This album and tour was a massive undertaking. They played EVERYWHERE for almost 3 years. This was 21 months out from the album release and the official last date for this album touring cycle was Woodstock ‘94 if I’m not mistaken. They are the ultimate road dogs. Much respect to them and they continue to deliver the goods live. I’ve been fortunate to see them in a stadium, arena, and a small club. They bring it every time.
I was on the local sound crew when they did 2 nights in Honolulu in 1993. I have one of the shows on DAT tape somewhere right from Big Micks console, our PM 3000
I'm not a musician by any stretch of the imagination, and can't play a single instrument (except the skin-flute lol) and have heard many a time that lars was a horrible drummer and other b.s. I've seen this band live more then any other band live (except my favorite SLAYER!) And they always bring it, with intensity and skill! And lars (as you can see in this video) always brings the intensity, passion and endless energy! And yeah they definitely are king when it comes to touring! When I was 10, and for my birthday, my mother got me the "a year and a half in the life of Metallica " It made me respect them even more, and I loved how it really showed how much of a production it really is to put on a live show from city to city. I loved how they were without a doubt just being themselves behind the scenes on camera as well. Absolutely love this band, even when all the poser assholes out there started talking mad shit about them when they started experimenting with their music, and trying different things. They as a band can do and try out different things, nothing wrong with that. Shit, if they wanted to try polka or friggin R & B I'd be behind them 100% lol. Anyways great video, and one of my favorite songs from them!

Man that fucking solo, I’ll never get tired of it. And this song means a lot to me since this was one of the first songs that got me into Metallica along side with NEM, Unforgiven, and Fade to Black

They were tired and burned out, this was almost at the end of that long tour but they still sounded GREAT!
True true the black album tour was the longest Metallica tour yet and they sounded great but tired and I think Woodstock 94 was also apart of the black album tour
No, woodstock wasn't part of the black album tour. The '94 shows started one year after they took a year off to rest. The black album tour ended in JUN/'93 and after that they took one year off. Many things changed since '94. Jaymz, had a mullett, Kirk Dreads, Lars downsized his drum kit from 9 to 7 pieces (removing two toms). They also started to down tune guitars live.

Yeah man, I've been a fan for so long since '89 and I'm obsessed with this band 🤣🤣 . Black album tour was just 2 years, actually less than two years but since the album was so succesfull they played way too many shows. They made a 💩load of money but there were consequences. 3 divorces, Lars suffered a shoulder injury that sometimes comes back to haunt him and Jaymz suffered irreversible vocal damage. After the black album he uses some kind of back up voice, a cleaner voice and also they play downtuned guitars he can't play an entire show like he use to do back in the late 80's/early 90's, he just can't do that raspy/ growly voice the whole show otherwise he'd lose his voice entirely. Even though they were still young, in their late 20's, which was their prime they were exhausted 'cause it was just too much.
Metallica will always be the fuel that keeps me going at the start of the day and keeps me moving throughout the whole day :)

Probably the best song from the Black Album, or at least my favorite. Love the Middle Eastern-sounding riff. Killer performance - the whole band was on fire, especially Kirk and Lars.

I love this classic flashback footage. I have seen Metallica 14 times with all 3 bass players. I am sick of people saying which bass player is the best. This band has always been my favorite no matter who is playing bass....They are all great bass players in their own way....Rock on Metallica family!!!!

Lots of other bands needs to learn how to fill the discs with rarities, outtakes, demos, live shows and a good book (hello Nirvana?). There would be too difficult to find this Sao Paulo show only by the will of fans, and of course, it would not be high quality as this one. Metallica rules!

I believe Metallica broke the bank when they toured this album worldwide. Best touring content of them in their prime. I remember some ppl tried to down play this album but they don't know good metal if they do that. Listening to it again 20 yrs later feels like the first time.
