  • Time for the Top 4 Marx Brothers films on my list! Today we take a bite of some "tootsie-frootsie" ice cream, watch the wildest football game of 1932, pose as Maurice Chevalier to get through passport control, and declare war on Sylvania with 4 great classics from Groucho, Chico, Harpo, and (mostly) Zeppo.
    What are your favorites?

Re: Duck Soup…Check out the final battle scene and look at how much fun the boys are having. Full of adlibs and chaos, the brothers molest Margaret Dumont, wreck the set, and run amuck in their own version of the Crazy House routine. Great fun. Thanks for the video BB.

The magic with Margaret was she really was clueless about just what they were going for & her shock & frustration was fresh & real 😅😂❤

Thanks for a great and interesting series! As I've mentioned, I found some of your ranking really unusual, but also interesting and you provided a really understandable basis for your choices. I love the perspective! BTW, if you haven't heard it, you might enjoy checking out a 1933 radio broadcast called "The Paramount Movie Parade." It's a twelve minute promotional feature for "Duck Soup" and is interesting because it includes a lot of material that didn't make it to the final cut of the film. Groucho does, pretty much, a whole different routine with Margaret Dumont when he arrives at the reception at the beginning of the film. (I'm not sure if it's on RUclips, though I suspect it is. I got it in a download of Marx Brothers audio clips from iTunes years ago.) Anyway, great job and keep up the excellent and interesting work!

Thanks for the heads-up about the radio promos. I had never heard those before. Not only are they using an early version of the script when they introduce the brothers (i.e. Harpo's "Pinky" is still called "Skippy") but it's neat to see what they cut and reshot between those recordings and the release. Very great find! Thanks again for doing a collab with me as well. That will be uploaded very soon!
