    Had Rachel gone to a lawyer before telling detectives about the backpack, she might have been able to strike a deal. It's the innocent mind that never thinks to do that.

I wonder if you considered Chris William's account of how Dan was shaking when came back from presumably having killed Sam, and how Rachel called him after he had left the two and tried to get him to come back (presumably to get rid of him, too). On the one hand, Dan killed these people like they were nothing, but on the other hand, he spilled the beans as soon as he could. From what I remember ABC’s “The final act” covers this story really well. They start by focusing on Julie, start bringing in her connections to Sam and then seemingly out of left field you find out it was this Daniel guy. Which is how it happened in real life - out of nowhere. So senseless and so sad.

  • @juliefisk8066
    @juliefisk8066 3 года назад +1

    An often overlooked fact in this case was that Sam suffered from PTSD and Wozniak knew this. He mentioned this to the police early on stating that he probably killed Julie in a manic state and then took off. Julie had ended her friendship with Sam once before, she had issues with erratic behavior, even his father said he had issues with PTSD. It was a perfect situation early on for Wozniak. Too bad the father pushed and pushed, knowing his son was not a killer!

    • @ScratchthechalkBoard
      @ScratchthechalkBoard 3 года назад

      Its insane he felt Sams combat pay pretty much money for not dying while serving in Iraq, Wozniak still felt completely entitled to Sams money. 62k? One year salary? Such greed. He only even knew because Sam just gave him $100. So much manipulation

    I am so glad you're covering this case Dr. I've been waiting for this! 😁 I remember hearing about it a few years ago and just being completely horrified at how gruesome the crime was. Looking forward to your thoughts about this guy. It seems to me he put on a facade of the person that he wanted people to believe he was, but he was far from the man that he portrayed himself to be. Terribly tragic case.

    • @ScratchthechalkBoard

      You should see his interview on an A&E. Death Row episode where he completely lies even though he had already confessed. He brings up he tried to kill himself from shame, that he is accused of killing one friend and ... decapitated another....i didnt do that.." he then looks off dramatically. Its worse knowing Julies mother happened to see the show and fainted. She was shocked because they thought there would be no trial since he confessed then he does that. Gross

    All this carnage over some MONEY? It's literally incomprehensible to me. I could see murder in a rage or even murder for revenge before I could assimilate the notion of dismembering a human being for some pissant 60K and a pizza. Ever since I was a little girl I've witnessed men struggle, each in their own way, to cope with the guilt of having killed other men in self-defense combat. According to my culture, religion and upbringing, humans are supposed to feel bad about killing regardless of the circumstances under which it occurs. The struggle to live with the guilt is part of what makes us human. Or so I'm told.

    ITA that Rachel did not deserve such vigorous prosecution.. I’d guess she initially believed Daniel was innocent and she was trying to support her fiancé. Once it became undeniable that he was guilty, she did the right thing and notified the police about the backpack. At least she was spared marriage to a psychopath. I hope she can find a satisfying life post-prison, but those felony convictions will of course haunt her in many ways.

    I have to agree with the Rachel Buffet case. I think sending her to jail was just overkill. All they did was make a criminal out of a victim. She had to find out that her fiance is a double murderer. She helped the police nail him and then as a thank you they send her up the river. I think they only did that to appease Sam's Dad who was understandably angry and wanted unlimited retribution.
