There is literally not a single Church's Chicken in the state of New York, according to their official website lol. I only checked because I've never heard of it before, so I was curious!
As someone who lived very close to NY growing up, I never ever saw a church’s chicken until I visited the south lol
This is probably a relatively rare thing, but their yeast discussion cracked me up! I started my research career working in yeast, and then moved to rats before studying humans (big step? You decide…). None of the projects were connected, but I did get my science career started with yeast.

Yeast are eukaryotes like Rats and humans, but rats and humans are both mammalian multicellular organisms, whereas yeast are single celled fungi. So rats and humans are closer than yeast and rats.

I use to live in a small town in ohio and Hardee's made the town sign a contract stating that the town was not allowed to let another fast food restaurant in the town for 10 yrs in order for Hardee's to even begin building there. After 10 years McDonald's showed up and now Hardee's is not doing so well in that town. So to me that explains why they may do so well in certain places but that data probably changes every ten years for them. Just my thoughts.
Such agreements aren't uncommon at all :) In the small town in Mississippi I used to live in, Chick-Fil-A made the property developer sign a covenant that didn't allow other chicken restaurants to be built within X-number of feet or whatever from their location.

Texas, Kennedy and Crown all fall under Churches it seems
Not missing much. We have them in Oklahoma and ours is over crusted and greasy.

I’m in New York and we don’t have Churches Chicken here. We have Kennedys and Popeyes and KFC. I have never been into a Churches ever 😂

We went to a genuine old fashioned drive up A&W all of the time as a kid here in Wisconsin and the waitresses were still on roller skates till the early 2000s. Some of my favorite memories.

We picked up the GMM nightlight when it first was released. It has allowed me to walk into my kitchen at midnight for a snack without stubbing my toe on our island. A life saver!
There are no A&W's in Alabama or North Carolina according to their website. Also, when you look up the top data source the link for their data just takes you to the page you are already on.
There was A&W's tied with KFC in Alabama, but I believe they have all disappeared over the last 5 years.
Yea, I'm wondering where they are getting the data for this study. Because some of the restaurants they listed aren't even available in the states they're supposed to be popular in lol And I don't think airport locations should count lol

The only thing I can think that would make Maine the one for BK is that we’re so rural that most towns have a McDonalds and maybe a BK. It’s just the fact that most areas of the state only have access to a couple fast food joints without driving hours.
OH! AND THEYRE AT EVERY SINGLE ONE OF OUR TURNPIKE’S REST STOPS!!! That’s a constant flow of people 24/7.
I’ve noticed that most places that have a Mc.danks there’s a burger king near it but I’m also in southern Maine so idk where you’re from but that’s just what I’ve seen
@@ericalynn4291 and that’s the thing. Go north of portland and other than a couple cities most areas just have those two. Central, eastern and northern maine are all like this with the exception of Lewiston/auburn, Augusta/Waterville and Bangor.

From what I can tell, based on what I believe is the original set of data all those top 5 articles are getting their info from, the data revolves around profit growth of the chains in each state for the fiscal year ending in 2021. So it's not the most popular chains, it's a study of the sales trends in those states.
But even that makes no sense because Curch's chicken doesn't even exist in NY and it's ranked #1

So I'm guessing the study mentioned just polled people what their favorite restaurant was and then asked them what state they're from. That would make sense why then the "favorite" was sometimes something that wasn't even in the state. It probably wouldn't be too hard to look at all the fast food restaurants in a state and look at how much business they have, and analyze it that way. It would probably be not interesting though. XD
One thing that always shocks me between Canadians and Americans, is how I’ve never heard one person say they like A&W from the states. No idea why I find it surprising but maybe y’all need to try them side by side and see if there’s noticeable difference? Seems like an expensive episode for something you don’t really like but it’ll make Canada happy.
I live in Washington State, and been to Canada a bunch, but I have never tried A&W there. I keep hearing that it's so much better up there.
I'm in Michigan and I loved A&W as a kid. But it's hard to find one these days. I WILL choose it if it's available though.
I am also canadian and for one, didn't actually know they had A&W down there, and two, when I was a kid A&W was our "fancy burger" treat instead of other fast food lmao.
I'm from ND and I loved A&W growing up. Now there are only a few left in the state and nowhere near me.

A&W is definitely a favorite burger place in Wisconsin. Not as popular as the local favorite chain Culver's but a Papa Burger, cheese curds, and root beer float can't be beat.

I grew up in Maine and had never even seen a Hardee's or Carl's Jr. until I moved to Southern Illinois. We had Hardee's in our big city, and there is a Hardee's in my small town in Northern Illinois.
Also, in my hometown, there is a McDonald's and a Burger King across from one another. I always picked Burger King!

Yeah, North Carolinian here, I remember being excited when they put the A&W in at RDU like "wow, I like the rootbeer, they have a whole restaurant!" and that one dining experience was enough to say "...huh, no thanks." 😂Everytime I go home I just think "welp, pack a granola bar for the airport on the way back."
