  • Hey ya’ll! We are going to make Southern Baked Candied Yams: iheartrecipes.com/baked-candi...
My southern baked candied yams recipe is an easy one. It is more of a southern and soul food version. I use garnet yams, which are red sweet potatoes. The candied mixture for my baked yams is made out of butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and other spices. After I make the candied mixture, I pour it over the yams, and bake the candied yams until they are super tender. This recipe is the perfect dish to cook for the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Find the exact measurements here: iheartrecipes.com/baked-candi...

This recipe is THE TRUTH! Prior to this video, I’ve only made canned candied yams (that’s how the home cooks in my family taught me 🤷🏽‍♀️), and this was my first attempt at using fresh yams. Fresh is the way to go and way healthier than loading up the canned version with additional sugar & syrup. They surprisingly cooked pretty fast in the oven, were tender, and oh so flavorful! Thank you for the wonderful recipe hun! My husband loved it and went back for seconds!
I didn’t have cloves on hand, used country crock instead of butter, and cut my yams into cubes (still turned out fantastic!)

I like pineapple too, a little bit of crushed. I also like a little lemon sometimes.
I layer my sweet potatoes in a pan with the sugar and spices, I put pats on butter all over and simmer until it is syrupy. You can shake the pan every now and then. Been doing that for about 40 years.

I've been using her recipe for 4 years now and everyone loves them. The only thing i do different is boil my yams for about 20 mins before putting the sauce on top and putting them in the oven. When i tried it her way, the yams were still just a little to hard for my liking, other then that, her recipe is the bomb.com

@@aesco05 I couldn't either 😭, and I had to double the recipe. It's good now though, just in case you have to make some for a holiday party or Christmas...print it out or screenshot it lol 😆 (I'm about to do that now).

I used "imitation vanilla" extract because it's all I had left, and I wasn't about to run out to the store. This dish was still delicious!

I know this is an old recipe, but I am trying these yams for the first time-day before Easter. I love candied yams, and while I am a great cook, candied yams was the only recipe I failed to perfect before my mom’s death in 2017. Seeing this brought back memories and allowed me to continue her legacy in the kitchen. My yams are in the oven right now. Thank you.

I don't know how my grandmother made hers, but when she did it, she had chewy , candied edges when she made it! Should have gotten her secret before she passed away 😢

My Momma always added pineapple chunks and some of the juice, not syrup, to the mix so I have always done that, but I love how you did yours!
