Cameron took an iconic horror movie and upped the ante, turning it into a full blown action spectacle. Awesome movie, awesome hilarious reactions from yall! Takes me back to being a teenager in a theater full of screaming people freaking on all these jumpscares and cheering Ripley on.
Yeah there’s nothing better than seeing and hearing an audience FREAKING OUT at jump scares. The first Alien movie when the Alien bursts out of John Hurts chest and Aliens where Michael Biehn gets on the table, shines his torch into that suspended ceiling and sees the Aliens crawling through. That was a big one.I STILL find it hard to believe this film came out in 1986(37 years ago).It STILL holds up so well today.
The initial chest burster scene is still shocking. But after seeing the insane body horror in The Thing, it feels less shocking. So it makes sense that Cameron would take the emphasis off the shock and horror elements and concentrate on establishing Ripley as a great, strong hero
@@LukeLovesRose I don’t know Luke.I saw Alien when it came out in 1979 and believe me that chest burst scene made a lot of the audience scream! I love John Carpenter’s The Thing which came out in 1982.Brilliant special effects, especially the dog scene and Norris. That film captures paranoia so well.Imagine being stuck in such a remote outpost and not knowing who to trust, because of an alien intruder. It’s still hard to believe the critics PANNED The Thing when it came out. Were they watching the same film as me? Thankfully it’s been reappraised as a classic.Shame on the critics!😾
Cameron went through hell to make this, the British crew (Pinewood Studios came with the same in-house crew) hated and openly disrespected him and thought of Cameron as a complete nobody who was ignorant in his choices (they were loyal to Ridley Scott). Weaver and Cameron's gf had to act as mediators to keep things cool. After filming wrapped, he gave a speech to them all and basically told them to F off as he would never have to see them again. Legendary!
Lance Henricson who played Bishop, he did the knife scene with Bill paxton for real. he worked on it for 6 months and with different knives. i just got to meet Lance recently at a convention, awesome great actor.
Such a quotable fun movie. "I say we take off, nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure." "Game over man! Game OVER!" "Get away from her you B*TCH!" "Yeah man, but it's a dry heat."
I went on this adventure when I was eleven years old in 1994. It has pretty much been one of my favorite movies ever since. The practical special effects are absolutely incredible. So fun to watch it with you ❤
How can you edit out the "Mummy" from Newt as she grabs Ripley. Carrie Henn (who played Newt) said the Assistant Director wanted to film the water scene the next morning so he had it heated overnight. Newt said in the morning it was too warm. So her and the "Alien" sat on the side bathing their feet in the water till it cooled down.
This is easily on my top 5 list. When I was in my teens this was my comfort film, I watched it every time I got sick. Gave me some amazing fever dreams.
Bill Paxton was killed on screen by a Terminator, Alien, and Predator... Lance Henrickson was killed by a Terminator, Alien, Predator, and Cenobite and got to see the aliens land at Devil's Tower!...
Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn and Lance Henrikson are all in Terminator 1. Vasquez/Jenette Goldstein is in T2 but master of disguise that she is you'll probably never know it's her. She was also the Irish mother with the kids in Titanic.
Are these all practical effects? Yes...CG hadn't really come up yet so the Aliens and everything else is practical, the ship shots were miniatures shot to look big and moving. You got to appreciate the effort this took as it still holds up to this day. Great reactions you two.
Love all the references to "Oh, they've got some Halo shit going on" and "now they've got the Batmobile", and "the suits the dude had in Avatar (which was a James Cameron film also)" etc., when this movie actually came out before all of them! This is the OG for so many things! Hahaha! Great reaction to one of my favourite films of all time guys (I saw it in the cinemas 6 times when it came out!)................sub'd. x
Bill Paxton is the only actor to be killed onscreen by a Terminator, Alien, and Predator. Technically Lance Henrikson did it too, but his Terminator death was offscreen.
His death in Terminator was never confirmed. He was just thrown into the bars and collapsed. That's not necessarily a death. His cause of death in Aliens wasn't clear either. He definately died but the question is how. He just "disappears".
@@Gurra88 Aliens 3. This started the job but due to Alien actions he ultimately buys it in 3. It's not as glamorous as getting ripped apart on camera but don't forget Bill Paxton didn't either.
Paul Reiser's role in Stranger Things is deliberately playing off this one, so the show can surprise us with his turning out to be an actual nice guy. He really doesn't get enough credit for this role, where he has to start out being so likable that we believe Ripley would trust a Company man, and then makes a seamless switch to his real personality.
Apparently there’s a scene which is cut that shows Paul Reisers body cocooned in the hive when Ripley goes into the hive to get Newt and she actually sees him.A bit like the cut scene of Dallas cocooned in the first Alien movie.
This movie is the pinnacle of special effects. Made just before CGI made it's way into film. This movie uses every special effects trick in the book pre computers.
The miniatures are absolutely incredible in this; for YEARS I thought that Ripley's rescue scene in the personnel carrier and the queen vs power loader fight scene were at 100% scale. I just kind of assumed Cameron had a massive budget to build sets like that. They still look so good today.
Really liked how you left in a lot of Bill Paxton. So many reactors complain about him, but I thought he was hilarious and made the character relatable. Only he could've played that part. By the way, Bishop was kind of the hero, you know? You were commenting on the white internal-systems fluid, but I thought he not only picked up Ripley and Newt, but he grabbed Newt so she didn't get sucked out of the ship. Since you didn't mention this, I thought I would. :)
When you see the crawlers preserved in the glass cases, it's not that they were studying them before hand. The colony didn't know the ship was there till Burke had them check it out. They were studying them after the colony was exposed to them. Mentions how 1 subject died from removing it
Same with the power loders - they can't actually build articulated robots like that (side eye @ Boston Dynamics) well not yet, in 1982, they got by with two stunt guys strapped back to back in a harness. One operating the legs the other the arms. But like all the very best special effects pre CGI it's all accomplished with shot selection, editing, miniatures and is so seamless you don't even notice.
About the infamous “xenomorph” line: “Xenomorph” literally just means “alien life form”. It’s military jargon for extraterrestrial. The eponymous Alien has no actual name and this posed a problem for lots of expanded universe stuff and for fans (who are generally pretty OCD and aren’t satisfied with aliens not having a name). So, through misunderstanding and misuse, “Xenomorph” became shorthand for the alien creature even though it really shouldn’t. It’s a throwaway line of dialogue.
Naturally, people watching the film in the present misinterpret the marines as having some sort of foreknowledge when they really don’t. Nobody does. Presumably, “bugs” and “bug-hunt”, would refer to either previously encountered unintelligent space vermin that military units would exterminate as part of routine colonial efforts. There are assets from the film production that allude to this- the nose art on a drop ship has an eagle with combat boots and the title BUG STOMPER.
And in the first film, the contract stipulates “intelligent” life rather than alien life and there are pre-existing quarantine protocols for any biological encounters.
Same here. But have you seen 57 written all over the set?? if you haven't seen Cameron hiding the number 57 in plain sight, you haven't seen Aliens nearly enough.
A lot of people will maybe tell you to skip Alien3, but in spite of its flaws, I think it’s worth seeing. The story is darker, it’s directed by David Fincher, the soundtrack and cinematography are noteworthy, and IMO the performances by Charles Dance and Charles S. Dutton are worth the price of admission.
There is nothing worth saving in Alien 3. It could easily be the worst, most infuriating sequel ever made. Prometheus is infinitely better. I dont know how you people could love Alien 3 and hate Prometheus
Please consider Dog Soldiers as a movie to watch some time, great film, massivly underated due to the lack of press it got on release. So many folk have never heard of it, but it's one of the best of it's kind.
Werewolves "eyebrows that join in the middle" 😅 this is one of my favourite werewolves movie. They should definitely add this to their must watch pile.
I love how everybody thinks they are going to pull the same thing twice with the android. (And they starrt dislikng Bishop for no reason whatsoever, lol.)
This movie, including the cigar chomping Sergeant were the inspiration for halo. Also, those long guns that were hip mounted, are called smart guns, and they aim for you. All you got to do is pull the trigger.
A great reaction as always guys. Unfortunately, I'm old enough to remember going to see this at the pictures over here in that little island off the coast of Europe called Britain 😃😃 It's the only time I ever stood and applauded at the end of a movie, and you guys were absolutely right to watch the theatrical cut first. Its more tense, and the extended cut gives a lot of spoilers away near the beginning. The only advantage the extended version has is that it shows Ripley grieving over the loss of her daughter - which explains why she got so attached to Newt, but what a movie!!!
Ya sometimes the theatrical is recommended first, I'm a huge LOTR fan and debatably I recommended the theatricals to first time watchers...extended might be too long in this case
Yeah I saw it when it came out to.I always remember the scene when Michael Biehn climbs onto the table to look into the suspended ceiling and sees the aliens crawling through, brought a massive gasp from the audience. This should have been when the franchise ended.Alien and Aliens couldn’t be bettered.Alien 3 was such a massive let down when I saw it in 92.Seems to be the same with so many franchises.Terminator is another example.First two classics, after that forget it.Same with Alien/Aliens.
For me, I prefer the extended version if only for the scene about Ripley's kid and the auto-turret defense scene - those two scenes added so much to the movie. I know the earlier scene of Newt's parents going and investigating the derelict ship is hit or miss for some people but I loved it.
One of my top 5 films of all time, only bested by Terminator 2 (Lord Of The Rings being my top #1) I think this tops the first film, the bombastic nature of it and ramping up of the narrative appeals to me. Thanks for the vid!
I love how you were like - "look at the avatar mech suit...halo weapons...batmobile"...where do you think they ALL got the ideas from?..this movie was FIRST. ;)
when bishop is crawling through the tunnel the xenomorphs are banging on the pipe to get in as they here someone in the pipe there is a lot of clips missing and from alien which i have also burke is captured by the xenomorphs back to the hive he will have injury's to where they would have pulled him across the floors and the terrain breaking his legs and arms . the next clip of burke will be ripley sees him on the wall with the residue stuck to him and ripley gives him a live grenade to kill himself. yes i also have the clip
One of the first movies where they took the marines into a boot camp, so they appear as a unit in the movie. It shows. One of the best if not THE best military SciFi movies. The other one is Predator. Also, Cameron had military advisors on the set, and it shows. He did NOT have military advisors in the prequels, and it also shows...
I love that bishop is the only android in the entire franchise that doesnt actively try to sabotage or kill ripley and also call too but i dont usually count resurection at least its better than avp requim
Two things people never notice you need to be smart to realize it. First there is a reason why Burk says he works for the company but that he is an ok guy. That is to show that its a dream sequence already. He would not know about Ripley's distain for the company. Second one is in the dropship. The reason why Hicks is asleep. That is to show that he is a veteran. While the dude in charge have that fear look on his face Hicks is as calm and asleep like he done this a million times. Alot of nuances people miss throughout the movie.
James Cameron is making some interesting statements about robots, AI and humanity and "monsters" Leaves you guessing who to trust and everyone is like don't trust bishop but turns out a robot was more trustworthy and humans were the real monsters
One of the greatest sequels and sci-fi films ever made. And personally my favorite James Cameron film. By the way the first one was made by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Gladiator).
Hehe, know what thought keeps coming to my head whenever I watch this movie? So the one alien that got Newt just immobilized her getting her ready for an egg. But what about the few other soldiers we saw get taken just in that last battle before? Hudson didn't look like he died, he just was pulled under the floor. Ripley didn't bother to try to find him? I guess she didn't have a locator for him but I don't think he would have been very far from where they stuck Newt. Like what if he was conked out too just like 10 feet away from Newt, Ripley didn't see him and like maybe he woke up just in time to see Ripley running off with Newt. That would have been shitty! LOL
"None of you have like a knife" and spill acid blood all over her throat. I love when people totally forget what the problem hurting these aliens is in close proximity =)

Legendary!
@@IndyCrewInNYC people are still betting against James Cameron
Lance Henricson who played Bishop, he did the knife scene with Bill paxton for real. he worked on it for 6 months and with different knives. i just got to meet Lance recently at a convention, awesome great actor.
Such a quotable fun movie. "I say we take off, nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure." "Game over man! Game OVER!" "Get away from her you B*TCH!" "Yeah man, but it's a dry heat."
I'm personally partial to *"LETS ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOCK!!!"*
They mostly come at night, mostly
“Have IQs dropped sharply while I’ve been away?!”
So epic
lol only 200 other people mentioned this already
Aliens is a 10 out of 10! Loved both of your reactions to this masterpiece.
Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn and Lance Henrikson are all in Terminator 1. Vasquez/Jenette Goldstein is in T2 but master of disguise that she is you'll probably never know it's her. She was also the Irish mother with the kids in Titanic.
Bill and Michael were also in another fantastic movie. Tombstone.
Are these all practical effects? Yes...CG hadn't really come up yet so the Aliens and everything else is practical, the ship shots were miniatures shot to look big and moving. You got to appreciate the effort this took as it still holds up to this day. Great reactions you two.
RIPLEY WAS AMAZING
This is freaking everything!!! I adore this movie so much.
Glad you guys loved Aliens.
Even though Alien³ isn't popular but I would recommend watching it.
They made an audiodrama version based off the original script. Michael Beihn & Lance Henrickson reprise their roles as Hicks & Bishop. & Newt is alive
Only if you hate the first two movies, the characters, the story, and you want to see it all thrown in the trash, replaced by something far inferior.
@@HalfCracker4lifedo you know where I can find that? I know Google but I like communities better 😅
Love all the references to "Oh, they've got some Halo shit going on" and "now they've got the Batmobile", and "the suits the dude had in Avatar (which was a James Cameron film also)" etc., when this movie actually came out before all of them! This is the OG for so many things! Hahaha! Great reaction to one of my favourite films of all time guys (I saw it in the cinemas 6 times when it came out!)................sub'd. x
Love nonsense comment
Bill Paxton is the only actor to be killed onscreen by a Terminator, Alien, and Predator. Technically Lance Henrikson did it too, but his Terminator death was offscreen.
But Lance was also killed by a Pumpkinhead.
His death in Terminator was never confirmed. He was just thrown into the bars and collapsed. That's not necessarily a death. His cause of death in Aliens wasn't clear either. He definately died but the question is how. He just "disappears".
When was Lance killed by an alien? It can't be this one since he played an android. He was still alive/functioning.
@@Gurra88 Aliens 3. This started the job but due to Alien actions he ultimately buys it in 3. It's not as glamorous as getting ripped apart on camera but don't forget Bill Paxton didn't either.
@@Gurra88 He dies from the damage in the next film.
Good call!
He even says “kiddo” 😮
They are ALL practical effects :D
The Alien showing up at the end like "Bet you thought you'd seen the last of me" was everything
When you see the crawlers preserved in the glass cases, it's not that they were studying them before hand. The colony didn't know the ship was there till Burke had them check it out. They were studying them after the colony was exposed to them. Mentions how 1 subject died from removing it
Super reaction. One of my fav movies ever as a kid. Enjoyed your reaction
WOOO! Aliens is my favorite sci-fi movie of all time. I am so excited for y'all to watch it.
Its amazing how much puppetry went into the operation of the alien queen and how it looked so real
Did you guys know that "Vasquez" also played the foster mom in Terminator 2? Yeah - She got to have a stabby arm and everything :)
I was *today* years old when I figured out that Burke was in Stranger Things as a Papa's coworker 😳😳😳
31:07
Did you miss that part about acid blood that can burn even through metal ? ;)
Still the most exciting movie I saw at the theater, thanks y’all!
About the infamous “xenomorph” line:
“Xenomorph” literally just means “alien life form”.
Nice!!! Can't wait for Alien 3, which is my favourite!
🐱
One of the few movies I know almost verbatim. Aliens is a staple rewatch for me.
The cinematography and music in Alien 3 really makes it "its own thing" and it's totally worth watching. It's just "not as good" as Aliens.
@@thinkingoutloud3757 It's depressing as hell tho.
Aliens 3 you will find out who is in charge of the company. Who gave the real orders for the first two
Alien 3 is the gentle slope before the Cliff, that is the rest of the sequels.
Not worth seeing IMO
There is nothing worth saving in Alien 3. It could easily be the worst, most infuriating sequel ever made. Prometheus is infinitely better. I dont know how you people could love Alien 3 and hate Prometheus
"Right in the sack!" 😆 I love your reaction and I love this movie!
You love anything really easy then?
Youre not the only reactioneer that predicted that Vasquez would be the first to die when in fact she and the Leutenant are the last to die 😲😀
32:26 Bridget's face here is priceless. I think this is one of the scariest moments in the movie, to be fair!
Your reactions to the jumpscares are priceless!!!
Please consider Dog Soldiers as a movie to watch some time, great film, massivly underated due to the lack of press it got on release. So many folk have never heard of it, but it's one of the best of it's kind.
That's among best Werewolf films I have seen.
It's bone
Werewolves "eyebrows that join in the middle" 😅 this is one of my favourite werewolves movie. They should definitely add this to their must watch pile.
I love how everybody thinks they are going to pull the same thing twice with the android. (And they starrt dislikng Bishop for no reason whatsoever, lol.)
This movie, including the cigar chomping Sergeant were the inspiration for halo.
Also, those long guns that were hip mounted, are called smart guns, and they aim for you. All you got to do is pull the trigger.
We wouldnt have Doom without Aliens. Then we probably wouldnt have Call of Duty either
Yeah, if there’s one thing from the extended that really should not have been cut from the theatrical, it’s the part about Amanda.
For me, I prefer the extended version if only for the scene about Ripley's kid and the auto-turret defense scene - those two scenes added so much to the movie. I know the earlier scene of Newt's parents going and investigating the derelict ship is hit or miss for some people but I loved it.
Little fun fact, the lady at the Boardroom who spoke about no indigenous life, was played by Sigourney Weaver's mom.
No, she´s not. But the lady in photo of Ripley´s daughter Amanda, that´s Sigourney Weaver´s mom.
One of the few sequels that outshines the original.
Child’s Play 2
This is the 2nd of 4 films that Michael Biehn and Bill Paxton where in together. 1st was Terminator, 3rd was Navy Seals, and 4th was Tombstone.
They did Lords of Discipline first
You guys are so hilarious! I can always count on you for a fun time.
One of my top 5 films of all time, only bested by Terminator 2 (Lord Of The Rings being my top #1)
I think this tops the first film, the bombastic nature of it and ramping up of the narrative appeals to me.
Thanks for the vid!
For decades I thought she said "Nuke the place for morbid".
"from orbit" makes a whole tonne more sense
Ripley fired the flamethrower to show the queen what it does, then pointed it at the eggs... That's why the queen and the other xenomorphs backed off.
Space Marine Vasquez is John Connor's Stepmom in T2
42:12 Queen takes Bishop.
Here’s a fun fact - the woman that plays Vasquez also played that sweet Irish mommy of the 2 kids in the Titanic 🤯
Cameron did such an amazing job with this movie.
One of my all time favorites. I saw the rerelease at an OMNI theatre with my dad when I was probably 8 and have probably seen it 100+ times since
1:18 Alien was Ridley Scott
I love how you were like - "look at the avatar mech suit...halo weapons...batmobile"...where do you think they ALL got the ideas from?..this movie was FIRST. ;)
"It's like one of those suits from Avatar" both James Cameron films. Cameron has a longtime fascination with mech suits.
when bishop is crawling through the tunnel the xenomorphs are banging on the pipe to get in as they here someone in the pipe there is a lot of clips missing and from alien which i have also burke is captured by the xenomorphs back to the hive he will have injury's to where they would have pulled him across the floors and the terrain breaking his legs and arms .
the next clip of burke will be ripley sees him on the wall with the residue stuck to him and ripley gives him a live grenade to kill himself.
yes i also have the clip
Masterpiece ever. The best sequel ever.
40:50 - Alien Queens have very high IQ. At least 10 points above top human limit. So elevator was not hard to figure out.
I LOVED ALL THE SOLDIERS, They loved each other
8:24 BRIGETTE!!!! I’m in complete tears 😂😂😂
"Bill Paxton, is he going to die from a predator and an alien"
Well.. I se you have not watched the full trifecta yet.
James Cameron is making some interesting statements about robots, AI and humanity and "monsters"
Leaves you guessing who to trust and everyone is like don't trust bishop but turns out a robot was more trustworthy and humans were the real monsters
This is my joint first favourite movie of all time with Terminator 2 and Titanic. I guess James Cameron tells stories I really enjoy.
This is one of the best reactions to this movie I've ever seen. LMAO!
One of the greatest sequels and sci-fi films ever made. And personally my favorite James Cameron film.
By the way the first one was made by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Gladiator).
The last big nuclear explosion was actually made with a lightbulb and some cotton above it. Beats a lot of CGI nowadays
LOL
43:23 - the famous battle of two mothers...
"None of you have like a knife" and spill acid blood all over her throat. I love when people totally forget what the problem hurting these aliens is in close proximity =)
31:10 yes he had a knife, but don't forget the face huggers have acid for blood and it was on Ripley.
If you end up watching Alien3 at some point, you have to watch the Assembly Cut, because it's much better than the cinematic cut.
That's like saying dog sh1t is much better than horse sh1t. I'd pass on both.
42:08 The Queen's Revenge, is such a visceral seen and so memorable that it actually made in Mortal Kombat XL as a FATALITY.... I first saw this movie on tv when I was 10, and I used to HATE IT so much that I would literally skip it a few frames because it was so gory.
Fun fact. if you watch to the very end of the credits you can hear a egg hatch what the mother left on the ship :)
38:31 was the exact reaction to EVERYONE watching for the first time
I don't care what anybody says. I like all 4 movies and I think you. Guys should really watch all 4 of them. Because you might be missing out on something that you may like
I watched all 4 movies and it was a huge mistake. I should have just stopped after the second one.
This movie is CGI free, everything you see is a practical effect. We had to wait another 3 years for James Cameron to make ‘The Abyss’ to see CGI mainstream. Love your faces all through this 😂😂 great reaction! 😘😘 kisses both
I always just picture the queen chillin in the elevator with elevator music playing. All this chaos in the base and with Ripley but meanwhile, lol
Laser Tag... I was thinking Nerf battles... when everyone grabbed the biggest Nerf guns they had, loaded up on darts, and just went to town shooting the hell out of each other.
That was hilarious, thanks. I really enjoy your chemistry together. You both crack me up.
"Don't you have a knife" got me.
Alien 3 wasn't my favourite, but it's an ok film that introduces some more about xenomorphs. I'd watch your reaction to it.
Glad you got your fight club scene Cody, as soon as you said that I thought, this is gonna be good.
