  • We have found a REAL fix to the chronic problem of Chevrolet Corvette C7 Z06 models with automatic transmissions overheating under extreme track conditions.
    Tim Lally Chevrolet took an immaculate 2018 Corvette Z06 3LZ automatic in on trade on a new Corvette C8. Mike Lally, owner and racing instructor / enthusiast had, like others who tracked Corvette Z06 models, been vexed by the overheating issues that would put the Z06 in "Limp Mode" during extreme track sessions. He turned to Service Manager Jim Lamtman and GM Master Technician and Corvette Specialist Rick Sedivy and together they set out to take this Corvette Z06 trade and fix the overheating issue. With help from Jim Casey and the body shop skills of Chuck Kuhn Jr., they would find a solution for the problem of Corvettes going into "Limp Mode".
    The 2018 Corvette, nicknamed "Frankenstein" or the "Frankenvette" was dismantled and many of it components re-engineered. The team was looking for a fix that could be easily duplicated and accessible to Corvette owners of all levels, so they re-purposed GM sports car components for the Corvette and Camaro.
    Mike Lally personally tested their fix on the track. The result? Incredible track times with no excessive or atypical heat build up. It was tested on several tracks with several different drivers. With no overheating issues, the Tim Lally Performance Team has declared the problem solved.
    For those interested, the fix can be applied to his/her Corvette Z06 for about $9500 complete. Contact Jim Lamtman, Service Manager at Tim Lally Chevrolet to get an estimate for your individual Corvette.

    Wow love that solution. Cleanest I have seen. Looks better than the ZR1 solution. I love that the hood scoop is functional.
    You should simply sell the hood and front facia (with holes precut). I would actually paint those screens carbon flash though.

    Does the Z06 have problems with overheating as a daily driver in the summer 95-degree days in city driving or in sto['n go traffic?

    • @coletrick8748
      @coletrick8748 15 дней назад

      No, it has problems at high rpm’s for minutes at a time... track use or hardcore street use. Now if you’re in 95 degree weather stop n go traffic for 2 hours straight I am not sure.

    Yeah the real solution is just to get a manual as Chevy intended

      Funny you say that. Ford has been making great autos for decades why GM cannot is beyond my understanding.
      Ford and GM worked together to design the 10spd Camaro tranny. I hear it is great.
      Thankful to have what I have tho.

    I understand if anyone changes the tune on a Z06, chevy will not honor their engine warranty. what about this cooling upgrade?

    • @TimLallyChevrolet
      @TimLallyChevrolet  3 года назад

      Excellent question! Because we did not crack open the engine our modifications affected only breathing and cooling there should be no issues with the engine or transmission warranty. (Service Manager used to be a GM Field Engineer)

    im looking into getting a c7 z06..... what would be the result of running 60% water mix in the car. my understanding is that the water does the cooling and the rest of it is the corrosion inhibitors and antifreeze.
    Would a 60% mixture ruin those properties?

    • @TimLallyChevrolet
      @TimLallyChevrolet  2 года назад +1

      Great question! Changing the mixture from 50/50 to 60/40 over a two gallon capacity will really make no difference whatsoever. In fact, it is the plumbing routing and heat exchangers architecture that has the most dramatic effect on cooling ability. Even running 100% water is not going to have a dramatic impact. We recommend you stick to the manufacturer recommendations and if you are running your machine hard to make sure you keep your coolant system well flushed and clean! Thank you for asking!

      Glad to hear our Corvette enthusiasts around they country have access to solutions that help them get the most from their vehicles. Our goal was to make sure we stayed with GM parts and found a solutions that should not impact any warranty claims.

    • @nyplantingsgardendesigners5645
      @nyplantingsgardendesigners5645 3 года назад

      LG is great and has tons of experience but the mods they propose mean more intrusive cuts than this. Also, the price is not less if installed.
      Furthermore, the LG setup is a race focused setup and I don't think it helps low speed cooling such as heavy traffic.
      Still, I would trust LG and these guys both.

    shame. That is a lot of modification that will not be shared to all z06 owners. Wondering if the blower itself is to small and inefficient that causes a lot of overheating.

      The shift points on the automatic are very well programmed. Plus, the car learns your driving style and will actually shift differently as it "learns" the driver!

      Hey Shav, I love a good manual as much as anyone. But with this cooling solution only I’m 1.5 seconds per lap faster in this car than a similar manual Z06. And I’ll generally run whatever gives me faster lap times. Love my manual tranny, but love saving those seconds more
