There are so many moments in our lives where we’re faced between serving ourselves or serving others, and many times, to get what we want, we may tend towards deception to achieve it. In this video, Deceit returns and presents his case for why we shouldn’t inhibit these tendencies, and Thomas has a conflict of conscience! Hope you enjoy the turmoil that ensues!

honestly I love the little details, when Deceit is disguised as Logan, he:
1.was wearing the wrong tie
2. stood up from bending over at the side, trying to make it look like he rose up
3. was also slightly wobbly
4. yelled "LIES" instead of "FALSEHOOD"

I love that deceit makes everyone ELSE swear to tell the truth by putting their hands on the book but he doesnt actually do it himself. His cheeky “I know I do” is a great little hint to that.

Compromise: Thomas skips the wedding for the audition. However, Thomas calls his friends and takes them out to a super fancy restaurant, and give the wedding gift there. They'll understand if you need to do something for your career, and they'll appreciate that you took the time to consider them

That's exactly what I was saying like how come they get to have their happy day that makes the rest of their life and Thomas cant just bc they're his friends. Like what they said wasnt a compromise it was a sacrifice. In short, I was on deceits side the whole time
Justine Hornberger I frickin' love that idea. They each get their big days, but still acknowledge each others big day in a special way.
As much as I love this idea, would both parties realistically feel good about it? (Character) Thomas may still feel guilt for skipping the event, and while Lee and Mary Lee might agree to the terms, would it really make up for their friend missing their big day? Even if Lee and Mary Lee say they understand the situation, they might not and will feel upset about the decision made. In the span of things, they most likely would get over it, but people tend to prioritize feelings in the moment rather than in the future.
Deceit hopping around from "lying isn't always bad because it freed Europe from N*zi control" to "We live in a society" is the reason why he's my favorite character.

Well, as we see, Deceit is less just being dishonest, more just self interest and self preservation.
I love how Deceit then starts pushing Virgil about how reluctant he was to share his name. As the audience when this video came out, we assumed it was due to how big of a moment it was for Virgil and that he didn't like Deceit mentioning it for his own gain. But then we hit the current timeline and realise that Virgil was terrified that if Deceit continued down that path, he might also reveal that Virgil was originally a Dark Side and the Thomas in this video did not know that information at the time.

Just throwing this out there: If one of my friends passed up an opportunity like that to attend my wedding, even though they didn't really want to, I would be horrified. In this hypothetical situation, I'd likely stay married for some time after the wedding--it's not like it's a one-time-only opportunity to celebrate my marital status. They could come by for cake and sentiment some other time. Not a big deal.

It's crazy that despite literally being the personification of deceit, alot of what Deceit says rings true. Even his small jab, "It's so cool how you never listen to Roman." Ends up getting proven shortly after when Patton chastises Roman for supposedly wanting Thomas to lie, even though he actually was offended that Thomas thought that going to the callback was not a good enough reason to miss the wedding.

I cannot believe it's taken me this long to realize that the reason Virgil didn't answer the question here, (19:46) is because he doesn't want to go to the wedding either, as Thomas' anxiety. and being honest about Thomas' norepinephrine levels (which is a hormone that plays an important role in the body's "fight or flight" response) would reveal that.

Having a script writing view on this, it's pretty obvious Janus was necessary in that conversation, and if Virgil was there when he showed up a huge part of the dialogue would focus on Virgil freaking out on how he hates Janus and don't want him there, considering that the section of the video with Janus was the most important one cause it basically explained the whole lesson of the episode, Virgil being there was unacceptable cause it would change the focus, not to mention Janus is no longer considered a bad guy after this episode so Virgil hating on him would just confuse the viewers.
Tho I wonder WHY does Virgil and Janus dislike eachother so much? I really hope we learn more about their past next episode
Giulia CF yeah that makes a lot of sense! and i agree, i hope we find out a lot more about their past in the next ep. virgil has always seemed like such a complex character to me, he has so many layers that i can tell are just eager to be explored

Deceit was there because Patton was lying.
Patton created two different dilemmas (honesty vs lying and right vs wrong) to conflate with and distract from the real dilemma (selfishness vs selflessness) because Patton didn't want to reveal that he believed Thomas was amoral for wanting things. Patton is also the one who defined the parameters and terms during the trial and played dumb to keep everyone using those definitions for his benefit.
Deceit wasn't calling attention to Patton's apparent incompetence to be malicious, he was calling attention to it because Patton uses it to control discussions.
"Take him away. He's a fake!" "What-no! I am the real Roman." Looking back, knowing about Remus and all of Roman's insecurities, this line has SO many layers.

Recently, I have been going through this and the Intrusive Thoughts episodes from beginning to end (though I skip over most of Logan's wordy explanations lol). And I always have to stop myself from grinning like a loon whenever I get to such lines as "You lost me," and "Done."

Going back to this episode after SVSR, I feel so bad for Roman. He got yelled at and told off for supporting Janus in this episode and then got yelled at and told off AGAIN in SVSR for _not_ supporting him, so I can't blame him for feeling betrayed by Thomas at the end of that episode. Not to mention the fact that him laughing at Janus's name reveal was literally par for the course for Roman- he did the exact same thing to Virgil when he revealed _his_ name.
And let’s not forget that Deceit made fun of Roman’s name first.

Yeah, but I feel bad for Janus too. It’s obvious that names are a very important and private thing- at least for some of the sides (notably Janus and Virgil but everyone except Remus seems to care quite a lot otherwise they’d have revealed them a long time before this series started) and Janus was using his name as a “I want you all to trust me and for us to do better as a group” type of reveal. Roman made fun of that. Janus is honestly very likely to be insecure about his name. Virgil doesn’t dislike his name, he just didn’t want to put his trust out there in case it was broken. (Or funnier option for why he said that, snakes can actually not distinguish colours as well as humans and are likely to be dichromatic in daylight, meaning they see two primary colours compared to the three that humans see. So he might genuinely not be able to tell if it weren’t for Remus having a moustache)
@@teassa3820 he reaps what he sows. i did feel a bit bad for him too, but given he manipulated roman, using his obvious insecurities to his advantage, (and then went for the fucking kill with the "evil twin" comment) i feel like he kind of deserved it. roman is a bit unfairly mean sometimes, but he usually only genuinely insults someone if they insult him first. and janus 100% insulted him first.
