Disney Cast Member EXPOSES Star Wars Galaxy's Edge!

- While at the Amazon Prime experience at SDCC 2019, I got into a conversation with a vacationing Disney Cast Member who told me all about why Disneyland and STAR WARS GALAXY'S EDGE is having trouble keeping full during the middle of summer. Here I break down what she told me, and I think its very interesting how badly the house of mouse hurt themselves by turning a STAR WARS land into a Mall instead of being an experience.

Disney is becoming less Walt Disney and more Wallet Disney.
Very clever.
Gold.
😂👍
LOL
We'll pretend that's not how it's been for decades.
Disney: jacks up prices.
Fewer people show up
Disney: surprised pikachu face.
To be honest it would be common sense to raise the prices when there’s a lot of people
L M A O!!!!
@@ethrawn373 not really, lower the price to attract more visitors and you'll make more money than you would raising the price and having fewer visitors in the long term.
@@BansheeSquadron yes, but lowering the prices should only be done if there’s less of a demand for the product. In Disney’s case, they knew more people would be coming to the park. They raised the prices because there was a higher demand for tickets to the park
@@ethrawn373 and look where that got them.
Lower the prices, bring in legacy characters, more rides, interactive stuff for kids, fix it.
Lower prices mean bigger crowds. If they charged $50, the park would be so packed that you probably wouldn’t want to go.
they wouldn't do that then they would have to pay royalties to george lucas for original characters
That me too low, @@williamcousert, but $65 to $75 per ticket will bring the crowds because it'll seem more reasonable to the public. Plus they'll be more apt to buy merchandise.
@@IndianaJoe0321 they aren't lowering prices, they aren't worried, they aren't hurting for money, and they are most certainly selling merch. By the truckload. Hourly. I bought lots of it. Along with everyone else that is there, every time we go.

Not spending 150 doesn’t make you cheap at all. It makes you intelligent
They are pricing out the middle class. Which is their biggest consumers.
Terry Cawthon exactly. They want a certain “clientele” there. It’s sickening.
@@HoldensaurusTheDinoGamer well, they better prepare their asses for the amount of money they are set to lose from this. the vast majority arent rich and attendance can only get worse from this point on if they keep raises ticket prices among everything else. Universal and Knotts are getting huge boosts in attendence these days from this, both those parks
@@HoldensaurusTheDinoGamer I guess the Disneyland fight video showed them enough...
rexrabbiteer Yup
@@rexrabbiteer Universal and Knotts might get boosts in attendance but unfortunately their annual attendance is nowhere near as close to a Disney park. Last year, Disneyland got 20+ million while Universal is just below 10 million. You also have to consider the thousands of tourists worldwide who goes to Disneyland daily.
$150 admission to a Star Wars gift shop and 4-min arcade game.
Tertiary Adjunct i mean you ain’t wrong
You do realize it's admission to the entire park, right? That's like saying you're paying $150 just to visit Adventureland.
@@LaurenceQuint But you do realize they raised the price from 100$ to 150$ just for adventure land aka Star wars land
To be fair, 'Rise of the Resistance' isn't open yet, and it's supposed to be the main attraction. Imagine if Pandora opened only with Nav'i River Journey.

Well you know what they say about don't dish it out if you can't take it?
Haha!!!!!🤣
Lol
@Mickey Mouse Hi, Mickey!
This is no joke. Disney is very tight about information and even though it is one cast member’s opinion, Disney will still find this cast member and probably fire her
Nothing really to do for the kids.Just a fancy Sci Fi Mall that’s overpriced about everything.
Sergio L Custom made lightsabers? An opportunity to fly the Millennium Falcon? A LothCat? Interact with R2D2?
@@thefreerepublicofadmiralpr2935 200 dollars for a lightsaber? And that's for one person. Imagine going with a family of 4 and they all want lightsabers. The ride is fun but nothing to grand. And the place is just one big mall to spend money.
Yea ikr all kids can do in there is get lost smh
200 dollars for a dust collector. I love star wars, but even I know it will just sit in my house after the first week
@@bastiangt3929 Quality lightsabers are expensive, even without the custom versions and experience at Batuu. You can always get a cheaper lightsaber somewhere else in the park.
Disney is probably thinking right now, "snitches get stitches".
@Acme Inc. very clever
*mickey mouse is gonna burn that cast members house*
In the day of the internet being this greedy is a mistake, it's not like the old days where word couldn't get around and people would unknowingly pay. These days millions of people see a video then go "NOPE!"
"our attractions are not just for the super rich." "of course not... we'll have a coupon day."
The only one on my side is the blood sucking lawyer..
"Will you actually have Star Wars in your Star Wars park?"
Star Wars! Do we have Star Wars here? See, nobody cares. Nice Goofy hat.
When they opened Disneyland in 1955..nothing worked..
Chris Brown “But, John, if the Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists”
You spend a billion dollars on 14 acres of land to build 9 shops, 5 restaurants and only one attraction which is a flight simulator. To top it off, everything is completely over priced.....
WHAT THE HELL WERE THEY THINKING?
Your just refusing to pay money. Cheap ass
no there’s also rise of the resistence
It’s a fucking theme park, I’m willing to bet you don’t say the same to universal when they charge basically the same and you get 1/4 what Disney has to offer, all there is there is hog warts, studio tour and city walk.
@@RednaxIsHere Very toxic. But kinda agree with you.
This is what Disney wanted in the first place. They didn't care about the legacy, the story, or the characters.
They wanted to buy our passion and make us pay tribute to them.
100%
Totally agree
They could've done it well, but the problem here is the type of content.
YES u are so right you just said a mouth full my friend WOW.
Chris Force speaking on Walt but you don’t know him?
I remember when there was a rumor going around that you were going to be able to go to multiple different Star Wars planets depending on where you were in Galaxy's Edge. I was so down for that idea. Like maybe a section for a planet from every movie? Nope. That would've been awesome.
Same here
Disney prices are completely out of control, I think they finally priced themselves out of the market
I hope so
I totally agree...it shouldn’t cost a family of nearly $10,000 to go to Disney for 6 park ticket days
@@heathertenley1528 I detect a typo as I doubt you have a family of $10,000. I'm guessing a number in the 4-6 range is missing.

Disney is a complete joke.
Sounds like that Rey Actress is more of a relatabale hero than movie Rey herself :P
Humor aside, The people working in these parks seem to be the real heroes / victims in all of this, from what we can hear about this whole mess...
We spoke with one of the cast members in Galaxy's Edge and he was a real nice guy. He did break character with me, though, because I was wearing a 501st shirt, so he was able to give me some interesting tips like how you should look for all the Easter Eggs they've placed around there. For example, the cargo containers have the numbers 77, 80, and 83 on them.
At least the Rey cast member isn't a Mary Sue. Just an awesome person doing awesome stuff.
I agree. Disney has forgotten Walt' s dream!!!!!!
yep
TemporalVoid bro you are so right
TemporalVoid but Walt was anti Semitic! So I’m not really sure that this would upset him.
Walt was a businessman ... If you think he wouldn't have minded the money you are crazy
Tisha Roy, his brother was the business man. Walt was the risk taker, the true creative.
They should add an Endor-themed playground, kids would love the Ewoks
BaruMuzik That would be awesome, but because Disney is using the sequel trilogy, we sadly won’t be seeing our fury little original trilogy friends. :(
That's a great idea. Hell, even I would want to play with the Ewoks.
do they have enough space though?
@@ItsGman this is what I wondered. I thought I seen somewhere that Disney plans on expanding but idk what they mean exactly by "expand". It could mean more shops for what we know
They won't do that because it's part of the old system and they want to get rid of it
GALAXY'S EDGE reflects the SEQUEL and SPIN OFF MOVIES-creatively bankrupt.
Thank you as always for the update.
Yes thank you......
they should have made it an entirely different story and the world, while keeping tie-ins to the legacy characters and events, as they did with Fantastic Beasts and stuff like that. It would have given them an option to create new characters, locations, rides, ect.. and have an excuse to always add and expand something new to it, instead of just being limited to 1 base.
@@Eternaldarkness3166 100% agree. Episode VII should have set a new story arc off, over a 3 6 or 9 cycle.
But DISNEY wanted a quick buck and the team to deliver a long term creative vision, with pay off much like the AVENGERS saga, was/is clearly missing.
The EU had a wealth of very successful and ingenious material to draw from but they thought they knew better.
You nailed it sir! "Galaxy's Edge Mall" and lack of "experiences" is exactly what I've been saying since I went in May. I hope Disney makes some changes.
Galaxy's Edge = A 3D Star War's e-store you can stand in and sweat in.
All of the original magic is gone.... Just like Luke Skywalker's rightt hand, it's never coming back.
In the Thrawn trilogy Lukes hand comes back. As a clone called Luuke or something like that.
Disney has priced our family out of the parks. We started going on cruises.
Duane A Disney cruises? LOL! They are overpriced, also!
🤔 hmmm...measles, or staph infection...
Connie Crawford ge didn’t say DISNEY CRUISE.
I’m a Florida resident pass holder with weekday select $38 a month, so going 4 times a year at least pays for it. But also as a resident I definitely don’t eat or shop there... I just love some of the rides too much
Gregory King as a Florida Res you have discounts for these places to save you money so think about it....
You're spot on. I have an annual pass. I've been four times. And there really isn't anything to do. You can ride the Millennium Falcon ride, but it gets old quickly. It's Star Tours 2.0. Not super, super thrilling. There's food, merch, and $100 droid-building/$200 lightsaber-building. That's it. You're done with the "experience" in maybe a half hour to 45 minutes. So disappointing which seems to be a common theme (at least for me) since Episode VIII. Star Wars has morphed and not for the better.
Hit the Nail right on the Head!!! $149 day at Disneyland, $149 for Season Pass at Universal Studios.
pacificdragon1 that’s not true. Universal is just as expensive as Disney
And at least with Universal, you don't have to be a resident to renew or get a season pass, it just costs a little extra.
I work for Disneyland for 22 years .. I haven't seen it this slow since 1991 during Desert Storm... it's horrible slow
That is saying a whole lot! Word has gotten out that it's $40 more dollars for a museum in the park.
I remember when they had to turn people away at certain points because of fire safety regulations
I’d legitimately pay more than $150 to go every once in a while if it means low crowds. Galaxy’s Edge is just one part of the package. I happen to agree for the average fan it’s very expensive, but you’re paying for the whole park and entertainment... not just one land with two rides, shops, and characters
@@lautrufend exactly
Can we say "Cash Grab".
That second ride really needs to open sooner.
Galaxy edge shopping center. Enjoy.
Disney has no idea what to do with Star Wars. They just saw $$$ signs.
As much as I'd like to get one of their lightsabers, I can probably get better ones for cheaper. I could probably make the body of an r2 unit using craft supplies wood in the trash can for the body and head. and there are probably a million tutorials online for how to make prop Jedi holocrons. Not to mention, I'm sure anyone who's a Star wars fan that has been a fan before 2016; so most of us, probably would rather see the original trilogy or heck even the prequel trilogy in the new trilogy, and considering how Disney hates the prequels this place we've been so much better if it were the original trilogy. Or heck make it slightly after we're training under Luke Skywalker and constructing our lightsabers and maybe we could even partake in the Battle of jakku or something, anyting.
I can not believe they don't have a tree house type area that looks like an Ewok village or something at the very least. Something with suspension bridges and dioramas you can look at inside of trees with singing an 3PO telling stories. I mean even if they just had life size ships you can walk inside of check out. Just areas to play. It just blow my mind there isn't stuff like that.

$1B on a "theme park" that is anything but. As Mark Hamill said: "missed opportunities."
It was nice to hear about the cast member as Rey helping out a lost little girl. That was class! Kudos to that young lady for staying in character, doing her best to entertain the little girl while helping her...especially considering what we've recently heard about working conditions at Disney... at least DisneyLand. I don't know about DisneyWorld.
I’m so sick of what Disney is doing with Star Wars brand
We went to Disney World this past June. We were told from several people (even cast members) that Disney is making it more expensive so that only higher middle class and upper class can only afford it. We were also told that Disney is for kids 7 and up and was designed for older kids and adults.
It's absolutely heartbreaking, as we're getting older I'm noticing that Disney is all about money.
Empty Disneyland has been awesome the last two months. I go once a week.

That Star Wars land cost them a billion dollars? No wonder everything is overpriced. They’re desperate to get their money back.

I can't believe their entire plan was to focus the area on the new trilogy (not the insane 40+ year legacy that's been established), charge insane prices, and have a handful of things to do. Could you imagine going to the magic kingdom, but only thing you could do was go to frontierland? Yikes.
You’re right, visually it’s stunning but it should have been mos eisley on tatooine with original trilogy characters. Merchandise prices are off the scale at GE but I don’t think anyone is surprised at that, childrens activities definitely need addressing.

Pretty late, but basicly Continuity. Batuu is supposed to be set between Ep 8 and 9, during the time the First order is occupying the planet. Do basically its supposed to have you be apart of the story interacting with the characters and such.
There’s nothing wrong with capitalism. Them noticing this and having to change is apart of capitalism.

Ya, capitalism is letting a company fail when they make stupid choices.
It isn’t indiscriminate money exchange. Why don’t people understand this concept?
Capitalism is fine, having zero soul is not.
They are cronies
I know right, ive seen people in other videos blame capitalism too. Capitalism is the free exchange of money and services people are missing the point they are not forced into paying these prices. Park tickets and merchandise in Disneyland are way too high this will keep attendance low and hopefully Disney will learn from this mistake and drop their prices.
Disney: How did this happen? We’re smarter than this!

@@3BuckTheater Nice. I'm personally seeing the Walt Disney World version of it this fall (and hopefully maybe the Annual Passholder preview of the land). I think a big reason why there's not a lot of people there are the ones you said, and that they opened it too early. They should have waited till they had Rise of the Resistance working and open before they launched the lands.
They should have a bunch of R2 droids rolling through the whole area. They'd be great interactive experiences for the kids outside.
I know the blessed things are possible, since I've seen plenty of vids of people who've built high quality remote controlled R2's, Disney could do it if they chose to.

A hundred and fifty smackers to get into a giant gift shop so you can spend MUCH more, and if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a few characters from the sequel trilogy, when you’d much rather see all your favorites from the original trilogy..... What POSSIBLY could have gone wrong?! 😆
An 80 minute wait for Smugglers Run, but the park is empty. Light saber reservations for the day are gone by 7 AM, but the park is empty. Something doesn’t compute. Reminds me of the old Yogi Berra line, “Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.”
The reasons im not at galaxys edge right now, in order -
1) last jedi SEVERELY dimisnished my star wars love. We'll see if Rise of Skywalker cures that.
2) cost. Its basicly $500/day just in park tickets for my family.
3) bad ride-to-merch ratio. Especially galaxys edge. Its essentially "give us $500 for the right to come in here and spend more".
Spending money on things we don't need, paying 12.9% interest on a something that costs $50; and them realize they don't like it when they get home.
Once I found out it was strictly ep7 and ep8 I was out. No Fett no Tks no Vader. No clones. I'm good
They also hate males.
I was hoping for better rides. Something like pirates where you can sit and relax and move through a bunch of scenes throughout the Star Wars movies. It’s a win win because it moves a lot of people easily. Overall it’s just about the bottom line for Disney.
You really think Disney spies weren't at ComiCon?😈😂😂😂😂😂
You know, I love what you can do at Galaxy's Edge, I want to go, I want to build my own lightsaber, ride the Falcon, (hope I'm spelling that right) and just you try and stop me from making a black and yellow/gold droid, I'd love that! I do have to agree that the money they're asking for, is a little wild. For comparison in England, well, Wales, we had the Doctor Who experience and for one adult to go, just one adult it was £14 in advance, £16 on the door. And that allows you to do the interactive adventure, sees all the exhibits in the museum, access the shop and for a little extra you could have your photo taken inside a greenscreen TARDIS, and everyone loved the experience. Granted it wasn't a theme park and there were no rides, but just the experience of seeing these props and sets was worth the price. Now what Disney could've done was gather a load of costumes/props/set for people to look around, take pictures with, have a ride on the Falcon, etc. Then you could pay a little extra for the building sections. And while I like the Sequels, they probably should've made this a collection of all things Star Wars and just having things they used on set on display there from the OT and PT would've made the whole experience more worth it. Especially if they had a section that played clips from the films, and maybe some behind the scenes of Clone Wars and Rebels, just in case anyone was interested in how that all works.
I also want to go to Disney and do that but it’s so expensive it’s over 200 pound to just make a good lightsaber
The should put in a couple of small rides like a landspeeder ride with different types of vehicles or some other interactive themed outside moving rides.

Oh comic con is a ripoff too bud
One does not make the other any less a rip off.

Perhaps 276 before it’s sold out. Yet clearly you’re not getting anything close to that after it sells out. They have 2020 already for 1000 from brokers.
Every one says that episode 9 is the end of the Skywalker saga, but has ended with the return of the jedi. Just sayin'

"It could be any Wookie that happens to wear a Bandolier" So, every Wookie Adult then?
It used to be canon that wookies would descend to the forest floor to hunt a certain spider for its silk to make the bandolier. The forest floor is very dangerous (why they live in the canopy) and it was a right of passage into adulthood. I believe I read that in the young Jedi series when Lobacca (chewie's nephew) had to do this. But this is no longer canon.
They gave us SW land but forgot to add SW 😂
LOL ! I was looking at a Satanic Rosary online at Satans Wholesale Halloween when you said, 'goddamn' : ) What are the odds ?!

Universal is also expensive but people are flocking to it, more value.
Busch Gardens in Tampa is far cheaper and much more fun for the entertainment dollar
They should've just called it "Sequel Trilogy Overpriced Shopping Mall". What a disgrace and a HUGE waste of money.
Multiply the prices for a big family but also, let’s not forget the people who come from all over the world and the variations between currencies. It’s a big deal.
I had reservations when I started watching this clip. But in the end, I COMPLETELY agreed with you. Thank you!

I agree with you I can't deal with a lot of people either!!!!
You just said EVERY point that I have made. I made reservations before the general public and told all of my friends “it’s a themed outdoor mall” that’s literally ALL Galaxy’s Edge is. Nothing more. Thank for your solidifying my thoughts! Galaxy’s Edge is a “we are trying to make more money- flop”
This just sounds like a random low level castmember that doesn’t know what they are talking about.
Galaxy’s Edge’s biggest disadvantage is the fact that it’s just in the sequel era. I’m actually someone who enjoys the sequel era, but I also acknowledge that a huge majority of people don’t, and would rather see stuff fit the prequel and OG. That’s why Star Tours is great! Disney needs to add more variety (and less expensive admission) to this attraction. Maybe then it’ll be enjoyed more!
So your on-the-ground journalism uncovers the fact that Galaxy's Edge is 1) expensive, and 2) uninteresting.
Duh.

He enjoyed it and there are items that have been sold out that are back in stock that he wanted. It's not for kids who are really young. People don't get the point. They want a few carnival rides for a carnival price. This isn't Magic Mountain.
@@ttninjaxx do kids want to ride the canoes? They have to paddle which means work. G; E is no different than any other land
I agree. Other than Galaxy's Edge being a visual smorgasbord, Disney's greed knows no bounds...
Well Disney is a corporation, and by that definition they are pychopathic.
Swallowing up franches and studios you didn't see this coming?
Volume Dealer 🤣🤣
And this is why you stay in school kids.
As much as I don't like Star Wars/Disney anymore, hearing about "Rey" comforting a little girl who lost her family is a lovely visual. Props to that actress :D
They also banned smoking and removed their smoking sections. I’ve read many posts on forums from smokers/vapors that vowed to never return.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland has to be one of the most immersive and entertaining experiences I’ve ever had in a theme park. There is such attention to detail and the ambiance is impeccable.
My wife and I were stopped by Kylo Ren and a pair of Storm Troopers and we were asked if we would answer the First Order’s call to serve. I was hesitant given that we had just literally interacted with Rey and Chewbacca down the path from The Black Spire towards the Resistance area where they are finishing construction on their newest ride. To my surprise my wife immediately agreed to join the First Order. My hesitance led to suspicion and Kylo Ren ordered that our “data pads” be analyzed and purged.
You can build your own Droid, walk around a life sized, docked Millennium Falcon, try some local cuisine at Ronto’s, go to the Cantina (which sadly was busy enough to be reservation only all day) or stroll the bazaar through many unique stores with unique storekeepers with their own personalized stories.
My wife and I delved into the backstories that each cast member in the sector had prepared. They told us stories of their original homes off planet and their feelings about the First Order‘s recent occupation and the Resistance. We were encouraged to try the local delicacy of Banthu Milk in either the blue or green varieties. We opted to try both and it was interesting for sure. My wife described the unique texture as a “fuzzy snow cone” by the way the milk coated the tongue.
Overall it was an incredible experience that I would recommend for any Star Wars fan!
There are already 3 fan-made 'Star Wars' theme park maps on the internet that look cooler, so that probably says something.
This actually makes so much sense. Its centered more around the collectors with some spending money rather than kids. This place has two rides total, one of which doesnt open till who know and the rest is literally shopping and eating. It's literally The Mall of a Galaxy Far Far Away
They just don't get it, continuing to disrespect the original Legacy characters oh that's really going to encourage the fandom to want to come to this attraction.
Did you know The Last Jedi movie was made to cater this Galaxy Edge? It's in the Disney marketing of any kid/s can be a Jedi, just for entrance fee + 200$ for the saber + etcs. for a total of billions of dollars that Disney needed to just break even.
Lower pricing equals $10 million is yearly executive bonuses, raise price's equals $60 million in yearly executive bonuses. That's an easy decision to make right?
I walked in the Disney World version and 15 minutes later was walking out. Not interested in shopping. No shows. No characters. One cast member asked if I wanted to pet whatever stupid puppet he was holding. It’s a shopping mall in the Vegas desert.
That’s because none of the corporate hacks have an imagination. It’s all about the bottom line for these people that run Disney. Walt is rolling in his grave.
