Thank you so much for watching my layoff story-it’s been quite the journey after 23 years! I'd love to hear where you're tuning in from, so we can share a little piece of our worlds. Let’s keep this conversation going!
Not judging, but why wouldnt you have saved any money whilst you had steady employment for 23 years - did they not have a 401k plan? As well, you have a lot of experience, would you not benefit from having a Head Hunter assist you in locating employment, or at the very least have a conversation re your resume - it may be something as small as how it is being presented. Best of luck to you - i'm sure you will be successful in locating employment . P.S. The moment you get new employment, please start saving a minimum 20% - you owe it to yourself!
@@quaithom3138 I thought the same, 23 years full time, no savings! I hope she takes your advice of saving 20%, or even 25% or 30% to get the retirement going. good luck to her..
My heart goes out to you. I'm not sure how I ran into your video, but even tho I'm not an IT person I can relate to how you feel. I'm 58 years old and work for 18 years as a hairstylist. Due to car accidents shoulder injury and other things, I can no longer do hair. I understand not being able to find a job. I really feel like they're just throwing people in their 50s away. I ended up on the streets for 6 months. I'm going back to school to become a teacher but without a job I don't have enough money to live off of. I was able to rent an extended stay for a couple months and now I'm facing homelessness once again. This world has just changed so much it's such a scary place now. I hope you're able to find a job and keep your home. ❤
I am so sorry that you are going through this. I've been through some pretty bad things in my life too and it left it's mark. I came very close to homelessness. People don't understand unless they've "been there". Some of the people in these threads have so much more self confidence and assuredness than I ever had. I admire that. Corporations are heartless entity's . I don't know how some of those people can sleep at night or look in the mirror. Can you get grants to live on while going to school so that you can live. Or work on campus? It is appalling that homelessness is becoming "normalized" too.
Kristol, greetings from New Mexico. After retirement I felt the same loss regarding my sense of self. My work defined a great deal of who I envisioned myself to be. Your honesty and courage in sharing this is admirable. Keep sharing from your heart and you’ll rise again. You are a natural for a channel that helps others. You are not alone!
I'm 55yrs old $24,000 weekly and I'm retired, this video have inspired me greatly in many ways that I remember my past of how I struggled with many things in life to be where I'm today!!
There is no loyalty anymore. Probably not being in Germany made you an easier target. This is a sign of the times and is happening to many people. I have also seen a push to get rid of people who are older. It is very traumatizing. Also, I am hearing from many people that when they apply for jobs they never hear anything back from Human Resources Departments even if they get interviews. This is something that takes a long time to recover from. It is a grieving process.
I lost my job a few weeks ago, and just turned 60. I was depressed for a few weeks and took the time to get better emotionally, because from experience, it's hard getting a job when you are certain age💔. You are not alone, stay positive and keep the faith that better days are ahead.
I was in IT for 25 years. I left when they outsourceed all our jobs to India. I have been a nurse for 15 years and have been much happier. Hope all goes well for you. Hang in there. You will find something.
Same thing happened to me in March 2023. I’m 62 and had planned to work for a few more years. 28 years with the company. 40 years of IT experience. I applied to over 300 jobs….got two interviews, and no job. By 2024 I decided to officially retire. Don’t believe for a moment that the job market is good. I hope you find something in your field and get back on your feet.
I'm 56 and our company just laid off hundreds of people. Some with 20 -24 years employment. No cause, just because it had to happen. It's scary how little someone means to an employer. Even after decades. Corporations want loyalty, but show none in return. Be loyal to no company. go to work. Do your job and go home. Take every minute of vacation you are given. Take every sick day every year. In the end skipping vacations and not staying home on sick days means NOTHING when they want to cut you out.
People seriously have to understand that with our country putting tariffs in place inflation is going to skyrocket and we all need to reduce our spending by. 50%.... I think people might believe me to be too frugal. Everyone from age 40 and down needs to save money like their life depends on it, because it does.
It's getting increasingly harder to live in this country. The last few years have been a nightmare. And going forward is not looking good. AT ALL. It didn't use to be this way. I grew up in the 60's and 70's. ANY job could support you. ANY job could pay rent. NOTHING is normal anymore. We've been spiraling down for a long time now. I'm thankful I'm retired and I hope for the absolute best for all of you.
The same thing happened to me in June 2023. Sixteen years at UT Austin and let go, along with 10 others also near retirement age. Ageism is a thing. You have my sympathy and I know what you’re going through.
I agree and it's not right, but yup, hit our 50's, with lots of years, gone, they save on benefits and vacation plans by getting rid of those folks who have been there the longest and have the best plans.
I'm self-employed, 47 and newly retired!!! It's so good to not have to work anymore. Friends and loved ones deserve your loyalty; not a company. We are tools in a machine for them. I understood that very young and a job was only ever a way to get money. Now my money is working for me and I am free! Hope you find your happy ending through this 💜
Sorry for you. It’s traumatic to lose a job but it’s more than that for you. You have lost yourself too. You’re now on a new journey to reconnect with yourself. List your interests and what makes you happiest. Also recognize that it wasn’t just the work and sense is accomplishment that made you happy but the socialization. The work doesn’t define you. I also love your honesty and sensitivity. That’s a wonderful trait to have. It’s courageous to be vulnerable. That authenticity is appreciated in job interviews.
66 now. I was lucky to have worked with companies with generous retirement plans. In almost 20 years I was laid off from 3 different companies. Was able to take my plan with me. Five years ago at 60 I saw the writing on the wall. I quit before they were going to let me go with out a severance. I'm fully retired and I'm so glad i didn't dip into any of my 401ks when it got tough financially like some of my co-workers did. I guess I'm saying always count on hard times. You never know when things will get tough. I always planned for the worse.
German here. I used to live in the US and I did not like to work there. That was ages ago. I thought it was very depressing how employers treat their employees. I used to have an American friend who also got fired right before retirement so they would not have to pay her the retirement money she earned. You live in a country where people are treated like numbers and profit comes first. In Germany not everything is great but we have extensive workers rights and if you're being laid off or fired after so many years with a company you would get a 50% of one months salary × the years you worked there. Besides that it is very very difficult to fire someone without cause anyway, people at a certain age have additional protection. And usually if people are been laid off they get a good severance pay. At Bayer in Berlin for example my friend is being let go at the age of sixty but with a hupe severance pay that she can stay home until she officially retires. And she wasn't really let go, they asked who wants to take the deal and she did of course otherwise she could still work there. Also in Germany health insurance is not connected to the employer which also a huge plus. We have four to six weeks paid vacation and unlimited sick days also. We work to life and not live to work and overtime ist also strictly regulated. Even though salaries are lower the quality of life and food and therefore health is much better. Move to Europe and find an online job here. You need less money because you do not have to save up for health issues. In several EU countries health insurance is free and cost of living is much cheaper.
Hello to Germany. I totally get why you woulnd't like working here. Your country sounds much more humane. There's a REASON half the population is on meds just to cope.
I’m sorry this happened to you. I got laid off in 2019 as part of RIF, me and 90% of my colleagues. They outsourced our jobs. I was 39 so not in as tough a spot as you were, I found a new job 2 months later. It really sucks ageism is so rampant in the US.
Any time a person is laid off it is very shocking. It will take as long as it takes to feel better. You will figure everything out as you go alone. Its great that you are a smart capable woman. So, for the time being if you need to make money just take what is available for now, that helps with your mental health. Continue to send out resumes but be realistic, you may not find something comparable to what you had and remember that thats ok too. Perhaps this lay off was your sign to do something a bit different. It may be time to explore other areas of interest, be ok with mixing things up a bit. Take care of yourself, go for a walk, resolve to eat healthy, try new things. Good luck and stay open.
Thanks for sharing your story. I am working in IT too, 25 years now. And I know it's just a matter of time for me to get laid off as our American company is constantly doing reorg and in the process, let people go.😢 I'm originally from the Philippines but I've been in the UK for 20 years now. All the best to you.❤
Hi Kristol, mass sympathy to you and best wishes in your searches. Something similar happened to me in the past, and I had to change the way that my resume was perceived so that I could land a technical role. It might be extraordinarily difficult for you to land a role in the same capacity that you have had in the past, so you might do some soul searching and come to terms with that. In my circumstance, and after being unemployed for several months, I had to change my resume so that I looked more like a technician instead of an engineer so that I could land a technician role with the hopes of working back up to an engineering role. I retained my associates degree on my applications, and removed my bachelor’s degree as well as my master’s degree. I had to reword things as well so that I didn't look so stellar. Eventually, I did land a role and updated my background in the company databases so that I can regrow into R&D engineering roles. Whether this example helps you or not, I do wish you well and the absolute very best in your new life. Sincerely, Ken
American living in Germany here. I am sorry this happened to you. The German economy is in serious decline, we are in our second official consecutive recession. It's happening to Germans too but it first happened to you :(
I worked for the same company for 38 years, retired at age 60. So sorry for your experience. Even though it's not personal, it has to feel very personal. I know your skills will carry you through. But it is obviously painful for you. Thoughts and prayers.
I know it hurts, but please don't take it personal. I was laid off 3 times. The first one was after 23 years also. I planned to retire from this job. What it comes down to is $$$. I learned that when most companies lay off good employees, the decision is likely based on the bottom line, and I was making the big bucks. Don't worry, it might take a while, for me it was 5 years after the last time. It was during the great recession. I did manage to find temp work and that's how I eventually got the full time job I retired from. So, I know the tears and feelings of hopelessness because of age, but there's always something good around the corner.
@@Joyceee54 Being able to go for 5 yrs without becoming homeless - you must have had a LOT of $$ stashed or there were two incomes. Not everyone is that fortunate. AT ALL.
@@TLA123y6f My husband 's social security, some temporary work, some unemployment benefits, some credit, some savings, shopping at The Dollar Tree and Big Lots, and LOTS of sacrifices. We both grew up poor, so we knew how to stretch money.
I’m really sorry this has happened to you , our whole social structure is upside down .. when you work with people that live in there cars and being homeless is becoming criminalized and wages can’t provide shelter you start realizing something is very wrong …
It's shocking where we've gone. It didn't use to be this way. Capitalism is a very cruel system. And it's going to get worse. And everything is connected to everything else.
I like your editing (and channel name). I hope you continue in the fashion design path! There's no age limit for that! Would be cool to see your designs 💜
I was 51 when I retired early due to stress. I choose to retire early than die early. Now, I have rental property, small lots for sale and a small fishing boat. I also serve my community. I am 58 now, living with my partner who has a daughter, much happier and with no regrets. I should have done sooner. Goodluck to you in the next chapter of your life. May you find peace and contentment.
Glad you got hired again! I had been working in group health insurance for 35 years and was let go of my last job in October 2021 at age 63. After some soul-searching, I picked up a couple opportunities, one with a large insurance company to sign up retirees, which is something I had done many years prior, and secondly, I started working as an actor and model. After a few months, it was crystal clear (LOL) which was more fulfilling and NOT financially. Coming up on three years now, I am on Social Security, retired from corporate work and pursuing my acting career.
@@jovictor3007 You gotta build up that FU money. When I got laid off two years ago, I had a slight grin during the zoom call with the senior manager laying me off. He thought that was odd and asked me if I was ok. I said I was great, thanked him for the time I got to work with the company but that I was perfectly fine moving on.
I had a good Government job from 1985 to 2008 which is 23 years of career at age 49. I ONLY, 4 years to retirement and our facility closed. 700 people lost their pension. I have bipolar and I was too sick to find a job and I was turned down for disability. Thank god my wife went full time Government after 12 years of part time and we bought 12.6 of service and we retired in 2020.We are doing great now but it was years of doubt.
I don't understand how a person loses their pension. Didn't you get 23 years of a pension even though you didn't make it the last 4 yrs? Did you lose all of it?
That sucks. I was let go from my Teaching job in person and my evil Principal enjoyed it - you should have seen his face. At least they weren't mean about it Im very sorry. I was let go in 2018 and struggling ever since
Age discrimination is common. I am always amazed that those doing the layoffs don't realize that they will get older too. I am lucky to have a union job with protections. Corporate work is so stressful
Many years ago I got laid off from a company in the Detroit area that made seatbelts because they could be made cheaper in Mexico. I did a job offer from Ford but like the rest of the auto industry layoffs were common, the hours long and pay raises minuscule. I took a chance and moved into my brothers basement rent free while I started a tiny house flipping business. Today I build multimillion dollar house ls for rich people and have finally become wealthy myself-it only took 40 years 😂
I completely get where you're coming from. I spent 9 months looking for a new job after being laid off, and it was gut-wrenching to say the least. If you haven’t already, I really recommend networking. Seriously-reach out to anyone you’ve worked with in the past. That’s how I finally landed my new role. Employers seem to be super choosy right now, and having someone on the inside can really help get your foot in the door. Feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn, and I’d be happy to share your info. If you’re comfortable, you could also post what area you're looking in here-maybe others reading the comments could reach out as well. You never know who might be able to help!
You were fortunate to work with one company for 23 years, if you invested correctly you should be set. I was a project manager for 16 years, got laid off and after a while I went to work at Home Depot for the health insurance. it was a terrible job but I needed health care
Just because you obviously made enough $$ to be investing does NOT mean everybody else does too. For a lot of people it's paycheck to paycheck just to survive. And the next few years will be worse.
Like He said it had nothing to do with your performance. It was just a business decision. The good thing is you should get some kind of pension/retirement from the company if you were a permanent person since you were with them for so long. Also I hope you let them know that you could provide consulting services in the future should they need it as a Consultant. That is what I did. I was a contractor for most of my career as an OpenVMS Consultant. 2008 was my last year as an OpenVMS Consultant. Then after that provided Mac and windows OS and application support as a IT Computer Consultant. I wish you well on your journey of reinventing yourself.
You could also get a CTE credential and teach. In my district we have occupational centers and they hire teachers in certain fields like IT, nursing, graphic design and they can get their CTE credential while they teach
Aweee things are gonna turn around. I hope one day you can look back on this and see this as possibly the greatest thing that ever happenedfor you. I know it's hard to hear that in the moment but keep your head up. Things will get better.
The constant random video cuts make it hard to follow what you are saying. Just turn the camera on. Leave it on. Tell your story. ❤ I watched the first couple of minutes and I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. This is why I left corporate in my thirties and became a teacher. Corporate is very volatile when you hit your late forties into your 50s. A lot of young people today flashing their money around will come to realize that. I hope things will get better. I'll be praying for you.
Do you think companies don’t want to hire older workers? I am in IT and 5 years from retirement. I think I need to be somewhat prepared to be laid off prior to retirement.

It sounds like you need money. It starts there. You have to do something, perhaps freelance work, to bring in money. You work from home, and have already worked remotely with Germans, so the world is your marketplace. Instead of a sad video, how about a positive, optimistic video of what you can do for a client. Ageism is a reality but it's easier for a 30-something to hire you as a freelance consultant than to have you as a direct report who might take her job. Is there a product or service you can offer? Write it up. Tell us about it. Market yourself and the rest will follow. Focus on your strengths. You say you are fantastic. What are you fantastic at. Make that your centerpiece and help others to be as fantastic as you are. Videos like that will get you everything you want. PS forget the world of fashion. You don't live in NYC or Paris. Fashion doesn't originate in Northhampton but brainy people are educated there. Be one of the brainy people.
Sorry for what happened to you. I think it’s our own faults for most of us thinking that we would be forever glued to the same jobs till retirement. Lets hope the young generations are taking notes that’s not the case. Figure something else before you get the pink slips.
That's how it used to be. The people were loyal to the company and the company treated their employees well. The norm was so stay with the company for long periods of time maybe your entire career. They didn't have to continutally job-hop to survive. The quality of life has spiraled down in multiple ways. I don't agree that "its our own faults" but the system sucks and one is forced to think/live that way. It's Corporate greed. And corporate mentality. Greed is NOT good.
I got laid off from my job at 51, after 15 years and 7 promotions. I did everything possible to find a new job - hundreds of applications, networking, skills development. I had several interviews and made the short list a few times, only to see the offer go to a younger candidate. After 2 years, I gave up, sold everything to travel the world, went to culinary school and worked in the food industry for a few years. When my café closed during the pandemic, I started reselling clothes, accessories and home décor online so I could pay my bills. 4 years later, I have a successful business, set my own schedule and have total control. I’ll never go back to working for someone else. Losing my job was the best thing that ever happened to me!
Might just be doing the same thing….laid-off at 55. 😮Luckily I was starting a small business which has gone well so far. Praying it all gets figured out sooner than later.
Same here except that at 51 I retired early due to stress. I said to myself if I will die early due to stress I will choose to retire than die early. I put up rental property, real estate abd fishing about. I am serving the community at the same time. I am much happier, have no regrets and like you have no intention of going back to my former life.
Same! 64 when I was released in Sep 2024. Worked 24 years in IT for a large Pharma company. Honestly, so happy that I no longer work there. It was a fab company bef the new CEO started and several mergers, this great company became very toxic and nasty. I will admit though, as happy as I am, I too feel lost. Retired n looking forward to this phase of my life. Good luck and thanks for sharing!
I was laid off once. I made the best of it and decided to help animals. I rescued two kittens and they were the love of my life. So glad i was laid off RIP chunky monkey
Unless it is a job sector desperate for workers, it remains true… not what you know but who you know. At my work, literally every job opening was given to someone who knew someone already working here- without exception. Even though there was 10s of applicants. I got my job cause I knew 2 people here. I know that when there is a job opening, it is “fake” cause the government or business has to open a requisition and go through the process-even when the hiring group is already on aware of who they are hiring. I know a lot of laid of workers have to down grade and change their career field just to bring home a check. There are a ton of low level service jobs but the mid to high tier jobs are lacking. Companies are outsourcing IT departments to India. They can do they job at 1/8th the cost.
When I was laid off it was a very surreal experience. Did you feel in a daze and numb for a while? The way I felt physically really took me by surprise. Nothing made me feel that stunned before. I honestly wouldn’t have thought I would feel that way. I was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and that did not hit me as hard.
Great video. I got laid in the us 4 times. I worked in construction during the thin times. Oddly enough, i made as much as i did wearing a suit. After all of the corporate BS, the endless meetings that solved nothing, and the mandatory training, i just bailed. I now live in thailand, and i will never return to the us. Its all a shit show now there
New subbie! Went through something similar at 60 and said fine Ill retire. Had a small retail job through that Christmas season, remembering how demoralizing those jobs can be....but the discount and Kohls cash made it bearable. Keep posting here and watch it grow, seems to be the new wild west :)
Girl, want some blunt advice? How many gen Xers will be out here looking for info on Agile? Yeah, not many. How many gen X women are overweight and LOVE fashion? Exactly! I'm one of those btw. Channels speaking directly to us about trends and how to wear them. Looks and where to buy them with Amazon links to begin with. Start making money doing something you're passionate about- Fashion and niche it to you and the women who look like you. I haven't subscribed yet because agile etc is not interesting to me, and youngsters don't want to listen to you, believe me.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to respond. I appreciate the open feedback! Both of your comments have me thinking. I totally get what you’re saying about fashion advice-it’s a cool idea, but if I ever go down that road, I’d want to put my own twist on it. At this point it may be the trials and tribulations of trying to understand a design I drew years ago with bad, I mean bad-bad a kindergarten teacher couldn't love drawing. Staying in a job too long, I had never considered that could be a drawback but you might be right-it could’ve played a part in my job search challenges.

@KristolClear just wanted to highlight your response to this comment. Whenever I watch a new RUclipsr I am always interested in how they respond to comments as it gives me an idea of what type of person they are. Your response was kind and not defensive, despite receiving unsolicited advice (which is rampant on YT lol). If I was an employer, you're the type of person who I would enjoy having on my team:)
Ill listen to her. She is giving advice on important experience many people are going through. It helps people in tough positions, see there is hope and that things will likely be okay.
Kudos to your boss for making the call. In one instance of my mulitple firings, my boss was at home, vomiting and hung over. I was told the lie that he was at another site, presumably doing something so important he could not be there for my career-ending termination meeting. (It's nothing personal, it's strictly business).
Don't overlook county, state and Federal government agencies, and/or contractor firms that place people to work for government agencies. Check USA jobs. You are less likely to run into ageism. All government agencies need IT people
Thanks for your comment. I am currently 56 years old and recent got my A+ and Security+ certification. What are your thoughts of being hired in a government job at 56 years old? Do you think my age will hinder my chances of being hired at a government job?
Yeah, staying in the same company for more than four years is a bad move. Employers think you're set in your ways and don't know how to take risks and get out of your comfort zone.
Which makes no sense because if you leave, they have to hire somebody else and start over and train them. The whole concept of it all is just ridiculous. Basically, as you get older and more experience to become too expensive and they want to hire cheaper people so they get rid of you and that’s what they do. very few people in the world are getting rich and the rest of people are getting poor. Eventually, somethings Gotta give.
What utter bs this comment is staying in the same job for more than 4 years does not mean you are risk averse. You sound like a child or gen z with no work experience. The real reason is committed staff who stay become expensive.
@@firefeethok_tui2355exactly. They also see older workers as costing them more for health care premiums. Basically, we're just slaves with no human value.
@projectqueenbee5529 You are living in an odd world. Strange ideology to me. Self-employed 40 years, which means 40 years experience that others don't have.
@@ranchoboomerang Not my ideology, the market (HR) believes this and you see it in people struggling to get jobs after a long time in the same place/role.
I’m in a slightly different position. I resigned due to illness at the age of 50 three years ago. I was fortunate that I had income protection insurance so I was still getting my salary while recovering. I went back into full time work this year through taking a 12 month position. Being in something made the jump to finding a permanent position much easier. Good luck.
You have to tone down your resume. Seems you have a lot of experience which means big bucks and companies don't want to pay your value which sucks. I pray you get something soon. If you can get 2 WFH jobs even its low pay but it will help financially
So sorry it's such a shock and many times it's unexpected. I was laid off from my last job of 19 years at 61 years old. I thought I would never get hired for full time employment due to my age. Are companies required to pay severance in the US? I am in British Columbia, Canada, in a town about an hour outside Vancouver. In BC, the minimum severance for your length of service is 8 weeks. However, the courts have seen it differently. Taking into consideration your length of service and age, 24 months severance is now the norm. Also includes extension of your benefits. Hope you got some severance.
It seems its white collar layoff season this time around, its not easy, hang in there, btw you could try a hand in the paralegal/legal assistant role, there are many choices as far as type of law to support.
Im sorry another company chose to do to you, the latest trendy thing companies do, when they start to get irrelevant, to appear more relavant. These companies and the owners and managers, are responding to their own personal issues and wielding their weak power, ineffectively as a blaming tool.
So sad for you. Take care. Look a t cover letter make sure you list your experience there as m asny Hr never look at resume. You will be ok. ❤ australia

I hate when people use the word laid off. Laid off is when you will be going back like people in construction. Your position was eliminated, you're not going back. I have been handed "the box" 5 times and my position was eliminated. It's awful! Each time I had no idea it was going to happen. One job I was there for 15 years. I know how it feels, it is awful!
Respectfully..."laid off" or a "layoff" is commonly defined as "...Getting laid off is different, and means that the company eliminated your position for strategic or financial reasons and not through any fault of yours." So it does mean that the position has been eliminated.
@mkissin493 Ok, I could see that point. My ex husband worked construction and was laid off every winter and went back so I always considered it temporary. I see the Internet also says - "The term layoff is often mistakenly used when an employer terminates employment with no intention of rehire, which is actually a reduction in force".

Hello 👋
How're you earning such weekly? sometimes I feel down on myself because of low finances, but I still believe in God
Thanks to Mrs. Elizabeth Regina Nelsen's time in my life, which had a profound impact on me.
Sounds familiar. I have heard her name on several occasions and read about her success stories in wall street journal!
Who's Elizabeth Regina Nelsen!?looking forward to this opportunity Can I also sign up from Ontario Canada?
She is really a good investment advisor. I was privilege to attend some of her seminars. That's how I started my own crypto investment.
My thoughts are with you and anyone else who is going through a hard time. I have had to tell myself many times 'This ,too, shall pass'
I was in IT for 25 years. I left when they outsourceed all our jobs to India. I have been a nurse for 15 years and have been much happier. Hope all goes well for you. Hang in there. You will find something.
You have a backbone of steel. Thank-you for sharing your story
Thank you for being brave, vulnerable and sharing your story. You are not alone. Sending encouragement you will get through this valley. God bless.
So very true!
That is why it is important to save as much money as possible so if it happens you will be ok temporarily. Yep they hae no right to expect loyalty.
@@TLA123y6f the top guns have all the money and sadly they are the ones getting a tax break...
Hope you find your happy ending through this 💜
Be strong........I am same position as you.......still looking for a job after so many months. Hang on there❤
Sorry for you. That authenticity is appreciated in job interviews.
thanks for sharing your story. i've been laid of twice this year and kinda giving up on the job search for now.
Your voice is so calming and it looks like you found another job! Congrats and hope you are healthy and happy.
I love this video and thank you so much for sharing your story.
Yes - like your thinking! Great time to change things up!! May be in the future, you will be glad! You are doing right things to find your new path!
Thanks for sharing your story. I am working in IT too, 25 years now. And I know it's just a matter of time for me to get laid off as our American company is constantly doing reorg and in the process, let people go.😢 I'm originally from the Philippines but I've been in the UK for 20 years now. All the best to you.❤
I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this. My cousin was laid off last Nov after close to 30 years.
I hope your Cousin was able to retire with benefits from that company . God Bless always !
These words are so empty because not everybody is designed to run a business or have some of the rebound that you are suggesting.

Watching from Long Beach, CA
Wishing you the very best!
I am really sorry about you losing your job. I think Schools should start very early teaching about saving, retirement as a option for students.
How about the parents teaching that?
Both sources would be ideal. But it's so much more critical now than ever. Personal money management is the most important life skill there is.
That’s life it happens , get your unemployment, foodstamps and Medicaid.. I did God blessed me with a job 1 week before my last unemployment check
23 years, you’re fortunate to have worked for one company. Hopefully you saved enough money.
You would be surprised , most people dont care to save anything, that is why there are regrets and anguish during layoffs.
@@jovictor3007 You gotta build up that FU money. When I got laid off two years ago, I had a slight grin during the zoom call with the senior manager laying me off. I had a good Government job from 1985 to 2008 which is 23 years of career at age 49. I ONLY, 4 years to retirement and our facility closed. 700 people lost their pension.
Today I build multimillion dollar house ls for rich people and have finally become wealthy myself-it only took 40 years 😂
Great comeback!
I am in the same job for 20 years....then...... I loss the job too
I completely get where you're coming from.
Man just leave her alone. You don’t know her circumstances and it’s not about you.
Just because you obviously made enough $$ to be investing does NOT mean everybody else does too. For a lot of people it's paycheck to paycheck just to survive. And the next few years will be worse.
Young folks, make contributing to your 401k a priority. No excuses. This would be a whole different story if she had 1.5m in a 401k.
I'm sorry this happened to you. I know it's difficult, as many years ago I was also laid off. Best of luck.

Hang in there!!! Take care!
A similar thing happened to me. I was laid off in 2023, at 55, after being with the company for 26 years. They have had monthly layoffs since.
No duh everybody knows and it’s not appropriate right now
That's why I tell people to prepare
When I was laid off it was a very surreal experience. Did you feel in a daze and numb for a while? The way I felt physically really took me by surprise. Nothing made me feel that stunned before.

Several interviews and 4 months later, I searched government jobs, and was hired for a position I was grateful to get. Try to stay positive and you will find something else.
Thanks for your comment. I am currently 56 years old and recent got my A+ and Security+ certification. What are your thoughts of being hired in a government job at 56 years old? Do you think my age will hinder my chances of being hired at a government job?
Are companies required to pay severance in the US?
I am in British Columbia, Canada, in a town about an hour outside Vancouver. In BC, the minimum severance for your length of service is 8 weeks. However, the courts have seen it differently. Taking into consideration your length of service and age, 24 months severance is now the norm. Also includes extension of your benefits. Hope you got some severance.
No, it’s not a legal requirement. 😢
US employers do not need a reason to terminate your employment, nor are they required to give you any severance. Nice huh?
It seems its white collar layoff season this time around, its not easy, hang in there, btw you could try a hand in the paralegal/legal assistant role, there are many choices as far as type of law to support.
I went back to school and was educated into another job.
The last time I was laid off was on my birthday morning years ago, I swore then I would never work on my birthday
😮
Good vid. 😢
Im sorry another company chose to do to you, the latest trendy thing companies do, when they start to get irrelevant, to appear more relavant. These companies and the owners and managers, are responding to their own personal issues and wielding their weak power, ineffectively as a blaming tool.
What is moin moin? Im very sorry this happened.
I'm not gonna lie, as you were talking about your credentials, I thought, yeah she's expensive. Maybe look into AI prompt engineering.
May God richly bless you.

If you want job security get a unionized government job. Otherwise, you are at the mercy of the marketplace. Being laid off and fired sucks.
