The tomato (see pronunciation) is the edible, red fruit of Solanum lycopersicum, commonly known as a tomato plant, which belongs to the nightshade family, Solanaceae. The species originated in Central and South America. The Nahuatl (Aztec language) word tomatl gave rise to the Spanish word "tomate", from which the English word tomato originates.
Numerous varieties of tomato are widely grown in temperate climates across the world, with greenhouses allowing its production throughout the year and in cooler areas. The plants typically grow to 1-3 meters (3-10 ft) in height and have a weak stem that often sprawls over the ground and vines over other plants. It is a perennial in its native habitat, and grown as an annual in temperate climates. An average common tomato weighs approximately 100 grams (4 oz).
Its use as a food originated in Mexico, and spread throughout the world following the Spanish colonization of the Americas. Tomato is consumed in diverse ways, including raw, as an ingredient in many dishes, sauces, salads, and drinks. While tomatoes are botanically berry-type fruits, they are considered culinary vegetables, being ingredients of savory meals.
    Derivations
The Italian word, pomodoro (from pomo d'oro "apple of gold") was borrowed into Polish, and via Russian, into several other languages. Similarly, the now rare German term Paradeisapfel, which means "apple of paradise", is still heard in the form paradeiser in the Bavarian and Austrian dialects, and was borrowed into modern Hungarian, Slovenian and Serbian. Tomato plants are dicots, and grow as a series of branching stems, with a terminal bud at the tip that does the actual growing. When that tip eventually stops growing, whether because of pruning or flowering, lateral buds take over and grow into other, fully functional, vines.

Thanks for this video! I'm growing these this year. Very helpful to know that the tops turn yellow when they're properly ripe! So thank you!!!

Update, this tomato is crazy. I was tiered of picking them. The taste is ok , not fantastic or bad. They make great dried tomatoes for adding to sauce. I will grow them again .

Do you like Sun Gold or this more? I enjoy Sun Gold quite a bit and already have Super Sweet 100s which are quite sweet and barely acidic.

I’m growing Barry’s Crazy Cherry this year.
With the huge yield, did you make any sauce???
The colour would make an interesting tomato sauce - I’m hoping to add some home grown Bird’s Eye chillies.
    Great review!

I made some sauce with it. The seeds are so small that a lot of them get through the food mill, which ads a bitterness to the sauce that I'm on the fence about.
