    We noticed a rumbling sound while driving. Obviously it was the wheel bearings so we ended up changing them. This is how we did it. Have you had to change your rear wheel bearings?

    I'm really getting a lot from your videos. My Hymer is a year older than yours and although the body is a different style, all the Fiat parts are identical to yours, so I am getting a lot of ideas. I like the no-nonsense, no jargon way you guys are explaining things too. The best way to learn things is to watch someone who can do it in his sleep. I don't suppose Chas would be available in West Cumbria for a dozen or so jobs on my Hymer?!?! Ha !! All the best, Pete

    Great video
    Annoying when you inspect your own rear brakes and the brake wheel cylinder is leaking happened to me 2 years ago when cleaning and adjusting rear shoes and I only had a day left till mot run out turned into a major rush and my brake shoes the bonding glue had failed and brake linings where lifting off 😂 .I believe the 3 screws on the drum are for winding a 13mm headed bolt into for removing of tight drum when the drum gets a wear lip.another great video ads!

    Nice video, you didn't use the new bearings in the freezer trick. I would get that brake cylinder replaced. We didn't know we had a leaking brake cylinder on the back of our Ducato Motorhome, we headed out of the house for the ferry on a Friday night, the brakes didn't feel right at the exit of our estate, 400mtrs down the road at the T-Junction, no brakes. We live in the country, thankfully it was after 7pm, zero traffic. It was hairy, managed to get back using the handbrake and gears. Missed the ferry, jumped in the car the next morning, off to France. Replaced the wheel bearing a month later on the driveway because I couldn't drive it and didn't fancy paying for towing.

    Compact the grease into the bearings from the side of the bearing before fitting into the race .Never fill the cavity between bearings in the hub like that the grease will hydraulic when hot .

    • @changluo807
      @changluo807 2 года назад

      Exactly. In stead of stuffing the hub full of grease he should have packed the races with grease.

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  4 года назад +1

      Hi Roy, the race should be all the way into the hub. There shouldn't be a gap behind the thick end of the race. On ours the thin end of the race was below the outer most edge of the hub. I hope that makes sense.

    How should I know if my wheels need this? approx. how many miles were on Herman when you needed to do this? Asking bc I may be able to head out soon, but one nagging thing is that my wheels are a bit side to side loose. All of them about the same slight left / right (9 & 3) wobble when jacked up. Mechanic says I should try tightening down that inner nut. Other motorhome folk say that a little wobble is par for the course with the ducato and over tightening can cause damage.
    What say you?

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  Год назад

      We could hear a rumble coming from the rear. You could try tightening the rear hub huts, but don't over tighten. Our wheels don't move.

      @@HermanHitstheRoad ok. i lifted my back wheels at the garage today and yippee they are fine. no movement side to side or up & down. But those front ones.. I guess they may need to be replaced.. some day! I figure they'll work to Morocco. Just 3000km away. A hop & a skip. Nobody around here seems capable of 500 Newton meters of torque.

      @@HermanHitstheRoad turns out that the back wheels are just fine. So it's just the front two that have a bit of a wobble left and right. I'm thinking about buying the parts here and taking it down to Morocco if I could find a good garage there. It's just too cold here and Hungarians are just too grumpy.

  • @carlos76437
    @carlos76437 4 года назад

    Those 3 holes are used to remove the drum. Insert 3 M10 bolts, those bolts will remove the drum by pressing against the hub. No need to hammer or pry the drum.

      The bearings were not packed full of grease. You need to physically, by hand, wedge as much grease as you can into the races rather than putting them in dry and hoping that they will be greased by an overly full hub....
