  • Using a brake caliper piston wind back tool kit. This handy tool kit has left-handed and right-handed threaded tools and drive keys that fit almost any vehicle with front or rear disc brakes. Note I actually used the wrong key in this video, I should have used the 'stepped key' marked with the number 3. That key sits into the piston and does not rotate as the piston is being pushed in. Here's a link to an updated video showing how to retract both front and rear caliper pistons: • Universal Brake Calipe...

For front brakes that just require pushing it, there is an adapter on the right side of the case that rotates so you do not grind against the piston.

Usually only a C-clamp pushes back the hydraulic cylinder, A L T H O U G H, on Nissan Altima, the rear disk brakes needed this screwing in motion whilst turning to push the cylindar back. I never would have guessed the secret to push back the cylinder without a good video such as this. Ran, not walked to the Harbor Freight and bought this tool and it worked.

The proper adapter to use for this type of caliper would be the #3 adapter. The #3 adapter does not spin on the caliper piston which could cause it to crack or chip the piston. It also puts less wear on the tool, the caliper and the user.

If you are in doubt about getting the 18 or 21 just go for the 18. It doesn't worth the extra money, and anyway you will be using only 3 plates.

I followed this guide and after 1st caliper I realized something must be wrong, with that many adapters we should not rub against the caliper itself..
The correct adapter for hollow calipers like shown on video is visible at 1:19 just under right hand.
It’s a few layers of different diameter solid circles. This stays inside caliper without spinning, while you spin 2nd adapter inside that one. Sounds maybe more complex that it is..

You can't just push in a rear piston on a caliper (you can on front caliper) as there is a threaded rod connected to the piston that the handbrake uses to twist the piston against the disc (mechanical and electric handbrakes). If you force the piston in, you could strip the thread etc. The piston must be turned in rather than pushed, hence the kit with all the different diameter bits with lugs on that locate in the piston to turn it.
