@@zachscott8795 not sure you're right there. If you want a wacky idea from a non entitity company to make any money then you need initial take up. But no one will pay top dollar for something that is so different that they may genuinely reject after one putt. Unless they get it in all the stores so you can try before you buy, which they havent and wont, so it's got to be priced at a level where enough people will take a punt on it because its cheap. Or maybe soooo exepnsive that the tiny number of sales will be enough to make it work. But its not that either. Could be just getting their name out there with a wacky idea of course, but the comment was about price point, not brand awareness, and the asking price would not effect this anyway so its not a relevant argument. Or do you have inside knowledge of their production costs and anticipated ROCE?

Decent Angle I do. I have an undergrad degree and currently getting my masters. It’s actually a much smarter idea to start at a lower price point and adjust up from there. This is much more effective when your product has multiple substitutes such as with the flooded golf club market. Could it still catch on at 249? Maybe, but not without multiple pro golfers supporting it.

    • @mikestobbart5174

I remember Bob Charles, HOF golfer, giving a putting tip in the mid ‘60s that kind of described this method - stand a bit further away, use a putter with a wide flat grip, and rotate the shoulders using mini regular golf swing. It produces a flatter stroke, but watching you use this putter reminded me of that. Broke par for the first time using that method and my old BullsEye. Interesting!

I had an Elmer 2 which had an adjustable shaft angle. I'm 6'3" so the plan was to have it very straight up and down but after trial and error I set it very flat, like this new putter, and it worked unbelievably well. It definitely improved the strike and roll even though it looked and felt odd with it way out in front of me. I think the quality of the strike offset the alignment problem and I use lines on the ball anyway. (as should everyone). Now I have a more traditional Ping but when I'm struggling I'll push it out to find that solid strike. I think they'll sell! Cheers for the awesome vids Rick. :)

I love "Innovations' and manufacturers trying to break the mold.
I sort of recall Chi Chi using a similar, extra-long putter, but used it in a similar 'traditional' manner (as opposed to broomstick-style).
This makes sense in the way that 'putting' with the FGX is similar to a full (or at least chipping), big muscle stroke, the stroke that you use on the other 1/2 of the shots we take. . .instead of what we do now where the on-the-green stroke technique is way-way different than all the strokes it took us to get there. Golf is 2 games that way. . .
Manufacturers sold us on the chipping technique of using a hybrid to putt around the green, so why not use similar technique on the green?

That totally makes sense.Really, the putter stance is really the only different stance we use. I mean yes, we place the ball in different positions depending on the club used, but the stance is really quite similar. I've seen people putt with their feet together, their body in a completely different position like hunched over, or standing taller. But with this putter, you just stand like you would for any club. Way cool!

When my handicap was it's lowest (+1) I was putting with an open stance, eyes further away and toe up a little. Severe toe swing arc. I genuinely holed more putts then. I hit more solid putts (more missed putts lipped out) and I feel like my speed and contact were better. This was also before every ball had alignment lines on them and you never saw people mark their ball and line it up. I'd bet there is something to this, especially for those who have trouble with it "looking right" at address. I'm still training my eyes to use and trust the alignment lines

Took ages to get comfortable with it, but my putting is miles better now.

    Hi Rick,
Interesting video, I feel like you might have missed one really essential element to this putter! I was extremely critical of the Taylormade Truss putters and their marketing about stability on off-center strikes. From a physics standpoint, it was garbage. But, these guys have actually undersold some hidden value in this putter: If you consider the shaft axis to be the axis of rotation, lets call it "Z axis" then three parameters come into play on every strike, the strike location relative to the rotational axis, the moment of inertia, and the striking force. Let's assume that the putt force is constant (we've swung with the same force, regardless of where on the face we've struck it).
Recognize this: the putter is a flat, wide shape. When the shaft is more perpendicular to the longer putter dimension (width) or"upright" more of the putter head material is further away from the shaft axis. This might be hard to picture, but imagine the opposite extreme, where the putter shaft had a 0 degree lie angle, stuck into the side instead of the top and ran parallel to the bottom of the putter head. Now it's easy to see how much of the putter face would be close to the shaft axis as the shaft runs right across the whole face! Whatever lie angle you have results in more or less putter head material at a shorter or longer normal distance from the axis of rotation!
What does this mean? Well, the brief summary is that not only will a flatter lie angle increase your MOI, but critically, it reduces the normal distance between most strike locations and the rotational axis! This should be an exceptionally stable putter on right or left mishits. The only drawback is that as the lie angle gets flatter, misses high or low on the face will matter much more, so vertical strike location becomes more important to consider!

Headcover - like the video and although you said it would arc more, the face opening and closing would actually be less as the radius of the arc would be increased. So for the same length stroke the face would be opening and closing less. Interesting concept!

Interesting concept, with practice some people might actually prefer this. Looking forward to spotting this out on the golf course.

Funniest thing is that I've been practicing putts with my TaylorMade SIM rescue all week to add a shot type around the greens.
I would think the logic is sound tbh. I'm straight as you like with my hybrid.
'head cover' for the win 😃

If you don't win the free putter mate buy one. It's the best thing I have bought in ages. Absolutely brilliant, does take some getting used to but you've already been practicing lol

I think this would be the case with anything. As long as you use it and practice with it you would get the hang of it. I'm also not one to trust one result of one test saying this is the best way to putt. I would definitely try it out at a store just to see, but I see no reason in changing up what works. Thanks for the great videos!

It is not Strange at all in many ways. I have always been more comfortable setting up for a chip than a put. Eyes over the ball and all of that never has felt 100% natural.
Awesome! I might try it 👍🏼

Have to admit it looks interesting, but I can also see these putters in the golf bins at Goodwill in a few years. But if I see it with an RS putter head cover, I will definitely buy the head cover for sure.

Looks interesting! My pro has always recommended eyes above the ball as you said, so I’m sceptical about this putter! But definitely interesting.

Loving watching the videos Rick. I used to play off 5 ten years ago before giving the game up because I had a son and wanted to dedicate all my time to him. I’m now falling in love with golf again, and your content is playing a big part of that .. I’m practising like crazy, haven’t played a round yet but can’t wait until I can. In the meantime I’ll be binging on your video content and catching up on your podcast .. I’m up to episode 12. Keep up the great work.

This video portrays so well why innovations in these kinds of sports have such a hard time to break through.
"Oh, I can't argue with the numbers. There is something to this that can actually be better than conventional putters and techniques Might just take a small bit of getting used to.... Buuuuut, I'm still gonna go on using my old one."

Hi Rick! Keen to see a bit of a head-to-head with your own putter on the course. Then also, quite keen to find out how you found distance control on this putter?

Sometimes I'll putt with driver or 3 wood. And I'm amazed how well I do. Takes pressure off the lower back too. This might be a back saver.

Look at Bryson all his clubs are same length as a 7 iron he's does quite well so they could be on to something. Another life saving video from Rick at this time of lockdown Cheers Rick 👍

I love the concept, makes sense to me. I use a center shafted Putter and always forward press before starting my stroke. I believe it helps de-loft the putter and put the ball in a roll earlier.
    Just one mans opinion...

It is a bit of a WTF moment, but that was what was said about broomhandle putters at first, or one length irons. I even saw an old photo of a pro with the yips using an 18 inch long putter. Good video!

  • @Stoplock1931
    @Stoplock1931 4 года назад

With recommendations of using a hybrid with a putting stroke from just off the green for more accurate chip and runs I can see how this is similar without the loft. I don't feel that comfortable using a hybrid just off the green so probably not for me but if one of the big boys were doing it a few people I know would be giving it a try. Great video as always.
