    I made a short where I claimed that the NEW Vegan dairy free Philadelphia cream cheese was the best vegan cream cheese I've tried and people didn't like that. I was given lots of suggestions telling me that tofutti cream cheese, or that violife cream cheese was the best, some people swore that it was Miyokos... so I had to try them and rank them all!! Well all the ones I could find in the Orlando area!
    I'll be honest.. the Philadelphia vegan cream cheese wasnt the best out of all of them!

    Important factor to take into account is if the bagel is hot from being recently toasted. The cream cheese alternatives can have interesting reactions to heat.

      @SauceStache  5 месяцев назад +26

      Very TRUE! A lot of these might have melted quite a bit. I'm still going to stand on my rankings as they are they because even though some might have melted a bit the others had some pretty bad flavors that I wouldn't consider to be cream cheese

      Not sure if it's a regonal difference in name or a different product but the simple truth plant based cream cheese uses the same if you want to look for that.
      Realized that I was thinking of their sour cream not cream cheese, haven't tried the cream cheese but do like the sour cream. My favorite sour cream is nurishh but that uses perfect day so...
      Unlike their sour cream their cream cheese has Water, Coconut Oil, Modified Food Starch, Salt, Potato Protein, Rowanberry Fruit Extract (a Mold Inhibitor), Natural Flavor.

    I love this roundup. I would love to see you guys do food reviews separately, each quantified with a score (perhaps 1 to 5 or A to F?) without knowing what the other said, and then compare results. I feel like you are each influencing one another's opinions - which is not a bad way to pick a movie, but it would be cool to see your unfiltered very first impressions on food.
    Also, I'm a big fan of Tofutti personally - especially for cooking! I've had great luck with vegan cheesecake and fruit crumbles using it. Looking forward to more roundups.

Of those brands the only product available here in Japan is Violife although there's a Japanese tofu maker here that makes a cream cheese style tofu and it is amazing. Interesting. Kite Hill is my favorite though I haven't tried the Trader Joe's one. Goes to show you that everyone's taste buds are different. To me the Philadelphia one has a weird taste. It's the same taste that makes me not like Daiya cheese but not quite as intense as the Daiya cheese.

    I really enjoy these types of videos! The oatly is going to be a bit sweeter as I've just found out that in processing the oats, it naturally beings out a sweetness. I was doing some vegan frying at work and didn't want a sweetened vegan milk. Turns out the regular milks have to list it as added sugar, but it isn't. I've had most of these brands. I do like Tofutti, I think it was the first one I didn't hate after going Vegan over 5 years ago. We usually only have cream cheese on bagels, so I don't recognize some of the issues you had with it. That Boursin one though, we love it (a little too much). Kitehill and Violife also take up room in our fridge, all depends on what the store has when we need more.

      You are right, allium plants in general are dangerous for cats. Thankfully, they're only toxic in large amounts, so if they stop feeding them it now it should be fine if the cat hasn't reacted already. I would take them to the vet to have their blood levels checked. The main issue with allium plants is it causes damage to their red blood cells. @@loverofsong9830

    Ohmygosh I feel so validated! When I discovered TJs cream cheese, it was such a happy day. It hits the closest I've been able to find,, and is by far the most affordable. Pro-tip, let it sit out for a little bit and it gets way more spreadable. And make sure your bagel isn't piping hot or it'll melt the cream cheese too much. Oh and add a good sprinkle of TJs everything bagel seasoning for a truley amazing bagel experience I have also found that most of TJs non-dairy cheeses are among the best and cheapest! Aldi's are surprisingly good too.
    Thanks for this really helpful video. Would have also been helpful to list prices as that's what's most prohibitive about non-dairy cheeses. p.s. Where does the Philadelphia rank in the stack?

    I bought the tofutti to make a vegan cream cheese frosting and it worked well for that. I even got my non-vegan family members to eat it and they had no complaints either.
    I care more about how it holds up in other recipes and less how it does on its own. If there's a good vegan cream cheese for making cheesecake, I'd love to know! I wish philidephia would make a vegan cream cheese that comes foil wrapped and works like it should for cheese cake.

    I wish you went to ralphs - they have an intriguing cream cheese that isn't so bad (outside of the coconut oil overload). I like spiro - sunflower, but I know others don't. But that's ok - you did a lot outside of that. I would love to see how this compares to the diy cream cheeses you'd make from butter beans, sunflower seeds, etc. I also wish treeline was in this lineup, but all of this would've easily doubled the video. There's other cream cheese I saw - like follow your heart - that's good too!
    I truly hope there's a part 2, but I know it's only in my dreams

    In Austria we have the Philadelphia (which is ok) and the Oatley (which I also don't like).
    The best Creamcheese I had so far is from a small Company in Czech. It's made from Tofu and Soymilk. But I can't get it in my Area.
    There is also SimplyV, which tastes way to much of Almond Milk.
    Lidl has it's own brand - that's the one I get the most.

    I buy the Tofutti brand the most because it's the most affordable but in terms of taste and texture, Kitehill reigns supreme ✨️

    I've only had access to a few of these. I've found the Oatly to be the most like the cream cheese among the ones I have access to. I used it to make a no-fail gluten-free pie crust. It worked for that OK. I wish I could find it near me, but alas, it was while I was visiting family over Thanksgiving and not at home that I bought it...oh well!

    Miyoko’s onion and smoked fish cream cheeses are good. I didn’t take time to note texture/smell. They had a good flavor.

    I use the It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken "plain cream cheese" recipe, but with half of the miso and a few drops of lactic acid and it's a win every time.

    Can you also do a video based on a recipe needing to bake. I was making quesitos with guava paste and had violife. It failed to hold up. I had to buy miyokos but what other ones hold up to baking.

    Trader joes is my favorite too but sometimes the thickness is annoying like makes it hard to spread on softer bagels

    I make a special trip to tj's for both their cream cheese and the Boursin which they also carry. They used to have a decent vegan sour cream too but I think they discontinued. I like WayFare sour cream alternative and I think Simple Truth is the same thing. You should do that next.

    daiya surprised me because their key lime cheesecake is the best. i haven't tried the plain though. my favorite is trader joes. its so close to actual cream cheese just a bit thicker. i like the miyokos too, they ferment their cheeses so they're sour but i think thats what makes them really good. i dont think anything tofuti makes.

      i’ve tried them all too and miyokos is also my fave! I think I like the “weird” taste everyone describes it having 😂 it also spreads better and holds on hot bagels better than most. but i’ve also never had non vegan cream cheese.

    Was so interested in this as my first purchase of plant based cream cheese was Kite Hill. Bought it because I’m trying to stay away from saturated coconut oil products - and most good plant based cheeses seem to be made with it. Kite Hill was so gross! Had a solidified grease texture/flavor. Tossed it out after the first bite, which sucked because it was not cheap!

    There is an excellent one. You can't tell it's vegan. But it is only available at bagel shops. I live in Brooklyn, NY and my local shop advertises it on a sandwich board. I will get the name.

    I think that anyone who has been vegan for 10 or more years has a soft spot for Tofutti--it was the only option available for a really long time. And we don't really remember what dairy cream cheese tastes like. I never really liked any cream cheese but I use Tofutti for some baking recipes and my kids like it on toasted bagels. In general, I don't think vegan cheeses, cream cheeses or sour creams are very much like there dairy laden counterparts and I'm okay with that.

  • @tamcon72
    @tamcon72 5 месяцев назад

    I don't eat cream cheese as a cheese; I just cook/bake with it. So for me, Tofutti with a pinch of additionl lactic acid powder does the job for sweet and savory preparations. It's broadly available and cheaper than some of the fancier vegan cream cheeses. Vegan dairy still has a way to go, but it's going faster these days. Thanks for posting!
