I do love Bobby's vocals, but this period of Zappa's live sound feels somewhat synthetic to me. Chad and Scott are a great rhythm section, but something about the "sound" feels soul-less when compared to Bozzio, Colaiuta, O'Hearn, Barrow who had been the previous couple of bass/drums. Plus the 80s fashion really was horrific. I was there. I remember it with shame.
You know this synthetic drums were only here for a short time and Chad Wackerman is the BEST drummer Zappa ever had. Just listen to any song studio or live with him playing...
The 80s fashion ranged from hideous to passable. But I'm from the era where dudes would wear skinny jeans (and so did i) so I can't talk too much shit lol
@@Alix777. Wackerman certainly is a fantastic drummer. Probably the most technically proficient drummer Frank has ever had and the longest tenured. I'm not a fan of the electronic drums in the '84 tour either. It had that 80s sound which I'm not a fan of. They were used at Frank's request. Something I fault him on. 40 years ago this month, in Dec. of 1983, I was at a holiday party where the host had the TV on, and a Barbara Streisand holiday concert special was playing. I find that music cringe, but I couldn't voice my opinion at someone else's house. I bring this up because the drummer on that gig was Chad Wackerman. When Frank wasn't touring, his musicians were free to do whatever they wanted. Chad landed that gig. I wonder if he was bored to death playing "normal" music with no tricky impossible time signature passages in it to keep him on his toes? A gig is a gig, but when you've play for Zappa, everything else must be boring.

What they said 😃
Frank's version is more up tempo than the Allman's original.
Frank made this better.

A gig is a gig, but when you've play for Zappa, everything else must be boring.
trump has been the boy who called wolf since long before he descended that elevator in 2015 to announce he was running for President of the United States.
agreed, but let's keep politics off of Lee's channel. Let's just disagree about music here instead. :)
I'm a centrist, so I'm no fan of either, but what does that have to do with zappa? Lol
Fricken’ Awesome!!!!
Horrible
How long did it take you to memorize your fake Analysis? I am curious 😂😂😂
How long does it take you to write out these pointless comments 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, the Allman Brothers do beat that one. Live.
