So this is super interesting to hear it laid out.

Seriously great content, very well thought out information. Map hack is really more an end game thing. When your grinding for gear. Meaning you’ve already passed the game and your just grinding for gear. I mean you probably don’t want maphack when your first playing the game, that eliminates the fog of war taking a lot of fun out of the game, exploring, getting lost, or being surprised. Things that make D2 so fun in the beginning. Depending how you play and how hard you grind for gear maphack becomes useful when you’ve already passed the game in all three difficulty levels.
You’re videos are super helpful. I’ve found it easiest to think in terms of my characters shoulders. As in : Stick to your left shoulder after entrance.

Holy crap man, this is very useful, amazing how a 20 year old can be so complex. I got back to playing diablo 2 thanks to your videos (and dubrinskis). I can definitely say that when I played it way back I did not understand it very much.
okay, that detail with lower kurast and stony field exits being linked, kinda blew my mind. so it's possible, if you really wanna find clues for the right arcane sanctuary path, you actually have to look at every single map of every act to find anomalies.
Thank you so much for this! This video just saved me so much time. I've done 3 of your guided playthroughs and these tips were always mentioned at random points throughout. feels like the word "orientation" is the word llama is spending all video trying to explain but cant think of lol. LEFT of the tile's orientation, RIGHT of the tile's orientation, etc... but the visuals explained it well enough even if his words failed him. good vid!
The way I learned this for durance is simply looking at my shield. Your character is always right handed with weapons. No matter what orientation you find yourself in, turning “into your shield” always makes you turn left with regards to the game. That’s about 95% of my Mephisto runs. I had one crazy map where following the left way ended up being durance of hate lvl 1 instead of 3 and where 1 should be was durance 3. Ran into that maybe 4 times out of 150 runs.
Huh, I find level 1 about 25% of the times scraping my shield against the wall. And many times I run an absolute huge distance before I run into level 3 anyway. Plus running away from the stygian dolls often makes me miss a left turn and end up getting lost. Durance is still not quick even with this in mind.
This is extremely useful information which I hadn't heard before. What's crazier is in the higher traffic areas out of habit, I was already going the correct direction because of years of having found the path to be shorter by heading that way. Here I thought I was just superstitious.
there will always be a "box" or "boxes" in the center. The open maps are designed specifically for how far your map can discover at one specific time. The moment you move out of view of one wall, another wall will appear. You can use this to easily discover an entire area by simply outlining the outer map as far away as possible. As a hardcore, single player you learn these things extremely quickly -.- walking through the same areas over and over and over to try and find things is SO damn annoying! I should note that important locations, such as "the pit," the countess' tower, the den of evil, etc, can act as an anchor point, much like a wall where if you walk just a little out of view from the wall it'll auto pop up on your map, meaning if there is a gap between the walls there must be some sort of anchor there. This works for ALL open areas except act 3... cuz F act 3 x.x

I wasn't sure I'd learn anything after all the lewd MS Paint art by Llama, but gradually Llama's lesson plan came together and I learned a lot! S tier content right here!
Such an amazing content. Ive been playing d1 and d2 since realese and never realized about maps arangement. All your videos are great but this one is mandatory to know.
"I'll be here 'til... well, forever, playing D2." lol I feel you, Bro. I've been playing since 2000. I've always just played "for fun," so I learned a few things from your video. It is a testament to the thousands and thousands of hours I've sunk into D2 that I "knew" a lot of this stuff intuitively without ever trying to figure it out. Sure, I tried (and beat) D3, but D2 is just better. Back in the "old days," games were created to be played "forever." It began with the Atari 2100 VCS, continued with arcade games such as Asteroids, and resulted in gems such as Diablo 2, Starcraft, Neverwinter Nights, et cetera. They tried to capture that genie in the bottle with MMO's (and remakes), but it seems they never really figured out the reason for past success. Then businessmen took over the development of games and tried to distill the art form into a formula. Now, we have "Harlequin" games the same way we have Harlequin novels. Blech!
You mentioned all of these in some of your videos and I very much apprecciate that you now compiled your vast map knowledge in this video! Just great, even for a veteran ;)! Maybe it would be cool to have a "Best cheap items"--Video, including good magic items to look for.
hey llama, top notch knowledge as always but if i were you i would be describing your directions as "clockwise" or "counter-clockwise" because these can be accurate without having to explain from perspectives of the direction your character is facing
your dropping some huge knowledge ahead of d2r. I was always looking for your map video because I've heard you talk about it in run-throughs, this is great information... amazing. I found it very amusing however when I was more alert to Nihlathak maps than you haha!
@@cursedsummoner If you have teleport, strat is to teleport straight on him and blow him up first. If u kill his mobs its insanely dangerous. only strat is to run away from corpses and try to get him down without going near them. If your a necro you could do corpse explosion yourself of all the corpses so that he cant
And sometimes you gotta cross the bridge and explore the second half of the zone t find it, d2 in a nutshell.. love it haha. Back in the day everyone used to complain about durance of hate level 2 and the tower in black marsh.
Talking about maps, It took me literally years before I found the gibdon to complete that quest in D2. Quite the maze. I was happy when I randomly stumbled upon it. Knowing a nice way to get it done (ie finding it) would be really nice and this video helps with that.
Found your channel after coming back to D2 with resurrected, major refresh listening to your guides and knowledge here, also love the tricks and stuff you guys have all learned playing the game so long, you can truly tell that your passionate about this game and that diserves a sub for sure
I know I might be a little late on this and someone else may have already posted, but for Cata 3 when you enter, you have to act as if you are standing in front of the Cata 1 exit and are trying to find the Cata 2 WP. Basically follow left wall and you'll hit Cata 4 entrance quicker.
For Arcane Sanctuary, i've read somewhere on Reddit that the biggest chance (not 100%) ,the way is the same that blood moor is facing rogue encampment (Act 1). Ive tried that and got 3/5 match.
Sometimes it feels like you say "across" meaning the direction of your character entering/exiting(a1 through 3), meaning go "straight" but sometimes (like A4 @ 46:00 ish) you mean across map wise (aka left to right from OUR human perspective looking at a screen), not within the rhombus/diamond shape, because that would mean top right corner and not the middle of the segment between top right and bottom right I wasn't sure if I understood correctly or not when you were explaining directions before, but now I am almost certain I did not lol
What's scary is I've never consciously thought about any of this, but I knew a lot of these before you said them because I've played so much I've just kind of internalized it. The Tower/Cata/WSK thing was new, but like Stony vs. Burial, UP, Outer Cloister setups, those I all knew.

Blech!
This video was 1000x more helpful than I thought it would be. Thank you.
its crazy to me that I've played this game for actual decades and never figured out ANY of this on my own.
We need more of this 2: Item Generation 3: item valutation 4: Item drop 5: Useful Cube Recipes 6:Monsters 7: Keyboard/mouse configuration etc Thanks
You mentioned all of these in some of your videos and I very much apprecciate that you now compiled your vast map knowledge in this video! Just great, even for a veteran ;)!
Maybe it would be cool to have a "Best cheap items"--Video, including good magic items to look for.
The quality and quantity of content that you produce is truly amazing. Thanks!
hey llama, top notch knowledge as always but if i were you i would be describing your directions as "clockwise" or "counter-clockwise" because these can be accurate without having to explain from perspectives of the direction your character is facing
Your extensive knowledge never ceases to amaze me
definitely was playing through act 3 hell and used the durance trick while watching the video and it worked. thats pretty awesome
A tip if you are mixing your lefts and rights. Right is the hand which your character holds your sword, left is the shield.
I've been noting every map hack you mention in your hours long play-throughs 😅. Good to have them in one place!
your dropping some huge knowledge ahead of d2r. I was always looking for your map video because I've heard you talk about it in run-throughs, this is great information... amazing. I found it very amusing however when I was more alert to Nihlathak maps than you haha!
I've always said your videos are as good if not better quality of knowledge delivery than some of my university lectures
Any tips on dealing with him and his Corpse Explosion. I usually get natures peace, but my merc sometimes gets a kill or 2 and that gets me killed.
You are gonna end up making more of D2 content than Blizzard does kn the game release. Good work my dude.
Mega appreciate this video!
I doubt that I'll be doing speedruns anytime soon, but if/when I do, I know where to look for explanations on maps. :)
Ty so much for this video llama. Very grateful for all these videos. I look forward to every one of them.
I havent played d2 more than a few hours in 15+ years, but im still watching this? Gratz on the grail btw!
After years of D2 I kinda started to do this intuitively without ever understanding what lead me to the decision to pick "this" way. Very interesting!
Truly the MVP of Diablo 2 speedrunning. LLama is the man.
I love that sometimes you can get the waypoint right next to the countess tower, but then it’s another gamble on if the floors are short and easy.
And sometimes you gotta cross the bridge and explore the second half of the zone t find it, d2 in a nutshell.. love it haha. Back in the day everyone used to complain about durance of hate level 2 and the tower in black marsh.
This is by far the most helpful d2 video
I hope these videos never stop
Okay..that machamp drawing was pretty on point.
Talking about maps, It took me literally years before I found the gibdon to complete that quest in D2. Quite the maze. I was happy when I randomly stumbled upon it.
Knowing a nice way to get it done (ie finding it) would be really nice and this video helps with that.
I played this game for 20 years and i still find new things in it! never knew theres a pattern on maps
I normally never watch streamer content (the presentation method just isn't for me), but this was a very useful video, thanks!
Found your channel after coming back to D2 with resurrected, major refresh listening to your guides and knowledge here, also love the tricks and stuff you guys have all learned playing the game so long, you can truly tell that your passionate about this game and that diserves a sub for sure
"I'm going to keep this quick."
*explains left for 5 minutes
Sometimes that's what it takes, when well over half the population is below the minimum threshold for mental re tard ation.
I know I might be a little late on this and someone else may have already posted, but for Cata 3 when you enter, you have to act as if you are standing in front of the Cata 1 exit and are trying to find the Cata 2 WP. Basically follow left wall and you'll hit Cata 4 entrance quicker.
This here is the greatest diablo video ever
These are my fav type of vids
awesome thanks for this MrLlama! really will save me time on countess runs and meph and baal runs
My no tele countess runs are going really really smoothly now thanks
absolute D2 GOD! Thanks for the knowledge
For Arcane Sanctuary, i've read somewhere on Reddit that the biggest chance (not 100%) ,the way is the same that blood moor is facing rogue encampment (Act 1). Ive tried that and got 3/5 match.
Sometimes it feels like you say "across" meaning the direction of your character entering/exiting(a1 through 3), meaning go "straight" but sometimes (like A4 @ 46:00 ish) you mean across map wise (aka left to right from OUR human perspective looking at a screen), not within the rhombus/diamond shape, because that would mean top right corner and not the middle of the segment between top right and bottom right
I wasn't sure if I understood correctly or not when you were explaining directions before, but now I am almost certain I did not lol
Extremely useful guide. Thanks.
What's scary is I've never consciously thought about any of this, but I knew a lot of these before you said them because I've played so much I've just kind of internalized it. The Tower/Cata/WSK thing was new, but like Stony vs. Burial, UP, Outer Cloister setups, those I all knew.
This is so cool. I'm not planning on speedruning but this is still really helpful
I'm using Map hack from back in the day. Works just as well.
MrLlama, i dont know if you hear this a lot, but god damn are you an awesome dude. I appreciate everything you do for us plebs.
So much information i'm going to forgive it all once I left this video, but it was amazing!
Mr Llama has all this knowledge, and still fifth ways the Arcane Sanctuary.
WOW :O I literally needed to watch the video until 02:40, and I zoomed through the tower in tripple the speed I usually do... It felt like cheating!!!
ty for all your videos. I hope your channel explodes with the release of D2R
Thank you, Mr.LlamaSC, this is very useful. Subscription given. Do you know any more tileset patterns?
Aka, go clockwise/counter etc. I'm glad all the D2 tricks get a chance to be brought back into the light after 20 years.
So much good information, and with good presentation. You are a legend, thank you.
Been playing since 1.08 and the only area that genuinely confuses me sometimes is going from Kurast Docks to Lower Kurast. This def helped tho!
Ive been play this game sense i was 7 years old ( im 27 now) and that only part i couldn't figure out either

There is a pattern for each direction you enter the cold plains from
