These are greenstone belts - porphyry deposits & epithermal deposits. In a sense - not all Volcanoes are equal. Some will leave a lot of gold - as in Australia & Sth Africa.

it is called crystaline or wire gold very common form in some mining areas. the smooth rounded nuggets you commonly see have been moved by water and beaten by rocks basiclly like hammering the gold into a solid mass.
