We really need to protect her mental health with our recommendations. OH HEY KENNIE! I mean, it won’t be great for your mental health because there is heavy content, so I am sabotaging my own dream for you, but… you know. Surely the whitest thing I can do is say I want good things for someone and then not meaningfully follow through on that, so at least I’ve checked that off my list for today 🎉😭
@@lenan5913 😂 a couple mins after commenting I 100% had an ADHD “was that entertaining or just crushingly awkward?” moment and resigned myself to it already being on the internet
@@devonmunn5728 absolutely. I love Cosima, but that’s one of those things that wasn’t great at the time and hasn’t aged well. Over time I’ve started thinking about it as a signalling a kind of “progressive white person with a bunch of privilege and lacking awareness,” which works for the character, but I don’t think that was the plan when they were doing character design.
Have to say as an afro-dominican, I'm glad you have discovered them because yes most of our movies are... something, but I need to say Historical movies are really good and in recent years we have had really interesting propositions in cinema. But contextualising the racism, colorism, and misogyny in the movie is the reality of how many people feel about themselves and others. Like yes, at least 70% of the population, I would say even more, is black and or mixed, and a lot of people don't recognize themselves as black. A lot of the time, it takes the person to live abroad or go out of the country to realise it, especially light-skinned people, because most of us pass as "white" in DR. Also, racism in DR is not a thing for a big part of the population, education is really a privilege there, and colorism is not even a concept. Anti-blackness is something that is intertwined with our history and is really hard for a lot of people to recognize that is a reality. When you try saying something about someone doing microaggressions or being blatantly racist, people treat you like you are crazy. It's something that is trying to be changed actively in the country but the reality is that most of the people in power and with the money and education to do something, are the white Dominicans and those who are closer in proximity to whiteness and believe me, the just want to continue things going like this. Regarding other bad movies in the realm of Dominican Cinema, you need to check out the ones that are made by "Robertico" Roberto Salcedo {The one mayor who put the gorilla statue that you saw in the film}. His films are truly the worst. Each he had a new one, a lot of us just go "whyyyy". He has reaaaallyy bad gems like Pobres Millionarios, (I don't know a lot of them because I know how bad they will be and refuse to watch them)}. Context in the industry, at least some years ago because things are finally changing, a lot of the actors that were used in popular movies weren't actors, they were just people known in the media. The one that plays "Lorenzo" is Fausto Mata, a well-known comedian in the country, regardless he's funny or not, is something he has been doing for a long time in a duo with another comedian, Raymond Pozo. Some bad movies -Lotoman -Cinderelo by Robertico -Pobres Millonarios (Poor millionaires) by Robertico -Todos los hombres son iguales (All men are the same) Some good ones: -Jack Veneno -Tropico de Sangre -El Teniente Amado
There are many fantastic Dominican movies from the last few years that are being shown in many Festivals though; a lot fo action and dramas that have great performances, but yeah, this one is special, lol.

Kennie talking about more international movies I am all here for. It would be cool to see Kennie do periods where she goes and watches a movie from every country and talks about them (whether it be BB&B or GG&G) it would be nice. And maybe also a tier ranking video
Dreading the day she finds the racist South African Christian movie "Faith Like Potatoes". For GG&G she (and everyone) should check out Five Fingers for Marseilles (it's a neo-western! Really cool).

oh girl you dont know nothing, i remember when this movie came out, i still remember the song and everyone singing it, some info tho, the black man is a comedian with the nickname of "boca de piano" or "piano mouth" bc of his teeth, same reason why the white actor had those teeth and he has built his career based on that, the fact that he is ugly also DR is EXTREMELY colorist, more so before but nowadays is getting a lil bit better, there are a LOT of advertisements with black and brown ppl and there have been fights for darker ppl, for example it was deemed unprofessional going to work with an afro but slowly things have been kind of changing, sadly a lot of the colorism issues come from the hatred of haitians, theres been some disputes as of lately and on one hand i could have understood when you know that we became independant of haitians but nowadays its gotten out of control, anyhow dominican media in general has been really stuck not bc the country itself is stuck in time but more bc the ppl who make big media (like series and movies) have always been a select few, there have been and still are more current media out from younger generations but its always under the radar of the common ppl
I literallyyyy just was like where is Kennie at?? and searched to make sure I hadn’t missed the notification lol luhhh you girl. you’re my consistency goals atp!! KEEP IT UP ❤
As a Dominican, I'm proud that you watched a Dominican movie. But in a more real sense....I'm deeply ashamed that this is our representation. You are absolutely right that colorism is very loud. Even though I am US-born, I grew up hearing that my light skin was a blessing and my non-kinky hair was beautiful. I wasn't allowed to date men who were "too dark" and taught to apply sunscreen every day. However, this was not done to protect my skin but to maintain my skin's fairness/lightness. The disregard for Haitians is wildly aggressive and only because of the color of their skin. It's truly sad 😢
ooh idk if youve reacted to any yet but id highly recommend thai bls for this series, or just to watch in general. now i love thai bls... but they can get a little wacky cooky bananas
12:30 re: the visa joke, oh it's not only anti-black, that joke is specifically insinuating that he looks like a Haitian, given that many Haitians are migrant workers in the DR. that's probably the more accurate lens to see the entire film, tbh: it's anti-black by way of being anti-Haitian as a lot of the colorism in the DR is rooted in anti-Haitian sentiment
That’s incorrect, the visa joke is a very common expression in DR and it means that the person is very dressed up, it comes from the insane requirements from the US consulate when you go get a tourist visa and how people dress up very nicely to not give officers a reason to deny you a tourist visa based on class prejudice
Reading the comments before going into this because I’m Dominican but I now we have some TRASH out there lol EDIT: I can’t believe I saw this at the theaters. Me and my fam spend MONEY to see this disaster of a movie. Like we were so done with Dominican movies being so bad but we thought of giving it a last chance and this is what we saw 😂😂😂😭 I think kennie should watch lottoman next lol
Inspired film idea: what if a guy thinks he's sexy by night, but actually it's only because the lightening in the club is just really bad, and due to a series of fortunate circumstances he just hasn't been actually basked by unflattering light during the night for a while.
I’m gonna be honest, not trying to be mean, but they both look..fine. Like would be attractive people if they dressed up well and average otherwise. The white guy looks like Shawn from Boy Meets World after a midlife crisis lol
Literally, i remember my dad telling me once "marry who you love but don't bring a Black man to this house" Y total, ¿qué hombre voy a traer si resulta que soy gay? 🫢
As a Mexican, agreed. My mom's light, my dad's dark, I'm brown, and the amount of times I've had family joke and make fun of how dark I am is ridiculous. Even my dad will be biased towards lighter skin tones and it's like, "how are you darker than I am and think you have room to talk?" You get used to it 🙃
I'm half Puerto Rican & half Italian, and from NJ. I briefly lived in Puerto Rico and virtually every person I met commented on how very white I am (literally & figuratively) and assumed I was a tourist from Italy. It was super weird because it's the U.S. but felt like The Twilight Zone.
Truthfully , my adhd ass was so fascinated with the process of putting on a wig and I was only barely paying attention to what you were saying about the movie.
Maybe it's because I have not been brainwashed by a colorist environment. But white Lorenzo and Black Lorenzo are not that different in terms of attractiveness. They both look like fairly average men in their early 40s? Black Lorenzo is kinda short but besides that, there's not much difference.
I'm five minutes in and just heard the summary. I thought it'd be about a girl/guy who looks bad by day and pretty at night (like a reverse shrek concept) I WAS NOT READY FOR THAT PLOT
As a Dominican the last thing I expected was to see Kennie reviewing a Dominican movie!!! This movie was the shit when it came out, I still remember like it was yesterday. This video just made my day so much better! Also, I need you to watch Qué León. It's literally Romeo and Juliet but make it Dominican and with Ozuna in it. It's so weird, so fever-ish and nightmare inducing, and I absolutely love it.
omg when you said you're mic's audio was off the first time and that you had to film again after 2 hours, a certain pain trickled in me. (. _ . ) So sorry Kennie!! I feel the annoyance through the screen (T 0 T)
Here I was wondering why this Saturday didn’t feel like a Saturday….but here you are! Uploading in the middle of the night (german time) and making sure I get my weekly dose of bad movies
I loved watching you apply your wig. It's a fascinating process. (My own experience is mostly "Party City quality, yanking on a cheap wig cap, and plopping the wig on" lack of attention.) And wow, foreign movies remind me how xenocentric I've been raised as an American.
The scene where he was in a tent…😂 true story my mom kicked out my dad because he was an alcoholic and wasn’t helping….instead of leaving he literally pitched a tent in our backyard and just lived in there for a few 😂😂😂
Maybe I'm just too queer to get it, but these two men are the same level of attractive but in different skintones 😶Was it the point? I feel like I'm seeing a colorism version of that The Office meme with identical pictures
According to various commenters I've been seeing here, no- that is very much not the point. The white man was at the time a very popular actor, and considered "The Dominican Brad Pitt". The black man is a comedian nicknamed "boca de piano", or piano mouth due to his teeth looking like piano keys, I presume? He is considered to be very goofy-looking nad not at all conventionally handsome, and has made that into his trademark. Essentially a comedian monetizing the fact that he's NOT a looker, but can at least laugh at himself for the same reasons others laugh at him too. They apparently gave the white actor prosthetic teeth so that the black comedians "trade mark" could be maintained in him, so apparently they made the "handsome" one artificially look more like the "ugly" one- that might be part of why we outsiders see them and go "wait... is the other one handsome JUST because he's white", when in actuality the "handsome" has been made to look more like the "goofy" in this movie.
I have seen Racisim in America before. Not by anyone white but its in the mixed dateing scene. No Joke- I wouldn't know this if it weren't for my East Asian Adopted Sister. She is a dark Asian. She is always dateing mixed boys. I had no idea (until she told me) that the girls prefer "Light Skins" (Pale African Americans or mixed people). That her ex- only got girls because he was "The only light skin in the area". Further more- in her Burmese Culture mothers tend to show favoritism towards their children who are pale. She was darker then her siblings and was mocked for being "Black" (darker but they called her black even though she isn't that dark). She at times says how she hates her skin color and gets annoyed with it. There are cultures in America that really feed into the "White is Beautiful" idealology. I have seen it a lot in my sister's town that is made up of refugees. People don't want 'white people' they want "Lights skins" like if that makes it any better. I get grossed out because I always followed the "People of Character over Color" belief. This movie reminded me of that. The preference of pale in the dating pool. I even talked to my Dominican friend about it and she said it's a huge thing for many middle class members. Like in India, D.R has an ideal 'marriage type'. Not seen often in America but like I said- you can find it.
At first when I saw the title I was confused because ugly half the day and handsome the other half just reminded me of the manhwa lookism which has basically that premise when the treatment of the character varies based on if his body is currently ugly or handsome but then I started watching the video and saw the synopsis ugly(black) by day handsome(white) by night which I was like OH Honestly though I feel that the black by day white by night could work as an interesting exploration into race even perhaps as an allegory for being biracial. But that’s kind of only if people making the movie knew what they were doing to not make it racist 😅
This man made SO MANY Dominican movies, Sanky Panky like that is a Classic. It’s about resort workers trying to get older white women to marry them for green cards

I mean... I guess that goes for a lot of people? 😂
its more like a daytime/nighttime thing the literal translation of the title is "ugly by day/pretty by night" like dr Jekyll/mr Hyde thing but its not a personality/evil side change but literally from unattractive/attractive
@@patriciaramirez2982 oooh like Fiona from Shrek?
@@cookiecomments846 basically yes but it’s not like an inhuman level of unattractiveness
I did not ever expect for anyone that's not Dominican to watch a boca de piano movie, that being said you should watch the sanky panky series
Fr, for me this is shocking
Why? 😭
“Ahhh ti*ties” 😂😂😂😂 that made me laugh a lot harder than I should’ve 😂😂
I'd so love that on a t shirt 😂😂
So summarily, it's fiona's curse from shrek, but on a man and its racist , ok gotcha .
I hate it 😒 , I want the audacity of the creator 😤
As a Caribbean, I can say that it's not only a thing in DR. Also, they see people from like Haiti as less than others. It's mostly the older generation that are colorist and racist.
20:05 You are correct, it wasn't an ad for watches, it was actually an ad for the department store he got the watches from. That's why the scene felt so odd and out of place😭😭
the dominicans (including myself) are screaming rn LMAO 'cause this are those little hiding stuff that make us look real bad 💀and the song feo de dia y lindo de noche was a whole bop in that time pleaseee
I fucking jinxed it cuz while she was reviewing Filipino movies, I said “thank the gods she never gonna see Dominican movies”
I was so wrong 😭
The artist formerly known as twitter is hilarious lol
Tbh I could go on and on about how extreme colorism is in the DR. I was talking to a few friends about it, some white and some black and they wouldn’t believe me until I showed articles and videos. I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic but I’m also albino so I fit into NEITHER or the Dominican niches lmfao. I was too white for the blacks and too white for the whites 😭 grew up constantly being bullied for the color of my skin.
But KENNIE there is SO MANY TRASH FILMS you should watch lmfao. Like if you want a list let me slide one to you. The horror films are my favorite tbh but can you believe most Dominican films are shown on THEATER (in DR ofc)
Why are you called Yesternitt?
“No, romance is dead and what I’m doing is getting some ass I’m loving my life right now.” What a sentence lol
I’ve enjoy watching kennie so much that I’m literally waiting every upload because I’ve binged the whole channel already 😭
Never have I clicked on a notification so fast. It does feel bad typing about a blessing for the day when Kennie has suffered so much for our entertainment. We really need to protect her mental health with our recommendations.
OH HEY KENNIE! I reckon you’d really like Orphan Black - it’s a series that wrapped up a few years ago and is only five seasons, but it’s really interesting. There’s some rough spots but I think you’d like it. I mean, it won’t be great for your mental health because there is heavy content, so I am sabotaging my own dream for you, but… you know. Surely the whitest thing I can do is say I want good things for someone and then not meaningfully follow through on that, so at least I’ve checked that off my list for today 🎉😭
second thought: 9 to 5 is a classic but also WILD so another thing I’d love to see on this channel 👀
The second half of this comment is so real and so hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@lenan5913 😂 a couple mins after commenting I 100% had an ADHD “was that entertaining or just crushingly awkward?” moment and resigned myself to it already being on the internet
She probably would get super annoyed at Cosima (a white woman) wearing locs
@@devonmunn5728 absolutely. I love Cosima, but that’s one of those things that wasn’t great at the time and hasn’t aged well. Over time I’ve started thinking about it as a signalling a kind of “progressive white person with a bunch of privilege and lacking awareness,” which works for the character, but I don’t think that was the plan when they were doing character design.
Kennie doing a dominican “clavo” movie for BMAB was not on my 2023 bingo car lmao
Some bad movies
-Lotoman
-Cinderelo by Robertico
-Pobres Millonarios (Poor millionaires) by Robertico
-Todos los hombres son iguales (All men are the same)
Some good ones:
-Jack Veneno
-Tropico de Sangre
-El Teniente Amado
There are many fantastic Dominican movies from the last few years that are being shown in many Festivals though; a lot fo action and dramas that have great performances, but yeah, this one is special, lol.
The guy's not even ugly 😂. All he needs is just a bit of confidence and boom!
This has been the worst week, I'm gonna dye my hair and watch Kennie talk sh*t while spell check corrects her name.
This movie premise made me cringe so hard, I can still feel it in my neck.
I saw this movie suggested to me by RUclips movies and I kept reading the name thinking I was reading it wrong at first, but nope 😭 thank you for taking one for the team and covering this movie bc what the hell????
Kennie talking about more international movies I am all here for. It would be cool to see Kennie do periods where she goes and watches a movie from every country and talks about them (whether it be BB&B or GG&G) it would be nice. And maybe also a tier ranking video
Dreading the day she finds the racist South African Christian movie "Faith Like Potatoes". For GG&G she (and everyone) should check out Five Fingers for Marseilles (it's a neo-western! Really cool).
Toupee tape (white and yellow box) works a lot better than any of the wig tapes I’ve used. Also works WAY better than fabric tape if you need clothing (stockings) to stay in place
I don't understand how any actual human being thought this plot was conceptually sound. My poor boggled mind
When I saw you reply on twitter I definitely thought it was gonna be colorism the movie and the ending was gonna be like just be white too like omg
"Andrea" is a hilariously bad Dominican "scary" movie, please look it up!
PLEASE I WATCHED THAT MOVIE AS KID AND TO THIS DAY I STILL THIBK ABOUT THE TERRIBLE VFX ON THE ZOMBIE MAN
If you’ve seen American Psycho the movie, you don’t really need to read American Psycho the book. Bret is an excruciating writer
love, I Used To Own A Copy Of The Book And It Sucks
My dumb ass was like, "why would only non-fans buy tickets to a concert of a band they aren't even a fan of???" Then I realized that she meant like a fan, as in the things that blow air..... and English is my first language 🙃
omg she did it!! i really though this wasn’t going to make the cut mostly because dominican spanish is really hard to fully understand if you are not dominican
oh girl you dont know nothing, i remember when this movie came out, i still remember the song and everyone singing it, some info tho, the black man is a comedian with the nickname of "boca de piano" or "piano mouth" bc of his teeth, same reason why the white actor had those teeth and he has built his career based on that, the fact that he is ugly also DR is EXTREMELY colorist, more so before but nowadays is getting a lil bit better, there are a LOT of advertisements with black and brown ppl and there have been fights for darker ppl, for example it was deemed unprofessional going to work with an afro but slowly things have been kind of changing, sadly a lot of the colorism issues come from the hatred of haitians, theres been some disputes as of lately and on one hand i could have understood when you know that we became independant of haitians but nowadays its gotten out of control, anyhow dominican media in general has been really stuck not bc the country itself is stuck in time but more bc the ppl who make big media (like series and movies) have always been a select few, there have been and still are more current media out from younger generations but its always under the radar of the common ppl
I literallyyyy just was like where is Kennie at?? and searched to make sure I hadn’t missed the notification lol luhhh you girl. you’re my consistency goals atp!! KEEP IT UP ❤
As a Dominican woman born january 8th,,,,just...get ready girl
i can't wait for "he looked down at his white penis" to be included in bmaab without context
I just don't understand why he didn't just do what he did with his friend and show Marielle the transformation??
maybe he thought she would be too scared and never go out with him again
because the movie wasn't over
How is this the title of an actual movie??
Kennie, there's another Bring It On movie called Bring It On: Cheer or Die and it looks teeeerible!😂
I was prepared for the worst but the mere premise of this film took years off my life. I'm scaaarrred
ooh idk if youve reacted to any yet but id highly recommend thai bls for this series, or just to watch in general. now i love thai bls... but they can get a little wacky cooky bananas
hmm actually they are series rather than movies but i still recommend them
Giiirl now you gotta do "Sanky Panky" its with the same actor!! 😂😂😂
This is super weird but I saw you at Sleep Token last night! I hope you loved the show, it was amazing :D
I'm dominican LMAOOOOOOO and the movies are so low budget and ass .
Reading the comments before going into this because I’m Dominican but I now we have some TRASH out there lol
EDIT: I can’t believe I saw this at the theaters. Me and my fam spend MONEY to see this disaster of a movie. Like we were so done with Dominican movies being so bad but we thought of giving it a last chance and this is what we saw 😂😂😂😭
I think kennie should watch lottoman next lol
Inspired film idea: what if a guy thinks he's sexy by night, but actually it's only because the lightening in the club is just really bad, and due to a series of fortunate circumstances he just hasn't been actually basked by unflattering light during the night for a while.
I'm sorry, but when yelled : que negro marveloso! I was taken out!😂😂
I’m gonna be honest, not trying to be mean, but they both look..fine. Like would be attractive people if they dressed up well and average otherwise. The white guy looks like Shawn from Boy Meets World after a midlife crisis lol
IVE NEVER SEEN A RUclipsR REVIEW THE MOVIES I GREW UP ON. Is this what representation feels like
✨️If anything is universal along with gravity and oxygen... its the audacity of a man.✨️
Another gem 👌
it really is the worst movies that bring out your best makeup looks, like!!! you look fantastic!!!! ଘ(੭ˊ꒳ˋ)੭✧
Puerto Rican here: you'd be surprised how in your face Latino/Hispanics are about their colorism against darker skin tones. They have no shame -_-
Literally, i remember my dad telling me once "marry who you love but don't bring a Black man to this house"
Y total, ¿qué hombre voy a traer si resulta que soy gay? 🫢
@@banafanafofana6914L'homosexuel.
As a Mexican, agreed. My mom's light, my dad's dark, I'm brown, and the amount of times I've had family joke and make fun of how dark I am is ridiculous. Even my dad will be biased towards lighter skin tones and it's like, "how are you darker than I am and think you have room to talk?" You get used to it 🙃
She's black lol I have a feeling there's no surprise there
I'm half Puerto Rican & half Italian, and from NJ.
You’ll love drag grwm then!
Maybe it's because I have not been brainwashed by a colorist environment. But white Lorenzo and Black Lorenzo are not that different in terms of attractiveness. They both look like fairly average men in their early 40s? Black Lorenzo is kinda short but besides that, there's not much difference.
Listen, after knowing Dominicans, hearing Dominicans talk about Haitians as a Haitian, this does not shock me
NOT THIS BEING YOUR FIRST DOMINICAN MOVIE😭😭😭 they ain't that good most of the time but still🤣🇩🇴❤️
i love you, but your wig jump scared me twice within one minute
"I love makeup. It's such a fun way to lie." 😂👏 YES.
💕 Kennie ty for fixing my depression.
omg when you said you're mic's audio was off the first time and that you had to film again after 2 hours, a certain pain trickled in me.
(. _ . )
So sorry Kennie!! I feel the annoyance through the screen (T 0 T)
Here I was wondering why this Saturday didn’t feel like a Saturday….but here you are! Uploading in the middle of the night (german time) and making sure I get my weekly dose of bad movies
Oh hey, same :D komme grade von einer längeren Autofahrt nach Hause und sehe den Upload 😊
This was right on time. I was hoping I could watch while eating dinner. 🤩
Your ear piercings are so pretty, they suit you so well 🫶🫶
Kennie: It's a Dominican Movie
Me: Yay, feels represented
Kennie: Starts to describe
Me: Don't know what else I expected
I loved watching you apply your wig. It's a fascinating process. (My own experience is mostly "Party City quality, yanking on a cheap wig cap, and plopping the wig on" lack of attention.) And wow, foreign movies remind me how xenocentric I've been raised as an American.
you doing a bm&ab of a dominican movies was NOT something i expected lmfaooo
Ive never been this early. Didnt even watch the video yet 😋
I am so embarrassed for my people 😭😭
I say upload that video and record a commentary track
Not seen often in America but like I said- you can find it.
this is exactly what i needed after a stressful day of customer service work.
4:23 “the artist formerly known as Twitter” I might have to steal that one 😂 bc I’m never calling it X!
Im begging you to watch a bad movie from Brazil, i dont have reccomendations but there are popular bad movies, please, you need to watch one of them
Ever job is a job is so real🎉
At first when I saw the title I was confused because ugly half the day and handsome the other half just reminded me of the manhwa lookism which has basically that premise when the treatment of the character varies based on if his body is currently ugly or handsome but then I started watching the video and saw the synopsis ugly(black) by day handsome(white) by night which I was like OH
Honestly though I feel that the black by day white by night could work as an interesting exploration into race even perhaps as an allegory for being biracial. But that’s kind of only if people making the movie knew what they were doing to not make it racist 😅
Sooooo race swap version of The Nutty Professor?
This man made SO MANY Dominican movies, Sanky Panky like that is a Classic. It’s about resort workers trying to get older white women to marry them for green cards
