Cher : Who want to go Poly?
80% students raise their hands
*cher*
JC changed me as a person tremendously. I was actually a slacker in secondary school but I still cared for my education but that meant late night mugging and last minute revision. I literally studied 2 weeks before o levels but still managed to score 4pts. But then I entered JC, and the amount of workload I had on my hands , I swear, were more than I had in all 4 years in secondary school. This included cca and other non academic events. But it really stretches you and teaches you discipline , that’s why a lot of people in JC are able to withstand stress & pressure. People say JC is only memorising things, but hell no mannn, memorising things will only get you a pass. There are a lot of application questions you really need to wreck your brain, and it’s exhausting as hell. Olevels was nothing compared to Alevels.
Hana kimura L7 lol. But i cant handle stress. So going poly is better for me. Going jc will not only not teach mr discipline but make me have a mental breakdown or a pass to giving up on life. And how can u score so well if u did last min rev for o lvls u mus b a genius
Hana kimura L7 do u have any last minute study tips? damn 4 pts with only 2 weeks of last minute studying
skraaapapa kakaka he cfm got pay attention in class one. Just never revise so he probably got his basics and foundations, only need to memorise and practice then done
I studied the night before eoy when i was sec 2 but somehow still managed to meet the criteria for triple science.
Now I’m suffering in hell with my triple science class.
Anyway 2 diff systems hard to compare lol
As much as people say it is possible to last minute cram, it doesn’t work if you didn’t already have the foundation. Seriously just trying to cram one subject is already crazy imagine having to cram 3 H2 subjects, 1 H1 subject, general paper etc, it is possible to cram hut impossible to score well if you last minute
Yeah... JC requires more consistency than what people think
das right
truth. JC is a lot more than just mugging but I guess it also depends on your school.
You can cram for the first year, but don't do it for A levels😂
But jc gives students more time to practice and enquire which is important for exams. Poly hardly have such time for that
I totally agree with the fact that people who know what they want to do after o levels should go to poly rather than JC, cause they have their interests and aspirations sorted...but the one thing I don't understand is the competition of poly and JC students when it comes to university applications...all the professors in the uni open houses just keep saying to try your best and have faith...I know that GPA is important but even when poly students have high GPA, the preference is still given to JC students since the system has been such for so long...this is one thing that bothers me a lot.
somesh salunke aptitude wise, it may be because the average jc student is more academically inclined than the average poly student. So in a sense, a 80% in a jc exam is probably better than a 80% in a poly exam, after factoring in the bell curve. Also, most jc students are trained to withstand the stress and high academic rigour which helps in uni, rather than the popular belief that it's just purely memorising of content. Just my 2cents
KTXH I agree with what u said...I just find that people think poly students are too laid back...it's not the case for all...I seriously want to pursue further education after NS...I just hope that I can get admission based on my result.
YOU CAN'T DO SHIT WITH A LEVEL CERT(excluding mcdonald)...you can do some shit with a diploma.
Soo...if JC students aren't prioritised, then why people still want go JC._.
@@kyoli9847An 'A' Levels certificate allows students to get accepted into universities at a much much higher probability than students who go to polytechnic. You get a degree after completeing university which is of a higher achievement and status than just a diploma. Degree-holders are in higher demand than diploma-holders and have a much more higher job opportunites and receives higher pay. People who go to JCs are willing to much work much more harder and longer for that extra chance to land the job they desire.
Hey Lykizlyk Lmao no need to judge people’s choices, u stick with poly/ ITE and the smarter ones stick to jc. People want to go Uni the fastest way none of your business
Don't go to JC if your foundations are weak period. Don't be stubborn. If you underestimate the difficulty of JC and still choose to go to JC then you are the one who will suffer in the end. If you just scrape through all your papers for alevel it will not get you anywhere. You will only command $100-$200 more than a olevel cert. Figure out your interest in secondary sch and go to poly. Some people give the wrong advice that 80% of Uni admissions are from JC so just go JC. This advise is just very dumb. Anywhere you go you still have to work hard. Just because 80% of Uni students came from JC doesn't mean that going to JC will automatically guarantee you a place in Uni. Its for your own good only. Don't go to JC if your foundations are weak...it will both physically and mentally tortuous for you. And also pls la stop thinking that going to poly means that your education will end there. Go to poly and graduate with a decent gpa...work for a while and you can always go back to studying. Now there are more local Uni options for you choose like sutd, sit and suss for poly students. Good Luck and pls decide wisely.
Thank you so much:) i needed that... I really did need this advise.
Nice
What Mars said about Poly students going to Uni is 200% accurate, that is literally how I'm feeling right now in my first year.... Honestly feel like dying competing with the JC kids who are good at mugging. Made me rethink why I chose to go uni actually and felt like dropping out so many times you dont even know. Giving me a mental torture. Altho I came from a business course in Poly also and taking biz again in Uni, there's not really any advantage over the JC students tbh.
You took a biz course in Polly? Can I ask if business school culture is toxic? My seniors in poly warned me that it is toxic and very competitive. From your experience, is this true?
Ohmygodd
I might intend to take business course in the future, this gives me a little bit more info to go jc or poly. Thanks!
@@edwardmiguel653 Omg... i'm sorry for missing out your response. Well, competitive definitely, everyone wants to do well. One thing for sure is there'll be alot of "snakes", people will judge, people will step over you, people may discredit you, but you should never give up on yourself or be affected by them. Focus on you. Business school is a very big cohort of us, bound to have toxic people + at that age we all wna be cool & stuff. Sometimes, it's really suay bah, see who you meet in life, and the decisions you make for yourself. My only advice is to find a group of friends who will support each other, I feel that's very important & would ultimately affect your experience. I personally found my group of people n my poly days were my best & most fun educational years. Set goals for yourself too, so even if you wna go have some fun just be sure not to go astray from what you wanted to achieve in the first place!
Sorry for this late reply, i'm pretty sure school has started for some time alrd, i hope you're doing well!
Love the improvement of the little title tag on the upper left corner to keep the viewers reminded on the current topic that is being discussed! Also, keep Mars on more chickchats!! I like her personality and the way she voices her opinions! :)
Thank you for doing this! Really needed it :)
While the only disadvantage of me if I were to go poly is I have a small wardrobe so keep wearing same stuff everytime, but it's worth it since poly will allow me to do hands on and stuff.
I always thought Leah was from Poly! But turns out she's from JC hahaahaha
Please make a ep on ‘ studying in Sg vs overseas’!!!!!!
Yan Ling yessss
They covered that in this video: ruclips.net/video/t-HrIWzr0-4/видео.html
Can you guys talk about the art and science stream in JC. I really dont know what to choose when i go to JC because i also dont know that much about each stream.
Hello maybe you guys can cover the topic of having a passion vs knowing what you want to do in life? As someone who graduated from poly, I've met many people who ended up pursuing a degree or landing in jobs that are unrelated to their diploma. I'd love to hear your opinions especially from fellow millennials! Love this series :)
Adhi S is it easy to switch course in uni after poly?
For me I stopped at my diploma. I think it depends on the degree you choose? For example I think it's rather impossible to switch from a non-science to a science degree. Most of the cases I know are the opposite. But like they say when there's a will there's a way :P
is it possible to switch from engineering to media or biz courses ?
you guys should a do a video on if kids should follow what their parents want them to be!
Would you retain in an elite Sec sch (IP) or would you choose to go poly
Thank you! I really need this im only in lower sec but my mum wants me to go to jc and i dont really know the diff
Leah seems more like a poly student haha.
A lot of people say JC is a good place to figure out what you wanna do. But as a person who has experienced both (JC first), I feel otherwise. Because you are not sure what to do, you have no aim/inspiration to keep mugging. And it's not easy to mug in JC. It gets really pointless, esp when you get to your 2nd year and you want to ask advice regarding what to specialise, be it back to diploma or degree, the teachers in JC (in my experience) are not able to provide you information about the working industry. I think JC tries very hard to create a holistic student environment but it really fails to do so. Another example would be the "you can mug last minute for A levels" but that's really not encouraging consistency and the genuine willingness to learn. It allows the students to slack off and be complacent. Yes, you may not know what course to pick in Poly but I assure you, 90% of my classmates don't know what they're getting themselves into either. In the end, they liked it and they're paid for a job afterwards. You can do nothing w a A Levels cert. Logic.
What about the poly people that didn't like their course? lmao.
I forgot to add the fact that if they didn't like their course, they'll probably just scrape through it as friends are more likely to help one another in poly. Upon graduation, they can choose to continue that line bcos after experiencing intern, they would find it to be not so bad, becos working industry IS really different from studying. OR upon graduation, they can change their line and still be working a full-time job eventho its not related because a diploma is passport to the industry. I'm just saying - poly is a safer choice for the fickle minded.
I think it’s really up to the individual. Both systems are very different and it’s no use comparing. If you know that you want to further your studies and perhaps get a better pay out of that then JC is the way to go ( eg. doing nursing in a Uni helps you start at a higher position than someone with a diploma). Whereas for many people in poly who are ok with the fact that they might not be able to further their studies would go ahead and work straightaway. It’s myopic to say that the a level cert is useless, it opens many doors when it comes to further education ( if you’re results are pretty decent).
well it just seems like your JC was shit lol mine was pretty fun and i knew what i wanna do for my future through my jc
wa this basically sums up my jc life and 99% of the time i've been regretting my decision just because i feel so empty studying
local university vs overseas university :))
I have never gone to poly or jc I went straight to private school and get my diploma... but now I am happy with my route...
so i already have a course that i want to do to in poly but then at the same time ,i am a person that don't really like teamwork , i prefer studying ,like by the textbook u know . so i am not very sure if i should go jc or poly
lin li does your school have an education and career guidance counselor?
Should I change from poly to Jc?
yes shout to all my nuh ent internship colleagues!! internships are the best in polys, its like my second home!!
Many routes to the same destiny. JC or poly. Chose what u like. I went poly, bcos I don't see the point of studying science, maths,... for A level. Even though I qualify for JC. Poly make you mature earlier. It becomes very obvious in the army. If I can do everything all over again. I will get career guidance as early as sec1. It will help me to discover myself, weigh my options, find my calling. These are more important than JC or poly.
jim w yeah true. I mean jus think, if u alr know wat u want to be and do in the future, why do u still bother to take up other irrelevant subjects in jc? Such as humanities, econs, math, sci etc. When u can jus go poly n specialise. One thing i think the govt shld do is to make jc n poly of equal standing. I rly hope the poly is worse kind of stereotype will go away. Its not true. Some of the courses in poly have cut off points even lower than that of some JCs.
Bro you don’t get it. People go to Jc because they want to go to Uni. Poly is still worse then jc because it’s not academically oriented hence why only 20 percent of poly students can go to Uni. So in short if you want a lower salary you can go poly. Otherwise go JC
Trevyen Darukhanawalla nonsense. How narrow minded are u? Which idiot tell u JC that lead u to uni will get a higher pay, whereas 80% of poly grad don't make it to uni? Time for u to wake up to reality. You are very short sighted. How much u make in future is regardless whether u are from poly, Jc, uni,...
Wait til u work for a boss who only has ITE cert. the world is so Big, but your mind is just so small. You are a typical product of sg education system. Sigh...
@@jimw8615 there are exceptions to the rule but as general rule uni grads make more money . Doctors and lawyers And accountants and engineers must go uni and jc is the fastest way. Of course if you start a business on your own then no one cares about your paper qualifications.
thanks for the advice (even though im still not sure what I want to do XD)
what about ITE? pls
"Go to a JC, because it is easier to enter Uni" *nods head* I personally think during secondary school, sec 3-4, kids should start thinking about their interest to have a goal when studying for their O level. There are both pros and cons in entering JC or Poly. Also, not all poly courses offer internship so it is also important for students to do prior research and go for open houses. Last but not least, thanks Zula for this video!
I'm not good in both. But life turns out differently in the end if you work hard.
to EAE/DSA or not to EAE/DSA?
What about private schools?
I think that you should go JC if you are unsure of what to do in the future. You can just study hard so that you can keep your options open.
If you want to have working experience, I recommend working part time during holidays provided you are able to cope with your current workload.
For poly, if you are sure of what you want to do in the future, you can choose to go to poly to accumulate knowledge and experience about that specific sector so that you will have an advantage later on.
Having said that, both require self-discipline and cramming last minute will not get you anywhere.
take a science course if you guys really want to keep your options open. once you choose the arts course in JC you cant choose a science course in university anymore. The most important subjects you should choose for your H2 is math and chemistry!! all the best regardless of your choice.
Sub combi?
YAS I AM EARLY, NGEE ANN REPRESENT. I wanted jc too!☺️
Ultimately just listen to your Mother 😂
How about ITE schools ?
wah her angkong
why am i looking at this video when i am just a higher nitec graduate that decided to withdraw myself from SP DMAT and looking forward to a teaching career in music. Really envy how these people aren't burn out from years of studies unlike me):
If you are burnt out, it could be you lacked aptitude for the subjects you were taking . Or your study technique is not efficient. For myself , I really do not have aptitude for humanities subject. Doing math And science was really enjoyable to me . If I had to do humanities I would definitely burn out .
*"I regretted for giving up and not studying hard"*
Not sure what to do but didn’t do well enough for JC hmmm
I'm a sec 2 student and I'm wondering if I should go JC or Poly? I have a lot of interests and not sure if I should go towards which in interests? Any suggestions/tips?
I think it's good you're thinking ahead.Make sure if you're going to polytechnic that you know what you want to do. Don't choose randomly. Do find out as much as you can about the courses before deciding. Make sure you like the course and then go ahead
yu ki honestly, you could start with personality tests for careers (I think your school would have introduced it like skillsfuture portal) that'll give you somewhere to start
yu ki which school are you from,, I think I know you
Would be nice to see JC vs Poly vs ITE.
7:30 "the workload is poly student workload, but intense pressure of jc" i didnt get this.
Honestly, going into either JC or poly does require some direction. Yes, although it may seem that it's easier to enter Unis with A levels but different courses also have their different subject requirements. And if you don't have them, they'll just reject your application. And if you apply for poly, you'd definitely already need an interest in the subject you're studying for direction right? So... I think whether it's JC or Poly you would need direction. If you're undecided, try eliminating things(ie courses) you don't like first. At least you'll have a more manageable group of ideas to work with for a start.
No matter where you go no one have interest. I have 8 points for o lvl but I didn't had any interest for poly courses. I repeated o lvl twice past sec 5 resulting in me too old to be eligible for jc(screw that age discrimination)
Poly u can just slack then when it is nearing exams u just mug what... but jc u cant do that shyt m8
Still blur whether I should take pfp or not...
Yao Teck Ng if you know what you want already, go for it. But if you are unsure, there’s no harm trying for Os.
Jc students dont contact professionals, say what? Lmao
FIRST
Further maths and physics and chemistry and biology is not just “ mugging” especially maths and physics ...that girl with tattoos has no idea what she is taking about. IMO she is just jelly she cannot do well in certain subjects.
ite vs poly?
kind of the same thing tho
PYS Channel I'm planning to go to ITE as it has less requirements to enter but...i heard that ppl look down on ITE students. I'm currently living in another country so I can't confirm this.
Irisha Grace go ite you wast time
Actually what is the difference between JC and poly?
JC u study a lot of subjects for one final exam (just like sec school) but poly is constant hardwork for every semester to get your FINAL grade (more focused to the subject u chose)
But if you merge all your 33 modules and compare to jc content, you realised you work harder than jc counterparts
girl with tattoos please lah just because you are not good at certain subjects does not mean those subjects are mugger subjects.
i have no artistic talent .. i do not say art is just for decoration .
