I agree. All in all, the Type 2 American Gold Eagle is very nice and a coin we can be proud of.
On another note, I think it's so good that you have shared several times your difficult experience trying to sell less popular coins. Right now with lots of interest in this market, coin shops might be willing to buy just about anything. When the market is down and interest wanes, it's always a challenge selling something that is slower for the shop to move.
I've faced this over the years with firearms on a few occasions. It doesn't matter how much I paid for a firearm, or even how much it might be worth; if it's something that is slower to move off the shelf, a shop owner might just not be willing to trade or purchase at ANY sort of fair price. They have to move inventory in order to stay in business and cannot afford to tie up money in merchandise that becomes a permanent fixture. "Gold is gold," but if that gold is in a coin that is in lower demand, a shop owner in this country would much rather buy that "Gold is gold" in the form of an American Eagle or Gold Buffalo. That said, I think everybody should have a certain percentage of their physical holdings in fun stuff they just like, despite the fact that it might not be as quick to move as an Eagle or Buffalo.
I'm sure a lot of folks are listening and learning from your experiences. Keep trucking!

The St. Gaudens Lady Liberty and the Liberty Walking designs are the MOST beautiful coin designs in history so far. One of the problems is that the mint no longer has a Chief Engraver (It's an engraving, not a sculpture btw...). So, our coinage is designed by committee now and the designs for most of our coinage are pedestrian at best. I like the type 2 versions of both the gold and silver eagles and would like to see more changes in the future, but I don't think there are artists now with enough talent to create something as beautiful as these coins are.

    • @2is1gold

Regarding 2:48, on the Obverse of the Type 2 American Gold Eagle there are no longer 50 stars for each of the States of the Union; instead they have been reduced to only 46 stars. This is because the outer border containing the 50 stars previously from the Type 1 Obverse since 1986 have been truncated down to 46 stars as a consequence of Liberty being enlarged closer to the foreground and thus 4 stars along the outer border have vanished. Coincidentally in 1907 when Augustus Saint Gaudens originally designed his Double Eagle $20 Gold Coin there were only 46 States in the Union.

The american gold eagle was never that pretty and the changes didn't help much. An eagle's head is just a boring subject compared to the whole bird. And the lady seems to have put on some weight to please the feminist agenda ;)
You better be happy you have your buffalos!
I'll rank the most common coins like this (aesthetically):
    1) Britannia
    2) Kangaroo
    3) Philharmonic
    4) Buffalo
    5) Maple Leaf
    6) American Gold Eagle
    7) Krugerrand
With 6 and 7 being way less pretty than number 5.

I like these coins so much that I bought 3 Maples and 3 Britannias so far. Maybe I will buy an Eagle sometime in the future, but for the price of them and the gold content, I'd rather stick with Maples 🍁 and Britannias. God bless

I don't know if I like the angry chicken on the back of the new AGE. I think the new design on the ASE would have worked better looked nicer than an angry chicken head and if that's as far as the US mint went with today's possible security features call me deeply disappointed. I fell that's outright plain lazy. I'll just stack buffalos or the older version of eagles and some modern foreign mint coins. Might even start stacking platinum eagles again.
