If you think you're a bad actor:
Just remember Adam pretending to get poisoned

    • @21melpomene
      @21melpomene 4 года назад +37

X'D I always took that as purposely terrible, like the character of Adam is a bad actor (not Leigh Whannell) and can't fake being poisoned. It's still hilarious all the same.

Fan of the franchise but the 1st is one of my all time favorite movies. Not just the movie but the success story behind it. 2 film students fresh out of school get their movie picked up and on a small budget film their movie in less than 3 weeks. They had no time for reshoots, only shot at 1 location, and the entire ending from Zepp entering the bathroom to Jigsaw closing the door on Adam was done in 1 take. James Wan had to get creative in post production and used set photos to help tell the story. Then betting on himself James Wan chose to get a salary based on what the movie made and it ended up being one of the most profitable horror movies ever earning him a big payday and eventually a very successful career. Usually you hear about the creators of small budget successes getting screwed over but the creation of Saw tells a special story.

This film does hold up, assuming you don't already know the twist to it. I mean when it comes down to it, this is more of a "Whodunnit?" than anything, and if you already know who Jigsaw is going into it, while it's still a good movie, it's just not as compelling.

Also, Cary Elwes really kind of fell off the face of the Earth after 1996's "Twister".
The Saw franchise was kind of reaching when they started adapting ideas for traps from literary works like "The Pit & The Pendulum" and "Merchant of Venice" and reaching for people like the late Chester Bennington.
Plus, Tobin Bell kind of fell off the face of the Earth after "The Firm".
Edit: Plus, you can kind of detect subtle hints of Elwes' actual English accent peeking through when Lawrence is furious at Adam; Andrew Lincoln, he is not.

The beauty of the ending is all the scenes being pieced together like jigsaw puzzle pieces. The title of Saw itself is a piece of the puzzle. The title was an intentional mislead, thinking it’s something revolving around Saw, but really just a piece of the puzzle

I’d add Michael Emerson to the highlight of actors. The scene where he’s essentially torturing Diana and Allison with the gun is very disturbing and he does it without speaking one word. It’s no wonder everyone thought he was the killer, the glee he seems to take in torturing Allison and Diana is something I wish the film would have explored a bit more. This was the first acting role I saw him in and was very excited to see him join the cast of Lost where he plays probably one of my favorite antagonists of all time. He’s an actor I always enjoy watching.

Something I find funny is the Adam fanboys that ignore Amanda suffocating him in the bathroom in a Saw III flashback and insist he's still alive. Even his corpse being in the bathroom in Saw II and Saw 7 won't persuade them otherwise. They say "Oh that's someone else and he's alive somewhere" even though it's clearly Adam who is dead.

Dont feel bad about the hipster thing.
I think it's better to view popular things(from our current era) in the future with hindsight 20/20.
I thinks it better to view something without media and fan hype. Also without all the negative press as well.
For example everyone compares High Tension to Martyrs. When I watched Martyrs I instantly wanted to watch High Tension.
I didn't like it because Martyrs is such a crazy and unique movie and I was expecting that.
Now I watched it later and it's not a bad movie by itself. Not good, not bad, but I wasn't mad at the movie anymore.

The effects of violent movies on children vary massively. This is evident in numerous occasions. Firstly, it is notable that children who spend a most of their times watching violent movies develop some unwarranted aggressions in their behaviors. The need to imitate major actors and scenes watched in the concerned movies has adverse influences in these children. Studies have demonstrated increased aggression among the concerned children with some of them attempting to behave violently on several occasions...Notably, violent movies front adverse effect on children with respect to emotional growth and other characterizing factors. Since children are still growing mentally and the kind of information and scenes they impart in their brain matters a lot, violent movies are quite inappropriate in this context.
