I liked her alot and can still remember the episode where the dad James dies ...still can bring tears to my eyes. She played the role perfectly and how strong she was til she wasnt. That one broke me
Grew up watching GOOD TIMES in the 70's, Loved this Show ! All of these Actors and the Characters they played. Just LOVED them. Still watch them once in a while. Thanks for covering Esther.
Many thanks for making this tribute. As an overseas viewer I remember her most from Driving Miss Daisy, thank you Jordan for introducing me to the life of this wonderful, generous lady.
Oh I'm so happy that you honored this wonderful lady Jordan. I live not far from there and I have brought her flowers twice in the last few years. Last time I was there, the grandson of the owner of the cemetery property and I had a nice talk and he was sad that such a historic cemetery had been ignored and asked me to write a letter. It's an historic old African American cemetery as you know and is on one of the busiest and most unglamorous corners of Broward County. I used to go to the recording studio and record right around the corner from there many years ago. ❤️ this.
I'm glad to see this homage to a great actress who deserved a lot of respect. I know that Esther and John wanted Good Times to be more of a drama but the Evans family's impoverished situation would have been far too depressing if it hadn't been for the comic relief. It was so successful because it had the right balance of serious situations along with the humor. Esther had the right idea of showing a loving father in the home and truly once John left the show it was never the same.
I know she wanted to make the show more realistic, but atleast she was able to make the show a strong family show and even help her friends. Great lady, Thanks Jordan!
Wonderful actress who really respected what she did and was such a positive role model for so many people. I was sad when I had heard she passed away. Seemed like a really nice lady in real life.
As usual, a fantastic cemetery vlog. The cemetery doesn’t look as well kept as it should be 😢. I also remember Esther Rolle from Good Times and Driving Miss Daisy. My mom and I once saw her many years ago, driving in Los Angeles. She looked so glamorous.
Thanks Jordan this woman was a wonderful actress there was such an honesty in each character she played. A sense of true genuineness. I really liked her!
I never watched Maud but I was a fan of Good Times -- especially while she and Amos were on the show. They were the heart of the show. Growing up poor in small all-white town, my only black experience was TV. I really credit her and Nell Carter for shaping my views on race. RIP to them both. Thanks, Jordan.
Jordan , i saw Esther Rolle in the mid to late 80's when i worked as a busboy at the Hershey Hotel ( now Doubletree Hotel ) in Philly . In the entrance to the restaurant lobby there was a long bench and chairs nearby for patrons to sit while waiting to be seated . She was a nice lady very friendly. 😊 I also saw Hank Aaron in the same lobby , I was shocked !!
This was just fantastic. Thank you for sharing her story. We've loved her since Maude and never missed an episode of both shows. She was an amazing actress with a great work ethic. Love that she spoke up about the writing and where the show was going. They could of done so much more with the characters. She was ahead of her time in so many ways.
Thank you Jordan. I have much respect for Ms.Rolle standing up for her beliefs and being a good role model for younger women. I appreciate you Jordan because you have a wide range of videos and do not discriminate. After all we are all part of the human race.😊
I grew up watching Maude and Good Times. I got Good Times on dvd 📀 the second it was released. Wonderful strong woman. Thank you Esther Rolle for the wonderful memories. Thank you Jordan. ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
Oh yeah, I remember that video! I'm the flight attendant from Dayton that took your first Scott Michaels' tour. I had JJ on a flight to Columbus once. He kept to himself, unfortunately. Didn't get to talk much to him or take a picture. @@DazewithJordantheLion
You know, Jordan, I really feel like I got to know her a little bit. You did such a wonderful job sharing her story. What an incredible woman! Thank you!!! 👍👍
Watched her on Maude and Good Times growing up and still watch the reruns today I remember when James (the father) John Amos died. Heart breaking at the time. Love the show!
Good Times was one of my favorite sitcoms ... I watched it in replays every day after school. Another GREAT Episode by Daze with Jordan the Lion! Thank you for sharing
She was so cute when James was getting frisky with her, "have mercy"...lol. I wish Good Times was on here. Florida was a great mom and James was the perfect father, strict but loving.
Thanks so much for sharing this tribute to Esther Rolle! I loved her in Maude and Good Times. She was also really good in a tv movie called Summer of My German Soldier with Kristy McNichol.
Wow Jordon. Absolutely incredible. Thank you. What meticulous detail you covered this episode. The time you put into these episodes is phenomenal. Kind regards from Adelaide, South Australia
SHALOM ,, RIP... ESTHER ROLLE,, WE ALL LOVED ALL YOU DID ON TV AND IN LIFE!!! SAD THE HUSBAND DIED OFF ON THE SHOW HE WAS GREAT!! AND WORKED HARD.. THANKS IORDAN....
Good Times was outstanding and I'm so disheartened to hear what John Amos is going through right now. It's egregious! I'm experiencing something similar as a disabled woman and it breaks my heart.
Thank you so much Jordan. I love the story about Esther Rolle. Your the best to listen to when talking about someone! I learn a lot from you. Thank you
I like watching Good Times and I have the show on DVD collection. I like Esther Rolle and John Amos , great actors on the show. RIP Esther Rolle (Florida Evans) 🙏✝️
Jorgan, thank you so much for sharing your take on the great Esther Rolle's life. It brought back more memories than I can begin to tell you, in particular, the one episode you shared, when John Amos left. I'd completely forgeten it. You are a real treasure, Jordan...what would we all do, wthout you??!!! 💞
It's nice to see how much interest you took in featuring Ester Roll, because of this I could never consider you to be a bigot nor a racist. Sometimes we think about that when we see certain white performers or creators. You have certainly earned credibility in my world with this posting.
Esther Rolle: She played Florida Evans on Good Times well. Intelligent, talented person, and when John and she left the show, it was never the same. She came back later episodes, but still was missing James . What a funny show it was though.
I saw her at her house. It was in the Baldwin Hills at her hilltop home. Her house had a wonderful view of Los Angeles, looking north towards the Hollywood Hills, that was about 1979. Thanks for bringing light to her life, with your vlog, as how she wanted the best portrayal of people in her TV series.
I want to mention she won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie in 1979 for "Summer of my German soldier"
I liked her alot and can still remember the episode where the dad James dies ...still can bring tears to my eyes. She played the role perfectly and how strong she was til she wasnt. That one broke me
