Whoever says the Yom Kippur War was a military victory for the Arabs is delusional. The 3rd Army was encircled and only not attacked because the USA forbid Israel to rout it. They wanted to use their intervention to get more influence on Egypt back from the Soviets. Syria had no offensive power any more and at the day the ceasefire came into effect the initiative was still with the IDF on the Egypt front, only a matter of time until the 2nd Army would have been isolated east of the Suez Canal as well. The SAM shield was not intact any more either so the air force would have pounded 2nd and 3rd Army as well. Casualty rates were much higher on the Arab side, both men and material. Plus Israel held more land west of Suez than Egypt held east of it.How is that a military victory for Egypt? Politically though it put Egypt in a stronger position to negotiate as Israel saw that it was a force to recon with and it finally opened the door to proper peace negotiations, the acceptance of the State of Israel for the occupied territories back. That peace has now lasted for 40 years and benefited both sides. It wasn't a one sided ass kicking, Egypt won a couple of skirmishes both at the beginning and the end of the war, but if the war had lasted longer I don't think the armies that crossed the Suez would have survived. It might have taken a few years and the ceasefire was fragile, but sparing 3rd army and giving Sinai back produced peace and saved many lives. That Sadat is still seen as a traitor for making peace with Israel and how these trolls on here claim that Israel was defeated shows how full of shit some people are.

More or less Egypt won a battel, but Israel won the previously planned aim! "confetion of existence", the question now, what if Israel's victory was just another battel?! " the confetion " that took around 35 years from 1948 till 1973 to achieve it.
who knows how long it could take Egypt for a future win!.... Think of it!

What this documentary failed to mention was that Kissinger told Meir that if Israel struck first, it would not receive "a single nail" in U.S. military aid. Kissinger commented to others that "Israel needed to bleed a bit" so that it would be more amenable to peace talks.
In addition, Meir's Minister of Defense, Moshe Dayan had an emotional breakdown when Israel started to lose the war, "Everything that I told you was wrong!" and that "It was the falling of The Third Temple!" Meir, determined not be taken alive, ordered cyanide capsules from the army in the event of defeat. She kept "the Great Dayan" on so as not to demoralize the Israeli public, but he was of no use to her. She was on her own. All the while she was dying of leukemia.

Remember, US weapons were supplied to Israel, but so was South Vietnam, of the 2, Saigon became Ho Chi Minh City even with US troops bleeding in Vietnam, it was sheer military competence and prowess that won Israel the war even though the odds were stacked heavily against their favour.

Vietnam was another story. US had minimal casualties compared to Vietnamese personel backed uo by China and supplied by Russia. Think it was 1M dead enemy combatants vs the 60k the US lost.
In the end the US fought with one hand tied behind their back by politicians who started the war with out any path for victory and the SV ally unwilling to fight and backstabbing their only ally.

One thing that is being overlooked by all the comments below and by the documentary itself, is that the two superpowers, USSR and USA, wanted to see how this war went. It would be an excellent "test" of their technology. Each power had supplied one of the combatants with not only weapons but training and tactical doctrine.
I'd say that after this war, the Soviet Union "took stock" at how their weapons and tactics had performed and looked to do better. I'd say that USA looked at Israeli successes and used that information. I'd say also the Sagger missiles and SAM batteries, their radar frequencies, range, upper altitude, etc. were a treasure trove of information. I wonder how much money the CIA paid Israel for captured Soviet-built weapons.....

43 short years & 43 long pounds ago while serving in the 82nd Abn. Div. it was during the latter part of that october... that my company was pulled out of the field while on a training mission named operation "solid shield" and was boarded onto C-130's, where the mission was renamed operation "super quick." once airborne we chuted up during flight... which we had never done before. we were obviously in route to, or for russian intelligence sake, appeared to be in route to, the suez area of conflict. after about 2 hours in the air... our mission operation name had changed for yet a third time within a 12 hr period. this new mission name was operation "exotic dancers."
but instead of returning to ft. bragg, and it's soft sandy sicily drop zone... we ended up jumping in 20 mph. winds, and right into north carolina's marine corps. catfish drop zone, at camp lejeune. it was a series of cross canals where the river spilled out into the ocean. "exotic dancers" were we indeed, while trying to avoid the many stumps and waist deep channels of water for the lesser knee deep flatter areas. in the book the "yom kippur war" by simon dunstan, it is said the sr-71 blackbird having passed through the suez canal zone, prompted brezhnev into saying... "why start ww3?" i'm proud to have been at least that amount of help to the israelis. for is not john. 4:22 the truth of their being? -former sgt. 82nd abn. div. 1/504 71-74 12-29-15

Wars usually have an outright winner, but I don't think this is the case here. You can make the point that Israel won since the Egyptian 3rd army was surrounded and Israel had crossed the canal, but then again Israel couldn't deliver food and supplies to it's people through the canal any more. Although the Egyptian 3rd army was surrounded, there were still over 900 tanks and 100,000 soldiers in the 1st and 2nd army, which matched if not outnumbered Israel. Israel also ignored the ceasefire and continued taking more land in Sinai. Both signed a peace treaty because BOTH would take massive losses if the war continued.
At the start of the war Israel had all of Sinai, by the end it had none. Egypt got back all of it's land, Israel lost an oil-rich strategic position as well as the most important trade canal in the world, so I'd say Egypt won this one, with no question.

Sure they can win with brute force and numbers but ordering everyone to attack Stalingrad when even your own officers are telling you are walking into a trap well that is how stupidity can destroy the best of armies
And threatening your own allies, using tarrifs against your allies when trying to win a trade war is the best way to kill your own economy because your allies are not slaves they will retalliate but if you though trump could get any worse... Well you'd be wrong because the moment pandemic hit, not only did he abandon his allies but he started stealing resources from his allies! Things in Italy got so bad they had to rely on an enemy power (Russia) to help them!!! Good job Trump if your goal was to destroy NATO well it sure is working... If it wasn't then Trump is a retard!

@Abdulmajeed Nonsense . Hafez al-Assad is a political shrew, and the Israeli army is able to defeat Syria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon. They only needed a little time to sweep Egypt and Syria, but Hafez al-Assad and Gamal Abdel Nasser stopped the war before Israel reached the moment of strength in which it could defeat everyone. Hafez al-Assad knows this

The film doesn't mention to the Israeli defeat in n 24th Oc when they tried to invade Suez City. With a green light from Kissinger, Israeli didn't respect the ceasefire reached few days before . Simply, the reason was that Israeli wanted to buy time so that they can invade and occupy Suez city as a compensation for their failure to isolate the 2nd Army from behind (west bank of SuezCanal). Although they manged to isolate the 3d Army cutting the supplies coming from
Cairo Suez road, they were thoroughly defeated in 24th Oct. When they entered the City , the resistance faced them from within was so fierce and unexpected that they lost about 80 soldiers and some tanks. They retreated and there was no way but to abide by the ceasefire in 25th Oc.
If they seized Suez, then it would ve been the greatest defeat of the Arabs, even more than the 6-day war in1967. Becuz the Israeli would occupy the west bank of the Suez Canal added to that not just threatening Cairo but the the stip pararrel and south to Red Sea.

    • @nurieln
      @nurieln 8 лет назад +9

+Medhat Moustafa They were defeated. Who were they?? one company tried to capture Suez city. Two divisions were rampaging around the Egyptian countryside. The Suez Cairo road was cut and the army was stopped by the UN merely 100 km from Cairo. The 2nd. Army was not surrounded and cut of because Egypt sued for a seize fire that the UN enforced. there was not enough time.

I actually came to the comments to see how many times an Arab would claim victory in a war they lost decisively. I’m thinking of turning it into a drinking game. There are always so many in denial that they keep losing. Hamas thinks they defeated the IDF in Lebanon because the IDF left after totally destroying the offensive positions and turning a large chunk of the infrastructure into rubble. It’s amazing what they consider a win😃
      It’s a good thing they didn’t lose🤣

What kind of monsters will attack a tiny nation on the Holiest of Holy days - Yom Kippur. Do you think the living YHVH of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob sleeps? Isra'el has never attacked another country for gain they are only protecting themselves and YHVH protects them too. They are the blessed people and the apple of YHVH's eye. Don't mess with the Living YHVH. Baruch Hashem, Adonai Yehovah.

Anke Marais These "monsters" just simply wanted their land (Sinai) back. It's been theirs for over 7000 years since ancient Egypt long before Judaism. If somebody walked over to you with a gun in his hand and the torah in the other and told you "god gave me your land, go away", would you really just give up or fight for it? Last time I checked Israel were the first aggressors when they invaded Egypt in 1967 and took Sinai in a surprise attack...

Claws4life Yeah because Nasser (the Egyptian president at the time) had mobilized his arm forces and put them on Israel's border, along with getting the Syrians and the Jordanian to follow suit.
Israel had the choice of waiting till they attacked like the in the 1973 Yom Kippur war or they could surprise and overwhelm the forces of Egypt and knock out their airforce.
1967 is the only time the Israelis have initiated a war on their own, and that time wasn't because they were war mongers it was because Nasser was saying he was going to wipe them off the planet and had put troops at the border to illustrate that point.

Why are you not insisting the USA give back land it stole 300 years ago from the Native Americans killed and imprisoned on reservations.
Why are you not demanding all of Europe return lands taken from the Roman Empire 1500 years ago?
Why are you not protesting all of the Arab nations taken from Turkey's Ottoman empire 100 year ago?
You have a problem with a tiny little nation called Israel. Ignore the big obvious offenses and pick on the little guy... Easily swayed by popular opinion? Bully? Double standards? Mindless follower of Obama?
Be a big boy and fess up. You have a problem with Israel, not with justice.

this video doesnt talk about one of the most important part of the war is the first aircraft attack of egypt which destroyed alot of the israeli bases and command center which forced them to use the second command center ( the farer ) which prove that the egyptian air force with the poor Mig plane defeated the israeli ariforce with stronger planes
    because of the egyptian pilots
second about the Gap the israeli force came from this gap thats a fact but there was an egyptian Reserve force was collected to end this gap from reserve egyptain tanks and other tanks of arab countries came to help the number of the arab tanks was more as well as the egyptain commandos and Infantry soldiers
the gap was so easy to be ended without the Intervention of the usa
the minister of foreign affairs of the usa came to AL Sadat and told him that the usa will not allow this to be happened
so Sadat accepeted to stop the war while we were the Victorious not while we were equal with israel
the egyptian army is always better than the israeli because of our men not the technology
this video is trying to say that the war ended with no victorious and its not true
if we werent victorious why we took back our land again ?? what forces israel to let it and go ?? without the USA egypt and the arabic forces which came to help although it were not alot , were enabled to conqure the arabic lands which u call israel
U must know that the israelies are saying that their land is from the Nile River to Al Forat River So what prevents them to came and take the land they are saying its for them to the Nile ???? because they know that they cant defeat Egypt

so why they came sinai from the begining !! why u built Brleaf line !! ask yourself that question if you need the peace and can reach to it by only talking with your enemy and then kindly you return back his land why dont you do this with the palastinians ??? why you destroy their homes why you kill their childrens ? why you say that you are attacking the fanatical Hamas and u destroy the peoples' homes ??
i know that all of you cant think about that . because they learned you the peace in wrong way you should know that the jewry your grandfathers lived in peace in egypt before your attack on palastinian lands and after that even 1400 years ago they lived in peace under the judgment of Mohamed our prophet
before you write any other comment please read what i replyed in the next post i dont wanna to wriet same things again

The exact quote from the Quran, Sura 5 is " Israelites you are a people of Kings and Prophets, you must take the land of Israel and keep it, if not another people may take it" . This explain why Syria and Egypt did not succeed to defeat Israel. Why this malediction. According to the Quran and the Holy Bible it is forbidden to take the land of Israel from the people of Israel.

David Yshay Orbach i am a muslim and that's true, however if you're gonna quote the Qur'an then you need to know that this is what the Qur'an also says in this matter: "And we decreed for the Children of Israel in the Scripture, that indeed you would do mischief on the earth twice and you will become tyrants and extremely arrogant! So, when the promise came for the first of the two, We sent against you slaves of Ours given to terrible warfare. They entered the very innermost parts of your homes. And it was a promise (completely) fulfilled. Then We gave you once again, a return of victory over them. And We helped you with wealth and children and made you more numerous in manpower. (And We said): 'If you do well, you do good for your ownselves, and if you do evil (you do it) against yourselves'. Then, when the second promise came to pass, (We permitted your enemies) to make your faces sorrowful and to enter the mosque (of Jerusalem) as they had entered it before, and to destroy with utter destruction all that fell in their hands. [And We Said in the Taurat (Torah)]: 'It may be that your Lord may show mercy unto you, but if you return (to sins), We shall return (to Our Punishment). And We have made Hell a prison for the disbelievers" [Qur'an 17:4-8].
"And (remember when your Lord declared that He would certainly keep on sending against them (ie. the Jews), till the Day of Resurrection, those who would afflict them with a humiliating torment. Verily, your Lord is Quick in Retribution (for the disobedient, wicked) and certainly He is Oft-Forgiving (for the obedient and those who beg Allah's Forgiveness)" [Qur'an 7:167].
Now it's up to you to decide whether your people are doing good with God or evil, take alook in your evryday life and see how the children of isreal behave, from that you can guess when the next punishment is going to be fulfilled just like the old days.
And as for Egypt & Sirya they were both communists behind the seens either Gamal abdel nasser or al assad at that time they were'nt Muslims infact much like the leadrs of the children of israel nowdays they are'nt true jews rather zinonists mostly athiests, And this is why Egypt & sirya failed and this is why Israel will be punished if you know what i mean.

+Kanker Joden Explain something!! If you "destroyed" the Israeli army... then who were those who crossed the canal, defeated your third army, destroyed 460 tanks...etc' and managed to get as far as 100 km. from Cairo???? And according to notable historians (Gamal Hammad) the resupply of Egypt included 400 T-62 tanks (state of the art) and 88 MIG 25's... (32 of which were shot down by the IAF during the last days of the war... all of which were taken from Soviet and warsaw pact stores directly.
Golda Meir wanted to committ suicide?? maybe in the Michey Mouse style history books that you get your information from. One who plans to commit suicide does not advertise the fact in news papers....

Kanker Joden England and France wanted to reopen the Suez canal that was nationalized and closed by Nasser - in spite of the fact that it was under British and Franch ownership by force of a 100 year contract that Egypt had signed. Israel wanted the Egyptians out of Sinai in order to reopen the Tiran straights in the gulf of Akaba the Nasser closed in order to strangle Israel's economy. He was no more than a thug.. who asked for war and got a war that humiliated him. No one ever intended on invading Egypt then. Egypt itself bore no relevanve. By capturing Sinai all the objectives of the war were achieved. This is recorded history!!!!!!!

    • @nurieln
      @nurieln 8 лет назад

Kanker Joden Bombing of the Tiran Island??? Israel invaded and captured the Tiran Island in 1967 (not 1956 that we a re dscussing). In 1967, even though Israel made it very clear that closing the Tiran straights (which is international waters) will be considered as an act of war..... Nasser went ahaid and closed it again as he did in 1956. The 1967 war was inevitable.... He was that kind of a fool. You see, with the Suez canal closed to shipping from and to Israel, the Tiran passes was the only commercial vein left. Closing it would choke Israel's commerce and is an act of war.

An important element missing from this documentary is some more preliminary background including the Oil manipulation prior to these events and the weapons embargo implemented on Israel by the US. The heavy Russian resupply of the Syrian and Egyptian armies was not matched by the US until after the successful opening operations of the war by the combined Arab armies. This was when the US M-16 assault rifle became introduced to the IDF.
Without a doubt the initial actions and surprise attacks of Egypt and Syria were effective. The Bar Lev line was manned by only around 450 reserve soldiers. The difference between this war and the previous one in '67 was that the Golan and the Sinai acted as buffer zones to absorb the initial advances of the Arab armies. In '67 there were no buffer zones when Nasser ordered the UN peacekeepers out of the area dividing Egypt and Israel, and the Israeli govt. could not have allowed the initiative to be with Nasser's forces and so took pre-emptive action.
In terms of the bigger picture, the situation is always settled by the bigger actors - the US and the USSR - after the opening gambits have taken their course. In this instance the Land for Peace model proved effective as in lieu of peace agreements, Israel could only secure a response time afforded by the areas of the Sinai and the Golan Heights. The West Bank turned out to be a completely different and more complicated situation, and Jordan decided to remain un-involved this time, after the catastrophes of the '67 adventure.

Wtf !!! USA gave Israel supplies (new tanks and new aircrafts) during the war while we lost a lot of tanks and fighters! And Israel can't even win a war with Hamas in 2014 the idf was useless in front of Hamas... Hamas destroyed a lot of the (merkava) the strongest tank it was also useless in gaza .. Hamas also kidnapped Israeli soldier his name ( shaoul aron) and Israel can't find him until now.....the only reason that Israel still in the Middle East... Because the arab regimes and militaries are allies of the USA...but don't worry the Muslim brothers hood will rule soon and then you can say bye bye Israel.....

      @medhatnaky8222 4 года назад

@I_Alpha1973 _I Simply: The victor is the one who managed to recover his land. Egypt was prepared to sacrifice twice the number of victims of this war to achieve this result. The families of the victims themselves were celebrating crossing the canal before thinking of grief for their sons. And of course, you know that, had it not been for the American intervention, things would have been disastrous for Israel, as opposed to rearmament they were the party that informed Israel of the gap that they passed through to the Egyptian depth. Anyway, had it not been for this war, Israel would have settled today in the Sinai and had the opportunity to realize the rest of its naive dream of reaching the Nile. Another consequence of this war is that Israel is fully convinced that it is not wise to tamper with Egypt specifically unlike other Arab countries because tampering with it is very costy.

The report did not mention the American airlift that was set up to supply Israel on October 14, which caused the loss of 250 Egyptian tanks. The report did not mention why Russia threatened to intervene with its troops in the war. The report did not mention that Sadat decided to bomb the bridge that Israel built to cross into the Suez city and then bomb all the tanks in transit, which made America ready to send its nuclear weapons to bomb Sinai and Cairo in case Sadat took the decision to clear the gap The United States has stopped preparing its nuclear weapons because of Moscow's pressure on Washington to place its long-range nuclear strategic missiles in the direction of Tel Aviv and to say otherwise, a very serious mistake, for the very simple reason that America has put its nuclear weapons on alert The report did not mention the scale of the losses suffered by Israel in the Chinese battle. The report praised only the Egyptian military thought and the wonderful planning of the battle management, but distorted the performance of the Egyptian army on the ground. The report is totally unfair and showed a family Yale at the end of it victorious and since when Israel is victorious in a war or a battle and then give up the territory equal to six times the area to give up her a triumphant report is very distorted, although he tried to use the technology and the quality of the offer, but it is unfair Palmer

Not to mention Israel only wanted peace and to be recognized as a legitimate nation which is what they got from Egypt AND Jordan.
War of 1973 = 1973 (to get their Sinai back)
Sinai returned to Egypt = 1982 (in return for peace and recognition).
