About the title. Talk for yourself, i knew since day one. That kind of player in a non-physical league, i just knew it would clash in his favor. Everyone welcome to reality.
All of these things except for shooting 60% from 3 on a small sample are exactly what people who actually watched him at Purdue saw coming. Once his three pt percent goes under 40% it makes almost no sense for him to shoot them as he’s so much more efficient down low. Frankly he’s doing less than I expected, but mostly that’s due to minutes and fouls. He’s perfectly capable of playing 30 minutes and using up all his fouls, problem is grizzlies are deep and play everyone 15-25 mins.
"problem is grizzlies are deep and play everyone 15-25 mins." huh??? This isn't a problem and leads to everyone playing harder during the minutes they get and hopefully reaching the playoffs in better condition.
@ it’s a problem for accumulation of stats, not a problem for the grizzlies. ROY winners are usually on crap teams and accumulate a lot more stats. With Edey you have to consider the minutes.
It can be a problem for some players' development, some things need to be forged in the fire of heavy game minutes. For instance most "bigs" don't learn the value of positioning and how to be in the right place at the right time until they get older and start to lose half a step, and changing directions isn't as it was when you were Zack Edey's age.
I’m also so impressed by edeys start. I think he turns into one of the best bigs in the league. Actually has a nice looking shot too. Can hit free throws. Can hit 3’s even. I didn’t expect him to even shoot a 3 nevermind one every game or two and hit more then half. I love Memphis n couldn’t be happier with the pick now
I like the fact that Edey does not try to swat the ball into the third row just so he can flex. All that does is give the ball back to the opposing team. A la Bill Russell, Edey tips the ball to teammates to start the break.
By the way, that's pronounced "Big Zed" . Canadians have been supporting and believing in him a lot longer so...well let's not argue, simply call him Zack, kinda like Shaq, lol.❤
I mean, let's not overreact here. As a Canadian I want to see him do well but the games don't necessarily translate. My biggest fear for Edey is the same as the video says, his defense. The NBA guards are bigger, faster and more athletic and his slow feet leaves him susceptible to being torched.
@@knav6680 Because of Jimmer Fredette, Christian Laettner, Adam Morrison and others. There have been plenty of amazing college players who didn't become great pros, or even good pros.
@@mattbleuer5011 Sure he was an average pro. But he was never great like you'd think he would be based on his college career. Or maybe he just hit his ceiling too early, if memory serves wasn't his best season his rookie season?
I like how he s been playing even in a team with lot of injuries and starting with another rookie like jw. There is only improvement in the path. I think something he must definetly improve is in the 2 hands dunk under the rim, many players has stolen the ball from him when he was already in the air. Those plays need to be finished, but im sure is part of the experience. Probably he was not used to be contested in ncaa when he was already in the air for the dunk.
I wonder where Edey would have fit in Atlanta; me, too, I was wondering whether Atlanta picked Risacher based solely on need. Would Atlanta have traded a big away for a draft pick, or for help on the wings, had they picked Edey? Because the NBA prioritizes short-term needs more than it used to (but not as much as the NFL, where needs carry the draft day), at least in the lottery, one's team BPA is another's "do not want". In Michael Jordan's era, or even in early-mid-2000s, he might have gone #1. Maybe he would have been picked #1 if a big-starved team won the lottery...
I wasn't wrong! I watched this guy for four years in the Big Ten and knew he would be a force in the overrated NBA. Too bad I won't watch that crappy league, cause watching Zach was so much fun!
No you were wrong. If you watched him play in college you could see he was the best player in college 2 years in a row. I knew he would be very good in the NBA.
No. No one was wrong. No team game plans for him, but if they’re in the playoffs, he’ll be put in pick and roll after pick and roll, and played off the floor. Even skilled post players only score2 points, where him out on a defensive island will lead to 3 points more often than not.
Big deal. The guy is 7'4". What would be impressive is if he went up against 7'8" players and still dominated. Being freakishly tall, of course he makes baskets. He doesn't have to do anything other than stand near the basket. Not impressive at all.
Lol,pretty beetle-browed opinion, lots of modern Neanderthals, but most of them got over the narrowminded hyperfocused mindset that was so vital to surviving an Ice Age,rather less so for interacting with Homo Sapiens Sapiens, lol.
By that logic,Shaq was a pretty decent Meh,lol. I really like him as a Canadian, but, statistically,if you're looking for a rookie with similar stats at the centre position at this stage of his career, you'd best mind the toes of those most vehement in the GOAT debate. Not saying he's in that discussion, way too early if it ever comes...but compare his first however many games to anyone, literally anyone at his age, position, and minutes played. You keep saying Meh,based on the evidence,I don't think it means what you think it means, lolagain.
What do you mean “we all”? YOU being wrong doesn’t mean the rest of us were.
Yeah, I always knew he'd crush the league. I mean is je going tk be the next Tim Duncan? Idk but I knew he'd be something good
Well YOU were wrong. Plenty of us (Purdue fans) had NO doubts. No kid ever improved more year to year. He works hard and he learns.
@@mikeb1039 that’s fair! I think a lot of folks shared the sentiments that I had. Definitely showing way more than I anticipated!

He's rolling to his left better than anticipated. His positioning is something he has a knack for plus some strength.
I wasn't. I'm a Purdue alum and had no doubts! Glad he is playing well and making believers out of the doubters. He has a great work ethic!
Who was wrong about Edey. He was NCAA national player of the year 2 years in a row.... shoulda be 1st pick

Absolutely agree. He is a sure fire #1 pick in the 90’s
Anyone who knows basketball understands he should have been the number 1 pick.
It just happened that the lottery winner wasn't hurting for a reliable big; maybe he would have gone #1 if the lottery winner needed a big.

I was always right about him. He’s not good. He will never be anything special. Just average at best some day.
He's averaging 20 min, 11 pts, 7 reb, 1 blk and 3 pf a game. Nope, that's pretty much the type of player everyone thought he would be.
For a rookie that’s better than all but two or three per year and most laughed at him in the first round
people thought he'd only be good in china, or a g league player, so you are 100% lying.
