentor! 🔥😁
@@andyandalex Have him react to the Prophet Song :)
mmaybe321
Haha I might have to!
Yeah, bring ALEX back. You guys bounce off each other really well.
From the future, 2021 just discovered this is where Alex joined Andy! Going through your videos, what a great day this was. Was 15 when "Night at the Opera" arrived. You guys rock!
'39 Queen = Interestelar Movie
Roto Dos
That’s what it’s looking like for sure! 🔥😁😁
Well, except ‘39 is actually good...lol
Maria Rosen
Well yeah, can’t really compare them when it comes down to it. Different realm, haha.
the movie Interstellar came out 39 years after the song 39 was released. Wrap your mind around that fact and you get an inkling how the director and producers mind works.
First off, I love the interaction between you and Alex. It's obvious you guys talk about (and listen to ) a lot of music. I have some friends like that and they are the people I relate to the best. :D As far as what to listen to... well, it could be any of the songs that people have put forth. The one that has hit me the most lately is another amazing display of Freddy's talent. From A Day At the Races, give "You Take My Breath Away" a listen. Brian's guitar and of course the vocals all come in at the perfect moments and add so many layers to it. Ahh! I need to go listen to it again.
Dana
Hey friend! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! And yeah we are pretty good friends haha, get into chats like that literally all the time about different bands, and thanks for the suggestion! Cheers! 🔥😁
First time seeing this, Alex is a great addition. This song brought smiles and tears, Queen never disappoints
Hi Andy, my favorite Brian May Queen song is 'All Dead, All Dead', a song Brian wrote about his cat, I love Brian's vocals on this one, btw a brand new animated video was created for this song in 2017, drop this into youtube search:
Queen - All Dead, All Dead - At Last, the Video!
watchtheskies
Thanks for the tip friend! 🔥😁😁
Yes, All Dead All Dead
Omg! I just saw this comment. This is actually my favorite Queen song, not just Brian May song. I used to borrow my sister’s News of the World album and I would play that song over and over not the hits. I was 8 at the time so that maybe had something to do with it but it had remained my favorite all this time and nobody else ever knows what I’m talking about. I play them the song and then they love it.
@Andy & Alex
I love watching your reactions to the music of my youth ! I was 18 when I became a Queen fan in 1974, I am now 63 and still love them !❤
Yes, it is Brian singing lead vocals in this, his, song. Brilliant - wonderful words, full of meaning and beautifully played ! You should have left the album playing - the transition to the next song "Sweet Lady" is stunning !
Love this song.. if you wanna hear Freddie sing it check out queen live killers version of it on your own time it's great
jtwigg23
Sounds great, thanks a bunch for the tip! 😁😁
In this case, this song only “works” when sung by Brian.
Awesome. You two make a great pairing. Perhaps a Queen reaction regular? Speaking of Queen... One song a week is killin' me. So much I want you to listen to. I think the Day at the Races album would look great sitting beside Dark Side of the Moon on your wall. Two of my top 5 albums of all time together.
Dark_Helmut
Yeah I think I’ll do more videos with him here and there! And I know the one song a week is hard, I have to be patient too! The thing is I’m not in a huge rush, I love the culture of the community I’m having with you guys so I want to make sure I have content for you guys as we progress, cheers friend, glad you liked the video! 🔥😁
Andy and Queen once a week just isn't enough for me. I need more!
I actually caught myself this week coming to see what you had done, Andy, as it was Thursday here in the UK but still the middle of the night in the US. See, there's that time travel thing again haha In a couple of days I am moving back in time and traveling to the US for a few weeks.
Good breakdown guys, really enjoyed your thoughts. We'll done for recognising the 'Milky Seas' as space. Also 'many years away' -light years!
Also 'the land that our grandchildren knew' - grandchildren = future.
KNEW = past tense!
Mind blown yet?
Ian Wright
Hey friend I’m glad you enjoyed the video! And yeah I really enjoyed dissecting that song, I continue to be mind blown with every track! 🔥🔥
Brian doesn't use distortion he overdrive's his AC30 with a Treble booster. The guitar he and his dad built cost £8.00 = $ 6 . It was mad from a 100 year old fire place and bits off a motor bike and a knitting needle and other bits and bobs. As for your Ringo question he wrote octopuses garden
Love your guest! I think you two really got into interesting observations in the conversation. (Plus, unlike some other conversations I have seen on reactions, you guys are relaxed and real, not fake and posing!) Queen is my all time favorite band, and this one from Dr. May is great! (Given you majors you are a great fit for this band!) BTW Brian May is using an acoustic guitar on this song, not The Red Special. His voice is really good. Listen to some of his solo stuff. He is such a good singer, but he doesn't think so--but, if you were in a band with Freddie Mercury, I'd guess it would be hard to rate your own singing! :-)
parkviewmo
I’m glad you enjoyed me having him! He’s a great friend and musical mentor of mine, we have interesting conversations like these off camera literally all the time! I may have him on every once in a while! 😁🔥
@@andyandalex I would be very happy to see you both discuss the Queen tracks you react to. I felt it was great the way you saw one thing and he saw it another way and you were comfortable enough with each other to say so. I also loved the fact although there were two of you, you didn't need to act the fool, play around, laugh at inside jokes and the like. I see this on other group reactions and it puts me off. You can see they are only there for the views and likes.
@Hells Bells
Yeah we’re food friends and we can communicate idea and thoughts pretty well together, he told me he’d love to do more videos with me so we’ll have to record another soon! 😁
One of my all time favourite Queen songs!
This is one of my top five or six songs and it's crazy that it is but I just love it because it's folk like. Plus that awesome Roger Taylor falsetto!! It's great weather Bian sings it or Fred sings it, and it's just the perfect song to listen to sitting by a bonfire on the beach.
I'd "listened" to this song for years without considering the meaning behind the lyrics. Once I found out, it became one of the saddest songs I know.
"Oh, so many years have gone though I'm older but a year
Your mother's eyes, from your eyes, cry to me"
A self professed Queen fan who hasn't listened to A Night At the Opera? You've got work to do. Start with Queen 1.
durban73 37nabrud
I’ll make sure he gets on it! 😁
can't even describe how much i love this reaction video! as someone who loves astronomy, i appreciate you guys going in depth on the meaning of this song. Brian May definitely created a beautiful masterpiece with '39.
I really enjoyed your reaction/analysis with Alex, other people's reaction videos often have little or no reaction in them.
Ernest Quinch
I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Him and I both play instruments, he’s in a band actually, so we definitely channel the flow of the music maybe a little more intensely than some others on RUclips haha, have a great night friend! 🔥😁
As well as Brian making his guitar, John Deacon made an amp for Brian. The Deacy amp.
Great video, I enjoyed your chat :) Always good to see people talking about Queen! I have a degree in Computer Science, definitely a type that appreciates their cleverness! (Ps Brighton Rock! Brighton Rock! 😆)

Okay listen, do not tell anybody, shhh.. Brighton Rock is going up next Thursday! 🔥😁😁😁
Ps. I’m glad you enjoyed the video!! 😁
I figured you'd like this one. :D Glad you and your buddy can appreciate the theme and the unorthodox musical style to approach it.
Brian has such a lovely, soothing tone to his voice -- he still sounds exactly like that! Even his speaking voice is amazing, I could happily listen to him talk about anything.
Darnaguen
Yeah we loved the track, and I’m glad you liked the video and analysis friend! And yes his singing voice is marvelous! 😁
39 is like an HG Wells Novel put to music. Great stuff.
Coming up on 5 years on the channel for Sir Alex
The brilliance of this song is that everything about it - lyrics, instrumentation, the sea shanty rhythm - strongly alludes to the days of tall ships heading for the New World, as in the Americas in the 1600s & 1700s. Then the plot twist in the final verse just rips your heart out.
I’ve listened to A Night at the Opera so much, I can’t listen to this without hearing the guitar for Sweet Lady in my head
I have always imagined that Brian wanted it to have the feeling of a sailors lament. That, because a ship was involved, he wanted that old voyaging connection.
ellbeeuu
Yeah and that connection paired with the folky tone and chords just made it brilliant! Cheers friend! 😁🔥
Do check out a live version of this as well, slightly different feel to it being a "bring back the band to the stage" kind of song. A nice reaction and a great analysis. Brian did another rather good song on the A Night at the opera album, "Good company" where he lets the guitar act as a jazz band. Well worth a listen. It would be cool to see your reaction to "It's late", another Brian May song from the "News of the world" album.
Jorma
Hey I’m glad you enjoyed the video friend, and awesome thanks for the suggestions! 🔥😁
Make sure it’s an early live version, when Roger is still doing his incredible high notes live. The earlier the better.
Space/time travel! Love this song!!!!!!
Whoa, one of my favorite Queen songs, and you did it so long ago! And the beginning of A&A??? Auspicious...
awesome reaction and analysis. in case you don't know, Queen members Brian may and Roger Taylor have been touring with Adam Lambert for the past six years and are as big and still as amazing as ever. anyway, in past concerts, Brian would sing '39 and would talk about the scientific aspects of the song, Einstein and the times at which he wrote the song, the concept of interplanetary colonization sounded cool, but not so much now, given how our own planet is so screwed up. he would 'take' the audience on a trip and introduce the "members of the crew (band). here is but one sample of it from a performance in 2014. ruclips.net/video/Rv2tKdf70u4/видео.html&frags=pl%2Cwn enjoy. enjoy.
Diana North
Hey I’m glad you enjoyed the video! And thanks a bunch for that info and the tip on that live performance! Have a great night! 🔥🔥
When this song came out, it was my favorite song for a long, long time. And Roger does the high notes.
cphershon
Yeah that’s what you guys were telling me,
That man’s range is INSANE! 😁🔥
AndyReacts It IS insane. Try Lap of the Gods for even more insane Roger vocals, which he trills off while playing the drums like it’s nothing.
I just decided to watch this old video of u guys and damn this is the first one with Alex.
Brian May’s voice is on top of the song he wrote. It is one of my favorite Queen song. Try Brian’s singing “Too Much Love Will Kill You”. You can play the video clip from you tube. He also has a duet with Luciano Pavarotti ( in Italian version). I feel the sing is so special. You also try to play Freddie’s version.
I loved your reactions, guys, Queen were "rock gods" to us (Im 60 now). Check out other Queen albums for some really sweet tunes.
Just wanted to say that, i have been a Queen fan my whole life (i'm 41 y/o), but i'm ashamed to say that this is the first time i've heard this song, and that because of this reaction i've just been to Amazon and bought 39.
Cheers!
That's awesome friend! Glad I was able to share a new song with you! Cheers! :)
My favorite queen song.
hifijohn
Not a bad favorite! 😁
Okay, yeah Roger on the high stuff... :)
I am so glad you guys teamed up! You really complement each other.
I'm a huge fan of Queen and this song is one of my favorites among many. When I first heard this thirty years ago I had the impression of an old WWII vet coming back to visit the beaches of Normandy with his grand-daughter in tow. The tone and feel of the song has such a feeling of reminiscence that it almost felt derived of some older tune from that era. Eventually finding that it was about space/time travel still left the overall emotional feel of the story.
Not the first video from you that I’ve watched but I just wanted to say that the pair of you make a good reviewing team. Love that you actually listen to the whole song before making comments unlike a lot of other online reviewers out there. Keep up the good enjoyable work Andy and Alex. 🤘👍🏻
@Jo Russell
😁😁😁
So I am a fan of your reviews (especially the Rush ones like the Spirit of Radio)… but I found this just NOW October 2023… and really enjoyed the breakdown of the lyrics!
What brought me… was the brilliancy of ‘39 and Brian May’s guitar wizardry and lush folky sound on that 12-string.
I had heard it said that Brian lobbied hard for this to be a single which never happened… but Mr. May, this piece is every bit the masterpiece of any song on A Night At The Opera.
I’m so thankful I saw them with Freddy back in 1981 - in Detroit.
I had to look up what this song was about when I first heard it because of the line "in the land that our grandchildren knew." That line was not making sense because well, it can't make sense unless you understand the dynamic that transpired. Okay, Brian's song, so here is his story (s) about this song. (1)The song relates the tale of a group of space explorers who embark on what is, from their perspective, a year-long voyage. Upon their return, however, they realise that a hundred years have passed, because of the time dilation effect in Einstein's special theory of relativity, and the loved ones they left behind are now all dead or aged. (2) I felt a little like that about my home at the time, having been away and seen this vastly different world of rock music which was totally different from the way I was brought up. People may not generally admit it but I think that when most people write songs there is more than one level to them - they'll be about one thing on the surface, but underneath they're probably trying, maybe even unconsciously, to say something about their own life, their own experience - and in nearly all my stuff, there is a personal feeling. - Brian May, on the meaning of "'39" Freddie spoke about this album, Night At The Opera, saying that the band spent months in the studio on it making sure that every molecule of the album was perfect. It was an expensive endeavor but that they all were very proud of and pleased with the end result. Every track is perfection whether the song is of your liking or not, the management of the music is Spot-On. If you think you hear flutes, clarinet, piccolo, strings, etc., on this album, it is Brian doing all of it on his guitar (On 39 Brian used 5 different guitars) or Roger doing it with his voice. On this album, it is the four of them, period. Brian was teasing John and told him that he wanted him to play the Double Bass on the song 39. Much to Brian's surprise, a few days later John showed up in the studio with the bass having written the whole bass line and played it on the song. So listen for it, it has a nice round tone. Way to ace it, Deaky!
This is the best analysis I have heard about '39. Kudos! Thanks for this great reaction! This was probably the first Queen song I learned by heart, and I often find myself singing it in the shower :P
@Laila Ulvseth
Hey again!! Glad you enjoyed it, and what a fun song to sing in the shower! 😁
Love this song and Brian's voice! All their music is a surprise.
This is my favorite song from the Night At The Opera album. I got to see them perform this live in '78. That alone made the concert awesome for me. Of course the whole concert was fantastic. Nice job breaking down the lyrics.
Guys, you totally pegged it - I'm impressed. What you thought as to people traveling in space, that's exactly what the lyrics meant, and Brian May said it's supposed to consider Einstein's theory, and the travelers return and their loved ones have aged. That's a great call.
Yes, Brian May is singing - there weren't many songs Freddie sang background on. I've loved Queen since 1973, seen the original band three times, and they were so very amazing to see.
Anyhow, love your videos - thanks for playing the songs through and do I'll end such thorough discussions after - my husband and I really enjoy your guys' reaction videos especially!
When I heard this song In the beginning of the song I was like Good Luck then in the ending when I saw the lyrics I was just Sad they time travel and bring good news but their loves ones are old or dead
Also in Passengers when the ship wakes up Chris Pratt’s character he tries to send a distress message back to earth but his message won’t get there for 60 some years and he’s the only one awake.
Every album by Queen features each of the band members singing the songs they each wrote.
I love this breakdown of the lyrics so much!! I feel like if you listen to '39 you HAVE to know the meaning behind the lyrics to fully appreciate the magic of the song (': '39 is one of my fave queen songs 💗 also I LOVE how you guys genuinely love and appreciate the artists you review (: keep it up!!
Gaaaadd I fucking love this channel! The commentaries, the reactions!!! Been looking for raw reactions like this! Please keep it up! And please don’t mind my foul mouth. Hard trash for Queen and I love you’re loving them. Please listen to all their songs. You’ll love everything. 🔥
@Maria Diestro

Haha, I’m glad your enjoyed the video! I liked the song a lot, cheers friend! 🔥😁
I like the discussion between the two of you. Bring Alex back more!
Loved this discussion!
All four of them also composed pieces for the Flash Gordon score as well!
You guys should review Teo Torriatte. Written by Brian May and has lyrics in Japanese. The first line sung by Freddie “When I am gone” is ethereal.
I agree excellent song 👏
The gr8 thing is that this was 1975
Got to see them do this live in September 1980 at Madison Square Garden. Great show!!!
That’s awesome!! 🔥😁
Brian uses other guitars than the Red Special for acoustic numbers + Crazy Little Thing Called Love has a second electric guitar in it, he begins that song on acoustic, shifts to other electric and then the Red Special.
Live versions are really fun. They all go in front of the stage and Freddie sings the leads.
Great song... I listen to it daily lmao I have a stereo above the bed it's by far my fav song on the album
Reminds me so much of the SF book by Robert Heinlein Time for the Stars. Old rejoins young.
You guys are so smart. And insightful.
It always amazes me that so few people have ever heard this song, even so called Queen fans. This song was on their most successful album (A Night At The Opera) and was actually a hit played on the radio at the time, so it's not like it's an obscure song. This is my favorite Queen song.
Loved the in depth talk! Bring your friend back on thursdays :)
Here’s once more my vote for Mustapha!
Polux Saurus
Im glad you enjoyed the analysis! I think I may do Brighton Rock next but my friend I can promise I’ll do Mustapha soon!! 😁😁🔥
@@andyandalex That's cool, you'll love that one too!
Try another Brian May vocal - Sleeping on the Sidewalk from News of the World, pretty cool song and feel.
