The Incredibles - 2004
In this lauded Pixar animated film, married superheroes Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) are forced to assume mundane lives as Bob and Helen Parr after all super-powered activities have been banned by the government. While Mr. Incredible loves his wife and kids, he longs to return to a life of adventure, and he gets a chance when summoned to an island to battle an out-of-control robot. Soon, Mr. Incredible is in trouble, and it's up to his family to save him.

Insane fun fact: In the DVD extras for this movie, there are info logs you can read about various other superheroes and superhero teams in this universe. In one of these logs, it’s implied that Nomanisan Island used to be owned by one of the biggest superhero teams, and ALL OF THEIR MEMBERS WERE KILLED BY SYNDROME’S ROBOTS.
This means that Syndrome single-handedly took out an *entire team of supers* and just stole their island base, and that is absolutely BALLER.
Also Nomanisan Island means No Man Is An Island
And that the pilot friend of Helen was suppose to fly the jet and get killed (if I remember there was a animatic of his hat being the only part remaining of him from the explosion) looking back at it, The Incredibles was kinda dark for a superhero kids movie

Fun fact: The Incredibles was also intended to push the boundaries of what animation could do. Consider all of the environmental elements, body figures, and facial expressions that had to be animated- most of them, by hand. (For the shots as Mr. Incredible is slid into the pod above the forest island, custom software had to be developed to enable the physics of his stomach.)
Didn't they spend several months making a scene with Mr incredible poking a hole through his old suit?
Really cements this movie as my favorite of all time, they really wanted something special.

As a kid i enjoyed how cool the movie was
As an adult, holy crap i DEEPLY appreciate how real it feels. Especially the family side of it and how their powers fit their roles so well
Brad Bird truly hit gold on this and to this day is still easily one of the best Pixar movies ever
Bob is the strongest, because father.
Elen is very elastic, because she has to do like a thousand things during the day, often more than one at the same time.
Flash is energetic and zips everywhere at full speed.
Violet is shy and tends to hide and build boundaries around herself.
Jack-Jack is pure potential, so he can become anything.
it's all coming together.
Recently rewatched this movie. I kinda forgor how freaking dark it is. Like i think this movie has the highest body count of any pixar movie

The Incredibles is not only my favorite Pixar movie of all time but also my favorite childhood movie. Even as an adult, I can still recite the entire film line by line from the heart.

It's my favorite movie period. It is absolute perfection. My only true 10/10 movie. Childhood nostalgia miiiight play a factor, but it's just so amazing to me. Things like into the spiderverse and the last wish are 9/10s for me, but this is just 👌

The Underminer seems like he was written as a joke because that’s exactly what happened.
The Voice Actor that voiced him gets a role explicitly written for him to voice in every Pixar movie.
He is Hamm the Piggy Bank in Toy Story, the Abominable Snowman in Monster’s Inc, and Mack the Truck in Cars, among other roles.
What about in Elemental?

What’s funny is as a kid I never really paid attention to how depressing the beginning is, it just never occurred to me lol
That and I probably disassociated through the office scenes and scenes with the boss because “theses aren’t superheroes I don’t care move on”

12:13 Could be wrong, but I believe Holly Hunter is a licensed pilot so that's why her comms sound so authentic. Also, "India-Golf-Niner-Niner" is a reference to The Iron Giant which released in 1999 which was also directed by Brad Bird.
She actually learned a course for piloting so she could understand all the lingo and so that she could know which phrases to emphasize

When Jude was talking about "enjoying this more as an adult" and "not really getting it as a child", that's honestly just Brad Bird for ya. He's said in interviews that he's actively tried to make movies for adults to enjoy, and he warned against making animated films that are more targeted towards a younger audience

Microwave society should watch the Tomorrowland movie. It had the same director as The Incredibles, but is somehow the most 5/10 movie I’ve ever seen. It’s perfectly mid in basically every way so I think MWS would like it.

I feel like it would make since for Syndrome to have perfected those "flying disks" considering how excited he was with his rocket boots and being able to fly. It really seems like flight is his major area of research and development with how many things we see him having built that can cause stuff to fly/levitate.

I have to agree, there were some things in this movie that I didn't understand when I was a kid.
I hated the sequel because I think the message is a bit ham fisted, like, I get it, everyone is addicted to screens.
Also, I'm sensitive to flashing lights, I had to cover my eyes for a good percentage of the movie.
The Incredibles is one of those movies you see it for the first time as a kid and then again once you’re an adult.
8:32 this is exactly how I feel about the iCarly reboot. “Look we say bad words and drink alc*hol and have S*X! 😱” and then the acting downgrades to cheesy Disney Channel mannerisms. Adults actually prefer the Nickelodeon version because they spoke like real people and you never really knew what was gonna happen cause it was so random and unhinged. The reboot constantly reaches out of the screen and reminds you that it’s a show.

I spent years as a kid hoping for a sequel, I used to rewatch the scene with the Underminer constantly.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who can recite this movie line-for-line from memory. Also I want to hear all of Josiah's many thoughts on The Incredibles 2.
This movie handles adult themes surprisingly well. Even as a kid one of the bits that stuck with me the most was the jumper Mr. Incredible saves. They literally touch on the right to die- in a family movie! They're not dumbing this down at all for kids
This has to be my favorite Pixar movie, the comedy, the action, the characters, I love it all

As a kid, I enjoyed this movie a lot but mostly only ever watched it from Dash's chase scene bc of how dark thr first part is. I remember specifically asking my mom why the guy at the beginning would jump off a building. Now, as an adult, I totally love the movie and it's one of the few I give a 10/10.

Anyone that says incredible is bad, has no idea what they are talking about. Incredible story, incredible animation, incredible voice acting, incredible music
So, say what you will about Incredibles 2 but The Underminer is my favorite part because his whole thing is that he rips up the city and when the Family stops him they are told by the authorities that they should not have interfered and everything was insured. So his whole contribution to the plot is that he undermines the heroes credibility.
Kinda want you guys to watch Incredible 2 just to hear your opinions on it more in depth
