  • Here is the awesome morning launch over at Waste Management - G.I. Industries, out in Simi Valley, California. By Monday mornings, all the garbage trucks in the yard have just been washed and polished up for the new week, which makes for a great roll out video. My brother and I arrived at the yard around 5 AM this morning and saw the yard slowly empty out over the next two hours. I know it’s a longer video, so if you wish to skip ahead, here’s some of the key intervals:
    (0:00) - Commercial: The first trucks out of the yard are the commercial front loaders. There is a small launch at 4:30 but a majority of the guys leave around 5. A few residential trucks took off really early too for some reason so you will see them mixed in with the commercial trucks leaving the yard. A majority of the FLs are still "Think Green, Think Clean" Amreps, but GI has brought in some spares and extras from all over California, most recently taking in two WX/Amreps from Sun Valley.
    (4:49) - Residential: Around 6 AM, the residential drivers started heading out. Since Sun Valley Hauling was the only launch I have seen before, I was curious how yards like GI did the pre-trip inspection for residential trucks. It was really fun seeing their massive fleet of ASLs pull out of the yard, and what made it even better was seeing all the drivers I’ve met over the past few years drive by. Many guys waved and a few even honked. Bryan stood at the end of the street so he got some good shots of the old Macks flooring it down the street. Notable trucks include over 20 Amrep Octos GI had at the time. These include: 101232 (5:08), 101293 (11:11), 101495 (14:31), 101466 (14:37), 101577 (14:46), 101525 (17:33), 101334/101496/101511/101512 (18:26), and 101498/101487 (19:16).
    (11:32) - Roll Off: Steve started the roll off launch at 6:30. This was pretty neat to see since their fleet of roll offs is quite large. Being a part time driver in the roll off department along with his role as district operations manager, Steve takes this LOB personally and ensures that his guys are out on the road quickly to service their many customers. Check out Joe Blackwell’s awesome doubles roll off at (18:14)!
    (25:40) - Spares: Here are some of the spares around the yard. 101460 is actually the LA Metro Wittke Crocodile that Bill filmed years ago. 263586 is their organics truck, however, there isn’t a large enough customer base to send that truck out at the moment. They are currently working on expanding the program and will eventually use that truck as their frontline FL. GI also received 101334 back from Blue Barrel recently and it is now a spare unit. You can see trucks 263526 & 206526 as well, which are from LA Metro and Oakland respectively.
    (26:01) - Recycling Transfer Station: The driver of this roll off called us over and told us that he was going to be dumping some roll off containers into an Ecology transfer truck. He revved very nicely and unloaded very quickly. I love the view that the recycling pit gives and it’s quite fun to watch the trucks dump out over here at the end of the day.
    A huge thanks to Steve for letting us come by and check out the morning launch! And another thanks goes to all the awesome drivers here at GI Industries for being so friendly and welcoming towards us.
    Hope you all enjoy this video! Comments are always appreciated!

    Awesome video! I really appreciate your effort in getting this, especially if you got there at 4am!! Loved the sound of that McNeilus that drove by, not to mention 232's revving lol. 101495's tag axel removal worries me... because isn't that what happened to the Volvos just before they got rid of em? One thing I found really neat is all the LNG steam the trucks were letting off as they had just started up after sitting there all weekend. Had no idea they had 102661... have they always had it? Any idea where it runs? Love that parade of baby trucks at 10:41! Not looking good at 18:43 unless he was just warming the hydraulics up... Love those rims at 25:46! Remind me of a fire trucks lol. And can't wait to see 263586 in action! Very interesting truck for GI to be running.
    Well the yard certainly is different without the Volvos now but still nevertheless entertaining as long as they hold on to their Macks. Great footage once again

    • @WMmaster626
      @WMmaster626  7 лет назад

      Thank you! Very well worth the early morning trip! Haha I figured you'd be the one to enjoy Miguel revving up his truck since you filmed him as well. Yeah same issue on 495 as what happened with 101037, luckily Steve told me they have the parts all ready to put the tag back into place so it won't stay that way for long. Haha the trucks were just pouring out steam, it was neat. 102661 is a Blue Barrel transfer from a few years back, runs in Simi. I thought the same thing at 18:43, although that's an easy fix. Federico's truck had that same issue when I first found him but nowadays the arm is super smooth. Love those rims at 25:46 as well! Make the truck look super old school lol Hopefully they get enough customers soon! Apparently there's a stop in Westlake with 40 organics carts but still collected with an ASL for now. I miss the Volvos but GI will always be Mack central to me LOL! Thanks again, always appreciate your comments :-)

    Great stuff! Looks like a lot of effort goes into the morning launch! People blowing whistles and all plus the little light show at 12:41 was pretty cool! Was that smoke or vapor coming out of that truck's exhaust at 12:06? Was it because it was cold that morning or because the engine was barely started? I wonder if other large trash companies have launches similar to this or do they just go lol. This yard has a great variety of trucks!

    • @WMmaster626
      @WMmaster626  7 лет назад +1

      Thanks! Yeah lots of people involved and some sort of certification is needed to be able to do this too! That was steam, it happens to all natural gas trucks that I've seen when they start up. Yup great variety and part of the reason why they're my favorite!

    Wow WMmaster626 you did it again, another great launch video! Im glad to see the mini Amrep "Mice"are still running and look to be in great shape, it's amazing they are over 20 years old. The "Rats" look great and are pretty loud for CNG. I was surprised to see 2 tag axle Macks LE's with the tag axle taken off, but I'm glad to here they will me getting another tag put on. Do you know why that mini MR Mackrep was driving with a cart in the hopper, is it a small manual route? That Roll Off bin with the huge G.I. on the side looked great. So many of the Macks sounded great, I'm glad GI still runs several on residential. Hopefully they buy more Macks in the future, that would look great seeing a newer G.I. MR or LR. Great job WMmaster626!

    • @WMmaster626
      @WMmaster626  7 лет назад

      Thanks Kevin! Yeah the Mice are doing well! Luckily only one Mack is missing the tag, it just showed up twice in the video. Oh you can imagine my relief when Steve said they were putting it back on haha looks so off. 101512 does bus stops and missed pick ups so he brings that along with him. Haha I made sure to catch that roll off box with the iconic GI on the side! Agreed with new Macks! Always appreciate your comments, thank you!

    Lots of stuff to say n this comment. How many mini Amreps do they have? I noticed around 3. I noticed the PLRs while the trucks are driving, how is the recycle program going? When the organics program starts, you should definitely try and film it. How come the rolloffs start later then the asls? In my yard, rolloff start around 4:00am. How many Mack MRs do they have? What was 101512 doing with a cart in the grippers? Some special manual route with an ASL or something like that? They do have a ton of Mack LEs. I'm surprised they still have the Mack mid liner mini Amrep. Wow this is definitely one of my longer comments. I enjoy your videos a lot, especially because you don't post that often. Nice one!

    • @WMmaster626
      @WMmaster626  7 лет назад

      They have 7 mini ASLs and I believe 2 MSLs. I'm not too sure how the PLR program is working but I'll be sure to find out. Yeah I've been dying to see that LE Wittke in action so first chance I get to find it I will be out there. I'm not too sure why roll off starts so much later than other places, I was surprised to see them start after resi. They have 3 MR ASLs and 1 FEL. 101512 does bus stops in some cities and missed pick ups. Thanks man, really appreciate the comment!

    Wow!! As always great video Aaron!! Just curious I thought GI retired that mini Mack Amrep? From what I've seen in other videos it was mentioned idk if GI went against their original plans or whatever. But anyways wow!! I've been wanting to do this at my yard only issue is I don't have a way over there. For sure one of these days I will for sure go make one of these videos! Cool to see GI is still running LNG Autocar WX Amrep FLs as well. Of course they have a lot of Pete 320 ASLs too,if you ask me it's better then having an entire fleet of Autocar acxs haha. Anyways cool video bro!! Also I can't forget to mention those awesome Mack LEs that they still have! They still run great!! I wish the macks in my yard ran as good as these lol

    • @WMmaster626
      @WMmaster626  7 лет назад

      Thank you! Yeah they were originally going to retire all four of the Mice trucks but they've had so many problems with their newer special service trucks that they ended up keeping two as back ups. Funny enough they run quite frequently lol That'll be fun to see your yard's launch! Haha way better than ACX. Some of the best running Macks out there for sure!

    • @WMmaster626
      @WMmaster626  5 лет назад +1

      All the drivers start the pre trip at the same time after a morning huddle so having a manager there just kind of ensures drivers are all on the same step of the pre trip and ready to leave in an orderly fashion. Also whoever is leading the launch gets maintenance to fix any issues a truck may have before it hits the road. It's a good process, I've been in a truck during the launch and I think it's better than just having everyone take off whenever they finish. Keeps things organized and safe.
