Okay here's some history about this song.
It was totally Freddie's idea, lyrics, music.
Freddie was super pissed when he wrote this.
There are interviews by Brian speaking about this.
Supposedly, John Reid paid Trident £100,000 to buy Queen out of their contract.
Queen was almost bankrupt, while Trident was getting rich off their tours, singles and albums.
"Death on Two Legs (Dedicated to...)" is a song by the British rock band Queen, and is the opening track on their fourth album A Night at the Opera.
The song was written by Freddie Mercury about the band's fall-out with their original manager and Trident Studios owner Norman Sheffield.
Though the song makes no direct reference to him, Sheffield was appalled when he heard a playback of the song at Trident at the time of the album's release, and sued both the band and the record label for defamation.
This resulted in an out-of-court settlement, thus revealing to the public his connection with the song.
Roger Taylor also noted that despite the success of Killer Queen and Sheer Heart Attack, the album preceding A Night at the Opera, the band was broke before the album was made.
Sheffield denied that he or his companies had mistreated the band in his capacity as manager, and cited the original 1972 management contracts between himself and Queen in his autobiography published in 2013, Life on Two Legs: Set The Record Straight, in his defence.
The song was recorded and mixed at Sarm East Studios in late 1975.
As with "Bohemian Rhapsody", most of the guitar parts on the song were initially played on piano by Mercury, to demonstrate to Brian May how they needed to be played on guitar.
    Composition
The song is dominated by guitars, strong lead and backing vocals as well as piano. It's in 4/4 meter, and has a piano arpeggio intro with heavy guitars, bowed double bass, mechanical sounding noise and a loud shriek by Roger Taylor, which abruptly leads into the song in B minor.
There are numerous subsections and layers, as was typical for Queen at the time. The verses have short sections with the tempo virtually halved, and the choruses are emphasised with strong harmonies and drum fills.
Drum! magazine said of Taylor's drum work: "[...] Shortly after the 2/4 measure there’s an unusual snare accent on the & of 4 and a change to a half-time groove. These back-and-forth feel changes continue throughout the song and Taylor somehow makes them flow smoothly."
    Lyrics
Mercury later recalled that he had tried to make the lyrics as "coarse as possible", and that the other band members were initially shocked at the harsh lyrics.
However, the band agreed that the song should be performed as Mercury intended, and it was recorded as such.
Author Michael Chabon remarked that "A Night at the Opera is where I progressed from 45s to albums.
It was gate-fold, with the lyrics printed on the inside, and you could just sit there poring over them and trying to figure who Freddie might be talking about on songs like 'Death on Two Legs'."
    Live recordings
"Death on Two Legs" was regularly performed live by Queen up to and including The Game Tour.
Only one live version of the song has been officially released, on the 1979 album Live Killers.
The piano introduction, however, was played during the Hot Space and The Works tours.
During live performances Mercury would usually dedicate the song to "a real motherfucker of a gentleman."
This line was censored (using bleeps) on their Live Killers album in 1979.
On the Protomen's cover album, A Night of Queen, lead singer Raul Panther dedicates the song to "a real asshole that Freddie Mercury used to know."
The song is featured in Rock Band Blitz, subsequently released as downloadable content in the Rock Band store, performed by Queen themselves.
Death on Two Legs" can be referred to as Freddie Mercury's hate letter to Queen's first manager, Norman Sheffield, who for some years was reputed to have mistreated the band and abused his role as their manager from 1972 to 1975.
Sheffield denied the allegations in his 2013 autobiography entitled "Life on Two Legs: Set The Record Straight", and referred to copies of the original 1972 management contracts between Sheffield and Queen, which were included in the book as proof of his defence.
Though the song never makes direct reference to him, after listening to a playback of the song at Trident Studios during the time of album release, Sheffield was appalled, and sued the band and the record label for defamation, which resulted in an out-of-court settlement, but also confirmed his connection to the song.
During live performances, Mercury would usually rededicate the song to "a real motherfucker of a gentleman", although this line was censored on the version that appeared on their Live Killers album in 1979.
Other than on the live album, he said it was dedicated to a "motherfucker I used to know".
In the Classic Albums documentary about the making of A Night at the Opera, Brian May stated that the band was somewhat taken aback at first by the bitterness of Mercury's lyrics, and described by Mercury as being "so vindictive that he [May] felt bad singing it".
After the song came together, it was agreed that the "author should have his way", and the song was recorded as written.
"Death on Two Legs" remained on the set-list until, and well into, The Game Tour in 1980, and was then dropped.
However, the piano introduction was played during the Hot Space and Works tours.
Next you should react to the big sister to this song, Flick of the Wrist.

@@peteq1972 It was actually, in real life, about two brothers, the Sheffields.
They basically ripped Queen off quite legally but underhandedly up until '75 when Q hired Elton's manager John Reid to break the contract.
At the time of recording, the band were being paid around £60 a week while the brothers were driving Rolls Royce luxury vehicles.
      Freddie was a little angry.

Bravo to the band. I had a co-worker who was very unpleasant and took great pleasure in insulting her coworkers. I generally ignored her, but when she insulted my work, it was the last straw. My brain went somewhere else and without raising my voice or using foul language I told her exactly what I thought of her. What I didn't realize was the program director had come into the office and was sitting across the aisle. Nothing was said and 3 months later I was promoted and received a bonus.

You're quickly becoming my favorite Queen reactor! It's so much fun to listen to all these songs I love so much through new ears, I really thank you for doing Queen.
"Get Down Make Love" from News Of The World (1977) is an incredible song, I've been searching everywhere and as far as I know, nobody has reacted to this song yet. I can't even try to describe how awesome this song is.
Also "I'm In Love With My Car" from Night At The Opera (1975) has always been one of my favorite songs to blast when I'm driving. The song is even more incredible because Roger Taylor (the drummer) sings the song while playing and never misses a beat.
Thanks again for bringing Queen to a new (and old) audience!
PS: "Death On Two Legs" has always been one of my favorites, then again I may possibly say that after each Queen song I listen to. Mercury Poisoning is a real thing and I have it!

I love to see people reacting to this song! It’s savage beyond savage! I see someone gave you the history behind it. The music companies, bastards that they are, really inspired a lot of bands to write amazing songs lol. Especially in the ‘70s/80s. Billy Squier’s “The Stroke” was about the music business and its shadiness. Interesting side note, Squier was inspired by QUEEN and their sound when he wrote that song.

I knew you were a keeper the moment i put your channel on and Floyd was playing. I have always LOVED Death on Two Legs, The most lovely hate song. I have listened to Queen & Floyd since their beginnings. There are of course so many but how about : March of the Black Queen, White Queen, Liar, The Prophet Song, Great King Rat, My Fairy King, Show Must Go On, I Want IT All, Under Pressure done with David Bowie. Freddie's range makes the hair on your neck take notice. Spread your Wings, Somebody to Love. There are so many so here are a few suggestions. I really enjoyed watching your facial expressions and very much you knew who they were talking about. Others I have watched don't have a clue. I just joined and believe I'm going to enjoy you. Keep up the good work. Also Now I'm Here dedicated to Mott The Hoople, a band they opened for and became good friends. Mott's song All The Young Dudes was big back then. Might want to take a listen. After the first time I heard "Bohemian Rhapsody" in November of 1975, I bought the album as soon as I saw it in stores. Imagine 12-yr old me getting home and hearing this to start the album. It was them most wicked thing I'd heard ever in my life, and it was the one track on the album I would skip over if I knew my Mom was in earshot. I was hooked - it primed me for the onslaught of Punk Rock a couple years later.

The rest of the band didn't want to put this song on the album as written, because it was so scathing, but Freddie refused to soften the blow of the song and in the end, the band decided the author's wishes should and would be honored. QUEEN already had two top charting albums under their belts and they were all still broke, living like they did before they started, with their manager taking everything that was left after the taxman took his cut. QUEEN didn't mention any names in the song so they felt that they would be safe, though Freddie didn't give a $hit what happened, he just needed to call the guy out in a public way. As it turned out the manager sued the band which was alright with them because that was the guy publically admitting that he knew the song was about him so it was an admission of guilt as the band saw it. QUEEN settled out of court and later the manager tried to redeem himself by producing contracts, etc., and saying he did nothing illegal, in a public appeal to salvage his career. I am thinking QUEEN won this battle and I am guessing the guy never got a chance to do this to another band. It proved to be a good lesson for QUEEN who decided to manage themselves which worked out well for them in the long run, each member taking on a specific task(s) in the running of the business. From what I have read, John Deacon who is now retired, still handles the finances of QUEEN but doesn't keep in touch in any other way, though he is informed of all decisions being made by the band. I love the hammer drop of this song and I am glad that Freddie put this out there. Beyond the lyric, the instrumentation is so good and the entire end product the perfection we all expect from QUEEN.
