Speaking of phases, I feel like most artists have gone through the phase of being stressy and depressy while their art is really messy and they need to work lessy ‘Cause like yeah
Im in the phase " help i drew girls all my life but now im trying to draw boys and they all look feminine,, and some are supposed to be masculine and im sOBBING- "
I'm in the "everything I make sucks" phase, literally when I'm done working on a 23 hour artwork I just end up deleting it and then find a new idea to draw and then delete again.
Don't delete them, even if they look like a pile of trash wanted to look vaguely like what you want. When you've improved (and you will if you keep at it) and you feel like everything is horrible, you can look at the stuff you've made before and see that you have come farther than before.
I just end up getting frustrated with the art I make because it isn't the thing I imagined I understand I need to learn but whenever I sit down and try to pull up a youtube video or just sit down and draw random things I'd get bored that I have to just draw poses to teach myself how to draw the things in my head. I'm very afraid that I won't be able to draw again );
I'm in the "learning/baby artist" phase of things, just got a tablet that I like so far and I have started learning a bit about drawing hands as well as eyes. I still have a lot to learn but I am intent on learning it :)
I'm currently in a rare phase of "OH MY GOD I ACTUALLY LIKE MY ARTWORK" which I'm savoring. I finally feel like I'm starting to develop a distinct style, and it's a blessing after seven long years of self taught scribbles dissmissed as never good enough
I remember always being interested in art but I definitely wasn't talented... however looking back on it all the generic "oh wow thats really good, your gonna be a great artist" compliments really got to my head only now have I begun to compile the basic framework of decent art skills. I can't believe 12 year old me thought he was hot shit lol
you forgot the *THE ONLY THING I DREW WAS THIS ONE CHARACTER FOR 2 YEARS AND NOTHING ELSE* phase or *if i cant draw it, i dont draw it until i can, resulting in the phase above* phase
i’m a senior in high school as of watching this, and can say i’ve been in every phase! i’m sure you won’t see this, but i just wanted to say that you’ve been an inspiration to me throughout my art journey. i remember 6 years ago, in 6th grade, when i put you as my favorite artist/inspiration for an assignment. it’s crazy to think how far both of us have progressed, and i’m so proud of myself. i’m currently working on a short comic while taking portfolio classes, since i’ve exhausted my school’s digital art and drawing/painting programs. i had a critique today where my teacher and classmate gave some great feedback, and i’m gearing up to apply to art school for next year. in short, thank you. you’ve been an inspiration to me for my entire art journey, and i’ll always look up to you.
anyone else watching this video and reading this comment, i believe in you! keep at it no matter how old you are, what you want to draw, or how good you think you are. whatever spot you’re at, i’ve been there! just keep at your passions and you’ll get to where you want to be, and beyond. i love you all!
Im going through the "Drawing stresses me out" phase And the "stops drawing for a month" phase, and finally... "Messes up one thing on their art and cries" phase.
Jojokes 'n' Stuff omg this is SO relateable lol like I haven’t drawed for months and if I draw I make like only one drawing per month and then I hate it and threw it out
The fact that you can recognize flaws in your drawings just the next day sounds like a sign of rapid improvement. I got the opposite problem right now, I am content with my art and as a result I don’t see flaws and don’t feel the need to improve at all.
When I'm really stuck and can't draw anything I just fill an entire page with shapes or lines. Or both. Free-form, sometimes butt-ugly but absolutely COMPLETE pages of doodles. Seeing a completed spread in my sketch book just makes the whole book feel better, you know. And then I can feel a little better because at least I made a complete page.
But I mean, technically you don’t ever *have* to draw more realistic as you get older (but knowing how things look in real life can help when you do draw something cartoony)
omg i HAD this phase. the way i got over it was to use a big (9 by 12)sketchbook, and always start out by doing a little sketch and the top of the page or smth so it doesnt look so intimidating anymore. I also sometimes used pencils with hard graphite(H6 or H4 or smth) because they dont make super dark, intimidating lines
@@aiiiia9971 I am kinda lucky with just having a feeling about what color combination is good and which is bad. I mean, I know color wheel I use it, I love it
Giulia D try to draw the same character it may be the fact that you might be drawing different characters idk I’m not in that phase anymore I’m in the oc machine phase
I’m at the “only to the shoulders” and “the bodies I draw don’t match the faces” phases Edit: thanks so much (first and only top comment) and is it weird that I actually love drawing hands?
if yuore having trouble with anatomy, what helped me was drawing realistically But *completely* out of proportion. Playing with different proportions can help you see your error and eventually get the proportions correct.
Omg, I feel you so bad! Like it's the same for me! I drew something with a simple pencil and then I'm afraid to outline it in fineliner and add colors!!
Kittystar 707 eventually, saving up for a tablet will be amazing for you . (If you are actually interested in digital art) mind you tablets are still very expensive, but not as unattainable as you might think. I grew up thinking digital art was just for rich people, but I most likely could have afforded a lot sooner than I thought . Then again, if you have to choose between being able to feed yourself or a tablet, pick the tablet 😅
I was in the "Everything I make sucks" phase, but now i'm out of it and currently in the "I AM AN UNSTOPPABLE ART GODDESS AND YOU MUST BOW BEFORE ME, MORTAL" phase.
I've been through that SO BAD and even stopped drawing for 2 years which I hate myself for because that's wasted time I could've used for practicing. But I'm finally getting into drawing more, though I have alot to catch up on.. =.=
Stupid bts Fan same.. i have no motivation to even start bc i know i suck at drawing plusninthink depression has a partnin this. Altho i wanna become a character designer.
Carolina Furtado omg same depression and my eating disorders and anxiety play such a big part I bet you are a better drawer than me anyway Would you like to be RUclips friends, and do you have like Tik Tok or some’in 😊maybe we could help each other get motivated with comics and stuff
Stupid bts Fan mood. I suffer from anxiety too but for now it hasnt shown to be troublesome for my drawings. Trust me im not even with references i just suck big time, plus its been a while since ive drawn cause like i said cant make myself pick up the pen. sure! I dont have tik tok tho but i do have my insta? (I dont have any drawings there, its my personal acc)
I’m not allowed to but my brother previously made an account so I could dm a singer, so I could use his😊 let me know what your account is and I’ll say hi, btw I feel you, and I’m still in the everything sucks stage as well but looking back at where I started and to where I am now I got so much better I don’t think positive, but you can ❤️ just look back at old drawings and say “wow I got way better”
I have a lot of different phases Im going through "why are hands so hard to draw" "Im just gonna draw eyes everywhere" "I only draw in pencil" "Im to scared to add colour or outline" "I want to draw but I dont know what to draw" "Im only going to draw from the head to shoulders"
I’m in the “I love art, but I have no motivation so I don’t draw so often anymore.” I’m also in the “I can only draw females and want to learn to draw males, but I still feel like my female drawings are not enough.” phase.
I only draw female bodies because they're so fun to draw :) But I have to say, I'm getting better at male characters, too, even if I don't draw em that often
I’m in the “roasting my art and everyone is like ‘oh you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself!’ But roasting myself is one of my favorite hobbies and I don’t take myself seriously enough
I feel like one phase that could work in tis video is "finding your style". I personally think this is one of the most important steps for improving. This phase helped me so much and I think it can relate to most artists no matter what materials they use.
Many of the people I know (myself included) did not have that phase. For me there is no such thing as finding a style, because this process never stops. I understand that it may work for some people, but, at the same time, I've seen so much beginner artists who got stuck because of this idea. When you're good enough and you have a good visual base (from the artists you like), it can fluently lead to your artworks becoming distinctive based on your preferences. So, it really depends.
I am kind of in that phase but I am also in the ‘everything I make sucks’ phase. About half of the oc’s I make will have those bangs covering the eye but I make more now with both eyes than I did before so I think I am slowly moving out of that phase.
I went through a similar phase, whwrw i would just put a really long coat to not to draw legs and hands Heck, once i even made a one-armed dude because i didn't want ti draw the other arm!
Better than the "only draw elementles so i can blend the dress into the floor and make it floofy and get rid of hands, legs, and feet with one dress" phase i had last year
I'm in the "Im jealouse of every artists on the internet. They make better art then I do. I must improve to their level faster even though it probably took them years to improve" pharse
Kam w the original creators of Batman are most likely gone but the legacy lives on with others’ original interpretations and stories. But it’s very true what you are saying, being in that “phase” myself. It really isn’t a phase if you take cartooning seriously.
4:33 I'm in this phase rn. The way I get over it is by saying 'this is why I do music', which I also think I suck at but I know I will get better with practice and time
@@JustTurt practice ik it sounds like bad advice but practice makes perfect, as long as you don't get overly negative or gain a large inflated ego and keep a balance of knowing your pretty good/ok rn and that you could get better with the right criticism. Also be original and don't just become a copy of somebody else inspiration is ok but there's a line between straight up copying and inspired. And my second to last advice to you as an artist is to never give up you might wanna sometimes but if you keep going then when your a bigger artist who's been drawing for years and years you'll be happy that never ever stop going up that hill. ( sorry I got into the mood ) but also know it's ok if you don't think art is for you not everyone has to do it you can do it if you really think that's your passion and or hobby that's just what art is a hobby something you love doing that makes you happy. My final advice is to always remember your art is for you not other ppl. Yes there's commissions and stuff but always remember it's ok to like your own stuff as much as it is to know that you need improvement.
I saw a tumblr post once when I was like 13 that said how to draw: fill 14 sketchbook and I was like Okay this is my mission I’m 17 and I still only have like 7 hahahahah I’m 1000000x better than I was back then though!!!
If you draw every day even when you don’t feel like it, is probably the worst thing you can do. Obviously you need to give yourself a break. Often after a long break you come back way better than before. If you push yourself to draw to much you will get sick of it.
Tip for people in the “everything I make is bad” phase: Sometimes for me it’s just that I don’t feel like I’m improving, so I tried taking one of my drawings that I did about a year ago and redrawing it now just to have a direct comparison. I found that it actually made me feel like I’ve improved a lot.
Redrawing your old art is a good idea and see the differences between the two, but then after 0.000000001 seconds later you immediately regret drawing what you just created and toss it in the trash.
@@nyxlockwood Thank you..! but I think the last time I uploaded my art onto youtube was a few years ago when I was still improving my work the best I could- but thank you! :)
I’m in a few phases: •The “I only draw young girls” (about 7-13 is my age restriction) •”I’m proud of my art but too scared to show anyone” •”I can’t draw fingers” •”I draw eyes all the time” •”My art sucks” •”I’m bad at colouring” And finally, •”The everything must be perfect”.
@@fiona9830 I would really suggest it! I didn't make a lot of OCs at first, but now that I have, I have a really fun time drawing them and adore them 24/7 haha.... If you are a writer, you can also put your OC in a bunch of stories or use them in a roleplay! If you are interested, I would highly recommend starting an OC.
I'm in the phase of 'I just got a new drawing program and have so many options but I don't really know what to do so I'll just improv it and see how it goes'
That phase lasted so long for me that i eventually gave up on drawing and got a degree in neuroscience instead. I guess it's fine, but i do always wonder what life would have been like if i decided to keep pursuing creative outlets instead. I still have my old drawings that i look back on now, and think they were actually kinda good, even though i never made an OC, i basically mimicked other artists styles and characters. Oh well, i can live vicariously through you guys and everyone's awesome OCs on YT lol
To learn how to draw the lower body, just use some references online and look at the way tge hips and things curve and how big they are in proportion to the torso. The thighs are a few inches shorter than you entire torso. With legs, keep them tucked together and if you have trouble with that, stick one leg in front of or behind the other in a kind of relaxed state. Also helps if youa ccidentally curved your character's standing to the left or right. Gives it a reason. Actually wait no I just made huge leaps in drawing today ignore me
What about the phase where you watch a bunch of speedpaints and tutorials and want to paint but just don’t because you don’t think you are good enough.
Try looking up poses on the internet, they can be real life poses or sketched poses. When drawing poses get the simple shapes and put them into your sketch as body parts, ive been using this method and i have been getting alot better at poses, hope this helps!
This video is literally me in a nutshell- I also have a few suggestions for videos!! 1) the DOs and DON'Ts of making videos, and 2) trees/plants as cute characters!!
Im between “sometimes learning animation but then I get sad that it doesn’t look natural and then I switch to drawing and same, only few results are cool”
I didn’t start out with books. I started drawing when I was three because in my nursery I went to there was dinosaur templates and I used to spend hours using the templates and then basically colouring them (it looked more like scribbling on top of the outlines though). I only got art books on my 12th Birthday.
I'm in what I call the "cryptic" phase. I don't know what I'm doing, no one else knows what I'm doing, you see my art once in a blue moon and you miss it if you aren't looking

Who are you and why do we share the same fate. When I was like... 8 years old I draw My Little Pony stuff a lot and then there’s this kid who is basically can draw anything
I used to trace bases, then I tried making a SOOPER UNIQKE AWRT STYALLL,then I started using sketches underneath my art, then I got kinda better and started changing my style and adding in things that I saw famous animators do cuz' was inspired by them, then I became partly cute edgy because character development. Also hello lazii
For some cursed reason, I can only draw men. Hot ass men, but still. I can't draw girls. I'm a girl, I used to do ballet (Only girls, lots of them), I went to an all-girls school, and guess what, I'm a lesbian. But I can only draw the hot dudes.
What about the phase that follows the “everything sucks” phase: The “I want to practice drawing but I’m scared to create things because I’m afraid they’ll suck” phase where you just don’t draw anything.. just me? *nervous laughing*
I went to art school for a year and then left because of this phase... this was 5 years ago. Haven't drawn much since, trying to get back to it now. :(
@@ArjackDFT I studied comic making at a really chill school in Northern Finland. Everyone there was super nice and I enjoyed my time there, and I made a bunch of friends, some of who I still keep in touch with. I often wish I had stayed, but untreated depression and/or ADHD left me struggling with attending the morning classes and turning in assignments. I felt everyone else was so much better than me that in the end I let the pressure get to me. But other than that and the tuition fees (in Finland education is usually free even at university level), it was a really good experience.
I don't show my friends my drawings anymore because I didn't like how sad and critical of their own work they got-I'm terrible at drawing! But now I'm super shy about letting ANYONE see my sketchbook.
@@meowshroom3945 Look mate I'd kill to be someone whose art is liked. Nobody ever wants to see my shit and if I show them they don't even glance at it.
i don’t think that’s a good art teacher, i’ve seen that most art teachers and the good teachers don’t grade students on the quality of their art, but they grade it on the way they draw it, the idea etc
That sounds like the teacher from hellllll, but I must say I’ve had this teacher as well, and we made her quit cause some kid put hot sauce in her tea. Frick you Miss Lennon.
Rippp this is why I don't take art classes in school for like fun, cause they aren't. My friend had a teacher who didn't let you draw with mechanical pencils, and didn't let you shade normally. You had to cross hatch shade. You aren't allowed to draw anime, or anything "cartoon". Drawing at home: 👁👅👁 Drawing in art class: 👁👄👁
I had a teacher put me down for a sketch, “that girl is NAKED“ she litterally yelled that outloud in the class. I put chili peppers mixed with hot sauce in her coffee.

I'm in the "everything I make sucks" phase, literally when I'm done working on a 23 hour artwork I just end up deleting it and then find a new idea to draw and then delete again.
Don't delete them, even if they look like a pile of trash wanted to look vaguely like what you want. When you've improved (and you will if you keep at it) and you feel like everything is horrible, you can look at the stuff you've made before and see that you have come farther than before.

i’m sure you won’t see this, but i just wanted to say that you’ve been an inspiration to me throughout my art journey. i remember 6 years ago, in 6th grade, when i put you as my favorite artist/inspiration for an assignment. it’s crazy to think how far both of us have progressed, and i’m so proud of myself.
i’m currently working on a short comic while taking portfolio classes, since i’ve exhausted my school’s digital art and drawing/painting programs. i had a critique today where my teacher and classmate gave some great feedback, and i’m gearing up to apply to art school for next year.
in short, thank you. you’ve been an inspiration to me for my entire art journey, and i’ll always look up to you.
anyone else watching this video and reading this comment, i believe in you! keep at it no matter how old you are, what you want to draw, or how good you think you are. whatever spot you’re at, i’ve been there! just keep at your passions and you’ll get to where you want to be, and beyond. i love you all!

The fact that you can recognize flaws in your drawings just the next day sounds like a sign of rapid improvement. I got the opposite problem right now, I am content with my art and as a result I don’t see flaws and don’t feel the need to improve at all.
That’s not a phase THAT IS PERMANENT
When I'm really stuck and can't draw anything I just fill an entire page with shapes or lines. Or both. Free-form, sometimes butt-ugly but absolutely COMPLETE pages of doodles.

How to draw:
1) Just draw
2) Every day

4) Think outside the box
Right what I do

Okay this is my mission
I’m 17 and I still only have like 7 hahahahah
I’m 1000000x better than I was back then though!!!
eh
If you draw every day even when you don’t feel like it, is probably the worst thing you can do. Obviously you need to give yourself a break. Often after a long break you come back way better than before. If you push yourself to draw to much you will get sick of it.
I've been doing this for 10 years straight! I've improved a lot.
Tip for people in the “everything I make is bad” phase:
Sometimes for me it’s just that I don’t feel like I’m improving, so I tried taking one of my drawings that I did about a year ago and redrawing it now just to have a direct comparison. I found that it actually made me feel like I’ve improved a lot.
Wow, that sounds like a really good idea! :D thank you i’ll try it! 🖤🖤
Redrawing your old art is a good idea and see the differences between the two, but then after 0.000000001 seconds later you immediately regret drawing what you just created and toss it in the trash.

"Only draw the upper body of a character"

To learn how to draw the lower body, just use some references online and look at the way tge hips and things curve and how big they are in proportion to the torso.
The thighs are a few inches shorter than you entire torso. With legs, keep them tucked together and if you have trouble with that, stick one leg in front of or behind the other in a kind of relaxed state. Also helps if youa ccidentally curved your character's standing to the left or right. Gives it a reason.

I’m in the
“ *I have no clue what I’m doing and keep switching art styles* “ phase
oof, me too
Me too! Cool username btw!
raccoonz raccoon gang 👌👌👌
Omg, same.
me toooooo gghgff
my artstyle evolved from drawing my little pony my whole childhood but then my friend who's a literal god can draw perfect hands, anatomy, character design, stories by just watching anime for 2 years
Who are you and why do we share the same fate.
When I was like... 8 years old I draw My Little Pony stuff a lot and then there’s this kid who is basically can draw anything
Not with the MLP, but yeah everyone has that kid who can draw everything great.
Hmmmm do i know u?
Honestly same
im currently in the "i only draw girls bc i left my comfort zone and cant find my way back" phase
I only draw girls but I sometimes draw guys (I have only one guy in a whole sketch book that I believe I don’t use anymore)
Luckily most of my OC's (not all are countryballhumans) don't have hair,like...Steve
I used to do lots of girls, let's just say a lot of the fandoms I'm currently in has buttload of guys xD
@@riulf3476 Dude make sure u dont go to far in to a point where you cant go back
;-;
For some cursed reason, I can only draw men. Hot ass men, but still. I can't draw girls. I'm a girl, I used to do ballet (Only girls, lots of them), I went to an all-girls school, and guess what, I'm a lesbian. But I can only draw the hot dudes.
Regardless of skill nor invested time, being on a shared journey really is a soothing device, authentically through the hills and valleys ^^
What about the phase that follows the “everything sucks” phase: The “I want to practice drawing but I’m scared to create things because I’m afraid they’ll suck” phase where you just don’t draw anything.. just me? *nervous laughing*
Same :')
Yeah literally didn't draw for months because of that. Feels bad man
I went to art school for a year and then left because of this phase... this was 5 years ago. Haven't drawn much since, trying to get back to it now. :(
@@Antony_Oscar how is art school by the way? Is it nearly as bad as people make it out to be?
@@ArjackDFT I studied comic making at a really chill school in Northern Finland. Everyone there was super nice and I enjoyed my time there, and I made a bunch of friends, some of who I still keep in touch with. I often wish I had stayed, but untreated depression and/or ADHD left me struggling with attending the morning classes and turning in assignments. I felt everyone else was so much better than me that in the end I let the pressure get to me.
But other than that and the tuition fees (in Finland education is usually free even at university level), it was a really good experience.
I think you forgot the phase, “I can’t stop drawing eyes everywhere.”
YESSS!!
That was the first phase I was going through
I sketch butts everywhere :^/
I went through that phase for like a month oof
* looks at all my school papers with eyes drawn on the edges * can't relate
"Everything I makes sucks phase"
I'm a l w a y s in this phase
Same
Same
It'll pass...
Eventually...
I hope...
Same
Hey medic
Some of my best art has come from life drawings, since if I can see what im drawing it just makes it so much better
I'm in the ''my classmates think that my drawings are nice but they are just actually stickmen on a house'' phase.
Yup. But replace classmates with family. Nobody I'm my class likes my art.
I don't show my friends my drawings anymore because I didn't like how sad and critical of their own work they got-I'm terrible at drawing! But now I'm super shy about letting ANYONE see my sketchbook.
@@meowshroom3945 God I wish I were you
that's what I'm talking about!
@@meowshroom3945 Look mate I'd kill to be someone whose art is liked. Nobody ever wants to see my shit and if I show them they don't even glance at it.
my art teacher is like a how to draw book
“HEY that hand in your drawing doesn’t look like MINE you’re going to FAIL”
i don’t think that’s a good art teacher, i’ve seen that most art teachers and the good teachers don’t grade students on the quality of their art, but they grade it on the way they draw it, the idea etc
Change teachers
That sounds like the teacher from hellllll, but I must say I’ve had this teacher as well, and we made her quit cause some kid put hot sauce in her tea. Frick you Miss Lennon.
Rippp this is why I don't take art classes in school for like fun, cause they aren't. My friend had a teacher who didn't let you draw with mechanical pencils, and didn't let you shade normally. You had to cross hatch shade. You aren't allowed to draw anime, or anything "cartoon".
Drawing at home: 👁👅👁
Drawing in art class: 👁👄👁
I had a teacher put me down for a sketch, “that girl is NAKED“ she litterally yelled that outloud in the class. I put chili peppers mixed with hot sauce in her coffee.
What about "drawing eyes and only eyes" phase
I'm at that phase too Haha
I just passed that phase im now in the portrait only pencil only and buying alot of art supplies phases
when the pencil breaks on the paper and makes an almost permanent streak on the paper 0-0 *FLIPS THE TABLE*
Or just floating heads with no bodies lol
IzzythenBella how about only drawing noses and lips and ignoring the eyes phase cus I’m shit at eyes... I’m still in that phase 😓
Yesss “How to draw manga” steps can be so complicated! (Like useless lines, random parts being shaded, and EVERY SINGLE HAIR STRAND needing to be drawn)
Well this is going to be relatable... And make me cringe at my past self
my talent is art...
During our 1st quarter I drew in the behind of the book
now I redrew EVERYTHING I made during that time after 4th quarter..
Pretty much
@@xxcosmicsakuraxx3074 Makes me want to redraw the art that I made years ago. You know, way back before I ever even knew that shading was a thing.
