The only job hopper thing is a meme because most people don't have the ability to jump every 3-6 months. Networking is a meme because when you are employed most people don't network. Most network when they are neeting with nothing to offer. It is like you don't want to hang with homeless. A lot of people don't talk about a lot of corps are zombie corps and the crack is starting to show
My boss posted a job for $75,000 with $5000 sign on bonus plus $5000 moving expenses. He said there were 12,500 online applicants. 🤯
Networking is hugely overrated. Like, what would you even do? Shake hands and talk? With who? Where? When? Like they conveniently have a job waiting for me right now that I'm a good fit for, with suitable pay, etc. I've never landed a job via networking, ever. I've always landed a job via applying online and/or recruiter agencies.
I suuuuuuuck at networking. I've been trying to do it for a few months now and I haven't gotten any better. I think my networking blunders are making me more anxious and nervous. Also, the years of experience is huge. That's all companies care about these days.
Networking is a meme. When you are employed most people don't network. Most network when they are neeting with nothing to offer. It is like you don't want to hang with homeless. I just make friend thru my volunteer group. I made decent amount of friends in the military industrial complex.
I remember when there was a gap in my resume because I was still a college student. After explaining that they acted like I committed a crime or something. So I just put the year, if I worked there from January to August I'm just going to put the whole year.
Is it easier to find a job as an employee or to find a client as a LLC doing the same work?
A mean two faced nurse I use to work out complaining about her college debt, I never talked to her only work related with patients and she tell me off like I knew everything she did I would tell her off saying well I wouldn’t ask you these questions if I didn’t know them already, anyways glad I’m not with her, funny thing we had the same last name, she tell people NO RELATION so bluntly, I giggle cause that irritated her, I had a massive panic attack at work , she was trying to calm me down I was in a different zone, I was taken to the hospital, when I came back she was like whatever, she wanted the government to pay off her debt thinking it’s not fair, I rolled my eyes not in front of her, I’m glad I’m not working with a person like her, and that she’s not alone miserable in her career very two faced, and the end of the day we all are accountable if we owe money great if you pay it and get government assistance, but I don’t have a degree or extra schooling other than a diploma and so many people are upset about having a degree and not getting the pay they think they are worth.
I wonder how much of this has to do with people not wanting to humble themselves and lower their standards. Warehouses and many customer service positions are pandemic and recession proof. Every job won't come with 6 figures and a title - but it will pay the bills till you get the job you want.
I got laid off from a school that was consolidating. They called only the people who were getting fired to a fake district wide all employee lunch only to hand us the pink slip and information on filing unemployment
The phone is the new NORM for corporate SCUMS forget them that happened to me week before Christmas
Dmn shame.
Another common issue is still being scrutinized for job gaps in today’s layoff friendly market. Had an interview the other day where I was asked to explain job gaps even 5 years ago. It’s like cmon man.
No job is guaranteed. Some companies will send you an empty FedEx box with prepaid shipping label so you can ship back your Laptop and ID badge back to corporate office.
Oh my mother was in hospice I was dealing with a lot, they call me into the office and my co-woker I have work with at a few palces and was forced to fire me. I was given 5 mine to wide my company iPad and iPone and get my stuff. This was after working 70 hr weeks for years and being the highest proformer in my department. After my co-woker fire everyone they fire her a few month later. My boss was fired over a Zoom call. They just just the younger cheap workers in my deparment, 50% cut that day in my deparment. I was treated so mad I did not sign the crappy severance.
I had just my badge turn off in another one. I been called to fix a conferance room issues and was met my a CIO, then let go and walk out. It's never ends nice, but hey expect you treat them like family and work to live.
So sad that employers do something so cruel in such an impersonal and cold way! I also hate that frequently layoffs happen in December right before Christmas because that's the best thing for the company's fiscal year. Such a devastating time for people and their families!
Completely ruins the holidays too. Unless it was a toxic job. Sometimes I felt relief getting let go (when the job market was good though).
I gave up on my tech career after 2 layoffs. Going into phlebotomy now as a 64-year-old woman, after deciding that retirement wasn't working for me. I'm the oldest in my class, but so far so good - I'm actually enjoying it. IT seems to only want young men - preferably foreign.
Unlimited layoffs when pto is used
It's not unlimited, just try to take off everyday of the year. Of course that is not going to be approved. We have this where I work, and as an older worker I take zero days off (for the past 5 years) out of fear of being targeted for layoffs. Add to that, where I used to work, we could save up our time off and cash it out when we eventually leave the company. That is gone under this plan.
Unlimited PTO subject to manager approval could mean NO PTO.
Tech is increasingly becoming a game of politics. You could be crushing your job, getting 8 hours worth of standard engineer work done in 1 hour, but if you contribute that and rightfully take time off after crushing it, other engineers and management will see that and start forcing you out even though you are contributing more than everyone else. If you are going to use the unlimited PTO, understand that other engineers are rats in a rat race, and they expect every other engineer to be a rat that works as hard as they do, but not too much and not too effectively, otherwise they feel you starting to raise their expectations. This is a game of thrones, and you need to be better at it than everyone else.
I thought this was a Vsauce video for a sec because of the thumbnail
I get 5 weeks PTO at my job. I'm staying here until I retire. I'm milking this Cow for every drop. 💧
The "economist" are ether slow or paid off to no talk about certain subjects. I wonder when the "economist" will officially call this period a depression?
There are too many people and not enough "white collar jobs" for all of them. And people don't go to college to become landscapers. I am in IT and when I started in my specific role, I was one of maybe 5-6 qualified candidates per opening, if that, 10+ years ago. Now, every job opening in my role has over 100+ applications/responses within the first few days, because everyone is going into IT and you are setting yourselves up for a lifetime of cubicle death work and constant job changes and lay-off's and corporate/equity acquisitions. Specialize folks, get that degree in something that allows you to do something you enjoy, stability and not having to worry about the next round of lay-offs, merger or new manager every day is priceless, sitting in a chair 8+ hours day will decimate your health starting in your 40's if you do not take care of your health and weight.
find a job man))))
People end up taking less time off, then people with a set amount.
Take a look at the following countries: India. Bangladesh. Sri Lanka. Argentina. Palestine. America is circling the drain!
USPS is hiring mail carriers, people need to take the jobs that are open. I got layoff in 2015 it took me ten months, 12 hours a day, to get a new tech job. I almost left the tech field, I was laid off last year and got multiple offers in weeks.
I worked for an automotive parts company for 6.5 years and hr told me straight up it doesn’t matter what type of associates or bachelors degree you have. They just want a piece of paper stating you attending school and that you were able to show up and commit to it. They hire literally anyone to fill all leadership positions and up, yes the turn over rate was over 70% within 90 days. Now the new company I work for not only pays more but doesn’t require a degree until you enter management or engineering.
America works In cycles. They do this all the time. I remember not too long ago when thousands of people got kicked out of their jobs for roles they’ve been in for years because they didn’t have a degree. EXPERIENCE is king but let those jobs pay for your degree. That’s the best way to do it 💪🏿
Hard to find a job that pays anything over $20/hr even for mechanical engineers. Colleges are a bloody scam. I regret it all!
Would you walk around in a t-shirt that says "unemployed"? 'Nough said.
Why don't you talk about the TN visa, too? Do some research on it. You would be surprised that over a million jobs are going to Candians, under the NAFTA agreement, not just mere 85k from H1B. Come back to us when you find content on the TN Visa. Or maybe Canadians are not considered foreigners? The last time I checked, Canada was not part of the US. And, they certainly take helll more jobs than the labor that comes on the H1B.
Thanks for this info. I will make a video on this.
There are over 31 million foreign workers and students in our country and there is a housing crisis. Too many people and no way to sustain this.
On the general topic of H1B visa - I really don't think they should be giving out any visas until less Americans are suffering. From what I can tell there is a pretty big problem with work in the US so I don't see why they should be letting in more workers and "fucking over" Americans to give foriegners jobs. If he wants those workers so badly go open up his offices in those countries
Have you tried getting on a platform like upwork and charging a low price to get a few clients and then raising your price after a couple of clients? You might even "pay" someone to hire you on upwork to get a rating and then you can slowly raise your price up until you reach a more realistic price to match your experience.
The devaluing of degrees is going to make every job impossible to get. That’s the reason they had degree requirements in the first place. It is the easiest indicator to sort out applicants. That’s all it’s ever been used for. There are no corporations that will trust a high school graduate without immense experience and credibility first.
finally
Well this is hilarious 😂 as soon as I get my AA jobs require a BA/BS, now I'm getting my BS and jobs don't care for them!!
WP did this to itself by bending the knee to Trump. Bezos should sell the paper to somebody not afraid of Trump.
I have had a love/hate relationship with my job- so glad to have a job honestly, this is crazy,
Is an MBA the new requirement for consideration as undergraduate degrees become over saturated? I suppose one could also argue that masters/graduate programs are becoming over saturated as well.
Trade jobs are what in demand, the professional careers are saturated.
There is no correlation between degree and career. Most STEM majors don't even work in STEM. A degree just shows that you're a person who is able to absorb large variety of information, and that's why college graduates are sought after before non college graduate.s
Someone needs to keep track of the number of resumes each American is submitting each week. Most people think we are in a recession although you would never hear anything about it on the news. If this goes on for years, it may be something that is structurally wrong with capitalism. If it is a problem with capitalism, you may need to create a separate system for the people who aren’t benefiting from it. There are ways you can give people some sense of purpose even if they’re not part of the greater system.
Companies that publish job listings for positions that don't exist should be charges for fraud. Full stop.
Maybe the rich enlightened liberals can chip in $ to help the poor employees.
Well, the Amazon WA Post Propaganda is owned by Jeff Bezos. Maybe he can find work for the layoffs in his Amazon HQ.
Comparing what is going on today to technology getting rid of elevator operators is so intellectually facile, manipulative and lacking in serious. When you slowly chip away at the job market for decades, there comes a tipping point when lack of jobs and automation outpaces gains in new jobs.
You should space out your video like 1 video a day so the yt algorithm god will love you more
That's what I thought I did. Didn't want them to go live at the same time. Dang.
The resignation of the cartoonist is interesting 😮
Yeahhhh.... newspapers have a tough future outlook.
