Really loving the split screens, Sir Sean! This episode was great; although I know the one thing that might poke at me is how Laena ninja'd her way to Vhagar in her state. Lady must have super powers. 😂 Minor detail, I know, but things like that always bug me more on rewatch.
Everyone at the start of the show: Otto is the new Littlefinger!
**Larys Strong enters**
"The Queen makes a wish."
Oh gosh, they aren't ready for the Otto/Clubfoot combo
Otto striked more like Tywin lannister to me
Lyonel Strong was as honorable as Ned Stark, too bad he had a son with a littlefinger
Yeah... tbh i think Larys is more scarier than littlefinger “at least for me” he scared the hell out of me this episode... i mean killing your father and brother just like this is so cold and scary
But was a boring character
Also as stupid as Ned
It seems that since he's a crippled and therefore can't fit into the traditional and "honorable" mold of what it is to be a man in those days he was probably more or less neglected and forgotten. But this was a grave mistake as he's shown to be much more powerful than any of his family members could have ever fathomed. Men of those times, and even still to day, only think of power in very overt ways like strength and money. But power comes in many forms (many subtle forms) and Larys knows this. It's commendable how he didn't let his disability hinder him, but it's also terrifying what he has become.
Littlefinger + Varys = Larys. Seems about right 😂
Vhagar hesitating to lady laena’s call is heartbreaking…😢
Vhagar wasn't hesitant... her "dracarys" sounds really bad the poor dragon wasn't able to get it right away.
@@AndrewBoniface09 what a weird take
@@pugmantee7409 Agreed. Seriously off. It was obvious that Vhagar didn't want to do it because they are bonded.
@@AndrewBoniface09 never try to talk while crying? Prolly u new to this world so lemme tell you, the dragons and targaryen are bonded, they can feel the pain of their riders.
And not even a single scream from her. :(
Alicent made a deal with the devil and can’t get out 😂
She's definitely in over her head with Larys. I don't think Otto can manage him either.
We got a new Pinky
@@melissablackwood my question is what authority does Larys Strong hold that he can grant clemency? I mean is it just simple bribery?
@@hellfish2309 He's Master of Laws, so he does have that authority.
Edit: He's Lord Confessor.
@@hellfish2309 also wouldn’t he be the new heir of harrenhal?
I love the complicated relationships they've portrayed here. Daemon loves Laena. It might not be 'true love' or maybe not even 'in love' but he trusts her, respects her, and ultimately chose to save her over their child, where Viserys could not. Viserys said he loved his wife often. Daemon didn't need to say it in a single act. You can also tell that Rhaenyra and Laenor love each other, not in love, not a romantic love. But they trust each other. It's nice to see these many different shades of gray and a realistic spectrum of what love can actually look like.
Lol there is no way to save Aemma, its either she die or she and the baby die.
@@clarencehalbay6042 That's not how the Maester framed it. It was a choice and he needed a male heir. Aemma said she was done with birthing. The baby just didn't survive, ultimately.
@Aneki Ryota yeah, Laena would have died, as well. because if the baby could not come out and could not be removed ...it would die inside of her and eventually turned septic which will kill her. So she was going to die anyway. So she took control and went out the way she wanted to go out.
Rhaenyra and Laenor love each other so much, Rhaenyra used her power to force Laenor at her side, throwing at his face that he doesn't care about his duty, partying and running away when he is needed. Also they didn't got the job done and provided a legit heir to Rhaenyra, which just weakens her claim and is the reason of everything bad in this ep. They truly love each other.
@@Curtis006 It is how the maester framed it. He said the king could either save the child by cutting her open or lose them both
No one’s mentioning how daemon had an actual reaction to Laena’s death and stumbled a bit, it shows he does in fact love her
I wouldn't say "love". She was his only option. He couldn't get with Rhaenyra so he choice her. Laena literally says in the episode that she isn't the wife that Daemon wishes for himself. He likes her, but isn't in love.
It shows he is not without a heart an that he cares about family.
@@wali8253 Stop projecting mutt, lmao. He definitely loves her
@@wali8253 they left and cut a lot of scenes of daemon and leana together and in the books daemon actually did care for her. So sure you know everything
@@wali8253 You blind.
Daemon maybe an egocentric and maniac in his days, but he'll never harm his own family (Rhea, her first wife isn't exactly a family because it was political marriage, and he didn't choose her himself), yet Larys did it without any remorse. Looks like Viserys so-called plague isn't his brother, but his wife's littlefinger
lol nice copy paste. what a boring life
He's fucking his own daughters in books. Stop that copy past sin washing
Stop justifying murder just because you like someone.
The dude murdered his wife with a rock... Why are people so hell-bent on finding heroes and villains in this story?
He's a sociopath but his god complex is extended to all his relatives (aside Alicent's kids, as they are half Hightowers "impure"), because he think Targaryens are god-men. So themselves are the only people who could really relate to.
Lady Laena went out on her own terms, like a dragon rider. Respect. Much better than her death in the book. Only wish we could’ve spent more time with her.
How did she die in the books?
@@gustavomatos7338 she tries to do what she did but doesnt make it all the way. Daemon finds her and brings her back to the bed
Her death was better in books
@@gustavomatos7338 Fire & Blood depicts Laena as having struggled through a day and night of labor, only to give birth to a disfigured child who died within an hour of being born. Laena lost all of her strength and now weighed down with heavy grief after the death of her third child, came down with childbed fever; she died after three days of sickness.
Lmao it is not better than the books. This looks visually better but makes no sense. They butchered her character here. Her death wasn't guaranteed and Daemon wasn't going to cut her open. So without knowing the facts she killed herself, her unborn baby and left her children not to mention she walked away with people watching her after trying to get birth. None of this makes any sense but it is better ? lmao
15:31 reminiscent of when Ned tells Jon: “you are a Stark.”
Yeah, maybe not so much especially when you put it in the context that Jon was never really bastard. Team Green!!!
@@johnnyb3663 With the context we know, its so sad how Ned had to keep it a secret from everyone he knew, even his wife who thought he slept with another woman. For the first time, he chose love over honor.
@@johnnyb3663he was tho. Atleast in the books his father already had a wife & yet he ran away with that stark woman& had aegon/jon with her (he already had kids with his wife too). So aegon/jon is a Targaryen bastard
Damn laena's scene was so powerful! U can feel the pain in both human and dragon and their bond, the way vhaergar was whining and then knowing her suffrance, im sure that she is in pain for the loss of her rider.
She was gonna die anyways should have tried to save the baby.
Also Vhagar is the last of the great 3 dragons of conquest and she is the mightiest dragon during this time and Vhagar has seen both of her sibling dragons pass away(Balerion by old age and Meraxes by scorpion bolt to the eye) and she had three riders(Visenya & Baelon Targrayen and Laena Valeryon) all dead and you can tell that Vhagar didn't want to burn Laena. But her rider was in pain and losing a child was too much and so Vhagar granted her third rider mercy and burned her alive. So Vhagar is sad and alone in that world and she along with the current dragons are going to be the tragedy of this era and it will be sad to witness.
As Daemon said "My brave girl" 😢
Rip Laena (wish we got more of her)
Also Harwin..
Both Daemon and Rheanyra losing their partners and parents of their children this ep
Alicent is just jealous because Rhanerya gets to do whatever she wants including having illegitimate children and continue living her Hot dragon life with Ser Harwin Break Beds
Or it could be the fact that Rhanerya lied against her own mother's name right in Alicents face.
@@kis4659 No Alicent is jealous.. she even said as much in episode 7 .. she is jealous that Rhanerya gets to do whatever she wants and she has always been dutiful and her life has been miserable.. its pretty straight forward.. Alicent literally is going to lock the people that are Team Black in their room and seize the throne.. Please SPARE ME!!
Everyone: "Otto is the new Littlefinger". Larys: "Hold my beer."
Man, even Ramsey Bolton at the bar was overwhelmed by this scene. (13:17)
I noticed the similarities as well. I was wondering if it was actually him lol
I look at all these people that come and watch in the bar, so many varieties, and yet everyone is good with one another. That is beautiful.
Me too, and so intent on watching without disruption. I've tried a bar watch twice and it was so loud and disruptive I could barely hear any of the show.
The real heartbreaking moment was when Vhagar hesitates to follow the command to burn Lady Laena, so saddening... 😢😢
16:26 "pack your boyfriend we're leaving"
🤣
Morgan looked like she actually got phsyically punched in the gut when Hawin said "I will be a stranger when we meet again" haha
She knew he was on his way to meet The Stranger. RIP Ser Harwin & Lord Lyonel.
@@melissablackwood Of the two, I'll only miss Lord Lyonel. One of the few honestish people in Game of Thrones.
Alicent is so incredibly short sighted. She asks for things that would start a war and would get people killed and then acts surprised when war begins and people actually die 😂
She did not ask Larys to murder Lord Strong and his heir lol, that’s why she is shocked. Alicent is all prim and proper (or likes to believe she is) and struggles to come to terms that one of her only allies at court and probably her best friend became a kinslayer, the highest sin of Westeros, allegedly at her behalf. And not only that, but Alicent also became an accomplice in kinslaying. This is not what she wanted and it’s an important turning point to her character, forced by Larys.
The best is how she is all mighty and "I hope honor will prevail" while surrounding herself with murderers.
@@rakdar1714 lmfao she’s prim and proper but will stand there and watch her son jack off, will abuse her children, and will suggest bringing in her father as the Hand. Like babes you’re just as willfully ignorant as she is if you think she’s some innocent bystander in all of this. She’s the pot stirrer. larys didn’t force her to do shit.
@@TheOriginalDogLP Well, the question is what will she do now that Larys has done this on her behalf. To Alicent's mind, Cristen Cole was justified in killing Joffrey so she wouldn't see that as murder.
She became a petty, vindictive, selfish, unreasonable, envious, paranoid, unfounded B I T C H
That ending was so Shakespearean. Vibes of Richard III and the plotting in King Lear
Laena died a dragon riders death and in her own tearms 👏 She made a choice and Daemon didn't do it for her (even tho you could see he would refuse to cut her open)
Anyway we're expecting menace Daemon back in action next ep now and can't wait to see all the kids more
no spoilers, daemon the menace will be back more surprising than ever.
@@crystall.411 lol is it Laenor related or there is more? 👀
The sad thing is, Aegon, Aemond, Lucerys, and Jacaerys were friends (well maybe not Aemond. He appears to be the "butt of the joke" friend), and their parents, more Alicent than anyone, are pitting them against each other. It makes sense from Alicent's perspective why she'd think the way she does. She exists within this power structure, and uses it the way she was taught, by enforcing it. Rhaenyra bucks against the society she lives in, and because we know that society is so wrong, many feel inclined to be more supportive of her. I personally support her, but I can see the other side and that there is pragmatic merit to it. But to actively poison your sons against their friends is deeply wrong.
Daemon was fascinating this episode. He clearly has affection and respect for Laena, despite that it seems their union is more of a beneficial partnership than a great love, and also seems to be very close to Baela (named after his father, Baelon the Brave. Both Viserys and Daemon seem to have been deeply affected by his passing. He must have been a remarkable man), his older daughter. But he also seems very emotionally closed off at times, and also seems to neglect his younger daughter Rhaena. The final scene with him and Laena during her birth was so tragic. He was present for the birth of his child, unlike Viserys with Aemma and Laenor with Rhaenyra. And presented with the same decision as his brother, he doesn't make the same mistake. You can see he shakes his head. But Laena overheard them, and made the decision herself. Something tells me this is the event that truly affects Daemon, setting him on a different path. RIP to Laena, rider of Vhagar. A true Valyrian Dragon Rider.
It's survival for Alicent. Rhaenyra's kids will eventually murder her kids no matter how hard Rhaenyra bucks against the system. As Otto Hightower said, Rhaenyra will have no choice and Alicent knows it. So, knowing the inevitable outcome, she prepares as best she can. Had Rhaenyra had actual Targaryen children, maybe they'd have a chance to intermarry and fix the problem but it's too late now.
The cadence/enunciation of Larys Strong’s voiceover (near the end of the episode), is reminiscent of Voldemort’s in the Battle of Hogwarts when he recalls his army. Cold-hearted.
If I don't see little Gomez in every single video from now on - I may call my banners and revolt. He is my king from this day until his last day.
Laena had me sobbing with the bar :( :( powerful scene
She was gonna die anyways should have tried to save the baby
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the pace was a little too fast this episode. Wish we had gotten to know Harwin an Laena a little better, but oh well at least I get to enjoy Morgan's (edit: and Gomez's) reactions lol
I’ve felt like the pacing in general has been so fast. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still enjoying it, but we have jumped ALL OVER THE PLACE and we’ve skipped quite a bit of plot and character development, in my opinion 🤷🏼♀️
@@itsthatgirl98_ I don't think we will be seeing more of him tbh. I think it also said on IMDB that Emma D'Arcy will be in 6 episodes but she wasn't in the other episodes before ep 6. I agree! It was like they only gave us one crumb and then took the whole bread away. Very unfortunate since we as an audience didn't get the chance to empathize with his character like we did with Ned Stark for example in s1 of GoT who also died very quickly. Then again, Harwin was only mentioned briefly in the book so maybe this is why the showrunners wanted to get rid of him fast
@@friendlymushroom716 yeah for sure. I didn't really mind tho the first 5 episodes since the smaller time jumps made sense overall. This episode however went too fast regardless of the 10 year time jump in my opinion. It made it quite overwhelming to follow as a watcher. Maybe an episode a few years before ep 6 would've been nice in between so that we could have gotten to know Harwin, Lyonel and Laena a little better. They couldv'e showed a little more of all their relationships. I think the showrunners are trying to move as fast as the book instead of adding more nuance to the backstory. It seems like they want to get to the Dance of the Dragons/the civil war as fast as possible. Hopefully the pace will be better moving forward. We'll see!
@@monajoy I have heard that there should be one more small time jump then it should be steady from there. I do feel like the last two episodes were too much too fast (at least the end of the previous), leaving a lot of gaps for us to make assumptions about.
@@venusbrownreacts yeah I've heard that too since there are older actors for the kids so that makes sense. I assume it will happen this coming Sunday's episode. Very excited to see how things turn out from here on. I agree it was just a lot all at once

They probably just get there early and sit in their preferred spots lol
Think same guys are part of the gang, they are getting the front seats
Of course there are assigned favorites. You can tell some people would throw a tantrum like a child if they don’t get their expected chair.
Yeah that's the only thing about these reactions that I actually don't enjoy. They should let different people sit in the front row during every episode. Just freshen things up a bit, because it's getting very predictable and boring.

They both lied but her actions were worse.
This show is going to break our hearts in a royal way ....
Rainira offered the ideal option of a truce and family cohesion through marriage, as Carlos once suggested to Viserys...And both refused and this led to disastrous consequences, the circle repeats, Alicent is paranoid!
Otto may have taken the offer
To be fair Alicent and everyone else knows that Rhaenyra’s sons are bastards and it’s kind of insulting of her to never acknowledge that and offer engaging Alicents daughter to a bastard
No one in Alicent's position would accept Rhaenyra's offer since her children aren't legitimate. Alicent's children are true-born Targaryens while Rhaenyra's are not. No chance in hell would she marry them. Alicent is way too "proper" to accept that deal even if it solves the pragmatic issue.

I wish we could have more time with Harwin and Laena. Chad and Wonder Woman.
Mothers dying in the effort to try and birth children that are Targaryen is really one of the central plot lines of this whole series. Leana was half Targaryen but even she couldn’t survive the effort of delivering a male child that was pure Targaryen. Her daughters had far more of her bloodline in them than Daemons, hence their easy birth. The book even mentions how much they resemble their grandfather, Lord Corlys. Look at Jon Snows mother. His birth killed her as she wasn’t Targaryen at all. Theirs is a magical bloodline and it drains the mother’s life force or something. Pure Targaryens can really only breed pure Targaryens with other pure Targaryens. So many non Targaryens died in childbirth if you read ‘Fire & Blood’ carefully!!
Aegon's Blackwood wife did alright didn't she?
Alicent survived
Exactly my reaction in the death by fire scene. HOTD just like it's predecessor keeps on messing up with the fan's feeling.

I'm trying to figure out how Layna got past Daemon since he was in the room with her. I would've liked seeing her tell him she wanted a dragon riders death. He then could've helped her walk out to Vhagar and the scene would play out as shown.

I'm hearing a ton of complaints about this show. I can't understand where the frustration is and why people think there is no plot. I was hooked from the beginning!
It is skipping a lot from the book, some of which already had gaps we would have like answered rather than completely skipped over. Plus, the big time jumps are a bit challenging, adding more unexplained gaps. The show is definitely very good, but we would like certain characters developed more and gaps filled.
