Have you had to deal with negativity about your gray hair or has it been smooth sailing so far? Let me know!

♫💜I usually only receive compliments even by strangers who go out of their way to communicate… So when I did receive a comment suggesting age my response was “Since childhood I knew I’d never want to cover my future silver locks not only because I prefer not to be fake… but also because I LOVE GLITTER. It makes everything beautiful” LoL

Ty Katie for helping me courageously just let my dark brown with some surprising silvers more in some places than other lol. I had been lied to all this time by my very expensive salon colorist who has been my colorist for over 10 yrs. I found out I was turning silver by accident after back in February 2024 when having a friend check on my stitches on top of my head after having a Benin Pilar cyst removed. Had her take pics to verify and was like OMG I'm turning silver and my colorist had been lying to keep in coming back for partial blonde highlights! Its been a journey of feelings lol. I have stuck to it though to embrace my roots lol. Decided to just let it grow and do nothing but an occasional self trim of my long straight fine hair ! Still go through some emotions of geez I am old lol but I am 66 lol. Just going to keep on this embraced version of the new me and be the unapologetic new Rebel I'm becoming! Ty once again for ur inspiring videos 🎉

Hi, Lynda! You're welcome -that's so nice to hear!
That stinks about your colorist lying to you - ugh! I'm glad you found out. And glad you're enjoying the new you!

Thanks Katie for your videos. Silver hair shouldn’t really be an issue with anyone when you think about it, it shouldn’t have to be talked about, however, there are a lot of screwed up people who just can’t mind there own concerns and accept that silver hair is as natural as the air we breath and yet nobody questions that! I am transitioning and I don’t give a flying fig if people like it or not; I am nearly 62 mind you and have the right to be grey or silver, whatever you want to call it. I have to be honest that I would have found it difficult when I was a bit younger as I gave up colouring my hair a year ago. I used to wish silver hair would come into fashion so I could stop coloring it, and now a lot of youngsters have the silver too so that proves how cool it looks. Love and respect to you ❤

Exactly this - it shouldn't even be talked about. It's a natural hair colour!

I agree - silver hair is just another hair color and not a big deal - it's so crazy that it generates controversy among people! ARGH.

My favorite reply (educational category) is to look them in the eye & say: “ I realized I was fooling absolutely nobody when I was dyeing my hair, including myself.” If the shoe fits…😂

I found my first gray hair when I was 15 - I cried because I knew it meant I had received my dad's genes. He was completely silver haired by the time he was 40. When the gray started becoming more prominent in my 20s I did get some rude comments and thus started my dyeing merry-go-round for the next 30-odd years. Earlier this year I turned 60 and thought - NO MORE!! As I have very thick hair each visit to the hairdresser takes at least 3 hours and is quite expensive. I have better things to spend my time and money on! Going gray has been a very liberating experience and everyone has been very positive - at least to my face! 😂😂 I'm definitely not going back. Your suggested replies to the very rude people who would make such comments are priceless 😁

Isn't it so nice to be off that dyeing hamster wheel? And to end up with pretty silver hair - priceless!
I'm so glad you liked the responses to rude people! :-) I can never think quickly on my feet when I've been insulted, so it helps to have these responses ready!

Love these vids! 😆 I am 62 and have silver hair down to my tailbone and I get more flack about the length than the color. I have no idea if it's really the length or the "appropriateness" for my age, but I just say "Yes. It is." Then I move on 😂

I think the rude comments ALWAYS come from someone's own insecurities about graying. Maybe some people might even be a little jealous that they don't have the nerve to do it themselves. I'm only 5 months in myself and finding it easier than I thought it would be. When I pull my hair back, I now have FREE silver highlights against brunette hair which is kinda cool.

It IS cool, isn't it? I couldn't believe how much fun I had seeing it grow in - after all those years of dreading it.

Your hair is positively outrageously gorgeous. It’s GOOD hair, mine is like barbed wire. I am so envious of that hair. Stunning. DO NOT CUT IT PLEASE!!!!!

It's interesting how many people think grey or white hair is associated with being 'old' age-wise, when every single woman I know started going grey in their 20s, a few in their teens. And then they want to put their own insecurities onto the person just letting their hair do its thing - its an extremely odd mentality. You nailed it with that. Although I do also blame the marketing we were all bombarded with for most of our lives 'Dye your hair! DYE YOUR HAIR! GREY IS BAD!' 😂
As you've said many times - its a personal choice, and nothing to do with anyone else.

I'm 70 and have been graying very slowly since my 50s and would never go back to coloring it again. I've also cut and styled my own since I enjoy doing it. Don't know if anyone else has brought this up, but could it be the length of the hair more than the fact it's gray be the main reason for getting "rude" comments? In other words, does long gray hair that you allow to just hang down and get in your eyes or mouth in particular cause more negative comments than if you kept it back or up and neatly styled? The only time in my life I let my hair grow beyond my shoulders was in my 50s, and I truly looked and felt older, and it did drag my face down. I've always been physically active and couldn't stand it hanging down, so I'd usually wear it up and in a French twist or a braid. After about a year of that aggravation and of needing to pull those long hairs out of the shower drain (yuck), I cut it way shorter and got compliments again. Yep, I'm a short hair fan, and I do like some of the 50s vintage styles and old school rolling, but to each her own. I have an 85-year-old aunt who razzes me every time she sees me because I quit coloring my hair ages ago.

Based on what i hear from my subscribers, gray hair of any length gets commented on (mainly because people see it as a marker of old age). But yes - if you combine people's prejudice against gray hair with prejudice against long hair, you get a double whammy of comments.
People simply shouldn't comment on people's hair choices. If some woman wants to wear her long gray hair hanging straight down, that's her choice. Nobody's business.

So I newly let my gray roots grow out, then I bleached out the colored hair and toned it. It was awesome! Silver and shiny, but in 2-3 weeks it started yellowing and looks like a platinum blonde. Now I have to tone again to get the silver or platinum color I’m looking for. Is anyone else in the same boat?

My natural brown and gray hair is bleached by a pro, therefore I use silver products, protecting it from yellow. I grow out for nearly three months and celebrate it. Good silver shampoo etc. support my journey and my hair is wonderful ashy. 🩶💜🩶 Maybe you like to try....
