It’s hard for younger people to understand just how great and how big the Beatles really were. The music is timeless and we’ll never see the likes of them again.
the photograph isnt historic cause of the photograph, its cause the beatles are iconic, they could have taken another totally different photograph and it would be still iconic, the setting doesnt really matter.
Greatest Band of all time. No one even close. So many memories. They set the standard, did things that were not done before. Changed music. Showed things that no one had ever seen. He does look like he's in his forties and he looks so thin, maybe the stress of being the main man in The Beatles finally caught up with him even though he was always so confident in public perhaps he was different in private... who knows?
Let’s talk about that remarkable LP cover photograph. It was simplicity itself - go outside the recording studio and traverse the crosswalk a few times. Okay, so traffic had to be halted briefly, but the out-take photos reveal there were no hordes of assistants, press handlers, light reflectors, camera equipment.....no towing in a VW Beetle to get the 28IF “clue” into the shot. Just four of the most famous people on earth, a few bystanders, and after a short time (30, 40 minutes?) one of the most iconic images of all time was captured on a roll of film. Marvelous.
It took only 10 minutes -- photographer Iain Macmillan shot six versions, all of which are included in this video. Paul selected the best one, which has become one of the most famous images of all time. It is the only album cover that does not list either the performers or the album title on the front.. In his book "Here, There and Everywhere," EMI sound engineer Geoff Emerick, who worked on many of the Beatles' recordings, claims that the album was originally intended to be called "Everest," and that the Beatles were planning to travel to Tibet to be photographed with the mountain in the background. (Pre-Photoshop days!) But there were disagreements about making the trip, particularly from Ringo, who reportedly suggested "Why don't we just get photographed in front of this building and call the album "Abbey Road?" It's an amusing story, but take it with a grain of salt -- the factual accuracy of some of Emerick's tales has been questioned.
Wow all these years later and the Beatles are the only band that can bring me to tears with the beauty of their music. In my opinion the Beatles might be the greatest thing to ever happen in terms of happiness spread to so many people all over the world regardless of time.
Any car with that same make, model, and colour is probably hot shit in a Champaign glass for being a vintage vehicle, let alone being in Abbey fuckin Road
Hunter of Liars - has it changed very much from the famous album photos we've all seen? Is there any group that tries to preserve these "Beatle" areas for fans of the future?
It's nice to be a londoner, yes, especially if the Beatles come from here. I have crossed on foot that pedestrian crossing several times but mostly drive in either direction passing Abbey Rd studios either on the right or on the left depending whether I am going to work or going back home at the end of the day. The graffiti on the wall is immense. They paint it white all the time every few months to cover the graffiti but within months it's all back again..
I got to visit this place last year. Adds so much when you then see the pictures of them getting ready to do the walk. Visiting here was a dream come true for me. To think....they were right THERE!
I went to Abbey Road studios a number of years ago and also drove up to Liverpool and went to John's boyhood home, the most jaw dropping thing was walking about three houses down to the end of his block turning right and down about 300 feet on the right side are the red gates of Strawberry field.
gdholmfirth I visited there in 2015 and you are absolutely right when you see the pics. Was there a guy still there telling which direction they walked.

Found out a few weeks after we got home Paul and Ringo were at Abbey Road doing a promo for Eight Days a week movie and went out on the road and talked to some fans.......shit!.. missed that one.
Hal - you've nailed my thoughts exactly, There's good very good, excellent, then we move to iconic . There's a special category I call 'beyond iconic'. IN that category: Armstrong stepping onto the Moon shot, signing of VJ surrender on the Missouri, MLK giving his 'I have a dream' speech. And this photo says it all. It lacks all the pretention of the Sgt Pepper and Revolver covers, which like the first two movies were first in black and white and then in colour. The photo is really a very simple idea - and it simply says it all.
