Kakyoin stated he and his family often go on luxurious vacations so I imagine that would help his foreign comprehension.

Ultimate Trash Boy
Yeah
Kakyoin was just trying to flex
OR I think kakyoin not speaking much was on purpose because the games he played as a child could’ve made him learn some English as in the Darby saga the game was able to say “F Mega” and “Jaguars” In English.
Why would polnareff a busy man who obviously travels a lot not learn the language of the place he goes to? I’m assuming he went to England or the US for some monument (probably the Statue of Liberty)
Avdol learned English from Joseph
and Jotaro has parents of both languages
The Light
Kakyoin would make so much more sense learning through travel than by *gaming*. But I can almost see a point, like how a lot of foreign streamers play games in English go slowly learn over time.
Polnareff is a very stubborn man, and a very dumb man at that. Why would someone who is essentially a hobo bother learning a whole language for a country he’ll be in for a month or two and then carry on?
Avdol almost certainly learned languages through Joseph, considering how long they’ve known each other.
I’ll chalk it up to a… “I give up. Araki can figure out his own languages.”
Also, for Kakyoin knowing English, his family is implied to be well-travelled (his menu skills in Hong Kong and him getting hijacked in Egypt)
the menu in Hong Kong would be in Chinese, which uses the same writing system as Japanese, they are for the most part mutually readable(especially so for something like a menu that's just listing food items), so that scene just means that Joseph has trouble reading Japanese(which is consistent with him asking Rohan if his Manga is available in English, if he could read it in Japanese that wouldn't matter).
but yes we do know his family took a vacation to Egypt, which is where he met DIO and was implanted with the Fleshbud, but we don't know how rare or common such a trip was for his family to take.
The Hong Kong part is more shown on his knowledge of dining manners than the menu skills. As a Hong Konger, I am very proud of my Cherry boi knowing the gesture of thanking others when they pour him a cup of tea (tapping the table with a finger) :D

Jotaro is likely fluent in both Japanese and English, since his mother is an American and his father is Japanese. It's safe to assume that he grew up in a bilingual household.
Jotaro’s father is probably also fluent in English since he is a jazz singer
Eh fluent is pushing it. If his mom is literally the only person he can speak english to I don't think his english would be too good. Assuming she spoke to him in english.
@@lmao2302 but like holly was there all his life while his dad wasn't there all the time jotaro might of just obtained Japanese and learned more English but since he is Japanese and went to a Japanese school he will use Japanese at school and English at home or holly knows a bit of Japanese

My personal headcannon is that the Stardust Crusaders spoke both English and their own languages interchangeably depending on their situation.
Jotaro and Kakyoin would sometimes speak in Japanese when they're having personal conversations they wouldn't like others to hear.
Joseph speaks a bit of Arabic, though he is shit at it because stereotypical American.
And Avdol and Polnareff sprinkle a bit of their own native language when they speak as a form of habit.
I mostly made this headcannon because I love the idea of Jotaro and Kakyoin finding comfort in being able to talk to each other in their native language.
Then you realise Kakyoin won't be able to have those coversations wuth him because his stand was long ranged
And then there's iggy

I've always enjoyed the fan theory that one of the reasons why Jotaro is so reticent in Stardust Crusaders is that, well, his English ain't that good. Yes his mama is an American, and yes he probably learned it in school, but I imagine his actual experience speaking the language throughout his life is minimal, and (when not playing hooky), he probably didn't pay too much attention in school. So must of the journey is spent with him listening to the others, trying to understand everything, and occasionally fishing out a line he thinks sounds really cool (because he's a dork at heart).
All fan speculation of course, but I feel it adds a nice humanizing layer to Part 3 Jotaro.
Well Jotaro should speak English better than Kakyoin since his mom is an english speaker,so i doubt thats true
Not to mention Jotaro's dad is quite absent,so it is possible Jotaro knows english even better than japanese
@@vovabars1234 Not necessarily, remember Holly telling Joseph to call her by her Japanese nickname? And Kujos living in a traditional Japanese house? It's very possible that Holly was so in love in her husbands culture that she barely spoke English at home. As for Kakyoin, he most likely mostly picked it up during his international trips with his family.

Plot twist: they all speak their national languages but understand each other through learning
In the Diamond is Unbreakable live action movie, when Jotaro calls Joseph its in English. The rest of the movie is in japanese. I know the movie isn't canon, but I think it really helps reinforce that the crusaders spoke English

Why would DIO tack to one of his whores
DIO treats his women as objects and sex slaves, and kills most after being done with them. I think it is even stated in Giorno’s childhood flashback that she was one of the few who stayed alive after their encounter with him, so maybe they didn’t have to do much talking at all.
@@feta_cheesecake while that is true it has been shown that Giorno has a picture of Dio in his wallet, plus his mother doesn't act like a rape victim. I assume that it was a "normal" one night stand.
They speak common, obviously.
Yeah but Iggy speaks common doggo and Polnareff speaks baguette level max
I headcanon that they speak through stands, which is universal for all stand users
Nah, if that was the case they would be able to communicate verbally with Iggy
Personally my favorite head canon (and what could also be easily turned into a great running gag throughout part 3) is that for whatever reason Avdol just magically knows every language that the group has among them and comes across along the journe, something which the crusaders quickly notice when in one on one conversations with each member he can speak their native tongue fluently but whenever questioned he can never give a direct answer and eventually his use of seemingly every language is so common that by the half way point of the journey they don't even see anything out of the ordinary with it. This also as a result makes Avdol the most important member of the group since he is the universal translator between the crusaders.
theory: We know that Stand Users can talk to each other through a sort of "stand talk", but what if Stands also act as a sort of universal translator?

Weebs are punching the air
If that's the case, why kakyoin and jotaro were speaking with each other in english when they met?
felipe costa you’ve got me. By that same token it’d hardly make sense for pairs like polnareff and avdol to use japanese amongst themselves instead of the more commonly known English
@@mr.selyumor5402 Double that. Joseph's stubborn ass talking to *anyone* at all, ever, would probably be in English primarily. Also, Proof that they were speaking English in Japan, at least to Joseph, is that Holly asked to be called "Seiko" which is Japanese for Holly, meaning she had to be speaking English it to make sense. This also means she likely taught Jotaro English to speak to Joseph and herself, meaning he would also speak it to Avdol by default (as Joseph introduced Avdol), and Polnareff by extension of it being the "default" language. The only two I could see speaking a language other than English to each other is Jotaro and Kakyoin, though I feel they likely did speak English to each other most of the time, since both of them are shown to be able to talk normally with Joseph, Avdol and Polnareff who all likely don't speak any/much Japanese, therefore indicating Kakyoin is at least somewhat fluent in English, even if not as much as Jotaro or Joseph, who I would expect to be at least fluent.

They just talked with their stands the whole time. Maybe that's like a universal soul language?
I love these kinds of videos yesssss
I definitely agree with this. On the case of Joseph, too, he is a guys who picks things up quickly and I would guess that he's not just fluent in English but Italian as well, given his marriage to Suzie. My mother is hispanic and despite my father never having taken a Spanish class in his life, he is quite fluent in Spanish simply due to exposure with my mother teaching us Spanish growing up and also speaking it in the home and when we visit her family. Holly may very well be trilingual as well, because of this, though whether or not she taught Jotaro Italian is certainly up in the air. Joseph also being a real estate agent in New York City in the 40's and onward would definitely have benefited from knowing more than one language and probably would have picked some at least conversational Spanish, Polish, Russian, etc.
He's a kind of guy who likes to have clever skills up his sleeve to keep handy and I would imagine knowing at least enough of several languages to get a better read on his clients or competition when they didn't think he could understand them would be something he'd invest in. Then, of course, Joseph and likely also Holly learned Japanese most likely to better communicate with Holly's husband and their grandson in Japan. Especially since even if Jotaro is a fluent English speaker in the home, he most likely refused to speak English much so as not to further stand out. And then on top of that I wouldn't be surprised if Joseph also started picking up at least the basics of other languages in his travels both for the sake of ease as well as just naturally. He's pretty sharp to these kinds of things. And it's easier to learn and pick up new languages the more languages you already know.
Overall, though, Avdol is most likely fluent in the most languages, especially ones relevant to their travels, and likely acted as the group's translator/teacher throughout their journey as needed.
It could be Japanese because
1. Polnareff was traveling the world so could have picked up Japanese
2. Kakyoin, jotaro and Joseph can speak Japanese
3. Avdol is a smart guy, this probably isn't a good reason but that's what comes off the top of my head
So, In conclusion of main languages in each part of Jojo.
Part 1: English
Part 2: English
Part 3: English
Part 4: Japanese
Part 5: Italian
Part 6: English
Part 7: English
Part 8: Japanese
Edit: With some exceptions:
Part 1: Since the nationality of Tonpetty, Dire and Straits are not certained, I doubt they speak English between each other.
Part 2: Caesar speak Italian with other Italians and Stroheim speak German with his men.
Part 3: Speak Japanese during Tokyo arc and speak their national languages for minor characters that speak each other with respective nationality.
Part 5: Speak Japanese during conservation between Koichi and Jotaro.
I dunno about part 6-8 cause I haven't these parts too much.
Part4: Jotaro speaking English when talking to Joseph as he being senile made it harder for him to understand Japanese . That’s why he wasn’t understanding Okuyasu in the boat
I like that this video implies Iggy the dog's knowledge of English has bearing on the character dialogue
I mean they have to talk to him, he's part of the crew
I've been waiting for this video for so fucking long
Japanese because Joseph still uses a bit of English in the sub
Boom solved
OH MY GOD!
No not really
That’s literally means nothing
This is a good vid
Plot twist: They all spoke in mathematics cause math is the universal language
Battle Tendency Joseph: By GOLLY WOLLY
Stardust Crusaders Joseph: HOLY SHIT
I think they spoke english since in most countries you learn it at school
Wait so they couldn't read the subtitles?!?
What would be amazing in Stardust Crusaders is literally alternating in languages and dialogues.
Like when Holly is speaking English to Joseph and when Joseph is talking to Jotaro (seriously, Joseph had an affair with a woman from Japan...)
I assume Holly taught her son at least little bit of English.
I was thinking about this yesterday, I thought "It feels weird that all the characters conveniently speak the same language"
