- Hi guys. This one is a downer video.
The brand NEW Chanel classic flap that I purchased right before the recent price increase, has ... *GASP*... a defect!!!! That's right. You'll see what I mean in the video.
Sadly, I will be taking the bag back to the Chanel flagship store where I bought it here in NYC. I don't know if I will ask for a refund or an exchange at this point. I'm conflicted and would love your advice in the comments section below, please~

Needless to say, I am super bummed to be returning my new Chanel bag... 😔. But in my mind, it’s better not to own the bag at all than to own one that has a defect/imperfection, especially as I paid full price for it. Do you agree? Pls let me know what you think in the comments below~
hello catwalk city me too! It need to be perfect! I’ve been kept checking 3-4 jumbos n they have some problems either a couple threads out or the bottom is not flat enough smh so disappointed

Yes! I 100% agree! You paid over $6000 for this bag and it is expected to be perfect! I recently bought the new model WOC in black caviar a few days before Nov 1 price increase. I was hoping mine had a increase too but mine stayed the same! I also heard first that the medium classic was going up to $6200 and it almost made me want to buy it now before I can never afford it! I am relieved that it was $200 increase rather than $600 increase. Maybe I can save this year and get it before the next increase! Anyway, you definitely did the right thing returning the bag and I also agree with you that made in France is always better. I know for sure at least with LV items! Good luck!
hello catwalk city I agree about returning it and they should put you first on the list for a replacement! I have the bucket bag with the leather on the drawstring that’s was worn and it’s being repaired but now this month long wait makes me think if I should keep it. It’s a bucket bag that I want in my Chanel collection but it’s pains me that they tried to sale me one with such defects. I’m conflicted too 🤦🏽♀️ so I hear and feel you on this topic.

You can exchange it with a new one. However, I am regret to say that the quality of Chanel doesn’t keep up with its price increasing every year.

I don’t blame you! The bag should be in pristine condition. I have the exact same bag which I purchased back in 2018. The bag is now $10,000 and I’m sure another increase will emerge soon.
I can't justify spending that kind of money on a bag no matter how good the condition or design. Yes, they are beautiful bags but it's branding that you're paying for and the experience I suppose. All that hard earned money can buy you so much. At the end of the day it's just a purse. I love, love, love handbags though. 😍
I’m so sorry this happened to you. 😢 This is exactly why I think their price increases every year is not warranted! If you have any hesitation I would get a refund and wait till Paris if you foresee going. It is such a big purchase and the minute you walk out with the bag, you will lose money when you try to resell. Chanel is only an investment if you hang on to it for years. Still it is an amazing bag so if you go for an exchange you got the old price and I am sure you will absolutely love it! No wrong answer! 😊 Good luck and definitely update us! ❤️❤️❤️

I would definitely go the pre loved route and save money...I purchased a preloved jumbo double flap and it was perfection.

Get it in Europe. I am getting mine in Budapest. Once you get the VAT back, the price is the same as a pre-loved one.

i read somewhere if you cant buy an item twice and not have worry or regret about the price you cant afford it. That's saved me the trouble of buyers remorse where i try to fund a reason to return things.

If this was a regular bag, I would’ve said “Get over it”, but this is a Chanel. There can’t be a defect.
That could be easily repaired if you like everything else about the bag. It’s not a defect as such because everything looks great apart from that

Geez I had that happen to me on one of my Chanel cardholders it was actually a loose thread that was frayed. I luckily got to exchange it. I have had to go back to my boutique several time this year because of weird instances like dry cracked leather on a boy bag, uneven stitches, etc. I recent got the same bag too! I’ll have to take a magnifying glass to it now before the 14 days are up!

I have a few chanel bags from my mom and one I bought on my own. Honestly the bags from my mom have way better quality than the one I bought. Chanel definitely doesn't have the same quality as much as it used to. My saint laurent and Celine bags have way better quality than my chanel bag.

I agree. I been watching RUclips videos on Chanel boy bag and I do notice the difference between made in Italy vs made in France for the boy bag. Bags made in Italy seem to be a lot more narrow whereas the ones made in France look more wider inside the bag.
The qualities are bad at Chanel! I purchased a jumbo before the price up but I end up returned due to the bag leaning forward and they all made in Italy! I end up purchased the reissue 225 made in France it was perfect Beautiful

Luckily i bought most Chanel bags back in the day or got some from my mom, quality really went down after 2010.. personally i stopped buying Chanel bags, because quality simply doesn't justify the price

A Chanel, indeed with the price tag of those Chanel’s you must get what you expect. It’s beautiful but I do a lot of sewing, the only way to treat it so you won’t see it the snag is clip it but then the DANGER in that is in years time it will unravel the threads. Then it becomes major.
Yes, return it and inspect your new one (from now on because Chanel is becoming sloppy and prices are raising - not fair)
You can bring it to any Chanel store and they would fix it for you.
Same issue with mine! I bought it last year and noticed it after few months. I sent it out for a repair at a boutique but it’s not perfect so sent it back. So disappointing. I would return it for a full refund.

hello catwalk city unfortunately it was too late to return it when I saw the flaw. It was in 2,3 places when I inspected it closely.. it’s so disappointing for $6000 bag. Now Im here looking for 19flap small lol. The shopping continues😂.
Hope they will give me a store credit or exchange it for the perfect one. I love the medium but now I’m so bummed. A side note mine was made in 🇮🇹 Italy also☹️. Which I didn’t mind but now I do!

I happened to watch this video few days ago and I just picked up my classic flap from the boutique today. I checked for this issue as I learned that it could be one of the defects. Everything looked fine in the boutique but now when I examined the bag properly again, I found exactly the same defect on the Mona Lisa smile pocket at the back😭

An update.. I have brought the bag back to the boutique and all the medium classics have become unavailable again so there's no other bags to swap to unless I wanted to be back on the waiting game again. However, they tightened that loose stitch and now all the thread is tight and I can't see any hole/gap anymore. They said there's a 5 year warranty so I can bring the bag back in anytime if there's something that comes up. 🙂

I had the same problem in paris. So I only noticed in my hotel room at night and exchanged next morning. The cambon store manager was very arrogant and somewhat appeared to be suspicious of me why i didnt notice the day i purchased the item! Chanel quality sucks! How dare they increase the prices !

I hate to say it, but after you use the bag, most likely at some point you will see a popped stitch.

I had two popped stitches on my classic flap about eight months after buying it. I took it in and they repaired for free and were very gracious about it. That being said, I have two classic flaps but I won’t buy another. I don’t think they are worth the price. They are beautiful but delicate.
I owe 4 authentic Chanels. Significant decline in quality with my last two with significant increase in price. I am done. No more high end bag purchases- not good investments and I want to create wealth not spend on things, also want to spend on experiences and not things anymore. Just tired of the greed.

Same as mine.I just bought a chanel woc in caviar leather GHW and returned it because the magnetic closure has a gap on the flap and then they gave me a new one and when I get home,I see a stitch sticking out on the flap.So stress now because it is Dec 31,2019 and was about to exchange or return it but my husband is having a stress because of me keeps exchanging it.For me,For the price of chanel woc now?I’m expecting a good quality😪

I have the older WOC and I love it but I noticed the newer model has magnetic closure which I thought was better bc it makes it easier to close the flap without looking but what a shame about the quality issues!!! I am only purchasing preloved from now on bc the older ones definitely seem to have higher quality and are better constructed. I’m sorry dear - I hope this doesn’t stress you out too much and you find the perfect one!!

DCFAM Oh no. I’m getting stressed hearing your story. It’s too similar to my experience. I had to return TWO Chanel classic flaps. Have you seen my other videos? It was such a unpleasant experience. Both bags had quality issues. I’m in New York and fortunately they give full refunds within 30 days. I didn’t know in Canada they only give exchanges 😩. Still, I think you need to keep going back until you get the perfect one that you’re happy with!! Don’t give up and don’t let the SAs attitudes stop you. I don’t know why they’re so rude - it’s so contrary to the expectations of what a luxury brand should offer. Good luck dear and do let me know when/if you find your perfect one!! I finally found “the one” in a vintage lambskin from Fashionphile and I’m so happy. I will only buy preloved now because I don’t want to deal with SAs and the quality is much better on the older bags.
Yes on Jan 2,2019 I will defenitely go back to chanel yorkdale store and return it.I might go to the other chanel store in bloor st(yorkville) and the one in holts.It’s my 3rd time of buying chanel bags and this is the worst😢

UMMMM That's unacceptable! Even my cheaper Tory Burch fleming bags don't have quality issues like this. The bag is 6k for a reason, it should be flawless.

I hope you returned it without problem. The quilting on the flap doesn't align with the quilting on the body. It does on the left side but not on the right

Wow that sucks! Definitely exchange or return it! I noticed Chanel’s quality is not so high end and not the best. I usually like to check my bags before I buy and I don’t like when the SA rushes me to buy it and box it right away. But I gave up on Chanel and LV too :/ not worth it anymore

it’s a quality issue, a bag going for 6000 usd shouldn’t have these kind of flaws.
Chanel needs to hire a whole new Quality control team outside source to catch this bs
Actually, Italian bags are better than French in general. This could have easily happen during shipping, or storage. If so, it only reflects the quality.
