List of FPS on Switch that run at 60 FPS: DOOM, QUAKE, DUSK.
As a lowly Xbox player, I long to play games like Dusk or Amid Evil :(
Doom?
Which one?
True but it's a great shame that Doom has horrible input lag (on Switch) and that Quake _still_ has poorly optimised thumbstick aiming despite it being improved upon with a recent update.
I have high hopes for Dusk, though.

This is why you don’t settle for PS2 Kingdom Hearts ported to the Switch as cloud streaming.
Hardly a 'port' when it's a video stream from remote hardware regardless. The datacenter blade could contain anything from low end CPU/integrated GPU all the way to boffo 3090 mega spec.
Never settle.
Cloud streaming is terrible. It requires you to not only pay for the game and Nintendo Switch Online but also, the best Wi-Fi possible and that's hard for most families to pay for, let alone single people.
@@Craigy2818 Actually you don't need Switch Online. But who cares? You need to pay a expensive rent for a cloud only game. It should be $1 per unit

I love that Boomer Shooter is now an actual genre description
beat me to it! Is it because Im almost 40 and now teens consider me a boomer?
@@troyevanthompson well yeah pretty much the term boomer shooter became popular after DOOM(2016) came out and mimicked the gameplay of DOOM(1993) which was well a "boomer" shooter.
This needs to be mandated
On of the best game of his genre by far
Though it doesn't make any sense, the real boomers (no, it doesn't just mean older than the person using it) ere trying to get videogames banned in the 90s.

@@NewBloodInteractive is this game coming to other consoles?
@@SpicySkeleton yes!
@@NewBloodInteractive I love you guys
@@SpicySkeleton We love u Steve Rambo
New Blood Interactive are really ones to watch. They really strip back all the unnecessary stuff that doesn't contribute to a good gameplay experience, and in return they produce insanely optimized games. While I *like* looking at pretty textures and shader effects in something like Doom Eternal, I **love** the intense and immersive gameplay experience of something like ULTRAKILL. There's a lot to learn from NBI when it comes to optimizing games, without sacrificing anything when it comes to gameplay experience and immersion.
I feel as though Ultrakill isn't as cohesive as Eternal. Maybe that's just me.
Absolutely love NB, though. 90's PC gaming really is the sweet spot.
@@purebaldness maybe once it's actually finished :)
Imo ULTRAKILL is easily one of the best fps in years - the low bar to entry is welcomingly accessible for even very casual players while still keeping the skill ceiling astro-fucking-nomically high and somehow it does this without its complexity ever becoming fiddly. Doom eternal is beautifully balanced in its keyboard-straddling web of cooldowns, animation cancels and resource management (it's like the enemies are just waiting to be mined) but Ultrakill feels much more focussed and direct while still offering a pile of unfoldingly clever tricks and interactions to juggle.
@@benhillman8384 dude i can easily beat doom eternal on console on ultra nightmare the game is clearly designed for console you prabably experience the same thing in ultrakill when the game is eventually on console thinking that the game on console is unfair
This game is a blast. I'm glad it's coming to the switch.
The Switch has turned into a handheld late 90s PC to me. Between all of the DOOM games, Quake, Duke Nukem, Ion Fury, Serious Sam, Project Warlock, and now DUSK, this little handheld has a timeless place in my collection. Especially the OLED version since now that system has a distinct advantage over something like the Steam Deck while running these games virtually identically.
Great point. If it runs a game well the OLED screen wins.
True. Take that Gabe!
I'm glad it finally made it's way to the switch, the game is a masterpiece
I love this game and reminds me of the early days of Quake.
Check out HROT. It's just as good and unique, but feels even more like Quake
This is one of the best games I played last year.
It's graphics are retro. But gameplay is top notch. Music is godlike.
Honestly I prefer waiting a few seconds before jumping into a level. I love hearing the creepy music as your protagonist is loading his guns
@Kahn Landis Its not copium idiot, good music/good loading screens can make you want to stare at loading screens for a longer period of time. Have you never heard of gta 4’s loading screen or what?
Digital Foundry keeping it up with the switch coverage! Looking forward to the analysis for the new crysis 2+3 ports!
It's always nice to see new, classic looking games like this. I hope that another similar game - Prodeus will also be released on the consoles.
Prodeus is so good! Also the new Ion Fury patch really smooths out the stutter issues that game had!
Prodeus is an absolute blast for an early access game. I really enjoyed my time with the levels they had available and can't wait to play through again when the full version drops.
Ion Fury commits the cardinal sin of Tiny, Flying Baddies.
Its coming to switch FYI
Ion Fury has been pretty disappointing for me on xb1x. The game had a bunch of issues and the controls/aiming never felt good
Dusk genuinely looks like a classic game.
definitely could fool someone into thinking it is a retro game.
It isnt at all.
Welcome back 1995 PC graphics. We missed you!
Dusk > Quake 1
@@Yoidze what about Duskworld vs. Quakeworld?
Dusk's multiplayer mode is SO underrated. I wish more people played it. I amassed over 200 hours in the game just by playing that, but the lack of players often stops me from playing when i'd like to.
Unfortunately it seems like most of the people who play these games are in just for the single player campaign. I personally really like this kind of stupidly fast DM combat, but I tend to stay away due to me living in South America and having to deal with 200+ ping in US servers :P
Yeah, porting PC games to the Switch, especially in the Unity engine, is not always straight forward. While the console is definitely capable of 1080p 60fps, even with FSAA, it requires a high degree of optimization and efficiency to achieve that. Unity is neither of those out of the box. So kudos to the devs for pulling it off!
Wow, what an amazing port. Fantastic job by the team! I'll definitely pick this up. It's nice to see a FPS on Switch with pretty much no compromises.
I hope more developer's take time to port more games like say Morowind to the switch.
I would love to see the original far cry game or F.E.A.R. and grand theft auto come to the switch as well.
Happy Gaming everyone.
👾👾💯
It's funny, I had no interest in this game on PC, and it was just a curiosity on the Switch until this video, but whenever I see that devs put actual effort into an optimized Switch port, my desire to buy the game skyrockets!
Even if I never end up playing it, I know I'll end up buying this to support the devs. Don't know why, but I just appreciate companies that don't cop out with lazy ports/cloud versions/"legacy" editions.
If you love old shooters like doom and quake then I recommend playing dusk ether on switch or pc. It's really good fun.
Unity itself is not super optimized on CPU use, and their solution to it (data oriented stack) is far from production ready, so 60fps for a unity game in a console with a pretty weak CPU is not a given, even for a game with very low GPU usage. The fact this actually runs so well may not be as impressive as those "impossible" ports but it's still very comendable.
Dusk? Never heard of it o.o looks dope though, need to try it some time.
It's a great adaptation of the old school fps formula, if you're not familiar with that style then Dusk is an excellent place to start
I will easily say it’s one of the best shooters of all time.
One of the very very few games Ill rate above Doom Eternal

The name "Boomer Shooter" is such a weird misnomer. Boomers didn't play FPS games- they had kids and jobs when 90s shooters were popular. These are "Gen X shooters" if anything. I get the idea (some people just think boomer=old) but it's a weird one, IMO.
Yep, gen x here. Im 46, and my boomer dad(rip) wouldn't touch a video game like it was the plague or something. Your 100% correct man
Well gen x shooter doesn’t sound as catchy as boomer shooter
It's based on the 30 year old boomer meme.
DUSK is one of my favorite games of recent years. I hope they either have an expansion or even a sequel.

The next game by Dusk's developer is Gloomwood.

I love everything about this game but I wish it had some gory rag doll physics similar to Painkiller or Unreal Tournament 2004.
Well damn. Now I want an Unreal Tournament '04 port on Switch.
Wrong era though. Painkiller and UT2004 are about 7-10 years too late. Dusk is very much looking back at the mid 90's era of chunk aka Quake, Kingpin and more.
It was a good move adding full gyro support. Way better than auto aim
Seriously John... . "Boomer" shooter. I understand why but... I don 't like to feel old after 30s in the video :P ;)

Hopefully this gets ported to more consoles so more people can play it. It's a great game but it's hard to recommend since most people I know play consoles exclusively.
Buying this on my switch just made me even more hype for steamdeck. Having a handheld run a game at 60fps feels awesome
Looking forward to the play this. , what a great portable the switch is
Max FOV is called 'Cynical' 😭😭😭
This is so fucking cool. I love New Blood
I love how Peach's Castle from Super Mario 64 is a stage in the Switch port of Dusk. It's so surprising but so cool!
"Field of view: Cynical."
The Cynical Brit's legacy lives on... in our hearts... and in our options menus...
Huh no mip-maps? It's probably the RUclips compression, but I don't notice the distance pixel noise when mip-mapping is turned off.
A wonderful game, that now almost makes me buy the Switch just to play it on the go.
Nah mate, a demanding game like this is a nightmare to control on Switch in portable mode. Anything that needs both thumbsticks is nothing but discomfort after a short while.

150 pov is basically playing as a pigeon
I've been looking forward to this Switch port for a while and I'm very glad that the developers nailed it. Finally a reason to dust off my Switch, just in time for Halloween.
I'd have traded a maximum FOV of 120 degrees instead of 150 for keeping more details.
If you don’t like spooky 90’s video game violence with chunks for days, you don’t like cool shit.
Wow quake graphics 25 years later.
John, i need to thank you for going forward on mobile. I can confirm deferred Gbuffer even kills DDR4 on 750g.
Forward + Rt probe (all faces at once) in unity = 60fps.
Deferred + Nothing (not even SSR.lowest) = 35fps.
But this is 2.7GB? No skill there.
My game will feature RT probe, realtime, unity, 60fps on 750G. Because? $25 with a 150MB size, is cheaper than a Switch dev kit + outsource skill.
Also, 2 player split screen on Andorid?
Thanks John.

is this actually out? have been waiting two years to buy this on switch and now not really sure i care.
Is there any good news on Ion Fury for Switch? I really want to play it, but as I recall, it's performance wasn't so impressive
I'm not sure who came up with the controls on the Switch version. When you don't invert the Y-Axis then you tilt the analog stick down to look town (which feels super weird for me and probably a good amount of other people too) and tilt the controller down (gyro aim) to look down.
When you invert the Y-Axis then you tilt the analog stick down to look up (how it "should" be for me) but it also inverts the gyro look (which then feels wrong and super unnatural) but the game options don't give you an option to change the gyro aim Y-Axis (but for whatever reason there is an option to invert the gyro X-Axis).
Is there any way to contact the devs about this?
@@Botul2 Thanks for that bit of information. I'm really looking forward to a patch that fixes it :)
unity is the worst engine ever .
Sometimes you'll just look at the title and know it's gonna be a John video! :P
Big John finally on Switch!
Behuaehauahahaha!
What they do is something missing in the last decade, it was call ´´OPTIMIZATION´´. Great work with this port, looks and plays really well!!
Yeah, so many games are poorly optimized nowadays. We take low performance and 30fps for granted on Switch, but looking at Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and how well it runs on the Switch really shows that really with just some good optimization so many games could run much better on Switch than they actually do. Clearly Mario Kart 8 must be pretty darn well optimized because it runs practically flawlessly and at 60fps on Switch and with surprisingly fast load times (especially compared to the Wii U version) but still has great visuals and has a lot going on with those big busy stages, and yet there's so many games that seem like they should be less graphically intensive than MK8 that nonetheless are stuck at 30fps on Switch and still have frame drops. Poor optimization is probably partially responsible for ridiculous filesizes in games nowadays too, but most modern hardware is good enough I guess to be able to handle poor optimization well enough so they don't bother anymore, and then to put said games on Switch they're just like "screw optimization, just lower it to 30fps and lower some graphics and it'll be fine."
Just bought it so far really good
No interest in the Switch, but this is indeed an excellent port of a great game.

Are graphics engines regressing or something? These are Quake/Quake 2-era graphics. The Switch should be able to run this at 200-300 fps. Anyone's iPhone or Android phone in the past 5 years should be able to run this, easily
it runs on Unity, which is hardly a light engine to run.
Yes and no. If this was made on quake engine then switch surely would've run it 200fps, no problem. But all these retro games now are made on new engines like Unity and they're very power hungry
