Embiid was always fool’s gold to me. He just doesn’t seem to have enough ‘juice’ to get it done as your lead superstar. He’s way too reliant on free throws, and crumbles under pressure easily. He’s fragile physically and mentally. He can put up numbers but not when it matters, or in a way that translates to improving his teammates and raises the team ceiling.
Adding PG only added expectations. PG is another dude who is fool’s gold. Dude isn’t gonna win a ring ever imo. And he also has plenty of mental/physical hurdles that make him an unreliable 2. Both of these players require way too much to go their way in order to win at the highest level IMO

He’s just a selfish player plain and simple. He’s clearly focused on his own personal accolades rather than focusing on a team goal and it was evident the year Jokic won his second MVP and solidified when Embiid finally won because he completely was a non factor in playoff games after, in which he’s the first to blame whichever coach or teammate is on the hot seat at the time. He flops all over the floor and misses extended periods of time now to not play in back to backs, which no matter what you think of his game the record shows the Sixers are better with than without him. It’s bittersweet cause he is a superstar but deep down you know he’s never going to win a ring as the leader because that’s not who he is

I’m a 76ers fan and I agree with Maxey on this one. Embiid might be the “Man” in Philly due to being the face of the team but he doesn’t have any leader qualities. For example when they had Harden on the team and Joel came out and said “Him and James need help” when Maxey was balling out all playoffs and the players who underperformed were Embiid and Harden. I honestly don’t see the 76ers winning a championship if Joel doesn’t jump into the leader role as well as stay healthy.

Players can have superstar like stats or even seasons but until you show some tangibles (high performance longevity, championships, MVPs, etc) then you're merely a superstar calibur player. Russ has no rings but his consistency, record breaking seasons, and MVP made him a superstar. And even that can be debated.
I agree to be considered a SUPERSTAR should only be a small handful of elite players each generation
Personally I'd consider Luka a Superstar but someone most definitely can make the argument he's not. Then you have players like KD, Bron, Joker, Steph, Kawhi, Giannis, etc who are inarguably SUPERSTARS

Lets be honest, if you played basketball in the east coast for the last 3 years and you aren't a celtic or jimmy butler, you simply don't matter. Even the knicks are objectively not a good team. Let's be real, hypothetically Embiid wins a chip, he still ain't gonna be respected.

Let's be real. If Embiid and the Sixers made it to a Finals they'd be swept. Embiid would be a no show with the lights too bright, and every postgame presser would be Embiid throwing Maxey under the bus.

The Kawhi effect, superstars have so much leverage over their organizations in the modern nba. It’s frustrating from a fan standpoint.

@@0vern9K yes LeGM exists but Kawhi has really leveraged his health and injury management, which other players are doing now sitting out more like Ben Simmons and now embiid.

I’m a big Lakers fan, and even I was rooting for Philly to do well this season. It feels like they’ve been in the worst possible situation forever. They have superstar talent, they just always get hit with bad luck or sticky situations.
And as for Embiid, I’m a fan of his game, but not his talk. He trash talks KAT and other players but doesn’t even have a Finals appearance to back it up. Yeah he has All-NBA appearances and 2 MVPs, but he always shrinks when the lights are at their brightest. And he can’t blame his coach either because I think Nick Nurse is one of the better coaches in the League. And now Maxey is calling him out for always being late to practices. Like I said, I’m a fan of his play style, and I’m rooting for him to add a Larry O’Brien trophy to his accomplishments, but right now he’s just underachieved and underperformed when it matters most.

What stands out is the minutes per game for players during Kobe's time. Almost all of those players listed were averaging around 40 minutes per game. Now its all about load management and players missing key games because of how meaningless seeding and home court has become.

Dwight Howard made the finals and carried that team on his back. He was a bit immature and not the best big man ever, but he is very disrespected. Embiid is a clown. A 7 for clown making 60 million dollars a year and set them back 10 years into thr laughing stock of the nba

As being the leader of the team, this is truly pathetic on Joel Embid’s end and he needs to do better. Paul George ain’t slick either, they’re paying him too much money just for him to be a full-time podcaster and a part-time hooper.

every game i ever saw him in, he made it an unpleasant unentertaining experience by foul baiting. really the only player i ever hoped bad things would happen to just to make a game watchable and fair.
