What he means is Zanac didn’t want to be king just to have the position. Zanac looked at his brother and sister, and realized he was the only sane one among them, so he would have to be king if the kingdom was to survive. It was a duty, not a prize.

Not sure it was all altruistic on Zanac's part. He had a vision of what he wanted the kingdom to be, and part of that vision was himself at the top. But his reasons were arguably better than his siblings or even the current king.

@@kamikyo I mean, I don’t think there was any ego involved, otherwise Zanac wouldn’t feel the need to built the foundation of power for his potential reign. With Raeven’s connections to powerful adventurers, Ramposa III’s charisma and backing in court, and Renner’s intellect in regards to statesmanship and politicking.

Aninews definitely does amazing work breaking down Overlord. I highly recommend you start the playlist from the beginning and go from season 1 onwards because fleshing out old information absolutely helps inform future decisions.

You know that the author Maruyama truly respects Zanac as a character when he’s the only one besides Maruyama himself and audience to realize the true nature of Ainz Ooal Gown. That the Sorcerer King, Leader of the Supreme Beings, Ruler of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, in spite of having seemingly everything: endless riches, limitless power, servants at his beck and call, the world itself practically at his fingertips, is simply just a man.

I recommend watching some videos from Schäärgocks Schächsaß, dont worry, its in english, he goes fairly deep in novel stuff, analysis and theories, he is awesome

Every character has a character sheet in LN, it shows their interest and hobbies and Zanac just loved to eat and sleep and enjoy life, he never cared for the throne, but seeing the other candidates he had to jump in, he just wanted to improve the kingdom.

Overlord, where evil looking (not handsome/beautiful) characters are as bad as they look, yes he wanted his brother out of succession cuz at the time, the brother wanted an all out war with Jirccniv, a task anyone with a brain could see was foolish, but the brother was always, basically big muscle mean big win, the kingdom before Ainz appeared even considered magic as just little tricks and actively discouraged learning it to focus more on learning something "useful" like swinging a sword.
So faced with imminent destruction if his bro ascends to the throne, he'd rather take up the task and later find a way to stop the constant conflicts with the Empire, diplomatically or otherwise

aninews it typically spot on except the idea tha another level 100 can defeat ainz or nazarick which isnt true, nazarick has killed off so many level 100 players with just the npcs it would take many world tier items for sure. but a single level 100 wont do anything really
