Just wanted to say that if you have to do the copy/paste location of the game thing on your steam deck, if you hold down left trigger for a few seconds it'll bring up a little menu thing like the right click does on Windows. I didn't need to use an external keyboard at all.
FOR ALL OF YOU WITH RUN PROBLEM! Before install SMAPI you have to disable run game via proton and run it on linux compatibility (just unselect proton and leave default). After that install SMAPI and everything works like it should from begining.
brotha i cannot even. my smapi stopped working out of nowhere yesterday - wish i saw this comment 3 hrs of troubleshooting ago. you're an absolute legend
For anyone having a problem with it saying that it couldn't automatically find it, it's because you probably have it installed on the SD card. At least, that's what it was for me. Move Stardew from the SD to the internal hard drive and then try running SMAPI again.
Very helpful and to the point. Wanted this for the NPC locator mod but also discovered the fishing mod thanks to this video. Both are seemingly working well with no issues.
Thanks, this was very helpful. This is this first time I've done modding on the Steam Deck (or even Linux) so I've never used Konsole or even much of the desktop features before. Now I've got a nice bunch of QoL mods for Stardew :)
For those looking to mod SDV on the steam deck i'd caution you against automation mods and also try not to use *too many* "big" mods (i.e. SDVE). These kinds of things will dramatically increase loading save files as well as next day loading time.
I would recommend getting SpriteMaster, it cuts down loading time substantially for those big mods. You can turn off some of the aesthetic stuff in it too if it's not your cup of tea.
This isn't exclusive to the steam deck. This can happen even on a high end PC. Yeah it takes long for SMAPI to load everything, but once it does, you're in business.
I think I remember the deve of Stardew saying that an upcoming update would greatly help modders. Now, whether that means it will be easier to make mods for the game, or to run them, I do not know.
Thanks for the help! It may be good to explain that some of the folders and paths are hidden and you have to enable view hidden files in order to get this done properly
I can't make it work either. I've tried everything and looked everywhere for answers. Some of the mods load, but I don't get the SMAPI loading screen and half the mods won't show up. I really hope someone can help!
I finally got mine working, but I'm not sure exactly how. I just kept uninstalling and installing smapi and Stardew in different orders, and it just started working. I did delete the link to another file under the properties tab on Steam. When you uninstall Stardew, be sure you delete the Stardew folder under the Steam directory when you uninstall it. For some reason, it leaves the folder when you uninstall Stardew. I wish I could help more, but don't give up! 😊
