I have a computer science degree and applied for jobs so long that I had to get a $16/hr job working in a factory. Been applying for over a year to get a $20+/hr job, and no dice. Hard times.
A year after covid they were hiring everywhere. People were sitting at home collecting free money talking about “quiet quitting” I don’t want to hear it. 😂
Me either. I said yesterday that I’m not applying for anything else. If I don’t get it from what’s out there now, it’s not for me. America is a nightmare.
Yeah this place has become a real sh*thole and it’s intentional to try and keep up this facade of the job market being great when it’s absolutely isn’t and to force people to keep jobs they don’t want even if your treated like crap or aren’t paid well and to make their current employees work harder at the fear of being fired even though their not being treated well or paid well and to me it’s rather sinister, to play games with people’s lives like this, when people just tryna survive
20yr loan officer here. $190k total over 2021/2022. Laid off 11/5/22. So it was 2 years, just the other day. Ive been Uber'in since I ran out of cashola which was about a year ago. I feel ya. I just cant anymore. Too depressing. Same experiences here as well.
Me also. Covid did my business in, and I haven't recovered. Went from 6 figures to $18 an hour. At least I raised my kids, and they're all adults now. I don't need the large income, and I am grateful I have the job I do.
Sorry to hear you have been going through that. Congrats on being resilient and finding a way to bring in an income after the layoff. Good luck out there.
@@winniecash1654but 18$ an hour cant help survive a month with all expenses. you may not have car payments or live in a dirt cheap apartment?. im trying to figure out how to downgrade to live on that kind of pay.
December marks a full year of being unemployed, and this job market has been incredibly challenging. I've had a few close calls, making it to the final rounds in several interviews, only to lose out to candidates making career jumps. Thankfully, I have a small side hustle that helps, though it doesn’t cover everything. Here’s hoping 2025 brings positive changes for all of us!
Sorry to hear you have gone through that. Thank you for sharing. Having a side hustle is great because it will eventually grow and then maybe it can one day become the full time job. 2025 is going to be our year!
I was laid off early this year. Fortunately, I just landed a new job. The process was a mental grind. As the months pass, the self doubt got louder. We've heard all the antidotes about the economy and the market conditions. But between these ears, it was just happening to me. I was the one going through late round interviews and not getting the jobs. I was the one that had to wrestle myself from the disappointments and start over. Again and again. Fight when you have the strength. Step away when you need to just breathe. Taking care of your mental health should be your top priority.
Same here, 20 months unemployed, 12 years in cybersecurity, multiple certs. I moved to a more rural location with a remote job that I lost. Nothing out there remote anymore or locally. My last ditch effort is moving back to the city I came from in the spring if I can land something that’ll let me relocate.
I would try to save the money with going out in person via flights because employers are extreme flakey and when unemployed each dollar counts. I had a job back out on me at the last minute last year when planning a move across the US and thankfully a month after got something. It could have easily went much worse.
Hey Charlie. Thank you for sharing. I agree, that remote jobs are over. Sorry to hear you have been going through this. I can see many people having to find many roommates or move back home in order to survive off the salaries being offered lately.
I knew when peeps starting working out of remote cabins that some day this would come back to bite them. Companies generally hate not having people in the office even tho its old school. Just as to do with making sure you are working and not screwing around. But companies have had to tolerate it, but more and more are calling people back into the office. I assumed it would take a recession for it to flip, where the companies had the power to tell people they have to come in, but I guess its happening sooner. But it was always going to happen. They might have to sell those homes at a loss too since less are remote working.
@@RainingZi I would recommend not asking a guy who hasn't had a job in almost 2 years about certs. Certs may get you in an entry level job, but experience, knowledge and your network trump any cert.
I admire your determination, however, businesses bought out the government long ago. I would seriously consider boycotting businesses, force a referendum on creating a third party, vote socialist or populist just to scare businesses into thinking there may be wealth distribution etc… The ultimate way to get back is to start forming communities similar to the Amish/Mennonites where you become minimally reliant on the “system”. I’m not saying you should become Amish/Mennonite but study how they operate as a community. You would be surprised how they can support themselves, working within their own community or selling to our communities. Either way, they know how to survive without relying on “Indeed” for employment.
@@shanesprecher8290This is awesome advice. Its unfortunate that even if I put in the work to get my own home and grow my own food, and buy as little as possible, it may be hard to get the country to that place as a whole where people can be less reliant on the "system". Consider how many rental units are being built and rented out in the US and how many people can even afford to make themselves self reliant in a meaningful amount of time without a good job. This is tough
I've noticed that I took this for granted. When I started my current job 23 years ago I stopped upgrading myself and just worked hard and did my job really well. My years of experience only means something where I'm at now. Anywhere else it means very little. I'm 52 and in good physical condition but I'm competing against engineers and technicians and generally people more qualified than me. So I feel stuck in the factory. Good luck with your search.
Thanks for the support and sharing your story. I know people who were experts in legacy technology and even built some software for their organization. But if that software is not used anywhere else, employers may not see their value. Good luck keeping that job until retirement so you don't have to re-enter the job market.
It’s not enough to be good at what you do. You have to be good at making things grow. Try to look for an imperfection within the process your team handles, then built a prototype to solve the problem. Then tell them you can solve similar problems in other areas if you have your own little team. And so on… your goal is not to be a good worker. Your goal is to be a change maker.
@etahhcumosevahi while that might be true, is this really sustainable to continue to expect for just any joe to merely keep a job? Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but it sounds like we're saying every employee needs to now function as an entrepreneur within their own company. It's definitely a great thing to shoot for, but to ask everyone to do it on a grand scale seems to just suggest nobody should even work for a company and just work for themselves. Hope I'm not misinterpreting.
My husband is self employed. Business slowed down to barely a crawl. We have savings but shit keeps coming up. I then went out and got a job in 2022 to help relieved some of my husband stress. Then I got laid off. Took another 7 months to find another job. I took the first one that gave me an offer. Luckily it turned out to be a good company and the pay isn’t too bad. If we’re careful we can get by without dipping into our reserves. Thank goodness my husbands business is starting to pick up again.
You are a good woman and I assume you are from a older generation from which women believed in actually working together with their husband's instead of leaving them when things got rough.
Good luck with the business. I hope it thrives in 2025. Keep me updated. Sounds like you have great team work. That will get you through these tough times.
@@deadcell1My husband and I are in our late 40’s and been together since our teenage years. Our belief is we are a team. As long as we work together we will be able to get through anything. We survived 2008, we will be okay this time around also. We don’t even argue about finances. We just discuss the issue and come up with a game plan.
Gotta be applying at the companies official sites, not the jobs platform, only use the Jobs Platform as a discovery for the jobs. Don't waste your time on Cover Letters unless it asks for it. Reduce resume to be as simple as possible, and only have what you need for the role types your applying for. Don't worry about years of experience stuff, if you think you can do the job, apply anyway. Also, entry level jobs are harder to get into, than the mid, and senior level ones, due to saturation, so apply for higher levels too. Personal preference, but I stopped bothering applying at companies that don't don't show the salary, coz you say the number, they just drop you, coz you don't know the magic number to tell them to get to the interview stage. Don't bother with the recruitment agencies, they just waste your time. Thank you for listening to my TED talk.
I agree, but a lot of times the jobs are gate kept by third parties and you don't know the name of the company until the recruiter reaches out to you. Thanks for the comment. I appreciate the insight.
@@charliedallachie3539was just about to say this. Many people say to apply on the actual companies website, but job boards will actually forward you to the job posting on said company’s site.
2022 business grad, never found an entry level job with my degree. i did everything right - internships, high GPA, worked straight through college, avoided loans. this is the reward we get for following what's "right" and the rug was ripped out from under us. have never been able to afford moving out of my dad's house. social life has been really damaged by the unemployment issues too.
damn you did internships and still can't get anything? I'm beating myself up because I didn't do any internships at all. Got an econ degree and can't even get hired as a bank teller.
You gotta get your foot in the door first, why not just start as the janitor and work your way up? The pay will suck but you're not there for the income, you're there for the contacts.
I hear ya and I’m right there, too. I’ve been laid off 3 times within the past 5 years with almost 2 decades worth of experience in my field. Applying to jobs is more than a full time job.
@@brianhensien I do agree but I believe there is going to come a time where only the wealthy will be the only ones that will be able to afford any kind of security. If we ever go through hyper inflation only the fields that are absolutely essential to the economy will survive.
I'm right there with you. Been looking for 8 months plus 4 months last year. I have experienced every single thing you said, including the scams (which sometimes arrive via whatsapp). And i DO every workday application. To make it worse I am over 60, which makes it 10x harder plus I have to pay my own health ins, which is like $900/mo and of course nobody gaf. Fortunately I should be fine even if I just retire, but that was not the plan. Just today was thinking I can't do this bs anymore and will wait until next year. Add to that recriminating myself for not having done better career planning. Self-esteem is in the s---house. You are not alone!!
@@ahappilydrunkpuppy8961 What people don't realize is if you are over 60 and make too much to be subsidized by others you are looking at about $900-$1000/mo for basic health insurance that doesn't pay hardly anything until you've hit the $6k deductible. If you get sick, you pay.
Sorry to hear you are going through that. Thank you for sharing. Health insurance is so expensive and it doesn't even cover what it should for the costs. This job market is awful. Good luck out there!
I agree. Late November into December is the worst time to get hired any where. All the companies hiring for seasonal have hired all their employees by November 10th. The same goes for temp agencies. At this point every company is also going to wait to hire people so their first pay check is in the following year for tax purposes too. January is a fair month since it's beginning of the year, but often hiring doesn't really pick up again until April/May for the summer. February/March is often a lousy time to get hired.
Weird hearing about these hiring practices. It seems like HR is making busy work. It's like meeting people who are so busy trying to appear smart, rather than actully being productive.
The problem is people aren't applying for jobs where they are need. We are in a recession. You can't get fired from IT and think you are going to if another job in IT. That's stupid. In this environment you gotta go into an entirely new career field. You gotta apply for jobs the job markets is dictating, not what you think the job market should be. For instance, you know under Trump administration they will hiring for deportations, oil rigging, electricians, construction, welding, and etc. Sorry the age of white collar jobs are over. They are being replaced by AI and automation. If you need a job really badly join the military or merchant marines,
I’m sorry that you’re having a difficult time trying to find your next role. I’m in the same boat, and I come from the HR leadership world so I’ve been on the hiring side of the coin for many years. I’ve never seen anything like this job market. I’ve been fortunate and have had some interviews, and went all the way through all their hoops, games and interviews (several rounds)- only to be given assignments to do work for the company without pay. And one company had last minute budget cuts and paused the position until at least the end of the year and most likely longer. I’m also having a hard time finding part-time work because I’m “overqualified “. Hang in there, I wish you the best! Thank you for your video.
My husband has been experiencing this for over a year as well. He got laid off in Oct 2023. He's applied to so many jobs - hundreds, if not closer to 1000 at this point. He has also gotten dozens of interviews and been brought back for some 2nd and 3rd interviews, yet just keeps getting rejected and basically ghosted by all of them. He is also overqualified and can't even get a position at a convenient store or as a dish washer, despite trying for those kind of jobs too. Recently he's been giving up. I don't think he's applied for anything for over 3 weeks now. I don't blame him. A human can only take so much rejection for so long before it makes them start to have a full mental breakdown.
How do you all both get your bills pay I know it’s very hard to stay afloat without income coming in? I’m 18 years old getting ready to be on my own and secured employment with Landfill worker.
@terrell2269 good luck will trying to be on you're own its a jungle out here and the cost of rent alone you need two or Moore incomes you can't pay it by you're self unless you're renting a room for 700 or 800 bucks
Expecting someone to work for free is one of the most sinister things someone can do to someone in this day in age with how expensive life has become and how hard it is to survive out here with more than one job and they expect someone to work for free?! I swear it’s infuriating how they play on our faces smh
Go into Healthcare like occupational therapy, speech pathologist, nursing, or Health informatics(I.T for health field). Another route is joining a union trade such as HVAC, plumbing, electrician.
I wouldn't mind being an electrician. I like airplanes and boats. I imagine there's good work in the overlap. Probably all over the country - no "Silicon Valley" sort of thing. No hordes of young people in eastern Europe or India working remote to compete with. Just need official training, maybe some sort of certificate or license, and land a job.
Few remember this job market recession. It also derailed my original career plans too. Went self-employed and into the digital industries instead of law. No regrets.
In Toronto React Developers which prior to 2020 were making 110K-155K are now being hired at 60K-70K because of such an influx of engineers into the market.
influx and also outsourcing from what I've witnessed first hand. I now only do React for hobby projects after doing it since pre version 1.0, even though the quality of React code bases I've seen on sister teams is just as bad as what you'll normally find. I would recommend to branch out if possible and even from UI dev because it's not worth it. Even regardless of if you're passionate enough to do it for free -- which I pretty much do now as the market is backwards.
@giasone777 price doesn't come down so much as the companies are downsizing to copy Musk and Zuck or posting fake positions. It's like bizarro shrink flation w employees for temporary stock gains The demand is going up for jobs and the supply is going down.
Before u relocate to another state for a job, make sure you have a lot of savings in the bank. Moving is not cheap and very time consming. Far too often people will move into a new state, only to have their job offer rescinded or get laid off after a couple months. Now, they're stuck in a rut & have no way of going back home.
Yup. Been through that more than once. One job was in Oregon, applied to while living in Escondido California. It would have all worked out fine, except during the hiring process a bigger company out east bought the small company in Portland. Change of management already my first day, and change of project direction in the few following months. The Portland office closed about a year or so later. Everyone there had moved on to other, better jobs.
You should move to FL, you're in the healthcare industry so you'll have no shortage of work here. The average pay is going to be lower than what you were making up in Iowa but you'll at least have a job.
@@A_Well_Traveled_Man It depends on which part of FL are you moving to... If you are moving to a costal city be prepared to spend a large percentage of your income on housing. The more inland you go the cheaper things become but alot of the jobs are in the costal cities so it's a double edge sword. If you move to SW FL then you may want to brush up on your spanish, almost no one speaks English down there.
Be ready to explain specifically why hiring YOU (not someone with an equal resume) will make them more money or help their business in a measurable way. More than being a nice and qualified person. Don’t ask for a job as a gift, ask them to pay for what you specifically can provide to benefit their bottom line. Think like the hiring person or boss - what do they want to see?
During the pandemic, tech was where everyone wanted to be. There was an abundance of jobs, the jobs pay very well, and they were all remote at the time. So the tech job market became flooded with new candidates. Some self taught, some boot camp grads and some traditional college degree grads. Because there were now so many candidates, companies changed the interview process and how they hire. There's a lot of AI prescreening that eliminates you before a human ever sees your resume. If you are fortunate enough to get an interview there's usually many rounds and coding assessments, and live coding at some point. The hope is that many people will get fed up and move on to other things.
AI is looking through the resumes. If you don't have the correct keywords, your resume goes into the trash. There also to many ghost jobs out there. Look for a job the old fashion way. Hoof it, and you'll get better results. Don't worry if they are hiring or not. Go in and see if there are any job openings. If not, grab an application return that to the HR with your resume and good-luck. Repeat until you get the results that you're looking for.
After months of searching, I finally got a call from a tire warehouse. The most mundane and depressing work I have ever done but I’m at least making 18 now… Better than the mechanic work I have done. Breaking your back for literal scraps.
I feel you man. I just went back into blue collar. 3rd week in and am loving life. Zero stress. Great guys. No corporate BS. The pay sucks but I feel like I’ve found a cheat code for enjoying life again.
In the 59 years of living, I have learned that company's or corporate business doesn't guarantee a job to anyone. They will pic and choose whom they want or restructure as they see fit for the goal of profit maximization. If they can make huge profits without human work force and get higher efficiency from automated sources, that's the key to higher profits.
@LaborGains you're not alone finding it difficult to find employment. It's going to get worse, less employment, higher prices. This is what concerns me the most of all the issues today.
Become self employed immediately while seeking, and get gigs with smaller companies cuz they need accountants but not full time just to help with payroll and other accounting functions
you must have saved from 30yrs and accountants get paid well too. 1 month is nothing and with your experience and the kind of occupation you are going to find something relatively soon. if you are good at what you do then in 4-6 months u should find something
I've humbled myself from 100K to 50K. I was also in Tech. There comes a time when the money starts to run out and you need get whatever scrap is on the table. Work your way up again or wait until the market gets better.
I work in forestry and have been for almost 20 years so I literally cruise my RV to certain remote spots in the Rockies and spend days in the woods. I see videos like this and can't even imagine the grind in the city or working in an office for corporate over lords.

I’ve had interviews where the person doing the interview doesn’t show up! And I’m just sitting there in teams or zoom waiting. Have you watched interview videos on RUclips? I found some amazing ones with how to answer the questions. I was answering them in a plain kind of way and now I know how to answer them in a fantastic amazing way - i still may not get a job but it helped with my vocabulary on how I will speak to them in the future. No one needs a bachelors for this kind of job! But yeah I have a bachelors ….and I still don’t get hired when I apply.
In Canada, our government brought over 4 million immigrants (both temporary and permanent) in the last 3 years during COVID. We're bringing in 1.5 million people a year in a country with a population of 40 million. I wish I was joking when I say 90% of all minimum wage jobs are done by international students from India who came to study at diploma mill "colleges". Finding even a minimum wage job is a luxury in Canada. Full time employment is falling each month. Young people are actually screwed here. Imagine you can't get a job a McDonalds because there's 100 international students desperate to work. What a sad reality man.
Yes, Canada has been absolutely ruined by indian "students". It will take a decade to fix this, if not longer. The dollar will keep dropping compared to the USD, the politicians we have are some of the worst and most corrupt.
The town I live in has a similar problem only it's not students it's illegals everywhere you look even temp agencies is only hiring them too. It's gotten extremely bad here.
It's starting to sound more appealing to get a low paying job abroad working near the beach or the mountains, and go off for a walk in nature after you end your shift, than doing the same thing in America, where the only place that awaits you outdside is a depressing city.
@winniecash1654 I've floated a few ideas. A freelance journalism website, business plan consulting firm, a cookie shop just down the street from my house.
Well I do have an IT job and have been looking. Even being employed doesn’t guarantee that you will get a new job. Hiring is brutal. I get rejected fairly quickly. I don’t think we are at a 4.3% unemployment rate. It has to be higher.
Bro, I feel for you. It's so tough out there. When the conditions are bad, it's not you, it's the conditions. It ain't personal because so many others are experiencing the same. Until times improve, find ways to get by like developing your YT channel, temping, odd jobs, etc. It's like back in Great Depression, when people had to do anything they could to get by. Sad. 😞 The employment problem might start looking worse in 2025 and hopefully get more recognition. Right now, mainstream economists and media are oblivious and saying the job situation is solid. They're WWAAYY behind the curve! 🙄
I've given up applying for full jobs since June. That's a complete waste of time and energy. Many of my friend did it too. We all agree this is the worst time to get a job over the past 20 yrs.
@@ilovemytribe It depends. In my case, i decided to move to another place where my living expense would be lower. Then i started my side hustle and do some freelancer works. that is a great path to take be the best and fast a good barber will always have work and is a realistic small business to start that will work if you are good.
I worked for about a dozen years at my old company (I left to pursue other ventures a couple times and returned). Unfortunately I worked on older and proprietary systems, and didn't learn most of the libraries and stacks that are used these days. So I also don't meet the minimum requirements for most jobs. I don't mind taking a pay cut (it would all be better than the delivery driving I did for over a year) but it's hard to even find entry level tech jobs of any sort. It's no longer the good old days of being able to make up for a lack of qualifications by being a hard worker and a good culture fit. When guys with multiple degrees, masters, and all these certifications can't land anything, I feel like there's very little hope for someone like me.
Sorry to hear you have been going through this. Thank you for sharing. It's tough to find work when you don't have the exact experience that companies are looking for (since they don't train anymore). Also they would much rather outsource work to pay less than minimum wage and not provide benefits. Good luck out there!
Now is the time to apply for driver positions at UPS, Fedex and such. They have seasonal roles now, hiring ASAP. If they like you, in January they might offer a perm opportunity.
@@TheFracturedfuture The pay with UPS is on the order of $23 per hour, which is better than your 40000 job. You will not be successful at many things in life if you maintain a pessimistic attitude.
i applaud you for searching so hard but, until the economy gets better and companies start to grow this will be the normal way of life.. I have a buddy of mine that lost every single thing that he has ever owned, got his degree from North Texas in Denton, was a manager for this place out in arlington, TX and all he did was ask for a raise because he has not received one in over 2 years they let him go.. and this guy search so hard every single day for a job until he ran out of money from paying bills.. used up all of his saving's and had to move in with his aunt in another state, now he found a job after about 4 months there washing dishes, and i tell you.. you have no idea how happy this guy is.. he lost his apt, gave his car back to the dealership, left everything here in TX only took one bag of clothing with him, and is in his mid 40's and is so happy at his new job.. doesn't pay nothing near what he is used to, but as he said, he is finally getting a paycheck and starting over..
Well, you're going to have a start alot lower than you anticipated.. The CEO of Walmart started as a overnight stocker. Perhaps, maybe you can start as a janitor and work your way up. the pay is going to sucks but this opens the door for you to make contacts and demonstrate your abilities so you can move up.
Sorry to hear you are going through that. Thank you for sharing. Yea, some people have told me to take off the MBA (even though we worked hard for it) because it may scare some employers away who don't want to pay higher salaries right now. I applied to over 2000 roles this year before I stopped counting. It's not you, it's the job market. Good luck out there!
The messed up part is, they don't even let people know there aren't any openings. They have applicants run around with false hopes. I think this needs to be addressed.
In the 90’s this happened to me. I finally had to abandon my profession. I was young and broke. I took a way different job. Not related to my training nor education. It was okay and fun. But, eventually the market turned. I have never been able to recoup those lost years. But, I am okay. It is life.
I had six different art/design-related job interviews in 3 months here in Miami, was gaslit to all hell, promises of HR talks, promises to respond, tests, and tours of the company, and all day interviews and commutes for nothing, doing Amazon Seller to stay afloat. I was given an idea to apply abroad, and the process was much simpler. You apply, they call, and they make offers. It was between Taiwan, Korea, and China. But China gave me the job almost instantly, and I went with them. What is overlooked here in America is often regarded highly overseas, even fluent English. There will always be ups and downs with job markets, and when things are up, that's when you can return to doing what you love. So I moved from Art Teacher to English Teacher. All Good.
Thanks for sharing your experience. The amount of ghosting and games these companies are playing is unbelievable. It's very cruel. Glad you are able to stay afloat. You are moving to China or it's a remote job from China?
I'm 63 in the good ole days you would by a newspaper for 25 cents go through the want adds, make a phone call with a phone attached to a wall, show up in person, have an interview, get the job, shake the person's hand, start tomorrow. Oh and have Insurance in a few months that the company paid for. Now it's an unbearable nightmare!
OK I have a crazy idea here... I'm in a similar position but in Australia and I've been thinkin - the present situation of business whining about staff shortages simultaneously with unemployment screams an obvious case of market failure. This is also a huge opportunity for anyone who can solve the problem. What if tech people like ourselves gathered in a kind of tech-gang for mutual support and collective action - kind of a skill library. Instead of us chasing jobs employers would approach us instead. Please anybody tell me this is not stupid.
I can't even get on the job boards because everything requires more qualifications than what I have. I have a BA in International Studies (different from International Relations) and experience teaching in China for 3 years (managing class, creating curriculum from scratch, etc). Before China, I did the usual Walmart, grocery store, and local pizza delivery for years. Every time I check job boards, they want someone with Sales exp, Management degree, 2 years industrial exp, etc. I can't even get a management role because they require actual "management" exp not managing a classroom. Usually for management roles you need x years in whatever industry. I went to a local job recruitment agency and told them I'd like an office job and ready to learn whatever is necessary. She never called me back for a job. What sucks about my situation is I understand the best solution for me would be to start my own small business. Great! I don't have money nor do I have any niche skills. I don't see anyone biting at the bit to travel China and learn about the history/culture.
That's really interesting that you spent 3 years in China. What an experience that must have been. Sorry to hear about your struggles. That's one of the reasons I started this RUclips channel, you make money without having to spend money on the normal business startup expenses. Thank you for the comment.
Since you spent 3yrs in China, maybe you can start an online private business tutoring kids (teach English) or if you know a certain area in China, maybe try offering travel planning services or on-site guide service???
I'm retired, bailed out at 54, went back in at 58 for a couple of years only to be reminded about how bad everything continues to get and bailed for good. Metrics, my least favorite word in the business world. Managed 14 women at my last job, from 22 to 71. I could spend hours talking about that nightmare. All the crap you now have to go through. I feel sorry for all of you younger people. It is hell out there and going to do nothing but get worse as you compete against the dreaded AI world. I had planned very early on bailing out early, kept my spending in check and invested in the market. Did and are still doing very well. I spend about one hour every morning reviewing what's transpiring with the 186 stocks I own that are kicking off 12% in dividend income which is how I live. Don't have magic words for you but I do feel empathy for you and the many who are in your position.
Not that I'm happy hearing everyone's struggles, but it's nice to know that there are other people struggling in this market. Went from making 6 figures to doing warehouse work. I considered other avenues, but it sends that almost any avenue for coding are a bit saturated. Trying to get creative and research other business ideas, but its very difficult out there. I've also emailed politicians and have been discouraged by their lack of concern. I hardly think this is a good economy. Is there something im missing regarding the economic situation? Everyone these days can code, if you can do Advanced c++ with high proficiency you will likely be able to find something but getting to that skill level won't be easy, Advanced c++ versus just knowing the language is completely different. If you're doing high level langs such as Python it will be extremely hard to find jobs since every noob these days knows those languages
Yea, I am happy to share my story so that other's know they are not alone. It stinks that the media tells us everything is going great, when that is not the case. Thanks for sharing.
I understand and feel your pain. The solution is to spend more time on building yourself. Start a project, this RUclips channel is a great start. I wrote a book and created AI, got back into yu-gi-oh and recalibrated my priorities. I matter, so I’ll spend my time building me, not a soulless, Bodiless corporation. It gets hard, but focus on you and don’t let this system squeeze you into madness. Good Luck!

Another issue I’m seeing is that the people who are doing the first screen are very unprofessional I bet their companies are losing good candidates because of them
You're right. Sometimes they even outsource the first screen and that person knows nothing about the company or role. I have heard "you'll have to ask the hiring manager that" to some basic questions.
It's bizarre. I moved to a developed country in S.America which is a big software exporter, and I see tech bros doing pretty well for themselves. Lots of Indians moving here too. All those tech companies in the US are moving, or have moved abroad or are only hiring overseas. Google is opening up a sweat sh... I mean a tech super warehouse here. Now, they're paying better salaries compared to the local economy, so in a way it's a good deal for the locals. Cost of renting is cheaper compared to America. If Americans wants to find a job in tech, maybe they should look abroad now.
Since you have credentials in business, try High End Sales. Sales is always hiring, but the downsides are that it’s mostly commission base and they have you working close to 40 to 60hrs. Also, have you thought off leaving off your MBA off your Resume, when applying for lower positions. A lot of companies see a Masters and think you’re overqualified and don’t hire you.
Yes, he would be very good at sales I think, low key and personable. Although maybe things like software sales are oversaturated now due to all the people laid off and wouldn't be suprised if some firms might scam you. Pretty sad.
Thanks for the suggestions! I will definitely consider sales going forward. May be a good idea to leave off the MBA from the resume, don't want to worsen my chances.

Recruiters staffing companies and employment websites are all exploitative, the whole recruiting system is a dehumanizing dystopian assembly line. It doesn't seem as bad until you realize you have applied to 500 or more companies without receiving an interview. This has to be regulated, openings should be exclusive to a specific website, show how many applicants have been received CV's manually reviewed, hiring should be announced with basic details and employed workers shouldn't be able to apply unless they quit.
I stopped applying a little under a year ago. It’s going to be like this for a while. I can’t stress myself out looking for something that isn’t readily available right now.
Sorry to hear you are going through that. Thank you for sharing. It's a lot of street to apply all day and get nowhere. Maybe things will pick up a little after the holidays. Good luck out there!
@ thanks for the kind words. I’m honestly not stressing it anymore. I drove myself to a mental/cognitive breakdown looking for employment. I refuse to do that to myself again.
I just got out of my 3rd interview today i think it went well but these ppl make u jump through hoops in order to get a basic assembly job its crazy i dont understand?
@designhub360customapparel Working and then a period out of work to self reflect. I needed to go backwards and have a clear mind with no distractions to go forwards.
I’m currently employed and have a steady job history. Recruiters would always contact me before but now as I want to jump ship for better pay I’m having a difficult time even getting an interview.
If you are around 40 years of age, you may have to consider a career change. I know, that would absolutely suck, but you can't remain unemployed indefinitely. I almost made that decision. I think I'm done with IT for good if things don't work out at where I'm at now. I'm just so tired of the shenanigans. 🤓
Stand out. Go to the offices and hand in your CV in person and strike up a conversation. Extreme circumstances require extreme measures. I'm sure someone's already done this! Worth a shot if you can travel.
Terrible advice.. At least if the employer is a corporation. We have our own security staff. They won't let you on site unless you have a formal invitation. If you start stalking people in front of the office building they'll call the police on you. So just don't do it. It won't do you well.
Hardware/software and helpdesk support technician. We're talking 20+ years experience. I was let go in June of 2024 and haven't been able to find a job since, at least nothing worth a damn. I did find a job at a computer repair sweat shop(I should have checked Glassdoor first) and I lasted 2 days and 1 hour. Other than that, nothing. Even when I was employed earlier this year, I was only making $45,000. And for what they were asking me to do, I should have been paid double that. I've applied to thousands of jobs in the past few months and only had 3 interviews. There are NO jobs right now! I'm currently trying to find a job as a security monitor to hopefully get a clearance but I've been waiting for that for 6 weeks now and told the company has frozen all hiring for the moment. You're far from the only one. The Biden administration has been lying for the last few years, there is NOTHING!
SOC Analyst jobs will have huge number of applicants and many will have 100% security background and experience in real hacking. It won't be easy to get in there, even skilled hackers can't get hired for those roles.
I quit in March not knowing how bad the market is. I’m also in tech with lots of experience and never had problems getting a job before. I ran into the same obstacles for 3 months. Then I begged my boss for my old job back. Luckily that worked out. It was so stressful to be out of work. The only good thing that came out of that was that I was so stressed that I couldn’t eat and lost 15 pounds. Over time though I think I would have gotten an ulcer or some illness. Good luck with your search.
These days it's not enough to just fill out the application. There are too many people. To stand out It takes networking and nontraditional approaches like contacting the company, and information interviewing with the person who has the power to hire you.
First person on here, that's not complaining that actually understands what's going on. You got to find ways to stand out the upping either half transportation, 2 year jobs, great internships or have a network that's behind you, you have to have something that makes you stand out in this world, it's like buying a car. On a dealership lot, there's just thousands and thousands of cars for someone to choose from...
You're right. It's not what you know, it's who you know. So the only way to really get in front of a hiring manager is to have a friend or newly networked acquaintance put your resume on their desk.
SOFTWARE ENGINEER JOBS are going the way of the Buffalo. Very few left. You need to switch to hands on I.T. support like I did 25 years ago. I knew this was coming, even back then. I'm making $170k and that's enough for me.
It took me 9 months and aprox. 200 job applications back in 2017 before I found a job that I'm currently still working at. I can't imagine how brutal it is to find work now.
This job market is bad, but the statistician's graphs say uNempL0yment is 4% but the data is false, the bls report overstated jobs by 800k a few months ago. They are still off, ghost jobs, cut hours, temp workers, people who have stopped looking after underemployed/unemployed. It's 2008. I went from great jobs, to window washer, at home care with people with disabilities on 3rd shift. AND even those jobs started to cut people. It was the worst 2 years of my life. I feel like that will be the end of this job market at Dec 2025. My only advice is do what ever is needed to make it, while building a new side gig/gigs. Couch surf , give blood, collect cans, volunteer, but build the side gig.
I saw 2% unemployment recently. But whatever... you are right, they're not counting long-term unemployed, underemployed, all that. For those who had been in software development, web design, enterprise IT, anything computer sciencey, it's 100% when you're the one unemployed!
I was a AWS frontend developer and I've been to.find a job in my field and it is like impossible, ghost jobs, they dont know what they want when hiring, thousands of applicants. I think tech professions are getting over. AI, post covid era, terrible government decisions. So, it is terrible experience
The US job market in 2025 will not look very different than 2024. It MAY improve around Q3 or Q4 but due to so much restructuring and uncertainty that employers are going through, it will cause a lag until the market opens up again. The Job Boards and online jobs are not your friends or go-to sources but there will be a lot of hidden jobs so the best way to job hunt is to be proactive and job shop to get your foot in the door like I did with my current employer. You're really going to have to make an impression with these people upstairs directly instead of waiting for a response. Luckily. there will always be a lot of contract employment by staffing agencies as a precursor to full-time employment so look out for that as a good sign. Good Luck

We've heard all the antidotes about the economy and the market conditions. But between these ears, it was just happening to me. I was the one going through late round interviews and not getting the jobs. I was the one that had to wrestle myself from the disappointments and start over. Again and again.

Gotta be applying at the companies official sites, not the jobs platform, only use the Jobs Platform as a discovery for the jobs.

I swear it’s infuriating how they play on our faces smh

Go into Healthcare like occupational therapy, speech pathologist, nursing, or Health informatics(I.T for health field). Another route is joining a union trade such as HVAC, plumbing, electrician.
I wouldn't mind being an electrician. I like airplanes and boats. I imagine there's good work in the overlap. Probably all over the country - no "Silicon Valley" sort of thing. No hordes of young people in eastern Europe or India working remote to compete with. Just need official training, maybe some sort of certificate or license, and land a job.
Healthcare equals job security…. Worked at a hospital 25 years
Yeah, but it takes time and $$$ to get credentials in healthcare fields. You need to eat while going to school and taking on student loans.
It is too late for older folks to embark on 5 years + indentured servitude route to get proper credentials in trades

In Toronto React Developers which prior to 2020 were making 110K-155K are now being hired at 60K-70K because of such an influx of engineers into the market.
I think it’s due to layoffs. If you know how to do react maybe try teaching people then you can make money
Mostly immigrants
influx and also outsourcing from what I've witnessed first hand.
Oh wow. That's quite a drop. Thank you for sharing.

Great insights. Thank you for the comment.
Kinda wish the code schools that STILL advertise a high demand would bare SOME responsibility. Likely won't happen, but one can wish.
Thanks for the tips!

All Good.

OK I have a crazy idea here... I'm in a similar position but in Australia and I've been thinkin - the present situation of business whining about staff shortages simultaneously with unemployment screams an obvious case of market failure. This is also a huge opportunity for anyone who can solve the problem.

Get your CDL? lots of companies will pay for your training if you sign a work contract. I'm just not sure if winter is the best time to train.
Famous filmmaker James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar, etc) raised money to put himself in film school by driving a truck. If he can do it, anyone can do it!
Of course he was a nobody before film school. I doubt he'd get far today applying for a truck driver job.
@DrunkenUFOPilot literally every comment you've left is condescending towards blue collar people.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Nope im a truck driver and i wish i had a desk job
@@realrareap2420 start your own dispatching business. as a truck driver you're already in a better position than most office workers who are getting laid off right now. leverage that into your own business where you're behind the desk and have others driving for you.
I am sorry, brother. I truly am.
Thank you for posting this.
I am looking for work myself. It is brutal.
Sorry to hear that. Thanks for sharing. Good luck out there.
thats wild. I got a stem degree(very theoretical), no internships. still found a job. Life is just a dice roll
Congrats! Thanks for the comment.
In 1995 i was in the US and had an option to stay in the us. Instead i decided to return to the philippines. Best decision of my life. I have a great career stable income decent life homeowner, several cars, my kid finished college. And now im about retire and in great shape. I thank my lucky stars that i made the right choice
The Philippines is beautiful. And much lower cost of living than the USA. Good decision. Thanks for sharing.
Most companies now outsource work for much cheaper. But they forgot, if local people don't earn, how the economy will run
The economy can't hold up too much longer if no one can get good paying jobs, right?
You have to move to India if you want a tech job

Same here. Youre not alone.
Thanks for the confirmation. Good luck out there!
Ive been searching for years. Still nothing. But my boyfriend applied to a hundres jobs, got about twenty interviews, and 2 places accepted him. Its been brutal.
Sorry to hear you are going through that. Thank you for sharing. At least one of you has work, but you're right, it is brutal right now. Good luck out there!
Great points. I agree with you. Thank you for the comment.
They certainly do make you jump through hoops~ How did the 3rd interview go?
@LaborGains it went well they said they would reach out to me sometime this week but nothing so far??

I hear you. I've been self employed for nearly 12 years now. And never applied for a job for over 20 years.
What were you doing the other eight years?
@designhub360customapparel Working and then a period out of work to self reflect. I needed to go backwards and have a clear mind with no distractions to go forwards.
@ oh ok
That's amazing! Thanks for sharing
Theres alot of scam jobs out here
You're right. Thanks for the comment.
I’m currently employed and have a steady job history. Recruiters would always contact me before but now as I want to jump ship for better pay I’m having a difficult time even getting an interview.
Oh wow. Sorry to hear that. Thanks for sharing. Timing is everything.
You're right. It is certainly time to figure out how to switch industries. I don't blame you for being tired of it.
Stand out. Go to the offices and hand in your CV in person and strike up a conversation. Extreme circumstances require extreme measures.
I'm sure someone's already done this! Worth a shot if you can travel.
lol
Terrible advice.. At least if the employer is a corporation. We have our own security staff. They won't let you on site unless you have a formal invitation. If you start stalking people in front of the office building they'll call the police on you. So just don't do it. It won't do you well.
Thanks for the comment.
Sorry to hear you have gone through that. Thank you for sharing. Good luck out there!
Wow, I hear you, that's a tough position to be in. Thank you!
If you can afford to wait until next year why not take a low wage job in the meantime. Some money coming in is better than nothing.
That's true. Thank you for the comment.
These days it's not enough to just fill out the application. There are too many people. To stand out It takes networking and nontraditional approaches like contacting the company, and information interviewing with the person who has the power to hire you.
🎉🎉🎉🎉
Wow
lol that is a lot- as if u can make a million in normal times.
How did you switch to IT supporter?
The American Dream is dead.
You're right.
I'm fed up with applying for jobs on indeed and answering those most likely agree/disagree questions!
Nowadays,I never answer those questions.
I forgot about the agree/disagree. There is also the ones where you have to pick the words that describe you from a list. Thank you for the comment.
It took me 9 months and aprox. 200 job applications back in 2017 before I found a job that I'm currently still working at. I can't imagine how brutal it is to find work now.
It's pretty bad. Definitely stay put if you can. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry to hear you went through that. Thank you for sharing. You're right. This is an awful job market. Good luck out there.
I was a AWS frontend developer and I've been to.find a job in my field and it is like impossible, ghost jobs, they dont know what they want when hiring, thousands of applicants. I think tech professions are getting over. AI, post covid era, terrible government decisions. So, it is terrible experience
Thanks for sharing your experience! Things really are impossible now.
Good Luck
Thank you for the suggestions. I appreciate it.
Hang in there and gl on your job search. Can never be loyal to these companies we need treat them as just a source of income.
Oh wow! Thank you so much!
