Full build playlist: • Walnut Wyvern
This is the complete build video on the making of the Wyvern custom guitar. This is a design that I have named the Wyvern, and it is my own design with some influences from both Strandberg and PRS. This build was completed on August 31, 2021.
The body and neck are Black Walnut, and the fretboard is Macassar Ebony.
The pickups are a Seymour Duncan Phat Cat P90 in the neck, and a Duncan JB in the bridge.
The bridge is a Schaller Tunematic-style roller bridge, and the tuners are Gotoh locking tuners.

A little extra info about the playing demo: The guitar was tuned to E standard.
The amp we were using was a REVV Generator 100P MkIII, and all guitar sounds were recorded using its built in Two Notes Torpedo direct recording output, which was plugged directly into a Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 (3rd Gen).
Reverb pedal used was a Source Audio Ventris.
(I am not being paid to promote any products appearing in this video, nor were any of them provided to me for use in this, or any other video).

Your stuff comes up on my feed because I'm a hobbyist woodworker.
You are to be commended for doing such nice work with almost no modern power tools.
I got my big stuff (jointer, band saw etc. from a pro shop that was upgrading, you can usually get a good deal because the tools have already made the shop money and if you have cash and a trailer, you can usually get a good deal.
You cannot get wood flat with a planer, only parallel, so a jointer is really helpful.
Hand cutting the fret slots is very impressive, but a jig would make the process faster and very accurate and repeatable.
C.N.C. routers are easy to program and relatively cheap these days.
You could profile the necks and cut the fret slots in one operation, thus insuring perfect accuracy.
And those paddle drill bits have GOT to go.
I thnk you can buy Forstner bits individually if you don't want to spring for a whole set. They cut clean, no tear out and leave a nice finish in the bottom of the hole.

My question is, if the fret slots are one depth then you radius the fret board, won’t there be a void in the slot in the center of the fret?

    • @OrbitalGuitars
      @OrbitalGuitars  Год назад

No, because the initial cut is only to the depth of the fret tang. Once the fretboard is radiused, the ends of the slots are too shallow and need to be deepened. Once that is done, the fret slots are radiused equally to the fretboard, and are the exact depth of the fret tang all the way across.

I thought it was going to be a guitar made from a single piece of wood, not a single piece of wood to make a guitar. I think it's a bit clickbaity. I don't care if you used one piece of wood. What's so impressive about that? There's nothing wrong with using multiple pieces of wood to build a guitar. I don't care either way. What is one piece of wood? A tree trunk is one piece of wood. You can make a lot of stuff out of a tree trunk.

Video got less than 5000 views in 8 months, if it's clickbait, it's not working.

The ultimate conclusion, I would definitely not order a guitar from such a craftsman. Why not? The reason is banal. The fingerboard is glued to the fretboard. If something happens to the lining, fingerboard, anchor, it doesn't matter, it can't be replaced. accordingly, it's already to throw the guitar away. No serious company that makes guitars will not allow such a mistake.

The fingerboard is glued to the fretboard? A fingerboard and a fretboard are two words for the same thing. The fretboard is glued to the neck, as is the case with every company that makes guitars. PRS glues their frets into the fretboard. Heating the frets loosens the glue if they need to be replaced, which is something every repair person knows.
Please actually know what you are talking about if you want to try to insult me.

Umm all fretboards are glued fo the neck ... I doubt he's selling those works of art to just anyone anyway . probably a long list to get on just like my guitars
