I love brendon and i agree that he puts so much emotion into this song- but there’s nothing wrong with artists who simply want to make bops without meaning!! There’s lots of other artists who pour emotion into their art and i don’t think it should be completely shamed (unless they’re actually just jerks who treat others badly and clearly just want the money?) but i do get where you’re coming from since i don’t like a lot of popular music today

I wish he did more songs like this. Don't get me wrong, I really love his upbeat songs, the production on this album is great, but I feel like these songs sometimes overshadow his amazing voice because there are literally so many things to focus on. More stripped down songs like this one really showcase his angelic vocals.
im been saying this for the past two albums. i love the other songs with a passion but i never can get over how amazing his voice is in these types of songs
I absolutely agree. While songs like Roaring 20s are really awesome and phenomenal, songs like Impossible Year and Dying In LA really shows Brendon's vocals, creating grand opportunities to show his creativity in the melody, accompanied with few simple backing instruments.
This song cuts real deep and I don't know why. His singing here is just angelic, but like a sad angel. It sounds like it should be the main song of a musical as well.
god brendon is so amazing. his voice is sooo good to start with. so smooth and the transitions are just perfect. the piano is so beautifully played, down to the sounds of the release of the pedal. so genuine. the lyrics are absolutely heartbreaking and sooo relatable to us dreamers. amazing, brendon, you really outdid yourself on this one (:
I was one of those failed child actors. Had a few parts but never made it big. What I learned is that show-biz is such a soul-sucking, heartless industry and, frankly, I'm glad that I got out when I did. I got to have a (sorta) normal childhood. But... I still feel nostalgia for my time there. I feel a yearning to go back and try again. Being in the business and not being a star is like being a gambler on a never-ending losing streak. You always know, deep down, that you're not gonna make it but you still keep trying anyway. It's painful. But from the moment you leave all you want is to feel the pain again. This song captures the life of a performer so well, it's scary. Brendon Urie is truly something special.
I gave up my entire youth, education, etc in hopes of being famous. I worked my ass off but I was used, lied to, stolen from, taken advantage of, and spit out by the time I was 25. The entertainment industry is cruel and heartless but I am glad it didn’t make me cruel and heartless. This song never fails to bring me to tears because that part of me never died. And I know my pain is the same pain that so many dreamers have experienced. And there will always be a part of me that misses it. Being a performer isn’t a choice, it’s who you are. I’m sad to admit that I’d do it all again, at the drop of a hat, despite all the pain it’s brought me.
I feel like this whole album is just a revelation of the cruelty of fame and riches as a celebrity, starting as an innocent dream of a child with high hopes that started to become a living nughtmare you couldn't escape from
I find the melody of these two lines "Nobody knows you now, when you're dying in LA" similar to his older song The Calendar. Also, like a guy in the comment section said, the ending shares similarity with When The Day Meet The Night. This is a good song though and I really enjoy it. Having those familiar melodies running in my head while listening to this song makes me feel so nostalgic.
Miss Momo I get to see it live on the 26th of January for his Pray For The Wicked tour and I started crying cause I just realized how adorable it's gonna beeeeeeeee
I hope he's not having any problems right now, because this one is about, well, DYING in LA, and Hey Look Ma I Made It is about the "trap" of fame I guess you could say.
@@raf.4028 look at Justin bieber, or zayn malik, they are nowhere near this guy, have you see his love performances? For the love of God, His cover o bohemian rhapsody should have atleast over 100million views, but compare that to even a shitty song like Gucci gang or starboy, they are more popular, and more talked about, and that just breaks my heart.
Mr Melancholy I think the same thing, there are just stupid people making stupid music videos that don’t even have talent. But this man has worked so hard to entertain and relax people but he never gets the credit he really needs.
Sorry I'm like 11 months late but just the whole song gives p.o vibes like 'the sun was in your eyes' is almost a perfect quote from she had the world and now I'm cryan.
I knew the ending sounded familiar. It felt like a callback to that era in a very special way. This ending easily sounds like the beginning of "When the Day Met The Night"
As soon as the piano started playing I lost it. I'm sobbing and I don't care who knows. I feel like this album as a whole is deeper than any of the others. Brendon, do you want to go home? ;-;
this song was so amazing when he performed it live. everyone turned their flashlights on. the arena was so beautiful. and he was playing the piano above the crowd. it was so so beautiful. thank you.
“you looked at death in a tarot card and you saw what you had to do” got me for some reason because death in tarot cards means change *edit:* so some people said i know this because of dnp (my pfp was dan) but i have actually never seen those videos (never had interest) i just know a few tarot cards mean lmao
mack. I think that's tied to hey look ma, because that videos about being a puppet for record labels and getting into bad stuff and trying to get out of it.
Hannah Goss Im a tarot card reader... it means that you have to restart... Death is a clean start. Now, a reversed Death card could mean being stuck in one place.
I was multitasking listening to this album and I had to pause and just stop what I was doing when this song came on - absolutely touching and heartbreaking and beautiful. Excuse me while I play on repeat and cry.
This song reminds me of my time in high school theatre. I made friends, opened up, created memories, fell in love. Then it all fell apart. Most of my friends abandoned me, those memories I once cherished now open old wounds, and my first love shattered me without ever knowing she had that kind of influence over me.
I’m so sorry to hear that!! Try to remember all the good times and the happiness you had. It’s okay to feel hurt but understand that the wounds we carry in our hearts never heal if we don’t let them. Ik it’s hard but I’m proud of you dude and keep your head up and try and think from their shoes too yk; everything’s gonna be alright and the best is yet to come
Even though it's mostly a sad vibe from this song, to me it also represents maturity. How, for example, good times can come and go, but this song also hints at the fact that there is more to come. We are always moving forward, whether we want the change of not. The maturity in this song as compared to a few years ago, it sounds like Brendon has been through a lot, and he has. There have been so many changes for him and anyone paying attention to his life within just the past decade.
My mama passed away November 2019. We loved this band and we went to their concert before she got sick. I played this song for her during her visitation because she loved it so much.
Can anyone else hear the melody of when the day met the night at the end or at least it sounds very similar? also this song is so beautiful and I'm starting to think like many of the songs in the album that are about getting over a bad event in life or something of the sort this is his song acknowledging the pretty odd era and the P!atd break up and now he has fully moved on and is a better person because of it. The whole instrumental at the end and the birds chirping is very similar to pretty odds aesthetic and how the song when the day met the night opens with birds chirping to a orchestrated intro also I noticed most if not all comments talking about Ryan or pretty odd have been deleted I hope this one stays cause I think these ideas bring so much more meaning into the song and the whole theme of the album which is getting over the hard times and being better because of those bad experiences. Also Thank you Brendon for inspiring me to do what I love music thank you for all you've done and for all of the people who's hearts you've touched and helped through your music.
Also if this song is indeed Brendon Acknowledging Pretty odd and Ryan and the P!atd break up I think its beautiful cause it lets the story come full circle.
yeah it fades into when the day met the night, but the thing i don’t understand is why THAT song, the one ryan wrote about keltie. and besides, for the past 8 years brendon has acted like pretty odd doesn’t exist, so why now and why on a song like dying in la?
pealovesea it’s not only that, but also him mentioning pre-split unprompted during lives, as well as spencer tweeting the lil stories of him and ryan. whether it means something or not, i thinks it’s nice I JUST WANNA KNOW *WHY* THOUGH
Brendon, your music saved me and even now it is my therapy. i will always listen to your music. i love you so much you inspire me to be a better person and to be more understanding. i am so happy for you and Sarah on your new life being parents. i will miss you deeply and the pain i feel right now, i know will subside. you are a part of my life and always will be. thank you for everything. thank you for showing me that people can make mistakes and grow as a person. thank you for being our friend, all of us Sinners we are a family and my love for you will never go away.
I went to his show in CLT. It was amazing. He came around on a floating piano and played this song. I'd never heard it before but Its an amazing song honestly
Totally An Alien get out of here man no one needs your hate comments. Way to ruin someone else's happy comment with your judgemental discrimination against his album. If you can't say anything even remotely validatable, don't say anything at all. Like Tyler Joseph once said, "Excuse me, could you please leave?"
I don't even know why but, I just keep coming back to this song. Like it just resonates with me. I'm not actually "dying in L.A." but figuratively, yeah. It's just with anxiety and the fear of not being able to be where people want you to be versus where you want yourself to be. It's hard to listen to without crying or just feeling. It's about being so trapped in your own messed up mind that it becomes hard to go on (for me at least).
same i feel how you are feeling ad the only thing that makes me happy is listening to them. anxiety stess and deppresion is getting to me and i have been keeping it in and i don't know what to do
Same I just love the lyrics and can relate although I'm not in LA but like I can relate to people being idiots and anxiety and all...everyone trying to be the best
This is so powerful and beautiful. You can really tell that Brendon puts his heart and soul in his music. He cares about his fans and he cares about the music, not the fame. He's such a sweet and kind person who deserves so much love.
[Verse 1] The moment you arrived, they built you up The sun was in your eyes You couldn't believe it Riches all around, you're walking Stars are on the ground You start to believe it [Pre-Chorus] Every face along the boulevard Is a dreamer just like you You looked at death in a tarot card And you saw what you had to do [Chorus] But nobody knows you now When you're dying in LA And nobody owes you now When you're dying in LA When you're dying in LA When you're dying in LA The power, the power, the power Oh the power, the power, the power Of LA [Verse 2] Nights at the chateau Trapped in your sunset bungalow You couldn't escape it, yeah Drink of paradise They told you "Put your blood on ice" You're not gonna make it [Pre-Chorus] Every face along the boulevard Is a dreamer just like you You looked at death in a tarot card And you saw what you had to do [Chorus] But nobody knows you now When you're dying in LA And nobody owes you now When you're dying in LA When you're dying in LA When you're dying in LA The power, the power, the power Oh the power, the power, the power Of LA
I love Brendan more than anything. I’ve looked up to him for so so long and his lyrics hit me so hard. I’ve been listening to him for years and I’m so happy he continues to create beautiful music. He just gets better and better and he never stops. He’s an amazing role model to anyone who’s goin through tough times. Brendan just truly means the world to me and his personality, voice, and just he embodies an amazing person that nothing can top. I’ve gone through hard times and no matter what this music has helped me through it
I haven't cried yet, but I'm also on king of the clouds. I'll keep you posted since I can't live tweet me dying. UPDATE: I'm on Old Fashioned and I've been blind-sided again. Still not crying yet. I skipped breakfast for this, I want tears.final update: how do I return my tears? I don't want them anymore.
I think I've figured out the plot of PFTW: So basically the person starts with (high hopes) for fame and glory, then gets success (hey look Ma I made it). The now celebrity is having a great time and starts to have a great life but then gets drunk more and more often and forgets their beginnings. Then comes dying in La where he is now suffering and dying and only now remembering where he came from and that now nobody knows him really.
This song touches my heart. I just lost my beloved bird and this song makes me feel like its me talking to my bird. I loved him so much and I love Brendon so much. Rest in peace Kio.
JustAnOrdinaryJoy I'm so so sorry for your loss. I have an Amazon parrot that has been with me for 17 years. I understand the bond. My heart goes out to you. ❤️
“The Sun was in your eyes” -Dying In LA “The Sun was in her eyes” -She Had The World She Had The World Came out in 2008 and Dying In LA came out 2018 so ten years later. So I guess what I’m saying is your under arrest.
Brendon said he had someone write him words and he just played his fav chords on the piano, all of this was one take. he planned to replace the parts but he liked the one take version too much he just left it as it was. thats what he claims to be the case at least
Had on old friend, this was our favourite band, sadly I found out how much of a monster they were, manipulated everyone. It sucks to see people we love change for the worst, but the reality is we cant control it, we just have to make sure we do our best to stay true to ourselves, my old friend still acts like nothings happened and lives like they have no flaws, it hurts, but now ik itll come back to haunt them, so I play this song, as a reminder that if someones personality 'dies' for a new one. You just have to decide if it's good for you or not. So to the people that are in a toxic friendship or just feel like the friendship isnt for them anymore, pick you bags up and walk out. You deserve better x
I think "dying in LA" means when an artist gets "the fame" he/she ever wanted is not the same person anymore, so the real person he/she is "dies", idk just my opinion
I don't think he means the real person though. He's definitely grateful for all be has. I think he means the old him, "we're all different people throughout our lives and that's good you've got to keep moving got to keep changing, so long as you remember the person that you used to be." . It may be little hard to understand but maybe he is changing or maybe he has already changed but if you listen closely, he's definitely happy about it.
The moment you arrived, they built you up The sun was in your eyes, you couldn't believe it Riches all around, you're walking Stars are on the ground, you start to believe it [Pre-Chorus] Every face along the boulevard Is a dreamer just like you You looked at death in a tarot card And you saw what you had to do [Chorus] But nobody knows you now, when you're dying in LA And nobody owes you now, when you're dying in LA When you're dying in LA, when you're dying in LA The power, the power, the power Oh, the power, the power, the power Of LA [Verse 2] Nights at the chateau, trapped in your sunset bungalow You couldn't escape it, yeah Drink of paradise, they told you "Put your blood on ice" You're not gonna make it [Pre-Chorus] Every face along the boulevard Is a dreamer just like you You looked at death in a tarot card And you saw what you had to do [Chorus] But nobody knows you now, when you're dying in LA And nobody owes you now, when you're dying in LA When you're dying in LA, when you're dying in LA The power, the power, the power Oh, the power, the power, the power Of LA
Dylan SAMPSON The lyrics arent fucken finished and some people dont fucken know that the lyrics are there so thats why i put them in the comments. Youre welcome, have a nice day.
Last year I moved to a new city by myself, in the first month in the city I got to see panic. That night after concert I got a called that my grandma died. This year was one of my hardest but but Brendon and his music really got me through. Thank you for the music.
I'm kinda concerned about him in a way as some of lyrics are quite deep and powerful which makes you question whether if he is happy or not idk if its just me, it breaks my heart to think someone so amazing as him could fake their own happiness, though he says he isn't you would still think in general the music industry would have something to hide and making music showcases their true emotions. Please Don't take it seriously its just an opinion. 'For the record this was a couple of weeks before this live stream about who wrote the lyrics for this song, I know he didn't write the lyrics okay'
PanicFallparade 00 it's not just you. Hey look ma's video is really disturbing. It talks/ shows about his stardom and how he was in control by drugs and alcohol. But at the end of this, the beginning to when the day met the night starts and there's birds chirping, which makes you think he found a solution to those problems throughout the album
I hope he keeps making music. I think this song is hinting his retreat. "Dying in LA" could refer to his music dying out... Just a theory. Makes me cry
I first listened to this song when I was in universal studios Orlando. I was in a gift shop and it came on in the store. I recognized Brendon’s voice and fell in love with the song. I then added it to my music library and kept on my day. I went back to my hotel and showed my sister the song. She loved it to and we played it on repeat until we fell asleep. We continued to listen to it in the airport and plane home. I got home and got tired of it and deleted it from my library. I found the song again today and started crying. I showed my sister and now we are listening to it again. Funny how life works
I can really hear the broadway influence in this song! I love itttt

Dylan Schor that’s what I’ve been trying to tell everyone. It means changing, starting over, not *death*. Calm down everyone

Gwendolyn Nguyen that’s it’s meaning in tarot cards, and he mentioned that she saw death in tarot cards and she knew what she had to do. It means that she new that she needed to change or something
omg does that mean that this song is ALSO about Ryan Ross? Jfc
which could mean brendon is finally letting go of his past. "the overpass" could be last Ryden song we are going to hear.

This song cuts real deep and I don't know why. His singing here is just angelic, but like a sad angel.
It sounds like it should be the main song of a musical as well.

This song captures the life of a performer so well, it's scary. Brendon Urie is truly something special.
Whoa you just scared me being a theatre kid with big dreams and made this song 100 times deeper for me thanks
Maybe the get up and march on mentality will make ones dreams a reality.
@@qqtprr8255 thanks
I feel like this whole album is just a revelation of the cruelty of fame and riches as a celebrity, starting as an innocent dream of a child with high hopes that started to become a living nughtmare you couldn't escape from
Lei Kim DAMN THATS DEEP
Lei Kim it definitely is
I think you're right
Thats what i said on other song..

*THIS SONG IS BEAUTIFUL I AM CRYING* *BEEBO IS SO PURE*

Same girl, same!😭😢😢😢
SAME we in dis together😞😢😭😭😭😭
I is crying lots but we all are so its otay
I find the melody of these two lines "Nobody knows you now, when you're dying in LA" similar to his older song The Calendar. Also, like a guy in the comment section said, the ending shares similarity with When The Day Meet The Night.
This is a good song though and I really enjoy it. Having those familiar melodies running in my head while listening to this song makes me feel so nostalgic.
Tung Nguyen it's closer to the ending to do you know what I'm seeing
That's the part!!
The question is: HOW IS EVERY PANIC!SONG SOOOOOOOOO UNDERRATED???????!!!!!!!
More people need to listen. Needs more exposure
Cough cough *high hopes*
**cough** i write sins not tragedies **cough**
Knowbody knows, ya know
Prolly a lot of people don't want to support Brendon by listening to his music, I kinda agree even though I unfortunately adore his voice-
I NEED THIS IN LIVE i just imagine brendon's expressions when he does the ''DyInG iN lA'' at the 1:07 and i just-- can't. too cute.
Miss Momo I get to see it live on the 26th of January for his Pray For The Wicked tour and I started crying cause I just realized how adorable it's gonna beeeeeeeee
I seeing him this month and I can't WAIT for this. I bet his eyebrows go straight up
Band Trash same mine is in 2 days!
Just Another Dreamer I'll find out in 2 weeks I'll tell you ♥♥♥
Saw him do this live in Minneapolis and i can say that it is absolutely beautiful and will make you cry
And this is coming from the guy who wrote LA Devotee... Saying that he loved LA. Few years later, dying in LA
I guess he has this love/hate relationships with LA. Too many-dimensional to define in one way
prlnsl no the thing is, I'm pretty sure that in tarot cards, death means change, so it might be changing in LA. But I'm not too sure.
I hope he's not having any problems right now, because this one is about, well, DYING in LA, and Hey Look Ma I Made It is about the "trap" of fame I guess you could say.
prlnsl That’s like me deciding which foods I like
2017: “I’ll have chicken”
2018: “EW CHICKEN WHY WOULD YOU THINK I LIKE THAT!”
well LA devotee wasn't really about loving LA, it was about corruption.
This lad is so underrated, he has some serious talent and lungs, how I wish he'd get more credit and recognition for his work.
'underrated'
@@raf.4028 look at Justin bieber, or zayn malik, they are nowhere near this guy, have you see his love performances? For the love of God, His cover o bohemian rhapsody should have atleast over 100million views, but compare that to even a shitty song like Gucci gang or starboy, they are more popular, and more talked about, and that just breaks my heart.
Mr Melancholy I think the same thing, there are just stupid people making stupid music videos that don’t even have talent. But this man has worked so hard to entertain and relax people but he never gets the credit he really needs.

Okay, so the end of the song has birds chirping and I got the STRONGEST Pretty. Odd. vibes EVER.
There is a female voice
The ending really sounds like the start to masterpiece theatre 1 by marianas trench.
did no one get the fact that you said pretty odd 😂

“you looked at death in a tarot card and you saw what you had to do” got me for some reason because death in tarot cards means change

This song reminds me of my time in high school theatre. I made friends, opened up, created memories, fell in love. Then it all fell apart. Most of my friends abandoned me, those memories I once cherished now open old wounds, and my first love shattered me without ever knowing she had that kind of influence over me.

Well Im not fond of seeing my town getting bummed down by illegals causing havoc, and not to mention the delusional governor presiding this.

TheFandomKween the tarot card of death actually means change and letting go of the past sooooooo

Also if this song is indeed Brendon Acknowledging Pretty odd and Ryan and the P!atd break up I think its beautiful cause it lets the story come full circle.
yeah it fades into when the day met the night, but the thing i don’t understand is why THAT song, the one ryan wrote about keltie. and besides, for the past 8 years brendon has acted like pretty odd doesn’t exist, so why now and why on a song like dying in la?
dont forget in the hey ma look i made it music video, the microphone has flowers around it, now kids, what era is that from?
(in one frame)
pealovesea it’s not only that, but also him mentioning pre-split unprompted during lives, as well as spencer tweeting the lil stories of him and ryan. whether it means something or not, i thinks it’s nice
I JUST WANNA KNOW *WHY* THOUGH
Brendon, your music saved me and even now it is my therapy. i will always listen to your music. i love you so much you inspire me to be a better person and to be more understanding. i am so happy for you and Sarah on your new life being parents. i will miss you deeply and the pain i feel right now, i know will subside. you are a part of my life and always will be. thank you for everything. thank you for showing me that people can make mistakes and grow as a person. thank you for being our friend, all of us Sinners we are a family and my love for you will never go away.

So basically the person starts with (high hopes) for fame and glory, then gets success (hey look Ma I made it). The now celebrity is having a great time and starts to have a great life but then gets drunk more and more often and forgets their beginnings. Then comes dying in La where he is now suffering and dying and only now remembering where he came from and that now nobody knows him really.

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Brendon said he had someone write him words and he just played his fav chords on the piano, all of this was one take. he planned to replace the parts but he liked the one take version too much he just left it as it was. thats what he claims to be the case at least
TianHP they prob mean it took him 15 min to write the song. Not to record and produce and mix it
KyleNoelMusic no FUCKING way, well, fuck my life then
KyleNoelMusic he made this in 15 minutes?????!!!!

Ahhh Brendon are you trying to kill me oml its literally so beautiful
I think "dying in LA" means when an artist gets "the fame" he/she ever wanted is not the same person anymore, so the real person he/she is "dies", idk just my opinion
that makes a lot of sense
Damn thats a new level of depth
huh, i have been thinking that it means when your popularity in fame is fading. i totally didn’t think of it in the way that you did
I don't think he means the real person though.

Who's truly happy anymore?
i feel like it’s about slave contracts. like when you watch the hey look ma i made it mv it’s like he’s being controlled by drugs
You aren’t always gonna be happy in life. You’ve gotta take the good with the bad. What a better way to portray that than in music.
