Wow, so many nice comments about this game! I was one of the 3D artists at Blue Monkey studios. I worked on a lot of the cuts cutscenes between levels and I created the in game low poly version of barbie. Its really nice to see that people enjoyed playing the game.
Were there any mandates or restrictions Mattel imposed upon your studio when developing the game? I don't doubt it that they'd tell you guys not to do this or that with Barbie just as how other companies would stipulate with external studios making adaptations of their properties.
@@blakegriplingph The Barbie model was very strict, they had a lot of input in how she looked. Less so with the other models. One of the worst aspects was that they didn't want to see a lot of stuff till it was already developed and in game... and then they decided they wanted something changing. Made the process more difficult and long.
What I found strange was that we had to basically recreate entire sections of the film again from scratch, rather than using clips from the actual movie. We didn't even get assets that had been already approved, we built it all even though the company who made the film had already been through the process.
@@Ironhide001 Sure makes for a vicious cycle of modelling, getting approval and re-iterating. It's no wonder why artists and programmers balk at developing licensed kids games but are forced to do so because contracts.
A friend of mine used to work at Sidhe and part of him feels a little embarrassed when his company also previously developed a PS1 Barbie game. :P

When I was younger my parents bought this game for my sisters although I was the one who played way too much of this game. I was actually really fun!
These graphics were not kind to Derek, lol. That said, this sure brings back memories. As a kid, I was never actually able to finish the game. I only have my Grandmother's PC and it didn't meet the requirements to run properly, so it would always crash about halfway through.
