I don’t think you understand how copycat works lmao. Or it’s just a very weird mechanic since you aren’t targeting a dark type with a status move lol. I just saw some of the clips. Never expected that lol. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t like that before gen 9 maybe they changed it to avoid copy cat dig shenanigans
I remember on this PC battle simulator, during the gen 3 era, I ran a team of 6 gengars and they all used Explosion, at best, each gengar would KO two pokemon each, giving me a two to one advantage within two turns. They were able to outrun almost everything, they were immune to each other's explosion, and despite their low attack, was able to KO a decent number of Pokémon. Good times. Fittingly, it was also because of this program I learned about RUclips.
Back then, Explosion was much stronger, as until Gen 5 (i believe) it and Self-Destruct were halving opponent's Defense upon calculating damage. It's like it had 500 BP instead of 250
Might be weird but you can also put a sylveon w/ pixelate to Make the explosion fairy type to prevent Ghost from surviving! Granted it's a lot harder to keep a Sylveon alive though.
You can knock out ghost types with soak. My supersoaker team ensures that all pokemon are converted to water typing so I can super-effectively drain their health to stay on top with gigadrain or wipe the floor with them with thunderbolt/wildcharge. :D

It’s copying the effects of explosion but not necessarily the category of move (even though explosion would still be hitting based upon physical damage. The issue is that if a Pokémon does 50% to you in one turn, you’re not reaching that threshold, additionally after you regain your health at 25% you’re gonna only have 58% which leaves your Pokémon still only barely above 50% where as if you get knocked down to 25% in one turn you recover and you’re at 50%.
