  • I wanted to build an 18650 multi-cell charger to help me get through the many cells that I have to test so I decided to do that with the TP4056 18650 charging module.

    I did something like this with a 12 volt server power supply and ran it through a 5v 30amp buck converter. I didn't finish it, only prototype a 4 cell section. I have a 600 cell shipment coming in so I may start up again tmrw. Thank you for the idea for wiring from a main line with the little cut out.

    Wish I had seen this sooner I am doing a 40 cell charging board with the TP4056 muduals was not sure I could wire the power that way so mine is kinda a mess of wires it works fine need two more to finish then I bought 40 capacity mudules so I can process my 2200 18650 I am repurposing for 4 -24 volt 120 ah battery packs . I am putting 10 renogy 300 watt panels on roof of my coach bus onversion with a Victron 150/100 MPPT solar charger,two Victron Multiplus 3000 watt inverter chargers. This battery building is taking up some time looking for faster ways to tst them all.

    Very nice video! but I have a question, maybe someone has experienced the same. in my experience different tp4056 charge at different cutoff voltage. The ones I received vary from 4.10 to 4.15. Some module will charge up to only 4.10 some to 4.12, 4.13, 4.14 and 4.15. It is like that always? I even tried using different power supplies and still same result. Thanks a lot.

      I'm running a 5v 100amp power supply, the tp4056 modules will only work with 5v. Potentially you would need all 100amps if all 100 cells are below 4v due to the constant current of 1amp up to 4v and then the current tapers off... But so far I haven't had any problems everything is working its actually overkill because I can't capacity check cells faster than this charges... But it is good to charge, let them sit for a while then check... But getting way ahead on charging.

    • @havinfun4014
      @havinfun4014  Год назад +1

      Ran pretty good long term, cycled 7 or 8 thousand cells. I never had a problem. But I also never had 96 fully depleted cells on the board at a time, since I would charge 96 cells of various soc and as they were fully charged I would pull them and put them on the opus chargers for discharge capacity testing, then once I got the capacity I would throw them back on the board to charge them back up... I could only discharge 28 cells at a time so really I was swapping all the time. So probably never really experienced a peak current draw. Now it just collects dust on my wall as a reminder of the pain and suffering I endured making 2 - 10kwh packs... Tens of thousands of spot welds lol.

  • @kenburns4551
    @kenburns4551 3 года назад

    Question: what gauge wiring did you use on the tp4056, From the solar cables you used from the main power and from the 18650 battery terminals to the tp4056.
    Also since your draw is near 100 amps with all 96 cells charging at once. You mentioned you needed to upgrade your power supply to be able to provide the proper amount of current. Wouldn’t you need to upgrade that XT-60 connection as well, to at the very least a XT-90?

    • @kwadkrazy6078
      @kwadkrazy6078 2 года назад

      XT-60's can handle up to about 130a before actual damage occurs, however, it is going to be less efficient because some energy is going to go into heat. The XT-60 is going to act like a bottleneck, but it wouldn't be too much of a loss, simply because of the actual current limit of the connector. Despite the 100a number, it's only at 5v, so there isn't as much wattage going through as you might think. This setup would probably benefit from an XT-90 when it's at full load, which I doubt is very often.

    Hi
    How can I charge the 7s power wall by a charger, however all chargers in the market are 24v and I dont know if its voltage reach to 29.4v.

    • @havinfun4014
      @havinfun4014  Год назад

      You need a charger capable of producing the correct voltage. I use an icharger x8 for my 7s banks, it's best that any charger you get be capable of setting the final voltage, for example 4.1v/cell (28.7v) instead of 4.2 (29.4). I also charge using a solar charger controller when not home, once again capable of adjusting final voltage...

    I unfortunately bought 200 units of scraped laptops batteries, in the process of extracting, all the cells in about 150 unit's are not just dead but rusty. About 100 cells in the salvaged 50 units deliberately refused to charge and the remaining units that managed to charged were all very very hot. It seems the batteries has been kept for 10 years, I ended up throwing away 209 units of laptop batteries.
    Make sure to double check before you buy.

    But... Down side is that the tester is only 4 cells. I could have got more of the testers, but the pack build is 'for fun'. I'm 3 weeks in and wish it was new cells. Then it's only charging that's needed..
    Mine will be a run away, don't do it video coming up....
