  • One of the most important battles in fighting game history would be an understatement when talking about the 1998 Street Fighter Alpha 3 World Championships. Taking place on November 7-8 in Nickel City in San Francisco, this would be the first time a true rivalry is developed between the best American player Alex Valle, and the champion from Japan, Daigo Umehara.
Captured by Bob Painter (Kuroppi) and donated by Julien Beasley (Zass), now 25 years later we are able to enjoy this content which has been upscaled through a vigorous and rigorous process by TurboAnnihilator.
On July 1, Riz0ne and Turbo host a watch party where we get into the gritty detail of how these transfers are possible, hint at some things to come, and get hit with the nostalgia feels of what was considered the greatest Street Fighter Alpha 3 gameplay of that time.

Nice work, nice to see myself back in 1998. It was a wonderful and memorable time to game in an arcade. People use to flock to SHGL just to play against the best of the best on the west coast, specifically Alex. We had people coming from all over the US, good times.

This was right before my time. I got into the fighting game scene with Marvel, but it's so cool to see these guys. These were the people that SRK would have articles about or whatever and my friends would elbow each other when we saw them at Golfland or eventually our first national (Evo2k2)

I had a high quality capture of the Japanese broadcast somewhere. It might be on a damaged hard drive that I needa send in to a data recovery center. But if I find it I’ll slide it over

If daigo picked ryu, it would have been insane ! They played mirror matches in 4 a few times, and it was always bonkers !
