- How to swap your iPhone 5S logic board. In this video we will move the main logic board from a damaged iPhone 5S and install it in a better looking housing. The battery is also transferred since we don't know the history of the donor phone. This is one way to recover information from a good board that is inside of a damaged phone and a good way to refurbish your old 5S.

For those who have asked the information stored in your phone is located on the 5S logic board. If you move the board to another phone you will not lose any information. If your logic board has an iCloud on it then wherever the board goes the cloud goes with it. If your 5S logic board is locked then replacing it with an unlocked board will mean that you have an unlocked phone.

Yes but make sure you buy one with an OEM LCD. The after market screens may not work with the SE.
Question: I have an 5s which I cannot restore with several errors. it is clear that the problem is with the board. I plane to by a board and replace it. My questions is: are there any compatibility issues I need to consider when buying a new board?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll make sure to point out exactly what tools I'm using in the future. When you say broken completely do you mean like there's a crack in it or something? If it's physically damaged like broken in half I'd say probably not although you may have some options for data recovery of that's what you're after.
I have a two Iphones 5S model A1453 and A1533. Can use parts or motherboard from both phones and refurbish one of them even if the model numbers are not the same but they are both Iphone 5S

And of course keep the home buttons and boards together as they are not interchangable.

The iCloud stays with your board so no matter where you install it you need the credentials.

Nice video really helpful. But I have a question, I have two iPhone 5s one is 64gb and another 16gb. So if I change the logic board of the iPhone with 16 gb and put it into the housing of the one with 64gb will my storage change to 16 gb or will remain 64 gb
Yes whatever the logic board had is what the phone you put it into will be.
awesome thorough video. I bought an iPhone from someone who obviously had the screen repaired before. long story short, they bent the pins on the logic board that connect to the power cable. do you know anyone that would solder on a new one??

Not necessarily. If it can be repaired you probably can save a few bucks. There's a guy in SC that may be able to help you if you mail it in. I'm waiting for him to send contact info.
my iphone 5s screen cracked and also it came off.. like the screen and ripped cables... and my phone is also bend would it be possible to repair that? i would like to send you pictures of my phone . for your thoughts if its still possible to repair
+GEEXX_ If the logic board is bent then it will probably not be worth repairing. You can remove the board and attach a working screen, battery, and power button cable to see if it will power up first but even then stress on small components due to the bend make future problems a significant risk.
So will this work exactly like the smashed phone? All the settings, apps and storage will remain the same?
Yes assuming that the internal parts were not damaged.
Thanks for the awesome video. I have a diagnosis question. I have an iPhone 5s. I fixed the the broken screen once. That screen end up coming detected again. I turned off the iPhone to repair it again (glue the glass down with the 3M tape). Following the repair it would not turn on again. I did all of the "menu and power button" start up test and nothing happen. So, I plugged it to my Mac the phone gets hot, and it recognize it but it ask me to,"to allow access, please respond on your iPhone". to add, "iTunes and Photos" on to recognize the iPhone. Can you me what do i need to repair it? or where can I get it repaired?
Have you tried a different screen? If you refurbished a broken screen my first thought would be that the problem is somewhere in the display.

so if i change the board to a different housing. The IMEI on the back cover is not the same as the board I placed in it. Will this ever be a problem.
As far as the phone functioning no. It it were under warranty then that would be a problem. If you plan so sell it some people might not like that.
is there any way that I could move the IMEI number from the old logic board to the new Logic board so if I swap Logic boards the IMEI will match the one that is on the back of the phone?????
There is no practical way to move an IMEI from one iPhone to another. Not impossible but some serious board level component transfers.
i have a 5s but the screen and LCD is damaged, so i bough another 5s in perfect condition but its icloud locked...so if i only swap the motjer board from my 5s to the locked phone will it work fine?
Yes but if you want touch ID to work you'll need to swap the home button too. Make sure to watch a screen replacement tutorial for that as damaging the attached flex cable will also cause permanent loss of that function.

Whatever the board has on it stays there so it will be like turning on the phone that you took it from.

At the moment iFixit seems to have some of the best batteries. Pricey but you will get what you pay for. You might also try Injured Gadgets and Royalty Parts. As far as screens go the companies that I mentioned might be good places to try also. We have a guy who comes to our stores and does the refurbishing himself. That's the best option that I know of next to doing your own which is a big step to take of course. When buying online there are so many companies that start out good and later send garbage. They call this "quality fade" and it's a real problem for a lot of people which is why I am always hesitant to make these kinds of recommendations.

Not at all. 5, 5S, 6, 6S... all different.

Yes but you have to make sure that the home button flex transfers too or else no more touch ID.

Possibly but there are so many different things that can cause this that I'd be taking a wild guess without examining the phone or having more information. Does it show up on a computer when you plug it in? If not then it probably isn't booting up and could be a bad charge port, battery, charging IC, or something else.

Not if you transfer the home button flex cable with the board. Always keep those together.
What component deals with passwords ?
I would assume the nand and/or CPU.

Yes. As long as they are both 5S all of the parts are compatible regardless of storage size.

No problem. But you will want to keep the touch ID and logic board together. Otherwise you will lose the fingerprint scanner function. In fact I'm glad that you asked because even if you just swap the board you should swap the touch ID also.

Have you confirmed that it was working before you switched to another housing? If so it could be a bad component plugged in like the front camera, power button flex cable etc. Beyond that it might me a software issue. Can you restore it or trying to preserve data that's stored on the new one?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Can you swap a board from one iPhone 5 to another? Yes. Will you have touch ID? No. Can you put a 5 board in a 5S? No.

Yes. I didn't think to record that but it worked fine and still fits inside Otter Box style cases for the 5S.
