Man your vids are the best
You look just as good as before #nohomo
Watching the vid and listening to what u say carefully. I think u should mount the go pro a bit further to the center of the car to even out the weight distribution on the wheels. Notice it doing wheelies all the time in the water but when u accidentally moved the go pro forward it ran good.

I have the exact same RC car!
The Bison has a 4WD drive with central diff, wich means that it's front wheels can spin fast, while the back wheels spin slow, depending on the individual drag.
I think this is what is causing the issues with the front jumping out of the water and the car not gaining enough speed. If you could lock the differential somehow, this issue could be fixed!
I agree
He says "I shouldn't be a youtuber" the proceeds to get the most epic footage of an RC car doing flying across a lake. Seriously props to him. The shot where he drove the RC car towards him and a close up on a gopro at the same time was awesome.

Hey RCLifeOn, I found your channel about a year ago when I got my first 3D printer, and I gotta say, you've inspired me with so many of your videos. You do such a fantastic job maintaining quality and expanding on your own ideas in a way that I can understand. You've helped me get started on a few projects that I'm designing with Fusion 360. Please, don't ever stop these videos, you have no idea the reach you have, don't let RUclips's algorithm get to you, if you keep up the kind of work that you've displayed in almost every video you have on this channel, you'll reap the rewards eventually.

The obvious problem: *The grooves from the tires. They are "digging in" the water.* You should have either shorter grooves or more rounded ones.
I know you will probably bot even see this comment or not even want to rework on this.
Either way, nice try and cool visuals on the video in general.
no! they need to be larger and straight in an angle, have you seen quadbikes sand tires?
I think the lips should be at angle, not shorter. I do thing you’re right about digging in the water though! I also think he should make the back wheels get less traction on the water and the front wheels more. Or shift the weight more to the front..
maybe turn the tires around, like on a tractor
wardwyseur Literally the whole video I was like TURN THE WHEELS AROUND SO THAT THE GROOVES ARE PUSHING AWAY FROM THE WATER INSTEAD OF DIGGING IN THE WATER. Just a thought
I thought the same thing. why not just turn the wheels around. So instead of digging, they are just flapping over the water. Car get's less speed, but should get more "air time" and stay over the water.

what i have learned in this video is to keep trying no matter how many times you fail. i dont have as much patience , something i should work on. thanks for the video
The front wheels were a bit a problem cause they are jumping a lot and every time they hit the water it puts resistant to the back wheels
so you lose momentum i suggest to put something heavy in the front so the front wheels be useful or change the front wheel with skis like snowmobile
Yeah, if its a four-wheel-drive car it makes more sense to keep all wheels on the water at least most of the time. However, small boats tend to be designed to be slightly back heavy so the bow sits higher in the water and makes it easier to cut through the water better. I think rather than adding weight to the front, simply moving the camera mount and adjusting the balance point by moving internal parts around would be enough adjustment to keep the car more level on the water.
NOJ might want to be careful about comparing this machine to the way the boat cuts through water. They are fundamentally different i. how they interact with the water. this RC relies on the surface tension of the water to ride on. the more force pushing down on the water, the more likely the drone will sink. OP is right about the bouncing front wheels causing momentum loss. Though for the sake of science I say he should try both weights, I’m biased toward weight on the front. what do you think?
I would think it is that camera and brace that is making it heavy in the back.
Why doesn't this guy have 2mil subs already ?

I'm impressed you managed to keep the smoke in the electronics!
So many people don't realise that's what keeps the electrics going. Keeping the smoke inside the wires.
I don’t get it
@@bondebos3478 a common misconception is that electronics require metal and electricity to work, but they dont. All electronics actually run on the smoke that is contained inside the wires and circuit boards. If you let said smoke out, then you're hoopajooped and you've gotta buy new equipment.

RCLifeOn: posts video. Me: goes absolutely bananas!
A clear shot of rainbow
Dat is freaking Awesome!
your central differential seems way too soft: each time the front wheel leave the water surface, you lose so much traction by dissipating power in the front wheels... and your suspension are way too firm: you have almost no damping! soften heavily your spring and slightly decrease the oil viscosity: you will have a way more stable platform. keep the juice!
scsiense
This. Also maybe shift the centre of mass forwards a bit because the front is jumping up a lot.
I was thinking the same James, go pro so far out in the back there was taking way too much weight off the front. But otherwise a really cool attempt.
I bet results would improve by putting sortof like skis on the bottom (extending out the back a bit) to give it some ability to kinda surf across the water surface, since as it is now any water that hits the body of the car just slows it down to make it start sinking.

You should create two pontoon skis for the front "wheels" and just used two rear paddle wheels. Much better control and less friction.
Good idea but then it’s not a “car”
@@brendanbordeaux8421 I thought about that too, before I posted; but technically it still would be a car, since it is driven by a motor and using wheels to push off the water. However, planes that land and take off on water are still planes. They just have the ability to float and even used a runway--with some pontoons containing small wheels under them.
@@TW-lt1vr does that mean a river boat with the paddle wheel in the back is a car?
Wouldn’t work on land...

"Gunilla, Gunilla, that bloody kid is trying to drive his damned car on our lake again"
I wonder if adding underbody treatment could help keep it buoyant and or stable
Or if he actually gave it a hydroplane it would help give it elevation in the water.
I love that you didn't cheat by putting floats on the chassis. That it stays above the water is 100% due to the speed, momentum and of course your wheel design. Fantastic achievement.
Having said that, add some underbody styrofoam and it could stay out on the water all day.

Good thing I’m Swedish
@@teodormalmgren8293 I'm not swedish but i understood what he said, at least the middle bit, the first bit sounded like just incoherent yelling with excitement, and the last bit was too faint for me to make out.
or maybe it’s just a phrase that doesn’t translate well?
@@allegorx58 From what i could gather, when it said [swedish] it sound like they're just yelling with excitement, and then Simon said "Look at that!" as he picked up the camera, and then i can't make out what else they say, and when it says [more swedish] it sound like Simon is talking about the RC Car's battery, that it's low or something.
"Thankyou for watching, I will never do this again." Priceless.
Biggest flaw or obstacle you have is your central diff doesn't feed power equally to all wheels once it hits water
Front ones spin up and bounce on the water and rear ones slow down and stop planeing
Try locking up all 3 differentials with silicone putty earplugs and try again
He’s using the hpi savage flux which could already have solid differentials available on online hobby stores
I honor this guy it took almost two weeks to make this video and the editing
Add 2 more wheels on the back and that will keep the front wheel from coming up and will triple the torque compared to when you only have 2 wheels pushing

I can't believe in 7min u have 1.6K views and 60 comments... If that doesn't give you perspective of how many people in the world there are idk what will.
Try driving it underwater by putting concrete in the wheels
It would have to be very clear water, or else you would run the risk of losing the car. It would work in a pool, but that’s kinda small.
You would use fpv and have gps and compass so you know where it is and what direction it’s going
Finally, a true all-terrain vehicle
adding a spine down the center of the front two wheels would help keep the car straight and allow you to steer some. Check out sand tires for some similar designs to what you have and you might be able to get all the way across the lake
Change the front wheels, they creating too much drag on the water.
I second that
I 'd say that when it goes wheelie, the front wheels spin faster (because of no friction) and the rear wheels loose speed. And that's why it goes wheelie and then back down, front wheels slow down and then again it goes wheelie and the cycle repeats itself.
I'd convert it to rear wheel driven only to solve this.
he should add weigth to the front, and modify both front and rear wheels ... the should be different though, I agree with that.
@@Evans_Man it has 3 differentials one in the front and the backand a centre one where the spur gears which is why when it gets onto a wheeliethe front wheels will go faster than a back as the diff will spin the wheels that have less friction faster
@@Evans_Man Or he could go with no center diff.

I agree with Nik, capsbr and Manual Frias. Your front wheels should take more load, that would (hopefully) stabilize the ride. Since they don't do propulsion, you could design them to give you max uplift in the water (e.g. flat center) and some side-traction on sand (ridges along the diameter). Or - extreme version - just let the car slide at the front; with the slides having roughly the same profile: two rails on the sides and a flat center-piece (or a rail in the center and flats on the outside or ......).
Your back wheels similarly might have two sections, the center - smooth - for lift, the sides - paddles - for propulsion.
I absolutely love the project ... and your persistence.
I love the air footage with heli. sound...
Drone shots with the helicopter effects is freaking mind blowing lol
need for speed race in the water that's cool dude thanks for sharing
Love this guy so much
You should use very soft shocks cus when the wheels hits small waves they dont absorb very well and it goes deeper in the water making it loose rpm, and you should increase the contact with the water somehow
RCLifeOn: Drags wheel out of screen.
Me: Puts face in screen because of amazement
The solution is easy. Needs a flexible wheelie bar. Simple. Flexible pole/ poles coming out the back like a wheelie bar, with tiny hull on the end. Would even correct slight course deviations.
