Most people collect 20th century coinage like Indian and Lincoln cents, Buffalo nickels, Mercury dimes, and Morgan and Peace dollars. If you look back to the 1800’s a collector can find some interesting and affordable coins in the Liberty Seated and Barber coin series. You will be amazed how rare some of the coins that are available compared to their more popular counterparts. John Frost is an expert in both series of coinage as Education of Director Liberty of Seated Collectors Club and President of the Barber Coin Collectors Society. Let him introduce you these numismatic opportunities.

For commonly used coins I find liberty seated to be top 3 for me. I also think they are very undervalued in most cases.

Great overview and I agree with the points you made. I for one collect these 2 series Seated and Barber primarily and really enjoy the design, rarity, and the fact these are older then the more popular series. Popularity affects price far more then rarity for many reasons

Great information! I have not started to collect Barber dimes but think I will soon. The design is very cool not to mention that it is still a popular coin amongst collectors.

Saying that there will be less collectors in 20 years is speculation. We need to get the younger generations interested in coins. Part of this is being nice to younger folks. So often I hear that they feel left out. If 2 guys come up to a table at the same time dealers are more likey to speak to the older gentlemen. i.e. they probably have more money to spend.
